For those of us dealing with mercury...

I read something encouraging on another thread (Hyperthyroid)....the poster said he/she is going through heavy metal detox and losing the food intolerances.

YAY!

That makes me real excited. :D

I can read about it a thousand times over but its always the personal experiences that are so encouraging to me. :D

Sigh........we still aren't there yet. I'm soooooo tired of these food intolerances. :(

I caught up quickly. Past time to get the little one (who's not so little anymore) to bed and let hubby on the computer.

Susie,

Hope you have a better day tomorrow. :)

Any thoughts from you?

I never tried oregano oil, but that is NOT what I think of as a candida die-off.

I'd read and been told it would be like a bad flu, and it was. For 3 days. 3rd day only 60% as bad. I couldn't imagine trying to work or even go to the store on any of the 3. Well, maybe a store late on day3. Then no other days felt like a die-off, and I slowly started feeling better. I'd actually have to check the food/symptom diary to guess how well, how quickly, but there were still other problems preventing full wellness.

<curse you evil soy!> :o

But I really only know mine. I thought the 3day bad flu was typical. And I figured I'd be on the diet for a month d'oh!

I have no clue what makes the mouth burning. Can it be the oil itself? But you've used it before. Did it only start burning after many drops?

I wonder if the new forum member who owns a healthfood store would know what to say about this. He knows a TON !! Acct name tvhealthfood (the TV is Tr-Valley) and I met him for coffee today lol!

He lives just a few miles away. We ended up talking near 2.5hrs and the time flew. :)

I posted his thread where he's offering his help and expertise didn't I? Ya I think so.

P.S. Where WAS everybody?? W/out my query at ~9pm PST, there was >13 hrs w/out a post I think!

And Jin calls ME absent!?

Maybe we all are naturally pacing ourselves...cause it isn't always easy to keep up with lots of posts every day.

Well, the jury is out still on the soda, epsom salts, salt bath. I just put in 1/2 cup of an equal mixture of each. First time really sweat but I couldn't stand it, so this time I made sure the windows were open and cool air blowing in, so wasn't quite as hot.

Didn't seem to hurt me. My allergies have been a lot worse today--sinus, etc. Could simply be the seasonal issue. Otherwise seem fine. No further problems from the bakery, but I'll watch it in the future. Tonight and tomorrow I take DMPS so the next few days are the test I guess.

Gonna try the lemon water and the spirulena if I can find any I think is safe to use.

Janet, on the oil I think lots of good points here, also those of us who have a lot of food intolerances are prone to developing them--just takes a bit of exposure.

Tung oil sounds quite disgusting! I do not think I would like to taste that stuff!

Nope, it's not edible. :)

That is great about the Ambien CR! It really might help. This could be the answer! As you said, you still need to get to the source of the trouble, though. Treating symptoms only helps temporarily.

Just as the GI symptoms have come with Lyme flares throughout my life, so has the insomnia. I think it will fix itself once I'm better.

Tom, the oregano oil is HOT! It burns on the way down, and being oil, it's hard to mix with the water ... thus, a chaser.

Well, I'm so excited!!! I actually slept until 3:00 this morning!!! I went to bed at 9:00 and woke up at 3:00...that's 6 hours of sleep! Just unheard of!!!! Usually by 3:00 I'm awake at least two or three times and one of those to use the restroom... Of course, didn't get back to sleep since I have to get up at 4:00, but 6 hours!!! I'll take it. :P

Also, the bad D has seemed to clear up. Not sure what caused it and why it lasted so long, but I'm back to my "normal" D, lol.

Carla & Donna - Have either of you tried Tryptophan for your sleep issues? I'm taking 1000 mg each night and seem to be getting more restful sleep. I thought I would mention it since you two are having such troubles sleeping.

Glad you are feeling good! I haven't tried tryptophan although I'm taking 5-HTP. Carla and I were trying to decided if they are the same or similar and I don't know if we ever came to a consensus, lol. I know my doctor said it's the same thing that's in turkey that makes people sleepy. :P Anyway, I'm taking 5-HTP, and 6-9 mg of Melatonin plus another herb my doctor recommended (not specifically for sleep, but helps the liver detox). I'm also taking calcium and magnesium in the evening. I take one 5-HTP cap about 7:00, I take another 2 at 8:00 and another 2 right before bed along with the 2 melatonin tablets.

Donna, the oregano oil dosage depend on the manufacturer. I bought Wild Oats brand. It initially looked more expensive, but when I read the dosage, it was only 4 drops vs. 30 of the other brand I was looking at. I take it twice per day before a meal.

Woohoo, glad you got the Ambien CR approved! I'm still going to ask about that when I see one of my doctors who can prescribe, lol.

I'll check Whole Foods for their brand of oregano oil. I also just saw some at Puritan Pride which looks okay too.

Has anyone taken the food intolerance test at Optimum Health Resource Labs? I think they used to be York Labs. I did the 96 food intolerance testing and sent it in early August and I haven't heard a word! I really regret ordering the test now. But, this was prior to finding the doctors that I'm working with now. The test wasn't cheap and I feel like it was such a waste of money. I've emailed them a couple of times with no response. I'm going to try calling them today to see what they have to say.

Yeah, like Rachel, I've heard nothing good about this lab, at least not for a long time. I think when I first started posting at this site there were a couple of people who had fairly decent experiences, but that was it. I've not been tested in this way...my testing was with BioSET and with skin scratch testing at my allergist's office.

I think I got glutened this week. With so many ups and downs as a matter of course, I never for sure know what causes what. But....I walked into a bakery shop with my husband so he could get some bread for himself. I started feeling strange pretty quickly and went back outside. That evening I was fatigued and the next couple days had cramping and diarrhea this morning with no change in my Vit C/mag. Hmm. I suppose there was flour in the atmosphere. Might be an indication of how sensitive I will be--I haven't dared challenge gluten.

I work with 4 other celiac/gluten intolerants, and one of them can't be around bready things at all. I'm sure she'd have a reaction if she walked into a bakery, but even just being around a lot bread will do it. We used to have "Bagel Fridays" here and she couldn't go down into the kitchen during the time the bagels were here. So, it's possible!

So now I'm wondering, what does this all mean. It's not as if I was short of carbs on the diet. SO is this a carb thing or a potato thing?

Are you an auntie yet?! Re the potato....maybe a potassium thing?

Yay indeed!!! I've been pretty sure it was something like this that was the cause of all my sensitivities and intolerances and you're right, it's great to hear first hand accounts.

Come to think of it, our friend tom has been a bit of an absentee lately! He is cheating on us with another thread! It is true! I know it is difficult to take, but the Silly Thread has stolen him away from us! :o Could it be, that is where the others have gone?

Yep, several post over there. I can't keep up with that and this too, lol.

And Jin calls ME absent!?

Wasn't Jin, lol.

And also could be a bit of detox...according to what my massage therapist said, the sinus congestion could be a bit of detox. I was EXTREMELY congested as she was working on me, but was oddly VERY clear after a couple of days.

Ya' know, I woke up very congested this morning. It's all in my chest and throat, some in my sinuses, but not as bad. Good point about the detox. I was wondering how I caught another cold when I just got over one! So, today I'm laying off the dairy ... but it's a SIGNIFICANT source of calories for me, so I don't know WHAT I'll be eating ... definately will have to make more fudge today if I can drag myself downstairs to do it. I'm at the low end of my weight ... so cutting out the 600+ calories per day from dairy isn't that great of a thing for me right now ... my clothes are getting loose and hubby is calling me "the incredible shrinking woman" again.

Honestly, I'll be glad when I can get back to how I used to eat a couple years ago -- lots of fruit and raw/lightly-steamed veggies ... just waiting for my GI symptoms to diminish ... and waiting to be able to CHEW again! Braces should come off in Feb.

Donna, YAY on your good night's sleep! I had to try other sleeping pills before the Ambien CR would be approved. I liked the regular Ambien, too ... I broke it in half, took half when I went to bed, then half when I woke up ... each half was good for about three hours. I did wake last night, but I barely remember it and went right back to sleep after going to the bathroom.

February will be here before you know it! I hope you can figure out something for calories. Are you just going of dairy short term until your congestion clears up?

So I'd really had enough of being on such a strict diet today and ate a jacket potato :o Well, within an hour my blood sugar went crazy, and I have cramps in my stomach, but (and this is either great news or quite scarey, depending how you look at it), I feel so much better emotionally. I'm like a different person.

Hmmm the stomach cramps aren't surprising to me, but the rest sure is. I have no idea.

Does "jacket potato" mean "magic potato"? Am I the only one who's unfamiliar w/ the jacket part? I've heard of one 'coated' lol w/ butter but that seems irrelevant.

Dear tom,

I know about the Celiac group, because HouseKat and I have been PMing each other! I was so glad to finally find someone here in town! Maybe will we get the chance to meet soon! Adele's will probably be the best place! She lives on this side of town, or at least works nearby.

Oh cool, I figured you'd seen that thread. But there was no mention of it here! I hope you CAN meet soon. In-person is fun. You can bring a squirt bottle in case HouseKat misbehaves. ;)

We have wondered where you were lately! You have not been on here as much. Normally, we see more posts than you have been writing recently. If you are spending some time on the Silly Thread, say hello to Bev and Susie Q for me!

I miss them! :(

. . . . . Come to think of it, our friend tom has been a bit of an absentee lately! <_< He is cheating on us with another thread! It is true! I know it is difficult to take, but the Silly Thread has stolen him away from us! :o Could it be, that is where the others have gone?

We were missing Bev other THERE yesterday too! Hope she's ok.

BTW Jin, I think the record reflects more time betw posts from *you* than me. :P

Yesterday, lol, on the sillythread, lol, Nikki informed us it was International Talk Like A Pirate Day!! And it's awful harrrrrrrrr-d to keep that up!

Yes, going off dairy before did nothing for me ... but I know it does cause mucus in the system, so I thought it was a good idea to lay off it for a few days.

That's an interesting article. It will probable be 2 years before I can get my other cavitations taken care of as I've got to get the amalgams out. Then I have to find money for detox/chelation so it may be longer than that. They are smaller than the one under the root canal which I just had taken care of.

The only questionable dental work I have is that I've had my wisdom teeth pulled. I think I remember a piece of one of the teeth show up on the x-rays that were done for my braces/TMJ work. It was part of a root.

I'm thinking that's not good ... but I also know that my Lyme was bad before I had those teeth pulled ... so I'm not sure it's a problem. Maybe I'll look into it later ... my healthcare is already costing a fortune! I can't do it all.

I read a portion of that article and looked at the pictures. :o is right! I still have 3-4 of these things to get rid of. If finances allow it.......things have been really slow this month and I'm hoping the trend doesn't get worse. :(

Hi Rachel, Hi Everyone!   right back at ya. :)

I seem to be suffering from computerphobia these days, I haven't been on much at all. :( I do miss you.

I've had a so so summer, improved for a while and then seemed to slip back, most recently much better. I actually had two days last week where I felt almost normal and hour long stretches without any pain.

I'm sorry to hear you got knocked down but glad to hear that you were able to bounce back quickly. :)

So glad so many "old timers" here ...... and wonderful to see new faces that seem to be regulars. :)

In response to the potatoes, they are a nightshade and nightshades are inflamatory. Tomatoes, eggplants and peppers are all nightshades, do any of these give you problems?

I've been really busy with the rinne bars, I created some new ones. I decided to go big and take on partners. I'm working with an agency now, they think there may be a million dollar market in them. My goal is to make it possible for you to pick them up in your local grocery store. That would be so fun. :)

:) Rinne

Ahhhh it's good to hear from you and that the bars are going big-time. (Whose word was taifun?)

LOL Even if I can't eat one yet, I'm buying one the 1st time I see 'em!!

You and your insightful wisdom have been missed. :)

Rachel-

this made me laugh I told my sister the other day if i get better i am gonna eat myself into a nice plump state!!!!!!!!!!

miamia Rookie

Hey all-

so its been a rough week but at least the 10th chelation is over and i have sent out my pee test. The place i go for colon therapy has been changing alot and i don't like the way its been changing the women i liked most who ia always went to left for maternity leave and i don't think she is coming back and the only other person i reallly like is the owner and she is going to stop seeing people so i didn;t know what to do My doctor and i agreed it was best for me to see one person becasue than they learn your body. He suggested a few people so i am going to see one of them today. I would really love it if this worked out- so fingers crossed!!!

Oh funny kind of gross story. So after my chealtion i was feeling pretty bad - my colon therapy session ahd gone reallly badly (hence the need to change) and i had just made dinner I really did not want to eat but i knew i had to so i did this whole series of stretches and breathing to help and I sit down and the door bell rings I decided to ignore it but it kept ringing so i finallly answer it and its the guy to pick up my pee early. I had not filled out anything or put the pee in the tube or anything and so i tried to rush but i felt really sick and i kept dropping things and then i shook the pee becasue you have to do that before you put it in the tube but the cap was not on right and then i spilled pee all over and the guy is out side the door and i have all the papers all over and pee on the floor and my dinner on the table getting cold. It was such a mess!!!! Ok I finally got the package together but it was really like such a comedy show (only not so funny at the time)

I have missed you :D It was good to catch up on you--how exciting about the Rinne Bars! It all sounds wonderful, and you know as soon as it's possible, I'm buying a case ;)

Rachel and Mia--You two made me smile. I just know there's gonna come a time that you both will be able to eat more freely. I think you're closing in on it :D

Oh no Mia! :o

I just read your comedy of errors but not funny pee story....we must have been posting at the same time.

You poor thing. Did you finally manage to get it sent?

Rinne, great to see you back! I look forward to trying one of your Rinne Bars! How exciting!

Mia, how funny! I get in the middle of those comedy routines myself ... I'm starting to see them as funny while they're happening even if they are annoying.

Rachel, I can't imagine how big you will get when you can eat everything!

I'm reaching the end of this herx... in the next few days I guess I'll see if the Levaquin is helping me to feel better like the Cipro did.

Mia,

Sorry about your funny but not so funny pee story.

Rachel,

I thought you had posted last month that Amy was coming down the beginning of October? Did she have to change it?

I understand your frustration about socializing while having celiac disease. I also have allergies to nuts, dairy, all forms of gluten including oats, strawberries and MSG. I get anxiety while grocery shopping and really take my time to read all labels. I always carry a magnifying glass with me wherever I go to read labels. Many products are labelled Gluten Free but contain Oats, and apparently this is becoming more common. I almost bought some gluten free flour but read that it contained oats. A certain percentage of Celiacs have this complication. I can’t help feeling offended and excluded when others act like I am being “high maintenance”. I am becoming better at being an advocate for myself.  I have had diverticulitis 3 times and each time hospitalized-once, the attending nurse didn’t know what celiac means-she had to research...  If others around me make comments I try to enlighten them, those who don’t get it are not my friends anymore. Be very careful about cross-contamination. I was sick recently for 10 days after a meal was contaminated while I was on holiday. If servers say they have gluten free buns or bread, ask if they use a toaster specifically reserved for gluten-free, or don’t chance it. On a positive note, I didn’t find out I had Celiac Disease until I was 60. Eating a gluten free diet means no more terrible headaches, hives, rashes, intestinal bloating and irregularity, Gastro Intestinal Reflux….when I follow a strict diet and mostly always eat at home, I feel great! I also weeded out “friends” who weren’t worth being around.
    • Kwinkle
Thank you, Trents- are there any safe alternatives?
    • Scott Adams
I agree with @trents, it's not typical for gluten exposure to cause symptoms as delayed as a week or two after ingestion. In most cases, reactions to gluten occur within hours to a few days, depending on individual sensitivity and how much gluten was consumed. The delayed symptoms you describe—stomach cramping in the mornings and flaky stool—might suggest that something else is contributing to your discomfort. Cross-contamination is a common challenge, especially when dining out, and it's great that you're doing your best to stay gluten-free. However, the inconsistency of your symptoms and the long delay between exposure and reaction could warrant further investigation. It's possible that another gastrointestinal condition, such as IBS, a food intolerance, or a reaction to something else in your diet, might be contributing to your symptoms. You might consider keeping a detailed food and symptom diary to identify potential patterns or triggers. Additionally, consulting your gastroenterologist could provide clarity. They may suggest testing to rule out other issues, such as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), microscopic colitis, or other sensitivities. If you suspect cross-contamination is a significant issue, you could also ask for follow-up bloodwork (e.g., tTG-IgA) to check if your antibodies are elevated, which might indicate ongoing gluten exposure.
