Thanks for posting that Klinghardt post. That was interesting.......not that I understood all of it.

Andrea....he was basically just saying that pathogenic microorganisms (bugs) are living in all of us.....many different species.

Then he listed (in order) the microorganisms most often found in all of those various diseases (ALS, MS, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, etc)

From ART he knows which bugs show up more frequently in relationship with certain disease symptoms. You can see that he has Borrelia showing up in about half of these diseases. Its the second most common bug found in ALS, Parkinsons and Bells Palsy...this is not surprising at all.

Borrelia is the 4th most common bug showing up in MS. Second most common in back/neck pain.

He talks about how bacteria and fungi can exchange DNA back and forth.....for their own survival....they can form resistance to drugs in this way. This is nothing new.

Its only recent that they are discovering viruses can also borrow RNA and DNA strands from some of the more "smart" bacteria. The ones who have developed ways of evading the immune system (like Borrelia).

The viruses can plug into that and hence...they can also evade the immune system by "appearing" to be the bacteria that the immune system isnt recognizing. They can then thrive undetected by the immune system....and they can also become drug resistant.

They are calling it "viteria"....combination of virus/bacteria.

He is saying it can make things more challenging in ART.

You will see when T is tested in a few days how they do it. They have materials (usually slides) which contain the actual pathogens, metals, fungi, etc.

When there is direct resonance in the body from an organism in the slide...it means that whats in the slide is also in the body. Like when she tests my entire body with the Borrelia slide....everything is clear until she gets to my head...this is where the Borrelia is.

The new problem he's describing is that if a virus has "borrowed" DNA from a "smart" bacteria (say Borrelia)....it can then be detected as Borrelia in ART when its actually a virus who might be carrying around bits of Borrelia DNA.

Since part of ART involves finding the right treatment to effectively treat the condition.....this is how they are able to determine if its actually bacteria or virus.

If none of the Lyme treatments are effective at all....yet anti-viral treatments are effectively taking care of the condition...then it becomes obvious that they are dealing with virus and any Lyme treatments would be completely useless. Antibiotics would not work against a virus.

He's also saying stimulants like coffee and cocaine can open the blood brain barrier...allowing a virus to enter the central nervous system.....permanantly.

He mentions a few other things that can sometimes allow for that to happen as well...cell phones, acupuncture, some neural therapy, etc.

Then he just mentions some of the more effective treatment options.

Hope that makes better sense of it. :)

Hey SJ-ers!

Wasn't there recent talk of it being warm or even hot there??

I just saw a forecast for my trip (Wed-Sun) and only *ONCE* is it supposed to top 70F!!!!!!

**[edit: Oh wth!! NBC11 site said the above, but yahoo says 10deg higher!!]

I'd been thinking I wouldn't even bring a jacket! :o

Whew it'll be too weird. Going on 1am here and still 95. I probably haven't worn long pants since a xmas get-together. Or was that Thxgvg? Hmmmmmm <uh oh better not say that - never mind>

Actually kind of tickled at the prospect of cool weather. (Ehhhhh isn't there an at least slightly more manly word for tickled? Giddy sure ain't it. Delighted? Bah. . . . . PSYCHED D00D!! )

DingoGirl Enthusiast
I am thinking Jin is definitely our columnist and that that was just a slip. :)

and you would be correct. ;) so Tom, settle down. :P

Borrelia is the 4th most common bug showing up in MS. Second most common in back/neck pain.

 what? what does this mean exactly? is that just specific to those hosting Lyme, or for anyone? cause my back and neck hurt all the time....but I feel it's skeletal (getting xray results tomorrow - er, today actually)......

See, I DO read the science!!!

Nasty bout of insomnia. Bah. eyes too tired to read much, nothing good on TV, cannot quite get comfy w/ back....so.....turned on computer and just ate more ice cream......help me  . And no one is available to chat w/ at 2:30 a.m., still only 5:30 east coast......must make a friend in Hawaii, I think, as they are five hours behind. Could call my friend in England but must first research cost of said call......imagine finding phone bill $100 higher or some other ghastly fee just from one international spurt of insomniatic, meaningless babble.

Susie is finding herself in the rare circumstance of being....bored.

I asked my mom why my doctor took away the whey and she said the doctor said that it is probably taking away my calories and vitamins. I felt awful when I would take the whey protein. No energy, no stamina, very depressed and achy. I feel better off of it.

The funny thing is that I didn't even tell my doctor how I felt being on whey protein. It made all my limbs feel very heavy. I think it also caused me to lose more weight. I may take it someday. Just not today.

Do you think it's the candida and mercury and parasites causing all this constipation. YOu would think that we would have the runs.

Makes sense to me.

Sometimes I think we are merely vehicles for the development of more sophisicated viruses.:angry::lol:

As for PERMANENTLY crossing the brain barrier, :o too late. Further, it is not enough for me to stop wanting that cup of coffee. :(

See, I DO read the science!!!

As if there was any doubt. :P

And what is this about neck and back pain? Mmmm, last week your back was hurting , but was that because of your gardening? I'm glad to know you are having it looked at. :)

Dear Donna,

I love your new vocabulary words! B) They will be perfect for the Rachelville Dictionary! Herxify and Lymify are great words! They are also fun to say! You should see people's faces when I use Rachelville terms!

Maybe I should go back to doing the aerobics. I will have to start slow, though. I need to work up to 20 minutes. I could start with 5 minutes and add a little more the next week. I had no idea how many other purposes it could serve beside cardio!

Mom was glad to hear someone else had suffered with difficulties with the fish oil! She had stomach cramps and D from them. She thought she had that nasty stomach virus again. I wonder if there are any other ways to get those healthy EFAs without that side effect. Any suggestions?

I do not know if I could even tolerate a massage. My body hurts so bad sometimes. Stretching seems to help some. The Pilates actually helped a lot. Maybe I should go back to doing those.

Oh, yes! I love funky nailpolish colors! They are so fun to play with! I want that OPI polish so bad! I might at least be able to treat myself to that!

Dear Carla,

I appreciate your advice on the flutes. I prefer to buy from places that know what they are selling. Music stores are the best when you can afford them. I wondered about the JC Penney instruments. Since you play the flute, you would know! :) I will keep the place in Bloomington in mind!

Dear Laura,

I am glad to see some posts from you! What have you been up to? Are you doing alright? We have not heard much from you. I wonder where Judy is. I have not seen her either!

Dear Lisa,

It sounds like you had a very productive appointment! :) I am so happy for you! I think you are on the right track!

Postponing your appointment with the dentist was probably a good move. The digestion being so messed up is a major issue.

You will only decrease progress if that is troublesome.

As far as the feeding tube goes, I am not sure, but think they are surgically inserted. I could be wrong. I know the woman I spoke to at the surgeon's several years ago had one. I assume that is why she was there. She was probably going to schedule the procedure to remove it.

That enema mishap was so terrible! :o I would have been grossed out, too! I am sort of squeamish anyway. You mentioned Fleet enemas. I have used those in the past. They worked quite well.

Dear fajitas,

You came to the right place for amalgam removal questions! Rachel has the best info! She has been there already.

She is more than happy to save people from the misery she endured and is still trying to recover from it. As she said, you do not want to go to a regular dentist to remove these fillings, especially considering you have so many (9 I believe you said) and they have been in there for two or three decades.

Another danger you may not be aware of with these fillings is, they can go elsewhere. If they break off while being drilled out or while you are chewing, they can become embedded in your jaw bone. That is really scary! Even if you get the amalgams removed, if this has occurred, the symptoms from mercury poisoning will not go away. This is very important to keep in mind.

Dear Barbara123,

I am so glad you finally have an answer! Even better, your doctor acknowledged your intelligence! A number of doctors I had said I could not possibly have Celiac either. Most of them were G.I. doctors. That should tell you something. Have I given you my beginner's list? I thought I did, but just let me know if you need it.

Dear Rachel,

Thank you for the amalgam removal protocol. I am glad you posted that! I thought I might have some of this information, but just in case, thought copying it into a document was a good idea! I do not have any mercury fillings, but my mother does. It is good to have in case I have to convince someone to get rid of that metal before they go senile and completely lose their mind.

The post you had from Klinghardt is wonderful, too! It was so fascinating! I always wondered about viruses and bacteria mixing! I thought the part about the DNA and RNA being borrowed by the virus from the bacteria was especially interesting. Isn't it frightening what these microorganisms are capable of?

Speaking of Dr. K, I saw something interesting. They had a quote from him in Women's World. He said to avoid the mercury absorption when eating fish, to eat cilantro with it. It did not say how much, though. I recall you have repeatedly discussed this for chelation purposes.

Dear Andrea,

I am sorry to hear about T's mood still being rotten. Maybe the testing will reveal something when she gets it done.

Bad moods can be caused by a lot of things. Food allergies are a common cause, but others could exist. Hopefully, you will figure it out soon.

Did you say there was a terrible storm there the other day? I am no stranger to that! Houses being stripped from the foundation like that is a definite sign of a stronger tornado. That typically indicates an F4. We had one of those touchdown

in November of 2005.

I can relate to wanting to lose some weight, too. Lately, I actually am losing some. It is probably because of my Thyroid. I may need to lose about 20 pounds, too. My trouble is, so far I have lost six pounds, and it all appears to be in the boobs. :(

It was you that posted about the immunizations? I wonder why I thought it was Rinne. All of this scientific talk between her and tom has got me thinking on the wrong track. I can PM you. My e-mail address is fairly unusual you will find.

Dear tom,

Contrarian Spice is at it again! He is trying to blame you for things. Telling people to get rid of the nutbutter in the fridge, telling us to use the geese! What a trouble-maker he is! Next he will steel the Lymerdida Guadalupe! Be on the lookout!

I wonder how you could eat hot-sour soup now since you cannot have soy. I am not sure you could make it without soy. One thing that is interesting about it is that it is considered to ordinary to serve at a banquet. I thought that was odd. It really is funny, though about the fortune cookies. I miss going there!

I am surprised you had never heard of crabmeat rangoon. There is also shrimp rangoon. It is delicious! I am going to make some this coming week! You just take rice paper wrappers, cut into fourths, and fill each with a mixture of crab or shrimp meat blended with scallions, a bit of garlic, and cream cheese! You seal them with a cornstarch and water paste. You are talking heaven! Then you put them on a plate on top of a tuna can with both ends cut out, in a wok with a couple inches of boiling water underneath with the lid on. You keep them like this for 20 minutes. You can also fry them.

I suppose I am the columnist! I would love to have my own column! I would do a Sound Off column, where I gripe about whatever is irritating me. One thing is for certain, I would never run out of material! Something is always ticking me off! Especially family!

Dollface is really an automatic pistol kind of girl. She likes instant results. Plus, choking people could break a nail. She is a model. Dollface has to look perfect all of the time.

The Final is not going well to say the least. I keep calculating and recalculating these things. I cannot find anything that even remotely resembles the five choices on any of these questions. I only have until tonight to do this! I am freaked!

Dear Bev,

That is so funny how you and your husband got together! It is so odd how things work out. You probably never expected to marry him. I believe in fate and soulmates. If it is meant to be, it will happen.

You have racheled coffee enemas? No wonder your system is in an uproar! Watch it with those things! You can die from caffeine poisoning you know! Be careful!

Dear Rinne,

Dollface does have her good points. She is loyal to the girls. She will help a friend if they need it. However, she is cold the rest of the time. Her mother has always beat her down, and she is tired of it. Men are a whole other story.

I think I must have mixed you up with Andrea somehow. Maybe it is because you both live up north. She is in Washington, and you are in Canada. I thought that I was responding to what you wrote. It could be the science discussion you and tom were having that I meant to respond to. I am so distracted with this stupid final! Then there was the hair crisis, but that is over now.

Dear Susie,

Now that I am a columnist, I suppose I need to change my signature! I am also the official holiday enactor. Some of the new members missed that! It is so much fun! We still are undecided on the parade, though. The float, remember? None of us could decide between a big Lyme Green Tick or something else.

I know how you feel with the weight issue. I actually looked too thin being a size 4 before. Now that I have hips, I cannot lose too much weight, or it won't look right. I used to wear a size 0 or size 2. That was before becoming a woman officially! I shot up like 4 sizes in a year because of that! :(

I am pear-shaped. That complicates things. They do not make clothing for people like that. They make it for toothpick people. Some of these pants I am lucky to fit one butt-cheek in. Being menstrual never helps that, and since I have been continuously so for over two years now, shopping is not very appealing.

I love your new avatar! Your furry baby is so cute! Ours peed on my shoes yesterday! My perfectly white sneakers were defiled! I hate Yorkies! Do not get one, they are gross and stupid. I also am anxious to hear the results on your X-Rays by the way! I thought I would mention that!

Dear Alison,

I hope you can avoid surgery, too! I do not see why you should have it if you do not need it. Normally, surgeons do not operate unless they absolutely have to. It was like pulling teeth to get my doctor to let me see a surgeon when my gallbladder was in. We do not mind if you hijack the thread, afterall, we are so glad to see you!

Dear Charlie,

Those probiotics definitely are helpful. I do not think it would hurt increasing the amount you take. It probably is wise considering you might need more with those antibiotics being in the system. They kill off all bacteria, good or bad. You have to replenish it. I take my probiotics with food, but some supplements recommend you take them 30 minutes prior or after a meal.

Dear Everyone,

I got to see my best friend's brother today. We have not seen each other in a while. It was nice to get to talk. He stayed out here for an hour, and we talked and he showed me his new car. Andrew is really excited because not only is he moving out before his sister, but he is going to Vincinnes University in the fall. I am really happy for him.

Later last night, I suffered a lot. I racheled half a tube of Lay's Stax Original potato chips. The fat must have been too much. Shortly after, I got very ill with horrible stomach cramps ( I think it might have been labor for giving birth to that alien baby). That is how bad it was. It was a lot like the pain I used to get when I had a gallbladder attack. My colon felt like a double-edged sword was going through it!

Now for my hair crisis. I was freaking out trying to decide if I should do my hair like Jennifer Aniston's or not. Then, I called the hairdresser to see how the hair did. She took a snippet to play with. She applied the bleach over and over and she could not get it to lighten!

It would not have worked! So now I know the black is me! I am no longer confused. She said there are other things she could try. I told her, if it is going to be that much work, never mind! It would be too exhausting for both of us!

Sincerely,

Jin

Nice pic. Am I seeing a bellyrub-beggar?

I never had a dog, but I'll never forget my favorite. Last college girlfriend (ya - learned the hard way about typing gee-eff) had the greatest Border Collie. Smallish for the breed, and w/ so many great qualities. So calm and mannered, "Flint" could be fed individual grains of rice by hand!!!!!! (Extra bonus for name as my Mom's side of the family was all Flint, MI)

But the most fun was that since Karin could throw a decent football, we'd have games (ok maybe better called drills) w/ Karin @QB, me receiver and Flint on defense. Flint caught on immed! Oh lmao I would even wear *cleats* !! It ain't easy trying to fake a dog! Zero chance if I slipped in regular shoes.

Oh and "Sue" - great little poem. Such economy of syllables is to be lauded.

Okay, two days down with no nuts or nut butters!

Now, (and not saying this is connected with the nut butter thing, although it would be nice to blame the troubles of the world on my lack of nut butter consumption) I am having random joint pain...it seems more connected to that stupid injection on Friday. My knees USED to ache very badly before I went gluten/casein free, and once I cut those out, the pain mostly stopped except for a little bit of achiness in the right knee from time to time. Since Friday, both knees are very painful (but they take turns hurting), then my wrist started hurting again, now my neck (on the same side as the injection shoulder) is hurting badly again. What the heck is up with THAT!?

Can pain be triggered in other parts of the body from one single source of excruitating pain?!

Oh ya!

What? One little "multi-dimensional spectrum of situationally-dependent blahblah" doubles my culpritude???

 I think. May need a lymification here.

Did you ever have an MRI? Because everything you describe sounds exactly like my shoulder, and I have a torn supraspinatus tendon, which was only diagnosed after an MRI.

Hum, I see a PT and chiropractor (in conjunction with each other) fairly regularly, but haven't seen them since the injection...I see them tomorrow. I'll mention it to both. I have not had an MRI of my shoulder...have had one for my knee and multiple CT scans of my head (no comments from any peanut gallery types), and Xrays of my cervical spine... I'll make sure I talk to the chiropractor tomorrow and he'll talk with the PT people.

quick question... for those of you taking probiotics (or when you were taking them)... when during the day did you take them and with or without food, how far away from food if not with food?

I've heard it both ways...I usually just take it as directed on the bottle or by my doctor. The ones I take now I take on an empty stomach. I'm not sure how many actually reach the intestines though cuz I take it out of the capsule (and do the same with all my other supplements) and put it in a glass of water. My one doctor told me I could take two a day while I was doing the H.Pylori treatment (which involved taking two antibiotics at the same time).

I'm about to start a new one, which I'll be talking with my LLMD today about...I'll see what he says.

Hey SJ-ers!

Wasn't there recent talk of it being warm or even hot there??

Well, I think it's still cool in the evening and early morning hours, and if there's a breeze it's cool during the day...I think you'd definitely describe it as cool compared to where you are. :P I thought it was plenty hot yesterday though.

Susie is finding herself in the rare circumstance of being....bored.

OMGosh...I was so bored the other day I didn't even want to play a game online! Too bad about the insomnia...I had a little of that myself last night. :(

Mom was glad to hear someone else had suffered with difficulties with the fish oil! She had stomach cramps and D from them. She thought she had that nasty stomach virus again. I wonder if there are any other ways to get those healthy EFAs without that side effect. Any suggestions?

Well I see my LLMD today and he's the one who wanted me to take them, so I plan to ask about it. There must be other types of essential fatty acids one can take. I know the one I bought from him didn't have mercury in it, so it was just the ingredients causing reactions, and I had similar reactions as your mom did.

CarlaB Enthusiast
quick question... for those of you taking probiotics (or when you were taking them)... when during the day did you take them and with or without food, how far away from food if not with food?

My doc says to take them 30 minutes before a meal or after if I forget, but they have to be an hour before abx (or two hours after). All my meals include abx, so I take the probiotics during the day away from everything, at least two hours apart from abx.

I don't think it's a bad idea to take them twice daily. My LLMD has Chloe taking probiotics in the morning and abx in the evening. You can take your two pills both at the same time (I do).

I use Ultra Flora and Theralac. They're stronger than what you buy at the health food store. Looking at long-term abx, I'd really recommend the Theralac.

Carla

Yeah I have thought of a feeding tube. How would I go about that. That kind of scares me though.

You would have to get it from a doctor. I would tell your new doctor how much trouble you have eating and how few calories you are eating.

I agree that more calories are important. I dont think it will necessarily improve the constipation though.

No, you can be eating a lot and still be constipated. What got me thinking this with Lisa is that she's saying she can't feel the stool in her colon ... it's like it's not there. So, I was wondering whether she was possibly reabsorbing it ... which obviously would prevent detoxification. I think it's something to talk to the new doctor about.

Sincerely,

Jin

I did not get a beginners list from you, but would love one. Dont know what i did but woke up this morning vomiting again. :( feel so bad today, hurt all over, brain fog, and achy bones. Cant type hard to read thanks so much in advance. Have to lay down. BARBARA123

Okay, two days down with no nuts!

What, did you take a break of a couple days from here????

Now, I am having random joint pain...it seems more connected to that stupid injection on Friday.

My joint pain went away with my dietary changes ... but it eventually came back. It's the Lyme. I get it in the exact same spots ... only it's usually my left knee (sometimes right knee). I think that initially the dietary changes stregthened my immune system and it took care of the joint pain, but as the infection grew, it came back. My theory anyway.

Chloe hasn't had a headache since she's been on the medication -- they used to be daily. We still have one more med to add in. She has a little more joint pain that she used to, but I don't think that's abnormal ... the Lyme is getting stirred up.

I'd say she is definately responding to abx (in both a positive and negative way), so it's making it pretty clear that the clinical diagnosis was correct.

Hum, I am taking some herbal stuff for the lyme now, and I just added in ALA too, so I guess that all could be working together somehow to stir things up...possibly coincidental to the shoulder fiasco. The pain IS usually in the same joints...the right wrist, the right knee (with sometimes a bit in the left knee) and the left neck/head/shoulder area.

Sorry it's a bad day for you ... it takes time to heal.

I think I'm not bouncing back from this herx due to the new chelator. I'm keeping up with all my detox protocols to try to help with it ... also drinking lemon/lyme water daily. It's not totally wiping me out ... and I don't know that it's possible to remove the metals with no pain at all. Makes me wonder how much better I'll feel once I get rid of them!

Gotta get my lazy butt to the gym ... my BIL (Adam's business partner) came up to see the new house. He's willing to move the office there (it doubles his commute), but wants a piece of the action ... that's great because it frees up our financial leverage so maybe we can still buy the house across the street! ;)

He was okay with my rent free till I'm making money deal, too (we gave him other concessions). :) I'm thinking that I'll open next spring. With my health being so unpredictable right now, I don't think it's a good idea to try to push it and open at Thanksgiving. If my herxes keep lightening up as they have been the past five months, I should be doing significantly better by then.

I get the left wrist, LOL. I am left-handed, btw.

Susie, are you a lefty? Who else has posted artwork? Donna, what about you? Artists tend to be left-handed. In an art class I took back when I was a teenager, the teacher and just about everyone was left-handed.

My shoulders hurt when I start wearing heavier clothes and coats in the winter. Always have .... I thought that everyone felt this. :o:lol:

Sometimes I get it in the lower back, too.

I'm right handed, but I can write with my left hand too...just not quite as neat as my right is. Haven't tried painting with my left hand, but maybe things would look better if I did.

CarlaB Enthusiast

When I was a child I was completely abidexterous (how do you spell that anyway??? ). I couldn't tell my right from my left until I was a teenager because of it! I would even sometimes write completely backwards like you were looking in a mirror.

I'd bet anything that you are a lefty and you are right handed because that's the one they told you to hold your pencil with.

I paint with both hands equally well ... whether it's painting the house or painting on canvas. It makes painting on canvas so much easier because I hold the lighter colored brush in one hand and the darker in the other ... I paint with both at the same time.

I can write with my right hand, and sometimes will if my left is holding something, but it's not as neat as my left.

I eventually chose my left hand because of coloring books ... I'd color with my right on the right side of the page, and my left for the left side. When I'd color with friends, I'd always get the left page, so that hand got more practice. ;)

Oh damn that suh-ucks.

And you've been gluten-free 3 wks now right? (Except for that mishap after appt)

I'd like to hear others weigh in on this next notion.

At ~3wks gluten-free, the body's already getting much more sensitive to gluten?? I know it happens to most ppl, but no idea of the timing.

It is my best guess tho. So many stories of ppl's worst effects of accidental glutening are 2 or 3 days later.

In this scenario, it wasn't anything u did more recently than in Salt Lake.

Did u see I took down the ahemBarassed comment? Seems I couldn't just edit & I suppose that makes sense. Had to wait until I was on a real pc. <tom = 'surfs w/ sidekick'>

Oh oh oh!!! I've looooooooooved my times in SLC! During college, had several ski trips nearby. That Utah snow is paramount for skiing.

Then, in 2002, I got to be there for the Oh-freaking-LYMpics!!! Only 1 event but the whole atmo rocked. Talked to Sasha Cohen for a sec on the street heeheehee.

:D:lol::)

Hope u feel a ton better soon!

Buy some wheat-free soy sauce!!! Ppl bring it w/ them to asian restaurants.

I used to think Tamari = wheat-free but found out otherwise. (Not the hard way, thank u)

But I think it's *almost* all Tamari (is Tamari-style soysauce an actual phrase?) and a minority of straight soy sauces are wheat-free.

[Edit grrrrrrr I forgot the most important part I was gonna write! <doing!>

It's Jin (NoGluGirl) w/ that list. I've seen it. You'll like it. Use it. :) :)

Again, hope u feel much better soon. I think u will. Good luck! ]

Then he listed (in order) the microorganisms most often found in all of those various diseases (ALS, MS, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, etc)

I couldn't believe how many microorganisms have been associated with all these things.

I need to look to see if I can find any info on the bi-polar microorganism.....forget the name. One of Mitch's son's has bi-polar and is also pre-diabetic or diabetic now. He refuses to change his diet and he's told us we are crazy (as far as our diet talk).

 what? what does this mean exactly? is that just specific to those hosting Lyme, or for anyone? cause my back and neck hurt all the time....but I feel it's skeletal (getting xray results tomorrow - er, today actually)......

I'm sorry you had an insomniac night and were bored to boot. :(

I'd still really, really, really like to see you get tested for lyme when you can. :)

Sounds like a great dog!

Isn't it frightening what these microorganisms are capable of?

:ph34r::ph34r:

Speaking of Dr. K, I saw something interesting. They had a quote from him in Women's World. He said to avoid the mercury absorption when eating fish, to eat cilantro with it.

I'd heard that! Hmmmm maybe a tv segment, since I can picture the cilantro. Ohhhhhh I do loooooove cilantro!! :)

Dear tom,

Contrarian Spice is at it again! He is trying to blame you for things. Telling people to get rid of the nutbutter in the fridge, telling us to use the geese! What a trouble-maker he is!

I actually really liked his 'st.bernard-barreling-the-nutbutter-to-a-goose' idea!!

Prevent the passing whim from interrupting a test.

Donna, I don't even know how u can resist what's right there.

Rinne? Do u have the nuts/nutbutter in the house during test too?

I don't think I ever bothered to *attempt* a test w/ whatever food around. I'd eat it at some point. And it would've mocked me until I did!!

I wonder how you could eat hot-sour soup now since you cannot have soy. I am not sure you could make it without soy. One thing that is interesting about it is that it is considered to ordinary to serve at a banquet. I thought that was odd. It really is funny, though about the fortune cookies. I miss going there!

Heheh guess I misrepresented that. No idea when I last had any. I do know where tho!

SJ-ers! It was the one in the heart of Willow Glen, east side of Lincoln.

Tried it there yrs b4 moving to WG.

All that other Hot&Sour talk was about 10-15 yrs ago! I'd tried maybe 10 places' H&S around SJ and was very lucky that my fav was the closest one!! (Mission Blvd in Fremont btw - betw 880 & 680)

That chinese banquet stuff is VERY interesting! I've been to a couple traditional chinese feasts, (wedding, baby-related), and it blew me away all the foods that were like *must-haves*, lest we bring bad luck. I did NOT try the pig's ears!!!! (They, blech, 'slurped' them I swear)

I am surprised you had never heard of crabmeat rangoon. There is also shrimp rangoon. It is delicious!

Surprised me too. Lotta google hits for something I never heard of.

And I almost WENT to Rangoon!! Biz trip in Thailand and Rangoon was closer that Chicago to Evansville, but we went east instead to a beach/golfing resort. Damn golfers! (I'm not one)

Dollface is really an automatic pistol kind of girl. She likes instant results. Plus, choking people could break a nail.

Heheheheh

Seriously - what's it take to put down a deposit on a future issue?? :)

Nooooooooooooooooo!! Aren't there 3 inches of ingred in those? Oh wait - did u recently say they have only 3 ingred. Grrr no that was a chip I'd never heard of.

I propose *none* of us eat things w/ an ingred list u can't say in one breath.

:):)

Well, I'm no expert on the testing numbers, but I'd be happy with a positive like that. You said your appointment with the gastro was in October?! Is that for further testing, cuz if so it would most likely come out negative if you continue eating gluten free.

Donna, I don't even know how u can resist what's right there.

Your approach is spot-on—trusting reliable sources like Mayo Clinic and sticking to a gluten-free diet that works for you is the best way to navigate all the noise out there. The claim that rice and corn contain forms of gluten harmful to celiacs is indeed a misconception. While these grains do contain proteins that may technically be referred to as "glutens" in a broader scientific sense, they are structurally and functionally different from the gliadin found in wheat, which is the specific protein harmful to those with celiac disease. Scientific research overwhelmingly supports the safety of non-contaminated rice and corn for celiacs unless there’s a separate sensitivity or allergy involved. Some opinion pieces or alternative health sources may blur the lines by conflating these proteins, which can cause unnecessary worry. You're absolutely correct to focus on the distinction between scientifically validated information and anecdotal claims. It's also important to note that some people with celiac disease may develop sensitivities to other grains over time, but this is individual and not a universal rule. If you’re asymptomatic and thriving on a diet that includes certified gluten-free products with rice and corn, there’s no reason to change what’s clearly working for you. The internet is a breeding ground for well-meaning but misguided advice, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Your instinct to validate claims through reliable research is exactly the right way to go. Keep enjoying your gluten-free meals, stick with trusted certifications, and don’t feel pressured to adopt restrictive diets that aren’t backed by science or tailored to your specific needs. Happy New Year to you too!

Healing and regaining energy after a celiac diagnosis can be a frustratingly slow process, but you're not alone in feeling this way! Everyone's healing journey is different, and factors like age, how long celiac was undiagnosed, and the extent of intestinal damage can all play a role. In general, villi can begin to heal within a few weeks to months after starting a strict gluten-free diet, but for some adults—especially those diagnosed later in life—it can take a year or more to see significant improvement. Studies suggest that older adults may heal more slowly, but it does happen with consistent gluten avoidance. Since you're already taking iron, vitamin D3, and a multivitamin, you're on the right track. Here are a few additional tips that might help: Be Patient with Your Body: It’s hard to wait, but healing takes time. Track your progress in small ways—maybe energy levels on a scale of 1-10 each week—to notice gradual improvements. Check for Other Deficiencies: Sometimes celiacs have trouble absorbing other nutrients, like B12, magnesium, or zinc, which can also affect energy levels. Your doctor may want to test for these. Consider Other Conditions: Fatigue can be linked to other issues like thyroid problems, adrenal fatigue, or even sleep disturbances, which can sometimes occur alongside celiac disease. It might be worth discussing this with your healthcare provider. Stay Active, but Pace Yourself: Gentle exercise, like walking or yoga, can help improve energy levels, but don’t push yourself too hard—listen to your body. Hydration and Balanced Meals: Make sure you're drinking enough water and eating a balanced gluten-free diet with plenty of whole foods. Sometimes highly processed gluten-free products can leave you feeling sluggish. Remember, healing isn’t just physical—it’s also mental. You’ve made a huge, positive change by going gluten-free, and your body is working hard to repair itself. It’s okay to feel impatient, but know that you're moving in the right direction. Hang in there—you’ll get there!

Hi Scott, I thought I'd be like "most people" and could go back to having dairy once my villi had healed.  But after dealing with neurological problems that cropped up long after my gut had healed it turned out that this just wasn't true.  I have no idea if celiac influences pancreatic enzyme production or if it's the other way around--for some of us-- but there is a very real relationship that isn't being discussed with patients.  The article just reiterates information that can mislead you if your real problem is pancreatic not villi related.

Welcome to the forum, @Amyinwyoming! Answers to your question that you might receive may not be helpful to you as an individual since sensitivity levels vary significantly within the gluten sensitive/gluten intolerant/celiac community. The other complicating factor is that low levels of gluten in a product may not cause obvious symptoms but may still generate low level inflammation in the small bowel. When in doubt, it is best to pass on the product. I'm not a particularly sensitive celiac so I might allow myself to eat something at a guest's house that was made from a food product with the kind of disclaimer label you describe but I typically shy away from buying them or consuming them when I have a choice.
