We ate out last night but all I had was shrimp, scallops and rice in a broth. I've eaten at this place before and never had any problems. :(

Could it be a combo of the mercury/toxins and maybe a flare or herx?

Hope you feel better soon so you can enjoy the b-day party.

I couldnt decide whether or not I wanted to go in to work...just looked at the time and decided I definately dont wanna go now..its too late....too many customers will be invading my space....bombarding me with noxious chemicals. :P

Don't blame you there. Hope you don't get tied up tomorrow.

I'm thinking maybe it's a little too much racheling of Both. I think we need RA- Racheler's Anonymous. Hi- My name is Bev and I like to rachel peanut butter." "Hi Bev" :P

Rinne- Poopy day for you too? seems to be going around!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm feeling ok, just have had a wretched daughter this week. I need a vacation from her but I always miss her even if I go shopping by myself on the weekends.

Been a busy day so far as I decided to do some cleaning. I've got chicken made which I still need to peal from the carcus (sp?) and bread is in the oven. One child is out of the tub and I've got to make sure the other one gets in.

Course, if we go over to say hi to the neighbor again tonight and the children go play in the garage sandbox, they'll get filthy again. His house is just starting to be built. They've got the frame done and are waiting for the trusses scheduled for Mon or Tues. His garage is currently real fine sand. He's invited the children over to play in the "sandbox" this weekend if they want. He probably won't be around but the workers obviously won't be so they won't be in anyones way. I wanted Mitch to go over with us tonight but he won't be home until 8 or 9 probably. I don't remember if I said the neighbor is sleeping in his tractor (semi) or not.

So last week it happened again...except this time shes not recovering like she did last time. :(

Shes in the hospital...they've done alot of tests and cant find anything. Apparantly shes fighting alot with him (they never fought), she cant remember stuff and shes not totally recovering from the seizure.

Thats about all the details I've heard so far but what do you guys think could cause this??

I'm not sure Rachel. I know gluten and metals can cause those kinds of problems. Stress can do funny things to a body.

Is he willing to look into alternative doctors for more thorough testing? Does she have to stay in the hospital?

I don't know if it was related to anything I ate but I started to get really sore yesterday and tired (my friend was here visiting for the night) and when I woke up this a.m. I felt like death warmed over. Freezing cold -it's like 80 degrees here- REALLY nauseous. Very stiff, like painfully stiff and I have what I refer to as Exploding Head Syndrome (EHS) where the pressure in my head makes me feel like my head is just going to pop off. YUCKA DOOKIE. :( If i had allergies, I would think that's what it is, but I don't.

oh rachel I forgot to ask you are eggs ok to eat since they are a light chelator. I eat them for breakfast everyday?

Eggs are great if you can tolerate them!!

I'm finally able to eat them without having problems!! I eat them everyday too. :)

Make sure your taking some charcoal or chlorella too...to help get rid of the mercury.

Garlic is also great if you can take it....I dont do well with garlic but I would eat it everyday if I could.

Eat as much protein as you can.....protein is essential for detoxing mercury. Thats why the whey protein can be very helpful.

Garlic and eggs are really high in sulfur so they'll help with some mercury detox.....but only if you can tolerate them.

What tests have they done? This is kind of my territory of "scientificness" since Kurt had a strtoke last summer. Sometimes it takes awhile to figure out where it's coming from. Kurt had had the stroke for 10 days before they realized that's hat had happened.

I dont know what tests were run yet. I havent talked to him myself....just hearing bits and pieces from what he's told others over the past few days.

I dont think its gluten related since she was fine before the first seizure and fine after it....until this last one. She didnt have any symptoms as far as I know.

I thought about lyme since alot of people with Lyme have seizures....but I would think she would have other symptoms along with it. A district manager for my company has lyme and he gets seizures from it....but he has alot of other symptoms too....hes unable to work.

I've been thinking about your friend's wife's situation, Rachel. I'm thinking along the lines of stroke, or some vascular problem that inpedes blood flow.

Also, MS could be another possibility.

Not knowing which tests they've already run and all, it's hard to say.

I do hope the best for her--that it's something that's easily treatable.

what do you think about the cilantro drops on the wrist and ankles to mobilize it from your organs? I wonder if this would help. what you think? can you take charcoal and chorella at the same time?. I am ok with charcoal it doesn't bother me. what kind of garlic? pills, fresh, frozen?

Lyme went through my head as well. Lyme rage you know.

Is he willing to look into alternative doctors for more thorough testing? Does she have to stay in the hospital?

I think she is in the hospital for observation and testing still. I think its way too soon for them to be considering alternative stuff. Shes still somewhat paralyzed and I think its good that shes in the hospital getting all these tests.

I think its better in most cases to get all the conventional tests done first and then go from there. Most people arent willing to go outside conventional stuff anyway.

The guy who works with my mom....his daughter is VERY sick at 16 years old. She is pretty much disabled from joint pain, concentration problems, fatigue etc. She cant go to school regularly, cant climb stairs...cant participate in life the way a 16 year old should.

She got diagnosed with Fibro....takes all the meds...the situation is the same....no real improvement. Her mom isnt totally well either. I would bet anything this girl has Lyme. My mom talked to the guy about it....gave him info about lyme which I had printed online...info about testing and everything else.

That was last year.....they ignored it...their daughter is still sick and I guess they just accept it cuz the Stanford "experts" have said its Fibro...and nothing can be done.

I know if it were my child I would leave no stone unturned. If I could do it for myself (while I'm sick)....I wonder why people cant be more proactive for their kids?? I wasnt exactly gung ho about alternative stuff either...but here I am...and I'm getting help now.

That's heartbreaking Rachel. :( Poor girl. She'll probably believe there is nothing that can be done also. :(

I know in retail "the customer is always right"....but I will NEVER let a customer get away with being disrespectful to me

One time when I was in customer service for copiers and faxes (I was the trouble shooter, the one you got when you couldn't get straight answers from service men or the dispatchers) I had a customer cussing me out. I hung up on him, then immediately told my boss I had and why. I knew he'd be calling her next to tell her I should be fired. I'd rather be fired than put up with that. I warned him that if he couldn't be nice I was hanging up.

I just don't comprehend why people are that way ... why would you owe it to him? If he were standing in line and you left to help someone with wine, he'd have been very irate over that!

My job was an "outside" job ... I travelled to the companies to show them how to use their office equipment ... I liked it ... lived in LA for two years, but saw more than most people who have lived there for a lifetime.

Once I installed a fax at One Life to Live ... the other two women who did what I did tagged along!

I am having a HEINOUS day too! Don't kno what happened. I don't know if it was related to anything I ate but I started to get really sore yesterday and tired (my friend was here visiting for the night) and when I woke up this a.m. I felt like death warmed over. Freezing cold -it's like 80 degrees here- REALLY nauseous. YUCKA DOOKIE. :( If i had allergies, I would think that's what it is, but I don't.

Sounds like the Lyme. I get all that except for the cold ... I get hot instead. I keep our room, which is on a separate ac than the rest of the house, cold. Then I still complain about being hot ... Adam assures me it's cold.

I'm so nauseous all the time, I can hardly eat. I've lost 7 pounds since January.

Sorry you're feeling so crummy, I can relate ... and it's a feeling you just cannot explain to someone who hasn't had it. It's not like anything else.

I also just realized that my hands are totally swollen- don't know if it's water retention (I drank like 8 glasses in a half hour earlier this afternoon), Lyme, probiotic die off or the storms we have coming.

Have you been hot? I get swollen hands when it's hot out, if I've been outside.

Thats about all the details I've heard so far but what do you guys think could cause this??

I would rule out Lyme. My friend's daughter was having seizures last summer. Children's Hospital said it was psychosomatic. Then someone called my friend and said they had contracted Lyme Disease from a tick on my friend's neighbor's property ... that she had heard the daughter was sick, and just wanted to pass the info on.

Ends up the seizures were from the Lyme. Dr. J thinks that she was born with Lyme and babs ... said she had it to bad for it to have been from the tick bite 6 months previously. This is how my friend found out she had Lyme.

I would just suggest it as something to "rule out."

So, Adam got this new car. A very pretty black BMW. He isn't cool enough for a Corvette, so he had to trade it in.:lol:

He was in a construction zone and traffic was coming together into one lane ... it was off the freeway. If people knew how to merge properly, he should have been in front of the semi next to him, but the guy was inconsiderate and wouldn't slow down ... it was one of those construction zones where traffic is going about 5 mph ... Adam merged anyway and scratched up his new car. His fault ... but the semi driver was a jerk ... I mean, WHY wouldn't he let Adam in since Adam was obviously almost in front of him? Anyway, Adam's fault.

So, today we're pulling out of our parking place at Starbucks and he's ready to put the car into drive. Just then a guy in a parking place behind him comes out very quickly, without looking, and plows into Adam's car. He hit it in the same quarter panel as the semi did, but lower. The guy in the mini van must have been accelerating out of the parking place because it was a good solid hit.

Fortunately, the car is going into the shop on Monday ... but it's two separate claims as one is Adam's fault and one is not -- or at least we don't think it is, the sheriff can't determine fault on private property ... but the side of Adam's car was hit and the back bumper of the van was damaged ... seems obvious whose fault it is ... it's up to the insurance company.

I think Adam is really a super-hero and he's hiding it from me ... he has an invisible car. He still has his temporary tags and he's already wrecked twice.:o

either fresh garlic (organic) or the stuff deodorized stuff that is sold in capsules (Kyolic). Garlic helps with yeast too. You will get die-off if you take too much. Only take small amounts to see what you can tolerate. The Kyolic is expensive...fresh stuff is cheap but STRONG. Fresh stuff is more potent. Make sure its not moldy.

Yes on the cilantro drops on the wrists and ankles!!!

Dr. Amy told me to do this....I forgot all about it!!

She also suggested I rub it on my skin where my kidneys are located.

Thanks for reminding me Lisa!! :)

I'm glad that you're ok with the charcoal now. Stick with that one....it'll help you. :)

I would take the chlorella with food and away from the charcoal.

Carla,

Yikes with Adam! Maybe he should have kept the Corvette.

Crazy!!

My first car was a brand new 1992 toyota celica. I got hit in the parking lot at work within the first week...the driver that hit me took off.

I got hit a few more times while I had that car. Rear-ended twice (once cuz the lady said she was trying to get close to read my liscence plate frame  ).....got hit on the side from someone who ran a stop sign. Lots of flying objects would hit me on the freeway or the roads. MANY people would almost hit me.....as if I werent even there.

I used to say my car was invisisble....that I had to be a very defensive driver cuz my car was invisible to others. :P

I havent had that problem as much with my Eclipse. I'm not totally invisible anymore. :)

That is so sad...one thing I've realized with this all this is do NOT take "nothing is wrong with you" or "It's just something that will flarre from time to time" like arthritis, fibro, IBS.

Actually I saw my new PCP for the 2nd time yesterday and was telling her about being diagnosed with Lyme and a lot of my story. She told me ANYONE my age diagnosed with arthritis should be tested/treated for Lyme. Me like her!

Yeah, there are plenty of rude drivers on the road ... the only reason I pointed out it was a semi is because then you can understand how stuck Adam was by the guy not letting him in ... especially since Adam was IN FRONT of him ... going 5 mph or less.

But you're right, all kinds of rude drivers ... everywhere.

I'm telling you, he's not cool enough for the Corvette!

Actually, he drives a LOT. He already has about 5000 miles on his BMW. It was okay when Morgan's car was here and he could take it on road trips, but now that he can't take it anymore, he was taking the vette. After the second long trip, he traded it in!

Heres what one Dr. says about mercury toxicity....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want people to know that just because this topic is mostly ignored by conventional medicine and dentistry, it isn't any less important or relevant to our health or our children's health.

And it CAN be treated!

In my practice, I have seen the benefits of detoxifying from mercury.

My patients have recovered from dementia, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, heart failure, multiple sclerosis, depression, autoimmune diseases like colitis and rheumatoid arthritis, and many other problems.

Of course, that doesn't mean that mercury is THE cause of these conditions, but simply one of the many causes that has to be considered.

So let's review how you know if you have mercury toxicity, and then how to treat it.

First, this has to be done carefully and under the supervision of a physician trained in the techniques of metal detoxification, but it can be done safely and effectively.

So here is how you find out if you are toxic. It has to be done systematically and carefully to make sure you get your body ready for removing the metals. I can't stress enough how important this preparation step is.

This is done by optimizing your nutritional status and detoxifying ability, then mobilizing and binding the metals in your body, then excreting them through the urine, bile, stool, and sweat.

Here is what I recommend to my patients.

==> GETTING READY FOR DETOXIFICATION (this process can take a few months)

1. First optimize your gut function.

Eliminate the common food allergens (dairy, gluten, corn, eggs, etc.), taking probiotics and enzymes for 1 to 2 months before detoxifying.

2. Optimize your nutritional status for detoxification.

Use healthy fats (omega-3 fats, olive oil, and flax oil), amino acids (which boost all your liver's detoxification capacity), and minerals, particularly zinc and selenium (which help your body detoxify metals).

3. Enhance your liver's detoxification pathways.

Take folate and vitamins B12 and B6 and eating sulfur-containing foods such as broccoli, collards, kale, daikon radish, garlic, onions, and omega-3 eggs, as well as supplements such as alpha-lipoic acid and n-acetylcysteine.

4. Use herbal support for detoxification.

These include chlorella, cilantro, garlic, and milk thistle.

5. Start sauna therapy.

Make sure you take adequate electrolyte and mineral replacements to prevent dehydration and mineral loss from the sweat.

6. Optimize elimination routes for metals including your urine, stool, and sweat.

Use fluids, fiber, and saunas.

==> ADDITIONAL STEPS TO SUPPORT DETOXIFICATION

* Dragon Naturals Cilantro Tincture. Take 2 drops in hot water before a meal twice a day

* Chlorella. Start with one pill three times a day and then build up to 3 three times a day for 3 months if tolerated - take 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime.

* Supergarlic 6000 by Metagenics (or an equivalent product). Take 1 twice a day

* Hepatothera forte (or an equivalent product). Take 1 capsule twice a day by Prothera (Selenium, n-acetylcysteine, lipoic acid, milk thistle)

==> DURING THE METAL DETOXIFICATION PERIOD

* Find a biological dentist (www.iaomt.org) to evaluate the extent of your mercury fillings and options for replacing them.

This can be done slowly over time, but must be done VERY carefully and only under a trained biological dentist's supervision to avoid burdening yourself with more mercury during the removal process.

* Get a test to assess your total body load of mercury.

This is called a challenge or provocation test.

The easiest and safest way to do this is to take 500 mg of DMPS in one dose first thing in the morning after emptying your bladder, followed by a 6-hour urine collection.

This is a prescription drug and is not FDA-approved in the US, although it has been approved and used for decades in Europe.

* The other option is to use DMSA, which is FDA-approved.

It pulls out a lot less mercury and needs to be taken at a dose of 30 mg/kg for the challenge test. I find this is not as effective to get a true reading on what is in the body.

* The treatment then is quite simple.

There is a lot of controversy about the best way to do this. But after doing this for 10 years, I've found the safest and most effective treatment is oral DMSA.

It is taken as follows: One 100 to 250 mg capsule of DMSA orally three times a day before meals for 3 days on, 11 days off. Do this for 6 months then recheck your level of mercury through the challenge test.

* Do saunas daily - especially on those days when doing DMSA.

* Consider getting intravenous vitamins and antioxidants for 3 months while doing this to administer glutathione, phospholipids, vitamin C, and B vitamins to boost detoxification.

This is harder to get, but can help the process work better and help you feel better throughout the process.

* Drink enough filtered water and fluids to make urine clear.

* Make sure you have bowel movements twice a day. This is very important or you will reabsorb mercury from the gut.

You can add ground flax seeds to shakes or foods, or take one to two 150-mg magnesium citrate capsules twice a day if you are not going regularly, or even a stronger laxative if you have to, such as senna or cascara.

* Consider whey protein to boost glutathione if not allergic to dairy.

That's it!

I am simply sharing my experience and knowledge with you. And I recognize that this is a controversial area.

You also must find someone skilled at dealing with this in order to do it safely. These are only my guidelines. They may be the same or similar to what you may find others using.

Most, importantly, get assistance.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DETOX FROM MERCURY WITHOUT A DOCTOR'S SUPERVISION!

Carla- Sorry about the car...you havven't met a MEGA rude driver till you've been in Boston. I mellowed out my assertive driving when living in california but the minute i got back, it was like drive or be driven. It was a hUGE adjustment back. People do NOT merge, stop, etc. It's everyone for themselves. Driving back here from CA, it was like someone turned on a switch the second you hit the Mass Pike. Road rage here is pretty horrific too.

I live on a street where the speed limit is 20 at our section and whenever I go out of my front door to get in my car, if someone is speeding (like 45 mph) I give them a VERY dirty look!

Rachel- Thanks for all that info!

Hi,

I'm not keeping up with the posts too much, but will try to catch up on some of it in the next day or two. I want to get all that info on detox! Thanks.

Carla, this might help with your nausea, sure does it for me: DGL, a form of licorice. You swish it in your mouth first as saliva activates it. I got some powder from Beyond a Century which is pure, 1/4 tsp at a time. Very soothing to the stomach.

HEINOSITY!!! Been trying for 20 minutes to get to page 1123, !! Was bound and determined I would get there too...and I did! :P

Heinous day at work...are the stars and moon aligned wrong or something... What is with all the work heinosity going around here. :P

We ate out last night but all I had was shrimp, scallops and rice in a broth. I've eaten at this place before and never had any problems.

Yeah, someone mentioned shellfish...that kind of struck me too.

There is another house with cows right at the end of my block....but this is a big piece of land, big house and the cows are spread out. It doesnt look out of place. The other one totally sticks out with all these cows crammed into one area and then all these new houses surrounding it.

Its gonna be heinous for sure. I'm planning on going in very early...just for a few hours...catch up on everything, write the orders and get out before customers start shopping.

That's when I like to grocery shop so I miss all the other customers who are heinous. If WF opened before 8:00 I'd definitely be there as soon as they opened!

Thats about all the details I've heard so far but what do you guys think could cause this??

Very sad! Don't know what all causes seizures, but I agree, I've read a lot of people on lymenet have had them. I also read at least one post where someone had only had one or two symptoms of lyme (not necessarily seizures though).

LOVE YOU ALL

Love you back...you did quite well on your post!

One time when I was in customer service for copiers and faxes (I was the trouble shooter, the one you got when you couldn't get straight answers from service men or the dispatchers) I had a customer cussing me out. More heinosity about the car! :(

Our office manager once told me that no one should have to deal with someone who is irate. She was specifically talking about the attorneys in the office and that I had to the right to tell them that I would not put up with it. I did tell a partner or two to leave the room. We mostly have great people though...it's the staff mostly that are sometimes trying on the patience. :(

Actually I saw my new PCP for the 2nd time yesterday and was telling her about being diagnosed with Lyme and a lot of my story. She told me ANYONE my age diagnosed with arthritis should be tested/treated for Lyme. Me like her!

Me like her too! :)

Thank you - that makes perfect sense and I understand. celiac disease is an autoimmune disease which will cause further damage while gluten sensitivity is different. Based on my symptoms and bloodwork, I am almost certain I have celiac disease.  I kind of hate to hope for a positive biopsy but a negative one would be frustrating for sure. Regardless, I have done a lot of research on gluten-free diet and am prepared to begin a new lifestyle journey - with a lot of questions along the way.  I appreciate your information and advice!

Let's talk about terminology for the sake eliminating (as much as possible) confusion. Unfortunately, the terms "gluten sensitive" and "gluten intolerant" have, historically, been used indiscriminately. There are two primary categories of gluten disorders whose "official" terms are 1. celiac disease and 2. Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or NCGS for short.  I believe there is an evolution toward using the term "gluten intolerance" to refer to celiac disease and "gluten sensitive" to refer to NCGS. I say that because the words "gluten sensitivity" are actually found in the official medical term for the non celiac medical disorder involving gluten. Does that make sense? The difference between celiac disease and NCGS is that celiac disease causes inflammation in the small bowel lining and (over time) does damage to it so that it becomes inefficient in absorbing nutrients from what we eat. This is the area of the intestinal track where all of our nutrients are absorbed. Of course, this can lead to any number of other medical problems. NCGS, on the other hand, does not cause inflammation or damage to the lining of the small bowel and therefore does not produce the antibodies that celiac disease antibody tests look for. Neither will NCGS, therefore, produce a positive biopsy result. NCGS and celiac disease, however share many of the same symptoms in the area of GI distress and NCGS is 10x more common than celiac disease. There is, at the present time, no defining test for NCGS so an NCGS diagnosis is arrived at by first eliminating celiac disease for which we do have tests for. Having said that, some experts believe that NCGS can be a precursor to celiac disease.  Yes, you are correct in stating that both conditions require a gluten free diet.  So, in the absence of official testing for celiac disease (and official testing done under the proper conditions) a person who is experiencing distress when consuming gluten cannot be certain whether they are dealing with celiac disease or NCGS. Not to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease while actually having the condition makes it difficult for some folks to stay on the gluten free bandwagon. It's just the psychology of the situation and wanting to rationalize away a very inconvenient and socially isolating medical condition.

Thank you!  This is super helpful and confirms everything I have read. I was definitely eating lots of gluten before both testing and endoscopy. If the biopsies do come back negative, I'm wondering how conclusion/distinction is made between celiac and gluten intolerance is made.  Or does it matter because presumably recommendation of gluten-free diet will be the protocol??

You are welcome! We frequently get similar comments. Knowledge about celiac disease in the medical community at large is, unfortunately, still significantly lacking. Sometimes docs give what are obviously bum steers or just fail to give any steering at all and leave their patients just hanging out there on a limb. GI docs seem to have better knowledge but typically fail to be helpful when it comes to things like assisting their patients in grasping how to get started on gluten free eating. The other thing that, to me at least, seems to be coming to the forefront are the "tweener" cases where someone seems to be on the cusp of developing celiac disease but kind of crossing back and forth over that line. Their testing is inconsistent and inconclusive and their symptoms may come and go. We like to think in definite categorical terms but real life isn't always that way.

Hey @Morgan Tiernan, Sounds just like my experience. I was diagnosed with dermatitis herpetiformis over 10 years ago. It appeared suddenly as a very itchy rash which looked like Eczema. When a steroid cream didn't clear it up, my Dermatologist (who had come across it before) suspected dermatitis herpetiformis and performed a skin biopsy which came back positive for dermatitis herpetiformis. The important thing is to get a definitive diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis. What you've described sounds like classic dermatitis herpetiformis though. Hopefully, your Dermatologist has come across dermatitis herpetiformis before and performs the skin biopsy correctly as trents mentioned. I've had the blisters on the knees, hips, forearms/elbows or anywhere that pressure is applied to the skin ... from clothing or otherwise. They itch like nothing on earth, and yes salt from sweat or soaps/shower gels will irritate a lot. I've been on Dapsone and it is very very effective at eliminating the dermatitis herpetiformis itch, and improved my quality of life in the early stages of getting on top of dermatitis herpetiformis while I adjusted to the gluten-free diet. But it does have various side effects as trents said. It can effect the red blood cells, lowering hemoglobin and can cause anemia, and requires regular blood monitoring whilst on it. You would need to consider it carefully with your Dermatologist if you do have dermatitis herpetiformis. Here's a very informative webinar from Coeliac Canada discussing everything dermatitis herpetiformis related.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAdmsNiyfOw I've also found this recent interview with a Dermatologist about dermatitis herpetiformis to be educational.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZnLeKutgUY Keep the chin up and keep advocating for yourself for a proper diagnosis. Though it sounds like you're on top of that already. Are you in the UK or Ireland? I'm curious because your surname is Irish.
