I leave you guys alone for a little while and I come back to find I have not only been voted Queen and Greeter of Rachelville, but somehow I am listed as the Governor as well, how did this happen?

I'm a little embarassed about the Queen thing, everyone has been so kind with their comments, but in real life I am so far from queen material, it's a little hysterical! As long as I don't have to be a stuffy queen, or a look down my nose at the common people queen, if I can be a queen who is able to wear jeans or capri pants, and tank tops and running shoes, flip flops, or go barefoot (no gas station bathrooms of course), and just be my laid back self and hang with the townsfolk, then I will accept the crown. I'm not sure if this is the kind of queen you want

:lol::lol::lol:

Careful now, if you leave us alone too long you may find you are Empress of Rachelville. :P

Has anyone ever noticed a correlation between meat from animals that eat grains? I was just wondering because when I went wheat free, I would only eat grass fed cow. Cows are not supposed to gorge on grains like the cow owners think. Their bodies are meant to eat grass, therefore producing a much healthier piece of meat that has much higher omega 3-6-9.

I didn't know if I was being anal or not!

Hi and welcome.

I notice a difference. I bought some organic beef, actually raised by a friend, and noticed a kind of heaviness or sluggishness in my body when I ate it, it didn't feel quite right. I called and asked him and although the cattle graze on grass they are finished on grain. For those of you who don't know, excuse my assuming that some don't, it means that the last stage before slaughter is grain feed to fatten them. I then bought some bison meat which I am assuming was entirely grass fed because I did not have the same reaction. I was wondering about this too because I have been eating mostly a vegetarian diet for some time but couldn't continue to with the Celiac. I can't handle dairy either. :(

Thanks for asking how I am Celia. I am struggling some, I've had more back pain which is the Ankylosing Spondylitis and it is wearing me down. I'm spending more time horizontal with an ice pack than I would like to be. Today was a fun day though, it was our organic food co-op day and there are always lots of moms and little ones that are so adorable.

Julie, right now, I don't care if I ever eat gluten again, it has caused me so much pain that my imaginary world is a place where I am safe from gluten not a place I can eat it but maybe down the road I will think differently. I don't miss gluten, I miss the feeling of being normal and in Rachelville I am normal right now. :)

Geez...celiac and lupus, wouldn't that be fun! <_<

Could be rosacea, though (hope for rosacea!)--my rheumatologist says that if your nose is pink, too, it's more likely to be rosacea, which I've got. I also get these tiny white pimply-looking things near my nose, and red pimply looking things under my chin that itch--he says that's part of the rosacea. And people used to comment on my lovely skin :( . (Not any more...) However--I swear Mederma works o the pimple things.

Sorry to be so many hours behind here--I still have about 7 more pages to read...

Enjoy your ice cream Rachel. Gosh Rachelvile is a magical place...you're eating ice cream! I still can't believe it.

Mango....it truelly is magical. I cant believe it myself. There is more shocking news...I'm drinking milk now too. :o Also...I'm eating corn tortillas and corn chips! :o I also had Mango sorbet (I thought of you when I bought it). It was good....but not nearly as good as the ice cream! I bought cream cheese and butter but havent gotten to those yet. Can you believe this....I feel really good!!! :D

I dunno whats gonna happen but I think I might be onto something! :o

Either that or the effects just havent hit me yet and all next week I'll be crying in bed cuz I cant eat ice cream anymore. But there are no tears in Rachelville and everything works out and we can all have ice cream and not get sick! Mango....you can still avoid ice cream but if I start seeing anti-milk flyers hanging on the restroom walls....I'll know where they came from!:lol:

Wait a moment--if Julie is Queen, then we don't NEED a King. Maybe a Crown Prince (don't all good fairy tales have a Prince?), but definitely not a King. No offense, guys, but look what happens to the world when men have political power. If women were in charge, we'd never have the mess you see in the Middle East!

So, as music teacher, I need to know what the National Anthem for Rachelville is going to be. Do we play "God Save The Queen?" Or do we vote for favorite songs? How about "I'm a Believer" by--the Monkees? :D

Julie, we can eat what we want in Rachelville....except gluten of course. Rachelville is a dedicated gluten free cult farm. We do not allow any gluten...and our cows do not eat grains. :D

Since we have all of this organically grown, Auxigro free produce and everything here is as pure as it gets...we can safely eat what we want and not get sick! There are no chemicals, no nasty additives and because its so pure here we will all heal very quickly. We have our very own gluten-free chefs and bakers... they know what our preferences are and we never have to worry about cc. In Rachelville we eat freely and without consequence.

We are all safe as long as the geese do their part to protect our farm from the Auxigro and other contaminants. ;)

OH....I saw a whole other thread about Rachelville today!! :o

NO WAY could I possibly keep up with 2 threads at once......my head is already spinning half the time just trying to catch up with this one!

Anyways in the other thread it said that the grocery stores are primarily gluten-free and the gluten foods are hard to find and go bad quickly!! LOL... Also it said that the clerks give the gluten eating folks weird looks when they ask where the gluteney foods are located. LMAO!!

That made me laugh! But really...Rachelville is a farm....a cult farm...but a farm nonetheless. We dont have grocery stores....do we??

Certainly we dont have gluteney foods anywhere...thats for sure. Anyone who visits Rachelville has to eat as we do. If we cant eat gluten....you cant either...thats the rule. :P

EDIT:

Ummm....dont ask me why I "quoted" myself in this post cuz I have no freakin clue. Maybe all the ice cream has frozen my brain.

It must be the brain freeze, yes, in Rachelville there isn't brain fog, but brain freeze rather, because one of our major food groups is a wide variety of ice creams and sorbets.

rinne-I am so glad you had a good day at the co-op. I hope you have a good restful evening. That is a hard condition to deal with and on top of celiac. You have my prayers my friend.

Rachel! Wow! what a difference!! I hope you can have dairy-gives me some hope. Were you dx casein intolerant by enterolab? (I apologize if you mentioned this)

Chelsea-I was thinking the same thing as Alison, sounds a lot like rosacea, also could be the gluten though--I had rashes and hot red cheeks a lot. The rashes itched like a %$#@! though--do your rashes itch?

Susan-there was probably a correlation between the wine drinking and the Robert thing. He probably caused the desire to drink more, don't ya think?

Also, I think I am being confused with someone else--I think I still have a lot of my misery, lol.:):P:o (forgot the emoticons, sorry)

Piccard--CONGRATULATIONS!! :):):):)

Julie-A great queen is a queen of the common people--like Princess Di :) You will be so fine!!

Vincent-I think you would be a great minister of space and general orneriness. :D:D:D:D

April---Welcome to our little world!!!

Andrea--You are so together and organized--you go girlfriend!!

Celia--OH, the joy of a baby!! I love baby toes!!! Lucky girl you!

Patti-Do you know where Poland springs is bottled? I am curious since we have many springs here and I am wondering which is better. Zack loves Dannon, but I am thinking maybe he would be better off with something else, since the kid still has a few problems off and on.

MiaMia-Any time I eat turkey I have problems. I wonder if it is because they pump them full of hormones or something to make the breasts so big and to get more of the light meat? I love it though. Maybe I can find an organic fresh turkey to try. Dh had a wild turkey flap out in front of his car on the way to work one day. I told him he should have hit it and brought the road kill home for dinner <_< I hope you feel better soon.

Also, if dh is with cissie's hubby in Ga, can I have ONE date with that cop? Pretty please!! Just a date :D Just dinner and some slow dancing to some J. Rivers' song :) Which song, Susan?!!

Absolutely Robbin, that's what I brought him along for Anyone can borrow him!:lol: But, I think JR might be banned from R-ville, Susan?

And I vote for I'm A Believer as well, love the song, but how fitting the "Monkees", we need monkeys on our cult farm for sure.

Did I admitt to that? :P I must be nuts. No wonder why I'm drawn to the gluten-free cult farm. I guess the flyers can come down for now, but if you have even one minor reaction to the dairy, they're going right back up! You won't react though. Here in Rachelville you can eat all the ice cream you want...but I'll stick to my unlimited amounts of mango sorbet :D:D

Nighty night Celia!

I'm signing off too, have a good evening everyone.

PICARD - Congratulations to you and your wife!!!

JULIE - Thank you for your kind words. For my part, I'm so glad I found you all!!! I feel so comfortable among you, as if I've found long-lost friends!!! :):):)

To answer your question about the state of our health in Rachelville: You can bet your tiara we are all well here! We can eat and drink anything and everything our hearts and tummies desire. We have fought the good fight, and we have won! If I may quote Alfred, Lord Tennyson,

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

CHELSEA - Did the phenergan help? Were you able to get some sleep?

ANDREA - Amazing! Don't know how you do it, but I'm in awe! :o:o:o

SUSAN - Oh yes, tell the girls there are oodles of squirrels. Hey, that rhymes! The squirrels are actually quite fond of dingo dogs, and they do SO enjoy playing "Catch Me if You Can!" Jolly good fun for all, you see! :D:D:D

DINGO DUTIES:

To guard The Miraculous, Protective, Auxigro-Detecting Geese.

To assist said geese in the performance of their duty to herd the grass-filled cows and to prevent their straying from Rachelville.

To assume the above-stated herding and stray-preventing duty of said geese when said geese are on Gluten and Auxigro seek-and-destroy mission(s). B)B)B)

CELIA - Give that baby some sugar for me! :):):)

Cissie

Thanks for sharing, Karen. Certainly a needed reminder what we already knew (and I've posted many times on this forum) but sometimes forget, namely, autoimmune disorders tend to cluster. Where one is found, you can look for others to show up eventually. The thing that is unusual in your son's case is the onset of several of them at such a young age. My sister in law, who is in her early 60's has Crohn's and struggles with constipation so I don't think that is unusual with Crohn's. If nothing else, it's the outcome of not eating much because of the pain. Now that you know what is going on with your son and the Crohn's, we hope he is beginning to improve.
    • Nathan.
Hi there. My son is turning 16 this month. He had an endoscopy and biopsy to confirm celiac. He went gluten-free and his pain never got any better. I think it got worse. Months went by. The pain started around 7th grade. He missed a lot of school in 8th grade, and a whole lot in 9th grade. He couldn't go to school in 10th grade. All along the gastroenterologist prescribed Hyoscyamine, didn't help at all. Cyproheptadine, no less pain. Peppermint oil, ginger, Miralax, Senna. Doc said he was constipated, but I couldn't get him to have Miralax daily. Eventually he went on Linzess and no senna or Miralax. Sorry this is long, there will be a point.  We gave his school not just a doctors not, but everything, and U of M makes a lot of notes. They still turned us in for Truancy.  I didn't get him enrolled in online school fast enough.  The school would not recommend an online school and i didn't know which one to choose.  Doc thought it was nerve pain and mental. He recommended the u of m my pain program.  Nathan did so good, 3 days a week supposed to be for 4 weeks.  Never missed, always on time.   After two weeks, they discharged him. Said it was not  benefitting him.  Pain went on. I had been asking if there were any other test they could do. Ultrasound, colonoscopy. Doc said we can do it, but I don't think we'll find anything.  Finally he had a colonoscopy and another endoscopy.  Guess what, they did find something. They found a ton of tiny ulcers everywhere, from the esophagus to his rectum. They think Crohn's. I understand they didn't check for that because he was more constipated, not much diarrhea. He is getting an MRI with contrast on Sunday. Also they want him to do a cal-protectin (give a poop sample). Then an appointment on the 16th to talk about treatment. Then the probation officer on the 17th. In the meantime he is taking Budesonide extended release.  $276.00 for 30 pills, and that's with insurance. Also he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, Graves disease a few months ago. If it is for sure Crohn's,  it will be three autoimmune diseases. If someone is gluten-free for a month or more, and the pain is no better, don't stop looking. I was beside myself. Did they think he was exaggerating, lying? I was considering taking him to a holistic doctor, who would probably recommend Peppermint oil and ginger.  He's such a good kid. Kind of an introvert. He was on the 9th grade soccer team. He would try to go to practice and kept having to stop, the pain was that bad. Every time he ate, it didn't matter what, gluten-free chicken tenders, mac and cheese, pizza, ice cream, all gluten-free, he would eat a normal amount but stop and say, I can't eat anymore, my stomach hurts.  If anyone reads all this, thank you. I had a gut feeling, no pun intended, that he had an additional problem. They found celiac and stopped looking. If you don't feel better, keep on your doctor to check further, keep looking.   Take care, Karen

      Most likely cross-contamination I believe.
    • cristiana
I think it takes different people different amounts of time, but in my own case I had pain,  bloating and loose stools for some time, exacerbated by a lactose intolerance, which eventually went.  I would say the really bad diarrhea got better quite quickly, but the bloating pain carried on for a few months, until I was told to give up lactose for a few weeks.  That helped enormously and once I realised milk and yoghurt was the cause, after a short break I went back to lactose very gradually and felt a lot better.  Now I can tolerate it well. From Coeliac UK "The enzyme lactase is found in the brush border of the small intestine. This is why people with coeliac disease can be deficient in lactase at diagnosis. Once established on a gluten free diet, the gut is able to heal and lactose digestion returns to normal. Lactose intolerance is therefore usually temporary." So if this helps your daughter, this doesn't mean you have to give up lactose forever, especially as dairy is such a good source of calcium for growing kids.   Bear in mind you should be able to reintroduce it. As for fatigue, this can be due to vitamin and mineral deficiencies, such as iron, vitamin D and B12.  Were these levels tested?  If not, I would suggest you get them done.  If your daughter is deficient in these, it is vital you address the deficiencies, and get the tests redone in a few months, particularly the iron, because too much can be dangerous.

Hello,   The medication in these inhalers can cause a thiamine deficiency if used by someone already low in thiamine.  We don't absorb sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals due to the inflammation and damage done to our villi in Celiac Disease.  Even a long term strict gluten free diet may not provide sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals.  There are eight B vitamins that all work together.  Thiamine deficiency often shows up first because our bodies use so much of it and it can't be stored very long. Thiamine deficiency symptoms can appear in as little as three days.  Without thiamine, the other B vitamins may not be able to function properly.   Thiamine is needed to clear lactic acid accumulation caused by the inhalers: Shoshin beriberi provoked by the inhalation of salbutamol https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12951730/    Significant Lactic Acidosis from Albuterol https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5965110/ Albuterol-Induced Type B Lactic Acidosis: Not an Uncommon Finding https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7263006/ Lessons of the month 1: Salbutamol induced lactic acidosis: clinically recognised but often forgotten https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6964186/ An Overview of Type B Lactic Acidosis Due to Thiamine (B1) Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10731935/   Thiamine has antifungal and antibacterial properties.  Thiamine helps keep Candida in check.  Thiamine helps keep SIBO in check.  Thiamine helps with black mold, Aspergillis infection.  Riboflavin helps fight Candida infection in the mouth. Blood tests are not accurate measurements of vitamin levels, but do talk to your doctor and nutritionist about supplementing with the eight B vitamins, Vitamin C, the four fat soluble vitamins and minerals like magnesium.  Your physician can give you a shot of B12 before anesthesia administration.   By the way, Celiac Disease genes have been traced back to having originated in Neanderthals.  I'm not a singing teacher on the net.  I earned a degree in Microbiology after studying nutrition because I wanted to know what vitamins are doing inside the body.  I've experienced nutritional deficiencies myself. Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!
