Julie...don't know if you know this, you probably do but just in case you don't, celiac, or related issues can mess with how you smell or how you taste, it has to do with something in the brain.

I knew there was a super/heoghtened sensitivity to smells and light with multiple chemical, environmental and food sensitivities, but I didn't know there was a connection with celiac, thanks for that little nugget of wisdom Celia. :)

Y'all are slipping, I was away for over an hour working on the lesson I am teaching tommorow, and you only got like 2 pages!

Probably just getting tired!

Yeah, I think after the burst of energy from everyone for a while we got tired :)

OMG Celia--we typed the same messages at the same time! Spooky yet again

I couldn't handle the digestive enzymes either so I stopped taking them and after the discussion earlier, much earlier :) in the thread about MSG and gelatin I stopped all my supplements. I also noticed that in the sulfites thread that gelatin has sulfites in it. I have been getting better since I stopped them though I have had a setback largely due to too much banana ice cream (dairy free).

I am going to do the water challenge because so many of my problems started about three years ago around the time we had the filter system installed.

I really am going to get goats milk tomorrow, hey if it worked for my daughter it might work for me, someone said it didn't taste good... wonder if they ever tasted gluten free bread.
:lol::lol::lol:

Celia, it is good to hear you in such a lively humor. There is an article by DrJ., I think it is in another thread about goat and sheep products being more digestible and that the move to cow milk was a mistake because human beings do not digest it very well. The decision to do this was made based on economics - cows had large udders and produced a lot of milk versus goats who didn't produce in the same volume. I find I can tolerate a small amount of goat cheese, the chevre is the fresh goat cheese and if you haven't had it it is a little like cream cheese but more flavourful.

I think this is a healing thread and that it has already helped so much in the healing process.

I really think that what we are learning here needs to be collected and published. Rachel I know you have thought of writing a book and I think that is a great idea but what if in addition to your writing your book we all wrote a book together, it could be our stories of how we were poisoned and how we healed. Just think of how many here spent years in frustration without diagnosis, having diabetes or arthritis or ..... and finally after 15 or 20 YEARS, please excuse my shouting, find out they have Celiac. It might be a great way to get on the Oprah Show.

Rinne--I have to agree with you that this thread (in it's own charming way) is just full of valuable information. Wouldn't it be something to compile all of the thoughts here and add to that our individual stories!

VydorScope Proficient
That would be something, you know you can get your own book published with a vanity publishing company, a few years back they were charging around $300.00 and you got a pretty good cut of what they sold on line and I believe some free copies of your book.

$300??? What a rip :) If I had to pay that much for the books I realeased I would never have gotten published. :o Unless they also do marketing? That would be differnt....

 The Bumble Bar intervention didn't work.

What is the phobio for being afraid to miss a post on this thread? Lordy, pretty soon I won't want to eat or sleep. :P

I think we all ought to pool our money and buy a huge parcel of land somewhere where we can build our little homes and have a community garden/farm where we grow our own stuff and milk our own cows or goats as appropriate.

:lol::lol::lol:

I love your community farm idea....what money?

That doesn't seem like so much money and if we sold books and made money we could have a party and if we made a lot of money we could buy that land and build a gluten free town and call it Rachelville. :)

missomgophobia !

:lol::lol::lol:

I stopped the enzymes the same time I stopped the sweet potatoes. With my past record with supplements I'm thinking the enzymes had a huge part in what happened to make things get worse for me.

Are the enzymes the same as the keto or something else? I'm thinking they are two different things, am I right?

Rachel--24 Collaborator
I would say yes, the enzymes were probably causing you problems. Do you have a list of ingredients on your enzyme bottle?

Yeah...I have the ingredients.

Nutritional Information

Serving Size: 1 capsule

Capsules Per Container: 45, 90, 120 & 180

Amount Per Capsule:

Amylase Thera-blend

ProteaseThera-blend

Maltase

Glucoamylase

Alpha-Galactosidase

Lipase Thera-blend

Cellulase Thera-blend

Lactase

Beta Glucanase

Xylanase

Pectinase/Phytase

Hemicellulase

Invertase

L. Acidophilus

See...I'm only worried about the possibility of the Protease having msg. I'm torn between this and Auxigro in the yams and sweet potatoes. I wasnt swallowing the capsules either...I tossed those.

That doesn't seem like so much money and if we sold books and made money we could have a party and if we made a lot of money we could buy that land and build a gluten free town and call it Rachelville. :)

Thats hilarious,

Who mentioned dating the 60s and 70s psycho? Was he from the south? Daddy once threw a certain pianist (JLL) off our front porch. That was in the late 50s, I think; or maybe early 60s.

That was me, Cissie....dated Johnny Rivers (Secret Agent Man, Summer Rain, Slow Dancing, Memphis, Going Back to Big Sur....many other hits that I didn't really like back then, much less when he was singing them to me by candlelight (although his voice is beautiful). He is from the South, cannot for the life of me remember where at the moment....might have been Memphis, not sure. I'll search his website....I like to spy there about every six months, and see what his obsessed fans - all 200 of them - are believing about him at the moment (they think he is the kindest man alive - - -OH HOW I WANT TO GO ON THAT THREAD AND SET IT STRAIGHT....) All they have to do is go to Big Sur and ask around, the natives will tell them exactly what they think.....and the last five sets of caretakers he has gone through (in about 6 years).....

Was is JOhnny Lee Lewis your dad threw off the front porch? What a HOOT!

This post is just more hilarious all the time....

Must go and sew my curtains....am avoiding it....

Yeah the enzymes were digestive enzymes...a supplement. Totally seperate from the Keto...thank God the Keto hasnt had that kind of effect on me. I'm counting on it to save me. :)

I was going to say computers, but we wouldn't need them any more!

Rinne,

It was only suggested to me about writing a book....I'm really not all that organized. It would be way more fun if we all wrote a book together...now thats something I can do. :)

OMG...can you imagine all of us on Oprah.

That would be one hilarious episode!

Julie,

Give me the low down on what your diet is going to be like in the next few days, are gonna try anything? I really am going to get goats milk tomorrow, hey if it worked for my daughter it might work for me, someone said it didn't taste good... wonder if they ever tasted gluten free bread

Ick, Ick, Icky. That's what hubby and I say. Of course I tried it before I found I was allergic to it (low). Some people love it though...maybe you'll be one of those. :P

I AM FURIOUS WITH OPRAH. Now writing to her medical guru du jour, Dr. Mehmet Oz. Maybe HE will listen....and not an email, a formal, hard-copy note. Maybe several (I am constantly writing letters about things and have seen results many times. Currently working on Target for this !@#%*&# bra - - I need 38A -freakish, I know - and the A cups stop at 34 - - an outrage. This will be fixed, just you wait....)

AndreaB Contributor
Julie are you going to drink bottled water? Just curious.

I don't recall the goats milk having a bad smell but it was years ago, my daughter is 24 now so maybe I don't remember, I really hope it works for me to gain some weight, if I have to I'll pinch my nose closed while I drink it.

:blink: I don't remember the smell being that bad, the taste wasn't real bad, just not milk or soymilk, or rice milk. I just didn't like it.

Jersey,

I was thinking about this today. I've been on this board almost a year now and I've seen almost every thread that gets a little "longish" start turning ugly. Sometimes they totally go down hill or sometimes just sidetracked for a bit. But almost always some kind of hostility rears its ugly head at some point. Especially on threads which involve different subjects (other than Celiac).

This thread has almost 150 pages and NO hostility....its awesome!! I think we can be really proud of ourselves for that. :D

It is very charming as well as informative...and fun. :)

Susan, you are so funny! I hope you win your right to have 38A's stocked in every Target from here to Tennesse!!

Slumber party. :lol::lol::lol:

Well, I am half serious and I am not so organized either but maybe we don't have to be yet, we need to heal. I don't think it would be that difficult, think how many are already here and each of us from youngest to oldest shares so much and yet we are unique.

Yep! And I'm the shy one right?

It's a toss up between you and your twin sister.

 Ok, I am the only major insomniac here tonight, I guess. Geez, I miss one day and spend thiry minutes catching up!! Cissie, you are right, Mia Farrow played Rosemary in the movie--maybe there was a remake? I saw that on a late movie on tv when I was a teenager and it freaked me out soooo bad.

Susan, that is so funny about J. Rivers-I used to love that song -Slow Dancing-I imagined him as a dreamboat--wow illusions shattering--Wow, you MET ELVIS!!! THAT IS TOO COOL!!

Who was having a "jigger of Jack"? Is Jack Daniels gluten free?! I don't drink, but am seriously considering it !!!!

Tennessee --so beautiful-- My husbands' family is from Rogersville, TN. The extended family is there and the old family homestead.

I think a celiac commune is a great idea. Count me in. I told my kids one time after a power outage, that I thought we should become Amish and Zack, who was 4 at the time, got very upset and said, "Where in the world can I go to the bathroom if we are Amish?" :)

btw-I think there is a viral disease of some kind that causes long term health problems in raw milk. I forget the proper name but my Grandma called it milk fever, if I remember right. I think it started with a "P". ? Not sure about that one. I bought some sheep milk yogurt and used it as a sour cream replacement and it was pretty good and didn't bother me, although I just had a little out of fear of the dreaded D. I used it on a baked potato yesterday. So far, so good.

Take care All . "See" you all later on.

Hi Matt, like you I lost almost 3stone over 2yrs, my symptoms were exactly as you describe .    I was eventually referred  to a consultant who has been treating me for reflective coeliac.  I’ve been taking(  Budenofalk 3mg )steroids for the past 9 mths  and the course is coming to an end shortly. I’ve gained 2 stone and feel so much better in myself. Im due an endoscopy at the end of the course of steroids so unable to say if my villi’s have returned or my digestive system has repaired. But like you I was besides myself with worry.  Apparently the condition is quite unknown and the consultant at the hospital I attend has been in contact  with  Sheffield hospital who specialises in this condition. I hope this helps,    Deanne

How are you doing, @sadiec123?  Did you get through the holidays alright?    Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Many newly diagnosed Celiacs  are low in Vitamin D and many of the B vitamins like thiamine.  Thiamin insufficiency can cause weight loss and loss of appetite (anorexia) as well as affect mood.   Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing and improve mood.
