There is no MSG, but there is "yeast extract" ... is that code for MSG?

Hello all,

It's me again - that little gnat that won't stop buzzing around - I'll try to stay out of Jin's coffee. I was reading about Carla's Yeast Extract / MSG issue this morning - particularly strange timing for me. When I saw yeast extract as an ingredient, i was going to give a heads up, but Charlie had already done that.

Something crazy has happened & I don't know what to make of it.

When I gave up wheat, I also gave up MSG. So, here it's been 8 months that I've been wheat and MSG free. I wanted to test wheat again because we'll be going on vacation soon and I really don't want to fear cross-contamination - it really puts a damper on a vacation when you can't go to restaurants at all. I had to see what would happen if I ate a small amount of wheat.

So, yesterday at noon, I ate a small crouton sized piece of whole grain bread. I've had exactly Zero problems so far. Nothing. All plumbing is working properly today and my mood is pretty normal - no heart arrhythmia last night, no anxiety or depression feelings. I don't think I'd go back to wheat on a regular basis. I just think it's a very highly inflammatory food.

So, MSG looks like it may be a bigger problem for me than wheat. What I can't figure out is why I got so sick when I ate stuff with flour in it a few months ago. I'm completely confused right now. I'll have to test wheat again soon. I'm actually afraid to test MSG because of the heart arrhythmia thing. I used to get this really frightening ka-thunk and rapid beat thing. That's why I didn't want to test wheat also - I haven't had this problem since December. I don't mind getting sick occasionally, but I do freak out when my heart goes ka-thunk. Anyway, it will be interesting (to me, at least) to see what happens in the coming months. Maybe it's MSG.

Dear Julie,

The Atkins Diet was something I was never in favor of. I know you mostly lose muscle and not fat from them. You also have to increase your fluid intake, because high protein diets can dehydrate you. It takes more water to digest them.

That chi machine is neat! I wish I could afford one! They are not as expensive as I expected! Maybe one day I can have one! I did not even know there were portable ones!

"Tastebud Adventures with NoGluGirl" is certainly going to include alternatives for people with multiple allergens. I am open to suggestions. That is where I could use others' input. Dad said he could shoot it. He is a good cameraman! The trouble is finding time for him to do it.

Something else is, I cannot film it in our kitchen. It is a mess! The carpet needs replaced, and there is nowhere to put anything. I am going to ask my grandparents if they will allow me to borrow their kitchen for a short while. I also will include health tips and organizing and craft projects!

Hi Jin, I feel the same way about the no carb diets, they were definitely not for me. I think everyone has to do what is best for them, and some people do really well with them. Me, not so much. I definitely had major wasting and a whole bunch of other serious side effects. You bring up a good point I was completely dehydrated even though I drank tons of water and ate lots of high water content veggies. On the bioscan I would show up as bone dry and they gave me special hydrating waters, but that never helped. I was just literally pulling all of the water out of my system.

The chi machine I linked to is what we have always called a "chi machine" it's a infratonic machine, the vibrating paddle is to be applied to all the accupuncture points or to the different chakras, it can be used in a variety of ways, and set on different purposes like "body", "mind", and "spirit". It's good for treating pain, physical and emotional, helps with inflammation in the body, traumas (bone fractures, soft tissue injuries, pulled muscles, back pain, scar tissue, etc.)

The portable chionizer is fabulous:

"The CHIonizer is a breakthrough in environmental conditioning technology that dramatically improves the comfort of air travel by purifying, normalizing and energizing the field around the body. Its patented process protects both your body's electrical and magnetic fields against toxic and debilitating energy fields. It also purifies your personal airspace by destroying airborne germs with negative ions. "

Your cooking show title is so cute! I hope you get all the details all worked out and find a location to shoot it. Sounds like a lot of fun :)

Hi Julie. I am currently taking citricidal (Nutricidal), and have taken it in the past. The first time was years ago for amoeba and a couple of other parasites that I forget what they were. Seems like it was a protozoan. My doc had me take it last year for awhile to try to help with the lyme and help me get off antibiotics. However, I was really struggling with stomach issues (h pylori plus likely celiac that I didn

This is exactly what I'm doing right before my LED treatments....I'm actually more level with the chi machine though. They dont just use a mat to lay on....they have it more like a little bed (with blankets). I get cozy under the blankets....and then I wiglgle around like a fish.

Julie,

Heres the info. I tried to post yesterday about the Citricidal.

CITRICIDAL is a broad spectrum antimicrobial compound synthesized from the seeds and pulp of grapefruit.

CITRICIDAL is an extremely potent and effective broad spectrum bactericide, fungicide, antiviral and antiparasitic compound. CITRICIDAL is environmentally safe with a low toxicity to man and animals.

Studies indicate that the antimicrobial activity of CITRICIDAL is in the cyto-plasmic membrane where the uptake of amino acids is prevented and disorganization of the cytoplasmic membrane and leakage of low molecular weight cellular contents.

I use NutriBiotic GSE. I take it every day....its really bitter though.....not my favorite thing to take. Its gotta be taken with water or juice...its too potent to use directly on skin or to take it full strength.

I also soak almonds in water with GSE and Vitamin C...then I toast them....after that I have no problems eating them. :)

I cant eat them at all w/out doing this first.

Thanks for the link, I LOVED the detox info, a lot of the things I have done before that I want to reintroduce so it's great to get a refresher. The whole site I just got lost in for about an hour or so, total scientificness and fascinationess :D:D

Julie, glad you dont have the same problem with PDF's that I do. :)

Yeah....his site has some really great info. He's always adding more stuff and its got all the scientifiness pertinent to my own situation. Theres still alot there that I havent yet read...mostly the pages that I cant view. :(

And great video demonstration on the Chi Machine (foot fish  ) I'll have to get used to calling it the Chi Machine and my "Chi Machine" the infratonic machine......

If you need me to copy anything off a PDF filfe let me know

Has anyone had an ionic footbath yet??

Yeah Carla, so much detoxing going on, we are detoxing fools

Oops, I missed commenting on this this morning.....teach me to be in a hurry.

How you doing Donna?

So, MSG looks like it may be a bigger problem for me than wheat.

I wouldn't want to challenge the MSG either.

Hope you have a fun vacation.....when do you go and where are you going?

Andrea,

I forgot to answer your question about what I'm being treated for tomorrow. I had to look it up to be sure.

Its not the same treatment as Talitha. I'm being for treated for the fungal toxins (as well as 2 viruses) next week.

Tomorrow will be for Borrelia, Babesia, Parvo Virus and 20 foods.

I have to review the 20 foods so that I dont make any mistakes with that.

Do you know what Chi Machine model you are going to purchase? I was looking at the Chi Vitalizer and it's on back order, they recommend the Evergain CN-308 in its place. Any thoughts on this??

I forgot to mention one of the things I found interesting about the better health Guy website, on the parasite page:

Donna,

Prescription antihistamines do it to me as well, although some of them worked for a time before starting to cause that.

I am down to one I can use, Allegra, if I don't use too much. Because of this, I have really gone into the allergy shot thing as I have to keep a lid on it. Also I use saline rinses for my nose when things get back. It really helps.

I had an appointment with Anna today...we did the last lyme panel. Reacted to about 10 or 11 vials. She said two types of tick came up...definitely deer tick but I can't remember if she even said what the other one was...if she did, it's completely gone from my head, lol.

She also went over some of her findings with me (from the report I posted about). As a result, I have TWO stool tests to do and a blood test. Joy. The stool tests are for Yeast Culture & Susceptibilities and Bacteriology Culture & Sensitivites and the blood test is to test my vitamin D levels. After my recent cookie binges, if I've got yeast and bacteria, they should be plentiful. :P

As far as sleep, I told her what I was taking for it and she said I could probably DOUBLE the 5-HTP...I'm taking 4 capsules a night, but I couldn't remember what strength they were...she said I could take like 800mg a night...these are only 50mg each, so I can take a lot more. She's never tested these (keep forgetting to take them), so I don't know what dosage is safe...but I'm going to try taking 8 tonight, lol. That's still only 400 mg.

I took a Zyrtek last night and that didn't even help (Zytrek is the only antihistamine that actually does make me a bit drowsy...the rest make me hyper).

I see her again in 3 weeks to go over the results of these tests, so I guess I have to do them soon.

Donna, I hope you do alright today with that extra amount of liquid qlutathione Did you try chamomile tea? Valerian root tea?

How you doing Donna?

Thanks Julie and Andrea...did alright today...didn't have any more negative effects than I do on any other day, lol. Don't have chamomile or valerian root tea handy, but did have some Pao d'Arco tea this morning. :P

Do you get delayed reactions ever? I can't always judge non-reaction as okay...I sometimes get reactions a few days later. :( Anyway, I wouldn't doubt that MSG is a bigger problem. I think many here might not have had such a problem with gluten if it wasn't for the other issues going on.

Has anyone had an ionic footbath yet??

Not yet, but I may try in the future...I've heard mixed things about them (not bad things, but that testing showed that the water turned colors even when no one had soaked their feet, so more a question of how effective they might be), but I figure at the very least I'd be getting a nice foot soak and that can't be bad, lol. My brightly colored toes need some tender soaking I think. :P

I'm just a mess.

Glad you saw Anna today. Sorry about the additional no fun tests. :(

Seems like lyme is causing many problems for you.

I got some enjoy life chips and cookies for the children for our little binge before our "diet" next week. Mitch asked why we had to do it and I told him it wasn't fair for them to not be able to eat things they like and will make it harder for them if we are eating it. They'll have to go through the same thing with us in a couple years......maybe. I think Mitch and I can handle it easier.

I've been at that point too, especially when first treated (and that was shortly after contracting lyme--or when I think I did)

My allergist also suggested mega doses of Vit C for allergy symptoms, he said you can do 2000 mg every couple of hours. Of course, you might end up with diarrhea, then just cut back.

Hope the bigger dose works for your insomnia.

Carla sounds like you have tried everything re the insomnia, glad the ambien is working. It is not supposed to cause dependence, buy my doc said he is suspicious because people really get to "like" it.

Lucky for me, the insomnia seems to come and go, so I don't need to use Ambien all the time, probably the longest is a 2-3 week period. Usually 5 mg is enough.

Hello all,

Well, Donna (Hi), it looks like I did have a slight reaction yesterday, so, yes, looks like a delayed reaction. In the past it's only taken about 6 hours. I got the heart "ka-thunk" yesterday afternoon (27 hours after my test). It wasn't as severe as it was in the past. It only happened once and I almost passed out in the same breath - and then about 1/2 hour of rapid pulse - although, I can't say that that wasn't due to panic that set in after it happened. Other than that, I kept catching myself biting my nails last night (that had stopped when I 86'd gluten). I can't even say with certainty that either were because of the crouton - though, neither symptom has happened in months. Looks like my sister will enjoy years of torturing me about my paranoia.

It's pretty frustrating (as anyone who's dealt with this can tell you) to try to figure it all out. I'm really considering going to a homeopath or LLMD (though I'm quite certain I don't have Lyme, I've listened to all of you talk about how they will be helpful in finding problems other than lyme) to try and figure all this out. I've been considering it for a while. Seems they've really been able to help you gals out with this (although, this sleeping problem that a few of you are having sounds really difficult. I hope you gals are able to get restful sleep soon). I'm not sure what keeps me from checking into it. I guess there's a little fear there. I'm not even sure what I'm afraid of.

Hi Andrea,

We're going to the Windward side of Oahu in October. My father was stationed on Oahu when I was a kid, so we kind of consider it home - we try to go every year. My husband has really enjoyed the last few trips over. We stay in this beautiful area where civilians can't go unless they're sponsored by military. It's pretty wonderful because it's quite secluded from tourists and the cabins are about 50 yards away from the shore. It's like a retreat. I can't wait - fresh air, beautiful sunrises, some time with my Mom, full kitchen - and a super inexpensive vacation (thank goodness - we're strapped - it's all my fault). We're really looking forward to it.

Have great days everybody

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Donna,

I am glad you enjoyed the kamakaze bug story! I do not know what it is with those things! I have decided it is timem to use an insulated mug with a lid! That will fix it! Unless those suckers can teleport, they are going to have to find a new way to end it all!

Things have been very quiet on here lately! I am glad some other people are popping in again. Charlie and Sherry are back! That is wonderful! I wish Susie and Bev would post more often. Hopefully, Lisa will update us on her situation soon.

Did you see why I wrote about the quartz chrystals yesterday? I wanted to make sure you saw that. I think it could help your situation. There is no way you will get better if you keep being drained from those energy suckers! They also are good for other things, like psychic abilities and communicating with the higher self.

Dear Julie,

I do not have a clue as to when I will get the chance to tape the cooking show. Dad is my camera man. I will have to ask my grandparents about borrowing their kitchen. Plus, I will have to lug all that cookware over to their house!

Talk about having your work cut out for you!

The portable chi machine would be a better bet I would think. You could take it anywhere! Also, people who only have an apartment would do well with one. Sometimes a lack of space is problematic. We have a house, but you would not know it with every square inch of the floor being covered by some kind of out-dated electronic equipment, or dog stuff.

I am not surprised that you were dehydrated from that low-carb diet. One of my aunts is on Atkins. I do not know how anyone could stick with it. I am a carb person. I really think The Zone is better. It is all about balance, and it makes sense.

Dear Mia,

I am glad the colonics seemed to help. They can be very beneficial for numerous things. I heard a number of celebrities do them. Weightloss is what many people do them for, but flushing out parasites is very important. The yeast might be released as well.

That C can be terribly uncomfortable. :( I normally do not stay constipated for more than a couple days at a time. When I do, it usually clears itself up. Plums always have helped me. I know some people who could not even get relief with that, though.

The IVs probably do help. Being dehydrated can cause you to be miserable and sick. Severe fatigue is one of the first symptoms of it. Most people are dehydrated, which makes them eat too much and gain weight. Much of the time, they are actually just thirsty, not hungry. In the meantime, you take it easy, and update us when you are up to it!

I had a very rough day the other day. I have no idea what exactly the trouble was. My body is nuts. I have someone who was kind enough to point me in the direction of an RN who specializes in Candida. I am anxious to give her a call or e-mail her. :)

Dear Carla,

I think we all are very worried about Lisa. No one has heard from her lately that I know of. The chelator she was supposed to take might be very hard on her. That is a huge concern. She is between a rock and a hard place with the mercury.

Thank you for the Susie update. I suppose I will need to look for her on the other thread! Hopefully, I will get time! The Finance is taking practically every waking moment of my energy and time. I am glad Susie has found someone, although she is mum on details. As long as she is happy! :)

It sounds like the sleeping trouble is back. That is awful! I am not one to do sleeping pills. However, I am like you where I am very sensitive to light and sound. Ear plugs might cause me trouble, due to the ear wax overload, though. I could make candles with all that gunk that comes out of my ears! I have to clean them out four times a day at times!

I hate yeast extract! They put that crap in everything! Thai Kitchen puts it in their stuff, and that means I am going to have to stop eating it. :( Stupid Candida! I must not be sensitive to MSG, because I eat the flavored potato chips fine. That was surprising, because a lot of people cannot eat them.

The yeast extract is irritating the crap out of me, though. I cannot believe all they sneak it into. It is hard enough to go gluten-free, but then having to get rid of yeast is a royal pain. There are so many foods that promote its growth or feed it. Watch out for lunchmeats like Carl Buddig. I found out it has it in there. Why do they have to put that stuff in some of that? It is not like it needs to rise.

I know you are going to miss Morgan while she as at school! Don't worry, Thanksgiving will be here before you know it!

The breaks here coincide with the Fall Festival. Are you going to come? Have you gone to it? I hate that I cannot eat anything, but oh well.

Dear tom,

I hope you can help Rachel. It is important to view those pages! If you miss one lousy thing, those articles may not make sense. That is something I normally do not have to deal with. I think it is due to having broadband service.

ROFLMAO! The nerve of Verizon! How could they do such a thing? What is wrong with these people! I say sue. There are more ridiculous lawsuits. I would like to sue these entertainment news shows for boring me and insulting my intelligence.

Hey, aren't you going to Monterey tomorrow? What all do you plan to do there? Have a grilling party with some sausage stealing seagulls, perhaps? That was so funny! Maybe they know those weed eating tweedle pigs Susie told us about?

Yay! You get to sign a lease! What is the place like? Details need to be given! Can you send a picture? That would be nice.

Dear Sherry,

Citricidal sounds like a good product. I will keep that one in mind. You never know when you might need something like that. You had amoebas, too? So did Claire! Mia had one, too. His name was Gus. I am not sure if he is still hanging around.

I am glad you seem to be doing so well! That is encouraging! Just do what you can when you can! We will be here! I hope your mercury levels are not bad. You said this winter you will return to Oregon?

Dear Kat,

Those strange symptoms sound scary! I have heart palpitations. My Thyroid is off. Getting glutened makes my heart pound sometimes. The MSG is notorious for that, however. That is a good possibility.

Thank you for not diving into my coffee! Gnats always do that, too! What they are thinking at the time, I do not know. Of course, it is accidental if they are flying over it while it is hot. Their wings will get stuck together if there is steam. Then, they just fall right in.

You are so lucky! Hawaii is heavenly from what I hear! My cousin and her family live in Honolulu. Her husband is in the military. That trip is going to be absolutely divine!

Dear Rachel,

Thank you for the MSG containing food list. That is good to have. My mother is sensitive to it. She has high blood pressure, so you can imagine the nasty stuff it does to her. My brother has a gastric reaction, and so does my grandfather.

Have you decided what type of chi machine you will get yet? The links you provided showed some nice models. I have no idea which one I would want. I would probably get the least expensive. If I was rich, I may spring for a deluxe model!

That is interesting about the almonds. I had no idea GSE and Vitamin C could kill fungus. Mold be gone! :P I wonder if you could make a solution of that and kill mold on other things with it. What do you think? Or does it only work on food?

Great scientificness on Citricidal! This supplement sure can do a lot! I love multi-purpose stuff! Those Clorox disinfecting wipes are terrific, for instance. Citricidal seems to be like Clorox for your body! How wonderful is that?

Dear Andrea,

The bugs do not just land in my coffee! It seems not to matter what I am drinking. If I put it in a mug, some depressed insect will find its way in there! Diet Rite has also had the same result. So has cranberry juice. I don't know if they just fly over the cup and yell "Goodbye cruel world!" before diving in, or what.

Dear Charlie,

That is unreal all that yeast extract is in. Glutamates are bad news for many reasons. My primary concern is it aggravating the Candida. I cannot chance anymore problems. It just sucks that it is hard enough finding stuff I can eat having to not eat gluten, and the yeast extract really is in a lot. Thank you for the info, by the way!

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

I've not tried the product, but it is definitely possible that it contains barley and wheat grass, and is gluten-free. I would imagine that they are regularly testing their product for gluten content, since they are making the claim that their product is gluten-free. I personally avoid these ingredients, but some celiacs do consume them without issues. PS - my daughter uses this product regularly, and she is very sensitive and has DH as well. She does not have issues with it.

Welcome back! Many celiac patients navigating perimenopause or menopause consider estrogen therapy, and there’s growing research highlighting its potential benefits. Estrogen has been shown to reduce certain health risks associated with menopause, such as cardiovascular disease, particularly in post-menopausal women. This is significant since studies suggest that women with celiac disease may already face an elevated risk of heart disease due to chronic inflammation or malabsorption issues prior to diagnosis. Estrogen therapy, whether through pills, patches, or other methods, can also help alleviate menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and bone loss, all of which can be exacerbated by nutrient deficiencies common in celiac patients before going gluten-free. Of course, the decision to use estrogen therapy is highly individual and depends on your health history, risk factors, and how well your body is responding to a gluten-free diet. If you're considering this route, it's a great idea to discuss it with your doctor. They can tailor a plan that aligns with your needs and monitor how the therapy affects your overall health. Hearing about others' experiences can also be helpful, so it's great you're reaching out to connect with others in the community!

https://nationalceliac.org/celiac-disease-questions/do-wheat-grass-and-barley-grass-contain-gluten/ I find this helpful. I will update you on what the company says but most likely will choose one of their products without the wheat and barley grass. Overall, I think the other powders should be safe and I will try them.

It’s great to hear that you’re feeling better overall since going gluten-free, but I can understand how these new menstrual symptoms are frustrating and confusing. Hormonal fluctuations and changes in your cycle after a celiac diagnosis are not uncommon. When the body starts healing from prolonged inflammation and malabsorption, it can affect hormones, particularly those involved in your menstrual cycle. Additionally, going gluten-free can improve overall health, which might shift your hormone balance and alter your cycles. Delayed or irregular periods, cramping, and other new symptoms may be part of your body’s adjustment process, especially if your antibodies are still trending downward. While it’s reassuring that your labs are normal and serious conditions like PCOS or thyroid issues have been ruled out, these symptoms might take time to stabilize. You could also explore whether stress, diet changes, or other factors might be contributing. If things don’t improve soon, you might want to revisit your OBGYN to discuss hormone-specific testing, such as estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol levels, to check for imbalances. In the meantime, tracking your symptoms and cycles closely could help you and your doctors identify patterns or triggers. Hang in there—healing can take time, but you’re on the right path!

I noticed on the label: https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/product/whole-foods-market-organic-wheatgrass-powder-california-73-ounce-b07g333x4y that it says "Contain Wheat Ingredients," which probably means that it can include the protein from the wheat kernels/seeds.
