When you said "bag", I thought of the big grocery store bags! Two little bags is HARDLY Racheling!! . . . .

But we eat Skyline Chili all year around!! We ate there tonight. It's Cincinnati chili ... really popular here ... typically a "three way" is spaghetti, chili (basically a finely ground meat sauce, not what you're thinking) and shredded cheddar.

. . . . . . ..

My Grandparents had a beach cottage they had bought back in the 50's when I was a kid. It was on Madeira Beach in St. Petersburg, FL. We used to spend quite a bit of time there. It was very fun. :)

YAY!

W/ the little Frito bags, it might be the opening of bag #2 that crosses the line?

That Cincinnati deal is indoubatably unique!

:P

Carla on the Gulf Coast yahoooooo! :D

My dad used to live further south. Venice, next to Sarasota.

Bev!! On a rolllllllll! Keep 'em comin'! :)

Grrr can't remember who else I was gonna remember.

My dad used to live further south. Venice, next to Sarasota.

My dad still lives in St. Petersburg, so we go down there every year. Both my parents lived there as kids ... Mom was born there, Dad moved there as a teenager. My great-grandmother's family moved there near 1900. So I've spent a lot of time there!

I've been to Sarasota, but it's been years ... not familiar with Venice.

I am sorry to hear about the writer's block. Inspiration often comes to me at the strangest times. However, I have found writing with a pen that writes in purple is great to get the creative juices flowing. It sounds quirky, but it works! Whenever I am at a road block, this really helps. Try it! ;)

I haven't had writer's block for a while... it's more like brain block... the symptoms which I've had the most difficulty resolving and which affect me most on a daily basis are neurological and cognitive... writer's block has nothing to do with an inability to think and process information, just an inability to creatively think... my problem is simply the thinking part...

it's been worse the past couple weeks, and I'm actually taking that as a positive sign... when I first started my ABX, I didn't really have the brain fog I was expecting and I was mildly disappointed (I guess as disappointed as one can get that one can actually form some semblance of a thought process)... but sure enough it kicked in after a week or 2 and has been present to a large extent since then... I'm inclined to think that the lyme is the major cause of my neurological symptoms and with them intensifying recently on ABX, I think it goes further to confirm these symptoms are tied to the lyme...

I think I'm taking a step back to take a number of steps forward with this ABX treatment but I was aware that could happen before I started them... it's probably good for me in the long run, but it still sucks in the meantime... though I think it would have been much worse if I hadn't been feeling respectably better earlier this year before treatment and went into the ABX at a certain level of health... I'm still able to do most of what I was doing before starting the ABX, I just don't feel quite as good doing it all...

It's always good to hear how you're doing. :)

I got more stuff on Glutathione. :)

I *think* depletion of Glutathione is a major factor in why I suddenly became ill. It makes alot of sense....my problems match those found found in Autism and Glutahtione is also a factor in Autism.

Dr. Amy had said that she suspected there were problems happening with my detox pathways long before I got pushed over the edge with my mercury exposure. Actually every Dr. I've seen the past year has said there were problems developing long before I got sick. The mercury was the last straw.

I do believe that my amalgams, poor diet, smoking, unhealthy lifestyle all left me nutritionally deficient which would have led to depletion of glutathione. I think the BIG exposures I had to mercury TOTALLY left me completely unable to detox and this is when I started feeling the toxicity levels rise....and the symptoms.

It was immediately after the unsafe amalgam removals that problems started....it only took about 3 motnhs to completely take me down so that I was no longer able to work or function normally.

Heres more about the critical role of Glutathione....and now I'm understanding alot better some of the things discussed at my last appt. with Amy.

The American Dental Association (ADA) estimates that 100 million mercury dental fillings are placed within the mouths of people in the USA every year. Others have estimated that 180 million people in the USA bear mercury dental fillings. Mercury is an important toxin source to consider in health conditions with "no known cause, and no known cure".

Mercury exposure stresses the immune system of every person who has them. Both a properly functioning immune system and the body's method for excreting mercury consume the antioxidant enzyme Glutathione. When mercury depletes the body of Glutathione, it has a direct negative effect on the immune system's ability to respond properly to infections and cancer.

We believe mercury from dental fillings to be an important toxin contributing to people with CFIDS and other immune system disorders. Documented symptoms of mercury poisoning cover nearly every documented symptom of CFIDS.

Recent science indicates that at least 14% of the human population develops a T-cell mediated immune response specific to mercury compounds and mercury ions. This is the same kind of immune response the body places against viruses, bacteria and other foreign proteins. A sustained, systemic immune response to toxic metal ions that goes on for years, is a very likely description of some people's immune disorders.

A perpetual immune response against a relentless stream of metal flowing from the teeth will consume many essential nutrients, and eventually cause the immune system to "burn out", leaving immunities chronically depressed. This is a description many people with immune disorders would attribute to themselves and their immune system.

Glutathione is extremely important for a competent immune system. The body uses glutathione to detoxify and excrete mercury, other heavy metals, and numerous toxins. Adequate Glutathione levels are essential for the body's energy processes to function properly.

Glutathione from the diet requires that proteins be eaten, digested, absorbed, then "deconjugated" to create free form amino acids which are then made available to form Glutathione and other essential compounds in the cells. Mercury interferes with sulfur bearing compounds throughout the body, and can block the ability of the body to synthesize Glutathione.

When you supplement amino acids that form Glutathione, you are jumping to the last step. On an empty, or near empty stomach, free form amino acids absorb rapidly without the need for digestion, and disseminate throughout the body via the blood stream. Supplementing free form amino acids that form Glutathione is the most reliable way to boost body Glutathione levels.

Nutritional status is only half the story if you are being actively depleted of Glutathione.

Eliminate all the Glutathione depleting pollutants you can identify and control. Safely remove mercury dental fillings with a mercury savvy dentist who uses a properly installed rubber dam, air respirator for you, and air scavenging system to protect everyone else in his dental office. Discontinue the use of acetaminophen, and aspartame which also consume Glutathione and stress the liver. Stay away from smokers and alcohol. Consider getting an activated charcoal filter for your drinking and cooking water, and metal-free glass cookware.

We are confident that for people with dental mercury caused illness -- a more normal health and energy can be restored over time, if all of the root issues are properly addressed.

Overlooked has been the amount of mercury in feces, which demonstrates both exposure and excretion from the blood and tissues by the liver.

The levels measured by Osterblad et. al. in the article "Antimicrobial and mercury resistance in aerobic gram-negative bacilli in fecal flora among persons with and without dental amalgam fillings" published in Antimicrobial Agents & Chemotherapy, are disturbing, and clearly demonstrate that human mercury exposure is dominated by the presence of mercury dental fillings.

Osterblad found that on average people with mercury dental fillings had 17 times more mercury in their feces than did people who had never had mercury dental fillings, and had 11 times more mercury in feces than did people who had all of their mercury dental fillings removed. The group with mercury dental fillings had more than 1 part per million mercury in their feces.

At the first standard deviation, the difference between these populations becomes more dramatic. People with mercury dental fillings had nearly 4 parts per million mercury in feces, 39 times more mercury than did people who never had the fillings.

Osterblad's data indicates that 1 person in 1000 with mercury dental fillings will have 10 parts per million mercury in their daily feces, 170 times more mercury than the average person who has never had such a filling.

The safe limit of mercury allowed by the EPA in drinking water is 2 parts per billion (see ASTDR ToxFAQ CAS# 7439-97-6) . What Osterblad found in the feces of people with mercury dental fillings was an average concentration 500 times higher than would be allowed in minimally safe drinking water.

I was taking Zinc and Selenium but quit because Seth was reacting to something and I don't know what it was. It doesn't seem like I can do much until next year. I'm going to be weaning him sooner than the other two so I can prepare for removal next fall.

Dear Rachel,

Thank you for providing the URLs again! :) Now I can get to these things quickly! I love that! It makes it easier when I need the info! I may need this stuff, too. All of the information is really amazing!

My favorites are not organized, either! I should work on that! There is just so much good information from here! I think we could write a book! It really is important to understand and know these things. Other people can think we are crazy and paranoid if they want. However, they will also suffer the effects of being poisoned.

It really is a terrible shock to find out how much MSG really is present in the American diet. :o There are so many foods that are off limits. From what you said, produce is a big offender as well! That is really scary! I wish I could afford to go organic.

The molden reaction you experienced was horrific! Molds are just nasty to deal with. I am highly reactive as well. That strange feeling seems to be accompanied by that. Congestion is something I have had to deal with a lot more than I used to.

Glutathione is something you do not hear much about. It really is vital in so many functions. There should be more studies done on it. That is so annoying that they ignored its role for so long, especially with its usefulness in mercury detox.

Now it is in my favorites too! Thank you for the link!

Dear Rinne,

Your friend's Eggsplosion sounds quite familiar! RiceGuy told me about a time when he did his eggs in the microwave, and had the same thing happen. However, he had some egg land on his eyelid. A friend of his who is a nurse said that a lot of people have lost their eyesight to eggs exploding and landing on there eyes, damaging their sight. Who knew?

I have not hear any dangers of a pudding explosion, though! However, it is quite the sticky situation. :P The good news is, my brother had a Magic Bullet he was using to crush ice for snow cones. It was not doing what he wanted, so he let me have it! This will help a ton with my cooking!

The exam is very hard for Finance. I really hope I pass! I hate that course! Everyone else does, too!

At least they do not have a time limit.

Dear Lisa,

Yes, your chocolate pudding explosion was a bit different than mine! ROTFLMAO! Yours was more of a scatological terror scenario! I definitely should not look at the Kudos. It will make me sad, longing for memories of tasty chocolate treats! Those Frito Boats sure sound great, too!

Dear tom,

Yes, the pudding explosion was hilarious, but messy! It was everywhere! In my hair, on the wall, on the counter, the Kitchen Aid did not escape it either! The next day, I found it in other places I did not even know how it could have gotten in! I told Dad, he cannot touch the Magic Bullet ----lest he will die!

The other avatar was from Alaska? Wow, that was nice. The Midwestern winters are kind of odd. At least, where I live, the weather is really strange. Sometimes we have cold weather, other times not at Christmas. There are times where it has been 56 degrees on Christmas Day, and other times we have temperatures below freezing with snow. I can pretty much assure you we are the only place on the planet where we can have a tornado warning one night, and a winter storm the next!

Ah, yes....Fritos! They are so good! I have been bad about them lately. We got a family sized bag. I have been eating on them all week! Surprisingly, they have not irritated my stomach too much. I guess I got lucky for a change. I still have a terrible fear of a delayed reaction.

Your new avatar is great! You were really blonde like I used to be! It is funny, because when I was born, I only had peach fuzz! I finally got hair as I got older. You were so cute!

Dear Carla,

It is good to hear the herxes are less severe. Those things are so miserable. How is Chloe doing? Didn't you say she would start her antibiotics today? The lead maybe causing some issues, too. Hopefully, it will not interfere with her Lyme treatment.

Dear Donna,

Yes, there was a chocolate pudding explosion some months ago. My father said he thought that the Magic Bullet could make pudding. It can, but not when you overload it. I told him, it was too full, and it was not going to work. Naturally, he made me put it in there anyway.

The next thing I knew, there was an explosion! Devil's Food pudding all over the place! I had it all over my clothes, in my hair, on the floor, on the counter, the wall...you name it! Even worse, the poor Magic Bullet died. :( How ironic it was Dad's birthday gift and he killed it!

I too, have been racheling Fritos! :o That is so weird! I just hope I will not get sick from them. That is all I can hope for. I usually set my expectations low, so I do not end up disappointed.

Dear Bev,

I am glad you warned about the Black Henna Tattoos! That is scary! None of those for me! I always like to play around with henna. Now I am nervous about it.

What wonderful news! We are all glad to hear you are feeling better! That is so great! Those herxes definitely do a number on you. From what Carla said, though, it is a sign improvement is coming.

The test Rinne referred to is my Final Exam for Finance. I am nervous about it. This course is so hard. I will obtain my Associate's degree if I pass it. I do not want to have to take that course again!

Dear Mia,

I have no idea how you are doing all of this! I barely have the energy to do anything half the time! Sometimes watching television feels like a lot of work! I do like to keep busy, but there are times my system just does not want me to move! Do you have any idea what might have irritated your system from your lunch?

It is great to know you are looking forward to your appointments. The therapy seems to help. I am sure you will feel results soon. The body sometimes does not respond immediately. This varies for each person, too.

Dear Sherry,

Thank you for the tip about the licorice. I really need something for the nausea. It is unbearable! I have to take Promethazine, and it knocks me out! The licorice could also help maybe with my blood pressure. I think it is a bit low.

I hope the ABX helps. If it did before, it should again. The Lyme is strange that way. It can go away, then come back. Lyme can be dormant for years, then something activates it. Hopefully, you and your doctor will be able to treat this and you can recover quickly.

Dear Christine,

I get those symptoms. It is really difficult to deal with. My lymph nodes under my left jaw are bothering me all the time. I also have bad teeth. The two on that side need root canals, but now I am not sure I should keep them. I know I will have to get a partial, though if they are extracted. However, I am concerned about the fact I may have Lyme and worry I could have a bone infection.

I have not had protein show up in a urine test, but have had electrolytes in there. I do not know what was causing it.

This was six years ago when I was at the worst shape I had ever been. I hope everything is alright. I am glad your doctor is running tests. Let us know when you find out the results.

Dear Patti,

Where are you? How have you been? We have not seen much from you lately. Are you in the process of moving already? I know you might be overwhelmed right now.

Dear Susie,

I am glad you enjoyed my little pudding explosion story! Everyone really thinks it is hilarious! It is so funny!

Who would have thought a mishap with pudding could be so much fun to talk about? I am just one amazing person, you know?

Not only did I get into a pudding explosion, but managed to set my hair on fire a while back. Did I tell you about that?

I was making my gluten-free pancakes, when the heating grate near the stove blew a piece of my hair up into the flame. Being long and black, it quickly ignited! :o Luckily, after vigorous shaking, it went out! That was when I first thought about cutting it! I am just cool like that.

I go see the hairstylist Monday for the patch test. I hope I am not allergic to the dye! That would not be good! I think everyone else is as excited as me! Even the guy who mows our lawn! I figure, when your hair starts to put you in danger, it might be time for a new look!

That is such good news about your doctor! You finally found one you like! I am so happy for you! Hopefully, the spinal X-Rays will come out alright. Let us know when you find anything out.

Dear Julie,

I am sorry your doctor is not responding. Maybe they forgot. Mine was supposed to look up IgeniX. She said she wanted to check out the lab before she agreed to have the Lyme testing done by them. She has not gotten to look at it yet.

Fritos are so hard to stop eating! They just taste so good! Probably because of all the msg they likely have, too! Why does it have to be in everything? Oh, cruel fate! :(

Dear Alison,

Are you reading along? I have not seen you much lately! You and Judy are hardly here anymore! We miss you guys! Please say something...anything!

Dear Judy,

Have you heard anything from your doctor recently? I know it is frustrating. I did not like switching doctors, but it was in my best interest. Especially since my last physician was a pill fanatic. He was practically a drug dealer!

Dear Grump,

What have you been up to? I have done nothing cool like fishing. Tom thinks I would enjoy it. I told him not if worms were involved! Now, I could handle cooking them, though! Gutting is your job, however, fellas!

Dear fajitas,

Hello and welcome to the thread! The more the merrier! We appreciate your input! That kidney disease sounds serious. I am glad you could provide information for Christine.

Dear Charlie,

The creative block could very well be part of a herx. It is good that you recognize a connection between the ABX and these symptoms. This is encouraging. Not that it is wonderful you feel out of it, but that this shows the medication is working. The Lyme probably is the primary factor in your neurological issues. For some people, it is the only symptom.

Dear Andrea,

Poor little Seth! He seems highly sensitive! Maybe he will heal in time. For now, I suppose he just has to not be exposed to it. You will have to figure out what is bothering him that is in that supplement. That can be tricky.

Sincerely,

Jin

Sooooooo I guess not a lotta theme songs. I don't quite take a strict interpretation of the notion, as to me there's no limit on the # of them.

But "Make my Haze blow away" will always be a worthy slogan for the vast majority of celiac.com repeat visitors.

Then a few days ago, I'm listening to it while getting carried away writing offline about algernon, into 1996 lil brother stuff. (btw it was this album I cried to on the plane to his memorial - starting w/ "Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye") Very blue eyes & a freak plane crash made it all too applicable.

As I wrote a line whose presence on paper got me crying(actually for other brother), that part of the song I pasted in was on. After all the yrs wasted, it echoes a sentiment of living life to its fullest, w/ no holding back. I owe it to my brothers.

<gah how'd this all get here?>

Listened to it on the way to see lil bro's wife today and got emotional at the exact same spot of the song that was on while writing the other day.

<insert humorous closing here>

Glutathione is something that is produced within the body. You need certain amino acids to build glutathione levels. Whey protein doesnt contain glutathione itself....it contains precursers to glutathione.

Right now I take NAC, Whey Protein and minerals (which contain sulfur and selenium). I eat alot of asparagus and TONS of eggs...but cannot tolerate broccoli or garlic.

Amy's instructions were for Anna to test me for glutathione and milk thistle in 2 months. I did not test well for them right now but she does want me to be taking them eventually. I dont know how the glutathione will be administered....I know some Dr.'s do glutathione IV's.

Its another question that I have for Dr. S. tomorrow. :)

Dear tom,

I think one of my theme songs is "Walkin' on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves. Another song for me is "Redneck Woman" by Gretchen Wilson. :) There are so many to choose from! "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, and "Colorful" by Rocco DeLuca and The Burden also are fitting for me. Tal Bachman's "She's So High Above Me, She's So Lovely" would be great, too!

Sincerely,

Jin

I think I was going too but I got up quickly and put some whey protein in my mouth swished it and swallowed. I then drank a little too. A little in the mouth not too much.

Oh, and I have finished my spreadsheet (Excel) with everyone's Igenix results so if anyone wants a copy let me know.

I'd like a copy as well... I'll pm you my email address...

Yep. One of the reasons, getting sick aside, that I stopped eating them is that it isn't organic corn. A lot of non organic corn is GMO.....plus I don't think corn oil is all that good for us. Probably part of the flavor of these guys though.

I don't know either way, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if non-GMO corn was permitted to be labeled "organic" under USDA organic standards... I'd like to think that isn't the case, but I know the USDA organic standards are a lot more lax than they should be in a number of aspects... not to mention that even if a farmer was growing corn (or other foods) from a regular seed, that his crops could unintentionally become contaminated and overtaken by a GMO seed... how widespread this contamination has become is debatable but it is increasing worldwide and Monsanto has certainly found enough farmers to sue for this unintentional and unwanted contamination of the farmers' crops... The Future of Food is a great documentary on GMO food if anyone's interested...

in terms of buying organic, I tend to develop trust with certain companies and prefer them over simply a label slapped with a symbol showing it's certified USDA organic... take Eden organic foods for example... they don't label any of their foods USDA organic and they have a statement on their website as to why... to paraphrase, they feel it would de-value the quality of their products since the USDA organic standards have been grossly inadequate for a number of years and even though their products meet all the requirements for USDA organic, they don't want to use the label... a company like that I trust more than an average company I'm not familiar with using a USDA organic label... the trust may be misplaced and there's no real way of knowing, but it's what I think is the best informed decision I can make...

not like I'm eating anything from Eden anymore anyway since I stopped eating legumes the start of this year... but in theory it's how I would be shopping... I feel similar in regards to Welshire products, which have a gluten-free, SF, DF key on their foods as well as a website explaining their company's outlook and practices and a straightforward, search-able allergen database for their products...

You sound just like me. I told the dentist to pull all my teeth out and he refused. Says some kind of chinese belief that everything is connected to everything else to make the body work properly or something. I have had blood in my urine.

I have never had protein in my urine before but that is something going on with your kidneys. I just had blood drawn in emergency 2 weeks ago and my BUN was somewhat high. But I think it was because of the milk of magnesia. I also have high ketones but I think that is from not eating very much.

glad your o.k. today though

Thanks,

I know isn't there some Qi, or Qui balance that could get thrown off in the mouth if teeth are removed. lol, who thought of that. Prob some ancient Chinese dude 100 million years ago. Well I'm not gonna mess with him!

I ordered some urine test strips online today, they test for urine, blood, pH, specific gravity, ketones.... 10 things, and it is the product my doctor uses. This way I can save money, by saving trips to the doctor.

I dont know....how much whey protein are you taking?? You should only be taking very small amounts if you're gonna take it. You cant start out with scoopfuls or anything.

I dont know what you've eaten or what other things you've taken so I cant even guess as to whats causing it. Are you writing things down? I've felt like this sometimes when I've eaten high carbs....did you eat something different??

Earlier this weak this happened to me when I ate some potatoes for lunch after having been avoiding the "white" starches for awhile. I got really weak, shaky and dizzy at work....felt like I would pass out. :(

If you've been taking the whey protein consistently and in small doses I kind of doubt it would suddenly cause a reaction....but I dont know how you're taking it...or if you're consistent with it or not. Thats why its important to write things down.

Could it be that you ate something different?

The only thing I changed was I had peas, a little slice of yam and asparagus. I been constipated since I cleaned house on Tuesday. I am sssoo weak today though. I live off of a 700 to 800 calorie diet. I dont know what to do since I cant really digest much.

Had a ball w/ visitors this afternoon. My lil bro sure had himself a heckuva wife & older daughter!! :)

Rachel,

u wouldn't need the Spiceship here. It prob got to 113 in the shade, so you'd need a special thermometer to check temp in the sun. Sit out *there* awhile!!

Tom....glad you had a fun afternoon. :)

Hmmm...I wonder how hot it gets inside the Spiceship??

I'm gonna have to bring a thermometer and find out! If the SpiceShip gets over 113....well.....I dont think I would be nearly as content where you're at. :P

....

BUT.....I *think* I can blame TOM for this.

Sooooo...after NOT having any nut butters for longer than a year...I tried almond butter again.

I got non-organic this time since I've learned that organic brands contain more mold.....not that the pesticides are gonna help me any  ...but still...I didnt want a moldening to occur.

Yeah....the stuff was moldy and I had typical mold reactions that made me suffer quite a bit last week....as I had to finish the jar off.

I got myself hooked on the almond butter again....now I'm gonna be needing an intervention or something. Thanks alot TOM.

Soooo...this week I decided to try to get around the mold issue. I bought some GSE (Grapefruit seed extract)....its antifungal...it kills mold.

......

Okay, I have been ignoring the issue of mold and so really ignoring what you have had to say about almond butter because I love it and my symptoms are much milder than yours but this week I have been into the almond butter big time and I have had more pain. :(

Perhaps I must thank Tom too.:angry::lol:

Do you wash things in the grapefruit seed extract? Or do you take it?

Yes, to more baby pictures from you, the ones we saw we just so cute. :)

....

OK- finally some good news! I felt REALLY good today...like I'd say the best I've felt since maybe a few days I had in April. I still had some nagging symptoms but it wasn't enough to slay me. I've been tracking my symptoms and most days have been in the 3-6 range (0 being dead...anything 5 or below death warmed over). I think I can firmly say today was a 9.

I know that it may be a totally different deal tomorrow, but I am SO greatful for this day because it gave me a taste of what I used to feel like on my good days.

That is wonderful. :D

I wish I could Rachel eggs but I can't digest them. I wonder if lecithin is ok to take for this could this be a mold? What about coconut milk or beans in a can? I need weight Rachel and FAST!

I wonder if you could do icecream like Rachel did. It would feed the candida but if Klinghardt is right and the body produces candida to protect itself from mercury that might not be the worst thing at this point. :)

....

it's been worse the past couple weeks, and I'm actually taking that as a positive sign... when I first started my ABX, I didn't really have the brain fog I was expecting and I was mildly disappointed (I guess as disappointed as one can get that one can actually form some semblance of a thought process)... but sure enough it kicked in after a week or 2 and has been present to a large extent since then... I'm inclined to think that the lyme is the major cause of my neurological symptoms and with them intensifying recently on ABX, I think it goes further to confirm these symptoms are tied to the lyme...

....

It is good to hear from you and it sounds like you are figuring it out. :) I hope you are feeling better soon.

So what has glutathione in it.....aside from whey protein, undenatured?

......

Andrea, I thought I read something about cabbage having glutathione  which I remember thinking was interesting because last year in the midst of what I would now call the crisis point of this illness, I drank a glass of cabbage juice every day for weeks and it really helped. The down side is I haven't been able to look at cabbage since.

Who knew?

.....

Dear Patti,

Where are you? How have you been? We have not seen much from you lately. Are you in the process of moving already? I know you might be overwhelmed right now.

.....

I can see eggshells being missiles. :(

Yes Patti, how is the move going?

And Miamia I was really impressed by all the baking you did. :)

And how are you feeling Laura?

Sooooooo I guess not a lotta theme songs. I don't quite take a strict interpretation of the notion, as to me there's no limit on the # of them.

....

<gah how'd this all get here?>

Listened to it on the way to see lil bro's wife today and got emotional at the exact same spot of the song that was on while writing the other day.

...

I remember just after my father-in-laws funeral we returned to the grave with my husband's niece and a friend of hers for a small private good-bye, at random I put The Indigo Girls on as we were driving and a song came on as we entered the graveyard that was so appropriate.

Secure Yourself

In the ink of an eye I saw you bleed;

Through the thunder I could hear you scream,

Solid to the air I breath,

Open-eyed and fast asleep.

Falling softly as the rain;

No footsteps ringing in your ears.

Ragged down worn to the skin,

Warrior raging, have no fear.

Secure yourself to heaven.

Hold on tight, the night has come.

Fasten up your earthly burdens,

You have just begun.

Kneeling down with broken prayers,

Hearts and bones from days of youth.

Restless with an angel's wing,

I dig a grave to bury you.

No feet to fall,

You need no ground.

Allowed to glide right through the sun,

Released from circles guarded tight,

Now we all are chosen ones.

Secure yourself to heaven.

Hold on tight, the night has come.

Fasten up your earthly burdens,

You have just begun.

There are songs that articulate the moment perfectly.

I also love the Indigo Girls "Closer to Fine" and the lyrics for that are on the same site. :)

Cute picture, it sounds like it was an idyllic time. :)

by the way, you all are out of control with the posting in this thread B) .. this thread alone has more replies than every other sub-forum on this board except for 3 of them... given enough time, I'm sure they'll be overtaken as well...

Charlie....believe it or not this sub-forum came to be because of this thread...discussions with Scott about the thread...and Patti's suggestion for an "additional food intolerance/leaky gut" forum.

Originally I had posted this thread in the "Post Diagnosis" forum. Scott created this sub-forum and moved this thread into it. Right off the bat the new sub-forum had more replies than some of the others which had been on the board for a long time.

I think this "leaky gut" forum has only been around since maybe last summer??

The thread used to be titled..

"OMG....I might be onto something"

"Maybe I can eat dairy again!!"

:lol::lol:

Well....the subtitle totally lost its relevance sometime after the first 100 pages. :P

I thought that too but milk makes me more constipated. :(

I wouldnt recommend it to anyone having problems similar to mine and the ice cream did cause me more problems in the long run. It wasnt the "brightest" thing I've ever done....but I felt kind of desperate.

The ice cream worsened my candida...hence worsening all my reactions to molds, chemicals, etc. I started being alot less active once I started eating the ice cream every day. :(

Dr. Klinghardt does believe that candida overgrowth is the immune systems attempt to protect us from the metals....but at the same time the candida shouldnt be fed so that it grows to even higher levels. Candida does put alot of stress on the liver and immune system....the Dr.'s do use antifungal treatment to keep the candida problem from getting even more out of hand.

Dr. Klinghardt and Dr. Amy treat the fungal issues the same time as they are detoxing the heavy metals. It wouldnt be too wise to feed candida while trying to detox metals....the candida flares up enough as it is. Also milk products (and sugar) are not recommended while detoxing.

My Dr. wants me off sugar, wheat and dairy. The ice cream contains 2 of those offenders.

I wasnt really on a detox protocol while I was consuming all that ice cream...but now that I am...I've stopped eating the ice cream....and I've got a ton of yeast to deal with. :(

So yeah...even though I did it...I wouldnt reccomend it. Even though I didnt have mold reactions to it...it did make me alot worse......probably the reason my yeast antibodies were in the 8,000's.

Welcome to the forum, @Karen Chakerian, We need more information, please.   What homeopathic remedies or medications are you taking now?  Do you still have the blood pressure and other symptoms?  What is included in your diet currently?  Dairy? Oats?  Processed gluten free foods?  Vegetarian?  Other food allergies?  Do you take vitamins?  When gluten is removed from the diet, the body stops making the anti-gluten antibodies that are usually measured in blood tests used to diagnose Celiac disease.  To measure the anti-gluten antibodies, you would have to consume 10 grams of gluten (4-6 slices of bread or equivalent) per day for a minimum of 2 weeks or longer.   A DNA test which looks for the most common genes for Celiac Disease may be a less invasive avenue to pursue.  Has your doctor checked you for nutritional deficiencies? Glad you're here!

@SaiP, Insomnia is listed as one of the side effects of Loratadine.   Niacin B3 in the form Tryptophan, Pyridoxine B 6, Folate B 9, Cobalamine B12, Magnesium, and Thiamine B 1 are needed to produce the sleep hormone melatonin.  Insomnia can also be caused by low Vitamin D and low Vitamin A.   A strict gluten free diet can be low in essential  vitamins.   Gluten containing products are required to replace vitamins lost in processing and milling.  Gluten free processed foods are not required to have vitamins added.  White rice is not a good source of B vitamins.  Brown rice is little better.  Exposure to light (even grocery store lights) and heat (during transportation) can destroy B vitamins.   B vitamins are easily lost in urine and diarrhea because they are water soluble.  If you have had diarrhea longer than two weeks, you are probably low in B vitamins.  Fat based vitamins, like Vitamins D and A, can be low due to fat malabsorption in Celiac disease, too.   Damaged villa in Celiac Disease do not absorb B vitamins and fat based vitamins and minerals well.  Supplementing with essential nutrients while villi heal boosts the ability to absorb essential vitamins and minerals.  Vitamins are stored and utilized inside cells.  Blood levels are not accurate measurements of vitamin deficiencies.  You can have normal blood levels while having deficiencies inside cells.  The brain orders cells to release their stores so the brain and heart can keep functioning.  This results in normal blood levels, but vitamin deficits inside cells.   Your indulgence in a little bit of bread is providing some, but insufficient amounts, of vitamins needed to make sleep hormone melatonin while keeping your inflammation and histamine production high.   In addition to a B Complex, I took 1000 mg of tryptophan before bed to correct my insomnia caused by high histamine levels.  Correcting my Vitamin D level to between 75-100 nmol/ml helped as well.  Also Passion flower extract is helpful in falling asleep quickly.   Please stop eating gluten bread as this will keep your autoimmune response triggering and your antibody levels won't go down and your histamine levels will stay up as well.   Celiac is a marathon, not a sprint.  P.S. I wanted to reiterate that insomnia and weight loss are symptoms of Thiamine deficiency.  Benfotiamine is a form of thiamine that promotes intestinal healing.  Thiamine is water soluble and nontoxic even in high doses.  High doses are needed to correct thiamine deficiency. All mitochondria in cells utilize thiamine.  The World Health Organization says to take 500 - 1000 mg per day of thiamine and look for health improvement.  Diets that are high in carbohydrates like rice and gluten require more thiamine.  For every 1000 calories from carbohydrates, we need 500 mg more thiamine.  Thiamine is found in meat.  Few veggies contain thiamine. Can you rise from a squat without assistance?  This is the field test for thiamine deficiency used by WHO.  If you cannot rise easily from a squat you may be thiamine deficient.

Earlier, you mentioned the possibility of adding in sweet potatoes. Have you tried that? Have you tried sourdough bread? Some people with celiac disease claim they can eat sourdough without a gluten reaction. The fermentation process alters the protein somewhat.

Welcome to the forum, @Karen Chakerian! So, for the sake of clarity, you have self-diagnosed yourself as having celiac disease but are not officially diagnosed by medical testing. Is this correct?

I’m 70 years old and have RA for 25 years. I’d never had digestive issues or even heard of celiac until 2 months ago.  6 years ago I started having serious diarrhea, dropped what little weight I had,  became very exhausted, developed rapid onset blood pressure and other symptoms. I went to the doctor for an unrelated matter and even with my records he told me they have ‘pills’ for all those things; which I turned down and sought to deal with this with homeopathic remedies.  Mid October 2024 my guts hurt terribly and started to swell. My massage therapist asked about celiac and I started to do research on it. It absolutely fits all the symptoms so I’ve been gluten free since 2 days before Thanksgiving but the huge gut persists. Thankfully the pain and cramps are gone. I look like a 90# pregnant skeleton.  I’m exhausted and looking for some encouragement from the tribe. I have good days and bad. I know living with an autoimmune disease sucks but this is even worse than the RA.
