Okay, I see some of you online ... for a kid's school project, what kind of pie do you like?

Carla, I love the new av! If you're still doing the pie thing- pumpkin is my favorite, with apple coming in a close second.

CarlaB Enthusiast

I don't think my friend is online anymore to pass on the pie survey. Thanks though.

I'm surprised how many people have pumpkin as their favorite! I thought everyone ate pumpkin because it was a tradition. :) I like pecan pie the best.

Rats!! I just lost my post responding to you all....

A quicky here as I am packing for my next leg of the journey.

I started studying Mandarin in '78, 2 years then, and another two years in 2002-4. In between and since, lots of day to day usage. I support anybody doing language learning, it is so enriching and helps us have a broader world view and tolerance for differences.

Ami, glad it went okay.

Nyxie, sorry you are going through this.

Carla, everything I have read has indicated the dupuytrens isn't reversible. Donna, you've given me an idea, maybe I can make my own heat packs that will allow me to be mobile.

Donna, I have had the same thoughts about the colon cleansing, but the natural approach I recently took has convinced me that I have many unwelcome visitors in my gut. So I think it is still good to do the humaworm and see what happens. I'll be home in the USA when I finish that, and will talk to my LLMD about the colonix possibility. Today I passed something that I think is clearly tissue, not a large piece but similar to what is posted on that site.

Kassandra, I am glad there is progress and can't wait until you finally see the LLMD and finally get the iron you need.

Well, I am apt to be out of touch the next 5 days....I'll really have to do some catching up then!

How come you had to stop the gentle detox?

My ND who devised the detox plan says its best to detox during spring, summer and fall. She says our bodies "hold onto" things during the winter months and it may not be as effective.

PLUS = its a lot of work making sure they got all the supplements, whey protein powder, drops, ect. I had to hide the supps in smoothies and shakes and rice dream ice cream.

So, I will start again in spring.

Although - i feel like she might need to detox NOW in case the metals are causing an increase in estrogen somehow......

Carla,

YOU'RE SO CUTE!!! I should put up a pic of me when I was in 1st grade...it's really cute!!! People in the other threads will think it's my daughter!

I actually love pumpkin pie too!!!

I am hoping my mom will get really of all these doctors and just want the one LLMD to coordinate everything...but things aren't looking good in that dept. We keep fighting over all of this!

Sherry,

Cool about the languages. The online school I am enrolled in now offers Mandarin, that's part of why I chose it. I'm looking forward to taking that. Good luck on your trip!

Everyone,

Can't remember why I came online...whatever.

Kassandra

Kassandra, that's so cool! Since 1/4 of the world speak Mandarin, and China is certainly increasing in world influence and trade, it is the language of the future. When I get to the states you can call me and practice!!

Kassandra,

I hate to hear that you and your mom are fighting. :( I know she must be worried sick about you. What does she think about the fact that you've gotten worse on the abx that were supposed to help you?

How is your back doing with all the bed-time? I know that when I am sick and spend a lot of time in bed, it KILLS my back.

(((Hugs!)))

OMG Sherry, I would LOVE that!!! B):D:P

Now I'm ungry for pie, Carla look what you started  I like pecan too, oh and peach cobbler, cherry...the list could go on and on. :D My grandma was actually a pie baker.

Sherry, that's a good idea about the hot packs. See you when you return.

April, interesting info about our bodies hanging on to everything through the winter. Makes sense I guess, like we are little squirrels storing toxins

Kass, I know this has all been trying and difficult, but it's great you have someone right there with you looking out for your best interest. IMHO you guys will get it all sorted out, especially when you get on board with a competant health care professional/Dr.

Sarah,

My back is a disaster. It's really awful...on my holiday wish list is one of those things you can prop yourself up with in bed, so it's easier to be in bed. It's also really hard because I can't really take anything for pain. I wanted to get back into PT, but my mom doesn't think it's a good idea. I really wish I was grown so I could make these decisions for myself! It is really difficult...now my mom won't talk to me! I think she hates me now...LOL!!! All I did was ask to go grocery shopping because last time she went without me...on SUNDAY. That's a long time ago,

Sorry, rant!

And she doesn't have anything to say about the abx making me worse. I am more nauseous than I have been in a long time!!!

Sherry,

You could make a heat pack like the one I made...and you'd have access to a lot of rice I'm sure! You could make lots of them!!! You could ship ME rice!!! :P

Julie,

Wait, who is looking out for me? I don't think you meant my mom...because she's not!!! Mmmm, pie does sound good. I shall find a raw pie recipe!

Everyone,

I am having a problem with something...REMEMBERING to take my abx and other stuff. Does anyone have any ideas? I am totally forgetting...well, not totally, just having a really hard time. And, now that they are making me really nauseous, I think I have a block towards them. LOL!!

I am really thinking of making a spreadsheet because this is so hard! I can't even imagine once I see the LLMD!!!

Kassandra

Ridgewalker Contributor

Kassandra,

Whenever my kiddoes are on meds, I always make a spread sheet to keep track of everything! Makes it nice and easy.

Ugh, I'm so sorry about your back! You probably already know this, but just in case: When you laying on your back, keep pillows under your knees. When you're laying on your side, keep a pillow between your knees. A rolled-up towel under the small of your back can provide a little extra support.

When my back gets really bad, I usually end up sleeping on a couple comforters on the floor, legs propped up with pillows. The bed is intolerable when it's really bad.

AndreaB Contributor
And she doesn't have anything to say about the abx making me worse. I am more nauseous than I have been in a long time!!!

Wait, who is looking out for me? I don't think you meant my mom...because she's not!!!

I think your mom is trying to look out for you. She just needs some help with accepting the LLMD and the fact that you more than likely have lyme and it's behind your health problems.

confusedks Enthusiast

Sarah,

I will make sure to remember that! I always forget. I also think I really need to push the PT...but I think I will talk to the LLMD and see if he can write a script for it...because it must be medically necessary for insurance to cover it.

I think I will make a spread sheet, otherwise I'll never remember.

Andrea,

I am sure she is just looking out for me, but it is really frustrating. I just hope that she does go through with the LLMD appt. That I think (and hope) will be the answer for us.

Carla,

How do YOU remember...you take so many things.

Everyone,

I know you don't know all of my medical issues, but based on what you do know on the forms for the LLMD they ask "other info that would be pertinent to your symptoms or diagnosis" what would I put there? So far I put the epidurals set off the worst of the symptoms, that I had my period for 90 days and it still is irregular, the iron IV's...can you think of anything that may be important? I have no brain. I also am putting together a timeline of my major issues since birth (they requested it).

Rachel,

How did you quit smoking? Did you use any particular method? I've been a smoker for about 12 years, and I really want to quit come the new year. I've tried many times before- it's hard!!! The closest I came was during my pregnancies, when I was down to 1 or 2 cigarettes a day. But the past month or two, I've been having mild asthma attacks, which I haven't had since I was a kid... Having them almost every day now. :(

Sarah,

I quite smoking over 15 years ago by being hypnotized. I was so addicted. I smoked 2 packs a day. This was back when you could smoke in your office. I would sit in my office and just smoke away all day long. I went once to a hypnosis seminar. It was held in a hotel ballroom type thing. That only worked for about 3 months. Then I went again when I was really serious. I was tired of spending the money, I could tell my clothes smelled bad when I would visit my mom's non-smoking, clean house and we were about to move office buildings and it was going to be necessary for me to go down 12 floors to smoke. The second time I went to a hypnosis clinic. It was still in a group setting. I took 2 friends with me. They gave me a tape (yep before compac discs) to listen to at night as reinforcement. I think I only did that a week or so. I never smoked another cigarette after I left that session. There were times at first that I wanted one, but never enough to actually light up.

Well, some semi good news...I have an appt. with the LLMD on Friday Dec. 14th at 10.15 am!!! I am hoping that we will be able to keep the appt...I told my mom I was going to call and just make an appt. because this is getting ridiculous.

Let's just hope that all these "if's" work in the way we want. Also, the hematologist said that he wants to start with 5 IV's and see what my numbers do. If I am okay after 5, we will stop...so then we would have more room for error to still be able to make the LLMD appt. (does that make sense?)

Kassandra

Kassandra,

I'm hoping your LLMD appointment works out for you.

Pediatric Endocrinologist appt 12-14.

April

Good luck at the pediatric endocrinologist. My oldest son is being seen by one, but for short stature. She did a ton of testing on him. Right now we're in the wait mode. She will see him again in April since when we went last month he was in early puberty, he's 11 will be 12 in March. She's hoping the puberty hormones will cause a growth spurt. Otherwise, he'll be on human growth hormones until he stops growing. In the testing she did it came out that he is low on vitamin D. So we've been pushing milk more and making sure he gets out in the sun as much as possible. Completely different situation than you're dealing with, but I hope the testing the endocrinologist does will help.

New avatar ... got another old picture ... me next to my sandbox.

Love it! I should put up one of my "chubby" baby pictures, lol. Ya'all have seen my skinny baby pictures.

Donna, I have had the same thoughts about the colon cleansing, but the natural approach I recently took has convinced me that I have many unwelcome visitors in my gut. Today I passed something that I think is clearly tissue, not a large piece but similar to what is posted on that site.

Yeah, see, I passed that tissue thing on the first day, but haven't seen any more. I see little white things once in a while that clearly can't be food since I don't eat anything like that, but not seeing much else. Yeah, I figure I can do the colon cleanse in a few months if I don't think this has done much. I will say though that I had another sense of smell improvement. I actually smelled dinner cooking yesterday. THAT's a first, lol.

I think it might be Donna's favorite too. Next is cheesecake but I'm not sure if thats considered pie??

You got it, lol! LOVE pumpkin. I HAVE had pumpking cheesecake and yes, it's YUMMY! Also like chocolate silk pie.

I am having a problem with something...REMEMBERING to take my abx and other stuff. Does anyone have any ideas? I am totally forgetting...well, not totally, just having a really hard time. And, now that they are making me really nauseous, I think I have a block towards them. LOL!!

I keep a spreadsheet, but that's only for when I go to a doctor....I can never remember everything I take so I take the spreadsheet and hand it to them. My LLMD LOVES this, lol.

What I do mostly is line up the stuff I have to take where I'm most likely to remember. For instance...I have two things that I have to take first thing when I wake up. Those are right by my bed.

I take a bunch of other stuff about a half hour later...those are lined up by my kitchen sink...when I take them I turn the bottle upside down. Some of those I take twice a day, so I take the second set in a little baggie and put it next to me at work.

I have more stuff that I take 1 hour before bed and at bedtime, those are lined up by my couch. I have some things that need to be refrigerated, those get taken twice a day and generally I remember them...maybe because they are right on the top shelf of the door.

The stuff like cumanda and banderol, that I rotate every two weeks. I have a very simple little chart that I print so I know when to rotate. Could be done on a calendar too.

I know you don't know all of my medical issues, but based on what you do know on the forms for the LLMD they ask "other info that would be pertinent to your symptoms or diagnosis" what would I put there? I have no brain. I also am putting together a timeline of my major issues since birth (they requested it).

I put EVERYTHING down whether I thought it was related or not. I just figured I'd let the LLMD sort through it. I made a huge list of all my issues, then highlighted the ones that were the most serious or the most annoying.

I was going to show him the Dr. Nutura site to REALLY gross him out, but I refrained :P

 Yeah, that site would surely get him. :P

Dear Everyone,

I will be posting my column later today. I must organize my thoughts first! Meanwhile, I will tell you how the appointment with the dentist went on Wednesday.

Overall, it went well. He got me in and out, which was nice.

I explained to him I have an appointment to get the molar extracted on December 13th, but felt it may be getting absessed. He asked if I had been experiencing pain in my jaw, and such. Since I had, he took a look at the molar. After taking an x-ray, it was discovered the tooth indeed is beginning to absess. Now I am on Amoxy.

I began the Amoxy yesterday morning, and currently feel very tired and had this odd pain in my neck. It was not excruciating or anything like that, but strange. I also am a bit constipated. The yeast may be to blame there, since the antibiotic probably aggravates this situation a lot. I also am having a difficult time with the Fibromyalgia being worse, but am not sure if that constitutes a herx or not.

Sincerely,

Jin

I think your mom will come around once she is talking to a doctor who really understands your health situation. I'm sure she just doesn't understand right now that he will be able to tie it all together.

Now I'm ungry for pie, Carla look what you started  I like pecan too, oh and peach cobbler, cherry...

Yeah, me, too. My friend's kid started this .... I ended up wondering why I tried to help her! I love peach cobbler! I also love blueberry pie ... but only my mom's. :)

Julie,

Wait, who is looking out for me? I don't think you meant my mom...because she's not!!!

She is, trust me, she's just confused. :) You're in that awkward stage where you are not quite an adult .... that stage is really difficult for both the parent and the child. Trust me, I've seen it from both sides. :D

My son and I both say openly that we don't know which one is more excited for him to move out, me or him ... we're both counting the days! It doesn't mean we don't love each other, it's just he is at the point where he needs to be out .... remember history ... in other times, children would even be married before 18!

Carla,

How do YOU remember...you take so many things.

Kassandra

I take the stuff that gets taken before a meal while I'm preparing a meal.

I keep the stuff I take when I wake up or when I go to bed on my night-stand.

I eat four times daily and don't forget that the purpose of eating is to take my pills. ;)

When I was taking a pill at an odd time of the day, I set the alarm on my phone to go off daily and remind me.

I am not one to remember to look at a spread sheet .... if I don't remember the pills, I won't remember the spread sheet either. Though at one point I had a sheet that said what to take when so when I was taking them I would be sure to not miss one.

Now I've been taking them for so long I don't need the sheet anymore.

My Humaworm has shipped B) I received my Chlorella the other day so I'll be ready to get started once my shipment arrives  My husband is really grossed out by the whole idea. I was going to show him the Dr. Nutura site to REALLY gross him out, but I refrained :P
Good idea ... my hubby hates hearing about this stuff, and he's taking Humaworm!

The ONLY thing I SAW was the tapeworm .... so I'm not expecting hubby to actually see anything.

Nyxie63 Apprentice

Thanks for letting me vent. I seriously needed it.

I'm little Nyxie crankypants this morning. Stupid dr still hasn't called back. I made an appt with an Endo who has been highly recommended by other online folks. We'll see. Hopefully, he'll be able to refer me to a surgeon for another opinion. *sigh* Don't see the Endo until the end of Jan. Good thing there's no rush with thryoid cancer. <_<

Now I want pie! My absolutely fave breffas of all time is apple pie. :P Also partial to cherry and peach.

I've NEVER been a toothpick! All through my childhood and up until a few years ago, I was always about 10 pounds overweight. Just enough to be somewhat chubby. And then, I started putting on weight like crazy. Gained 40+ pounds in 5 years. Eek! Have finally started to lose some of that weight since changing my diet earlier this year. Have gone from 185 down to 166. Guess the lack of junk food is really helping. :)

Jin, can you take probiotics? That might help with the C while taking the abx.

Andrea, thank you for posting the article. Good info there!

Ami, had been thinking about the hypnosis for quitting smoking. Glad to hear it worked for someone before shelling out the $$$.

Rachel, so far, I'm trusting my instincts. I really hate the idea of losing a body part just to find out its benign after all. Since there's no need to rush when it comes to thyroid cancer, there's plenty of time to get another opinion (or three) before finally deciding whether or not to go under the knife.

CarlaB Enthusiast

All the talk of pies and being a toothpick reminded me that I hadn't told you ... I've gained about 4 pounds since getting rid of that tapeworm! And I'm eating less!

Okay, that's all the weight I want! I fit in my clothes again ... I don't want to have to go buy new ones. ;)

I've not heard of any issues with Primal Kitchen, but it certainly would be worth not using the brand for a while to see if this helps. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful:

If you are super sensitive you may want to look for only Certified Gluten-Free Products, as @trents mentioned.

I'm not sure about low calorie, as puddings are typically a dessert, but we do have this category: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/gluten-free-recipes/gluten-free-dessert-recipes-pastries-cakes-cookies-etc/gluten-free-pudding-recipes/ This one might work if you cut back on the sugar:

We are off next week on our 9th RCCL cruise since our diagnoses.  I send an email to special_needs@rccl.com before every cruise letting them know that I am both dairy and gluten free and my husband is gluten free.   Unfortunately, with the new menus they introduced in 2023, they removed the gluten-free designation from each item on the menu.  Instead of having a dedicated person take gluten-free orders, it now falls to your regular wait staff.  Some have been great and some not so good.  We had a great cruise in May and hit it off with our head waiter.  She went the extra mile and ordered gluten free desserts that were not on the menu.  My problem arises from other food allergies.  I am allergic to dairy, beef, and several types of fish.  On those days my husband is a happy camper with a steak or salmon, veggies and a baked potato.  I end up not getting enough protein, so I bring protein bars.  I also bring snacks for the room. As long as the food is commercially prepared and unopened, you can bring it. Often the only dessert choices that are gluten free contain dairy, so I am out of luck.  But, if you are just gluten free, they have plenty of choices.  See the head chef in the Windjammer buffet and he will give you a tour of the gluten-free choices.  They usually have 2 gluten free desserts out at lunch and they are labeled gluten free. We have found that it works best to have assigned dining rather than anytime.  That way the waiters learn from the get go what our needs are, and we don't have to explain ourselves every night.  We also get a private table for 2.  I frankly got sick and tired of tablemates telling me a little bit of gluten would not hurt me.

Hi Trents-Thanks for reading and sharing insight.  We need all the help we can get and it's super appreciated.  She is currently dairy, soy and oat free and those have mostly been completely excluded from her diet since the diagnosis (we tried going back on dairy and oats at different times for a bit, didn't see a significant difference but have now cut out again just to be extra safe since her issues are so persistent.  We did cut eggs out for about 3 months and didn't notice significant difference there, either.  The only one we haven't specifically cut out completely for any portion of time is corn, however, we've kept it minimal in all of our diets for a long time.  She definitely goes 3-4 weeks without any corn products at times and still has issues, but I'm guessing that's not long enough to confirm that it isn't causing issues.   We could definitely try to go longer just to double check.  Thanks again!
