Morning everyone...again looks like everything was well covered, so just saying "HEY"!

Man, LN can get really intense!!! Sheesh, people get really upset over things! I wonder if Lyme does that to the brain? LOL! Carla, do you think it's real that Dr. B is posting? Or do you think it's a set-up?

Yeah, that's one reason why I don't post much over there. I don't feel like I can discuss certain things over there. That's why I LOVE this place so much. No one judges you regarding what you believe as far as treatments go.

Hey you guys,

I just wanted to throw in on the vaccine discussion -- we got pretty deep into this with our son (who is almost four now).

There's a ton of information and mis-information out there and it's tough wading through it.

With any kid who seems immune-compromised, I'd want to see a DAN! doctor for advice about this.

There are so many variables to consider when making a risk assessment about any individual vaccine -- including recent local outbreaks (things like pertussis keep coming around), how soon the child might be in day care or a pre-school setting, whether the family travels abroad, how vulnerable that individual kid seems and their past reactions to vaccines, how likely an individual kid might have complicating factors if they do get a childhood illness.

We opted not to do any vaccines when he was born, not to do MMR or polio or chicken pox at all. We only did two DTaPs because of his strong reaction to the second one (the reactions tend to get worse with each booster). We did do HIB and pneumococcal when he was under 1 year old because those were both infections that do kill babies...unlike say polio of which there's been no live case in the US for eons.

None of the vaccines he got had thimerosol -- the doctors know which ones have it. This is information you now can easily get.

We talked through the flu vaccine option with several doctors when our son was an infant and young toddler and we decided not to do it because he wasn't in child care and we didn't have a lot of other risk factors (these include whether there's smoking in the household, ashthma, and a bunch of other stuff -- which is why specific household and family medical history is key).

Anyway, there's so much dogma out there on both sides of the fence on this issue and the public policy doesn't favor a smart individual approach. I think vaccines are just not a one-size-fits-all situation and that immune compromised families needs to wade their own way through it with as much help as they can get from books and sympathetic doctors and other parents to decide step by step on each individual vaccine.

It's the real one ... but not the Dr. B of ILADS .... it's the real Dr. B of terrain vs. germ theory. It's really an interesting theory ... you should look at Scott's thread about it from a couple weeks ago. There is a video about 51 minutes long with this Dr. I found it fascinating ... but like I mentioned in my post, I feel the truth is somewhere in the middle. I think that the bugs help create the terrain once they do take hold, so you have to be more active in getting rid of them. But I also think it's necessary to change the terrain so they can't come back.

Ahhh!!! I just woke up and had the WORST dream EVER!!!! I am really freaked out, it was SSO real! I was going to die in a fire at a house up in the Hollywood hills.....omg, it was so scary! :( :( Ugh, stupid Lyme vivid dreams, I HATE these!!! I am so glad I'm awake now!

Donna, LN is a little crazy, and people get pretty mean about things. I don't post a lot on there, and I do feel more comfortable here. ;)

Carla, I kinda looked at his theory, it was interesting. I agree though that it's a little too black and white, and I think Lyme is a BIG piece of gray.

Okay, I'm going to try another B-12 shot on Friday.:lol: I just talked to the nurse and we'll try NOT putting a bandaid on it, lol. Then if that goes well (no insane itching), I'll go back one more time for them to teach me to do it myself.

I'm not caught up on reading but just wanted to also say "Hey!" :)

I hope everyone is having a good start to the New Year!

April, I found plain apple pectin powder. I was curious as to how much you take of it? My bottle says 1/4 tsp as a dosage. Also it's hard to mix, I've only taken it once but it just globbed up when I added it to the liquid, any tips for this or does this happen for you too?

This is for anyone who knows, but I am thinking it would be valuable for me to get the test for the celiac gene. Is this through Enterolab? And what is the specific test called? Any info would be appreciated.

Since I came to my revelation over Christmas, er relevation  , about me and grains I am off to a good start just eating proteins and lots of veggies, some starchy veggies too, and staying away from the grains. I'm going to do this for a while and see what the result is.

Oh yes, from a long way back, Andrea I do eat eggs everyday and have for a while. If I don't have protein in the morning it is a disaster for me!

I recently went off eggs for a couple months, I tried to sub different things, like seeds, nuts, etc, and it just didn't work, I ended up not eating breakfast and then that was even more of a disaster! So I have added them back in.

Sorry Kass about your terrible dreams, that is scary when they seem so real.

Donna,

You shouldn't really need a bandaid, I didn't put one on the first time...but now I do because my blood is really thin from the heparin, so the site bleeds a little bit. They aren't that bad to do on yourself. I do stare at the needle for about 45 seconds before I can do them though...lol!

Donna hope this works out well for you :) Are you noticing any difference with the addition of the B12 in your protocol?

I meant to mention before about the band aid reaction, this happens to me too! Even the hypo-allergenic tape I react too, it's crazy.

I don't so much itch though, I just get really red raised patches around where it has been applied.

I think that'd be a good idea. You never know, if you don't have the celiac genes you may find you can eat gluten once you've regained your health.

I used Pectasol which is a modified citrus pectin for over a year...just stopped last week. I find that it's best to put the powder in the glass first then add just a LITTLE bit of liquid and make like a slurrey(sp?) or rue(sp?), then add more liquid. I'd put in my scoop of pectasol, then my Vit C crystals, then take all my capsules and empty them in, then add my liquid supplements, then a little water just to get the slurry, then I'd add as much liquid as I wanted. It's still a little grainy, but it mixes much better without the huge clumps...I just had to keep stirring as I drink...stir, take a sip, stir, take a sip,

Yeah, I don't think there was much blood on the last one...it was barely pink I think. I'll probably stare at it too. I used to give my dog insulin shots, so I'm used to that part, but then it wasn't on ME, lol.

Donna hope this works out well for you :) Are you noticing any difference with the addition of the B12 in your protocol?

Well, I've been on B12 sublingual tablets for almost a year now, so the shots are just going to bypass the gut. I take two sublingual tablets every day, so it will be great to cut out two more swallowed things, lol.

Yeah, when I was getting my allergy shots, when I'd react to them, my skin would get red and raised, but this didn't have any visible signs...just intense itching.

AndreaB Contributor

Donna,

Hope not having the bandaid solves the problem. :)

Donna, Yes...it's quite different giving them to yourself! LOL! I stare at the needle and then I stare at my butt and I kinda panic, but then I do it and it's fine!

I actually really am starting to like them now...yesterday I was able to get A LOT done because of it. I now make my Tuesdays and Saturdays busier because I can plan on having energy...lol.

It does clump up for me too. I mix in my fish oil magnesium OR if I am doing activated charcoal that night I don't mix anything else with it or that would be pointless

Mine comes with a scooper and I would say i take about a tablespoon. Wonder if I should take more? I get stopped up so easily...

I drink and stir and drink and stir. some does go down in globs but i don't know how else to do it unless I get out the blender - which just make more mess!

Let me know if you come up any ideas! I think next time I am going to try to find some without the psyllium. I think that stops me up a little.

What is up with this Humaworm? Last night I hardly slept a wink! I took it for about 2 weeks and quit due to my "big head syndrome" and not sleeping. I quit for about a week and a half. Those went away so I thought i should start again. So day 2 on it and I don't sleep a wink.

Not sure what to do at this point....

Thanks for the replies on the vaccs! My friends daughter has an appt. next week...she called this morning to find out which shots she needed. Turns out she's all up to date. The next one shes due for is the Hep. A. shot...due in Feb.

I gotta look that one up...anyone know off hand if it contains thimerosal??

My friend asked about the MMR and her daughter had it last March. Does this one get repeated?

So far her little one seems fine...just not sure about the toe walking and the frquent colds.

I'm not sure if the Dr. wants her to have the flu shot because of her getting sick so much...or if its because of her asthma. Does the flu dhot help asthma??

My concern is that mercury actually causes asthma. It was brought up in a few of the books I've read. Since she had an asthma attack right after her birth...it makes me wonder. How soon after the birth are the kids given the Hep. B shot?? That one does have mercury...so I'm wondering if she was reacting to the shot...or if she was just born with asthma for another reason.

She did get sick after her last flu shot so her mom doesnt want to do another one. Is it important for a kid with asthma to have the shot?? I dont want to tell her the wrong thing but my gut says to stay away from the flu shot.

Oh....I'm not getting my doctors data results today....BOO-HOO. :(

Dr. S. is off today (how dare him! )...so now I have to wait until tomorrow.

This is actually a BRILLIANT solution, I think it will work, I'm going to try it next time I take the pectin.

I think it's "roux" but don't quote me on that

Does Pectasol have other ingredients besides the pectn in it? just curious...

April, thanks for answering. If I remember correctly your pectin product had other ingredients in it like psyllium and beet something or other....I assume that is why the dosage is a tbsp. then.

I think Donna's method of adding a little liquid to the powder to start, rather than the other way around, might work. Then stir in more water a little at a time to get it to the desired drinking texture.

Psyllium definitely was not my friend, it never made me regular, which is what I thought it was suppose to do  It actually seemed to bind me up, PLUS I found out I was allergic, so no psyllium for me.

You could always try just a plain pectin product and see if there is any difference for you.

Hmmm the Humaworm, I don't know?

Carla did you have problems sleeping on it?

Donna, are you back on it?

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that parasites are active at night, maybe they are being killed off (gross  ) or something??

April, my guess is that the humaworm isnt a good choice for you. Listen to your body.

Each of us is very different in what we can or cant tolerate. Your body may be reacting negatively to something in the humaworm. Since your head got big I'm thinking that something was making your leaky gut worse (some herbs can do this!), something was stressing your liver or you're getting a reaction to something in the ingredients.

Unfortunately, the same treatments dont work for everyone. :(

Yeah, I didn't sleep while on it. I think it has to do with the bug die-off...the liver has to work really hard with all that going on, and that can disturb sleep. How is the head? Any sign of big head syndrome? I'd say that would be reason enough to not want to stay on it. The sleep is just a by-product I think...my sleep improved VERY slightly when I started taking charcoal in the middle of the night, but that was only the last 3 days on Humaworm...and when I say SLIGHTLY I mean very slightly, lol. I'm sleeping MUCH better now that I'm not taking the Humaworm. It's also possible that one of the herbs in it has a "hyper" affect on some of us.

The pectasol has no other ingredients, but has 90mg of sodium and 600 mg Potassium noted on the label.

This is the brand I used (suggested by my HN doctor)...NOTE: It's EXPENSIVE, lol:

Here is a description:

How Pectin Is Modified

When its larger molecules are broken down into smaller ones, modified Citrus Pectin takes on a different molecular weight than ordinary citrus pectin. There are several ways to modify pectin. The less expensive method is a process that uses sodium hydroxide (otherwise known as lye) along with an acid that breaks down pectins molecules into smaller, non-uniform fragments, which consist of molecules no smaller than 30,000 daltons. Studies indicate that pectins molecules should be between 10,000 to 20,000 daltons for optimal absorption.

PectaSols Molecular Weight

PectaSol, the highest-quality modified citrus pectin, is produced using an expensive enzymatic process that produces a product with molecules between 10,000 and 20,000 daltons. When pectins molecules are between 10,000 and 20,000 daltons more of them are absorbed and get to the target area. It takes less PectaSol, a high-quality modified citrus pectin, to be effective than one of a lower quality.

PectaSol modified citrus pectin has been shown in clinical trials to help slow down the spread of cancer cells to additional sites in the body. It may also help to reduce Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) doubling Time in prostate cancer patients. PectaSol is uniquely formulated in a way that allows it to penetrate into the bloodstream, where it binds to the surface of cancer cells. The bound citrus pectin prevents the cancer cells from sticking to each other, which may interfere with their growth cycle and block their ability to adhere to new sites in the body. PectaSol is the only brand of modified citrus pectin that has been successfully tested in human clinical trials. Human clinical trial results for PectaSol showed a significant slowing of (PSA) doubling time among prostate cancer patients. 86% of patients in the initial clinical trial either stabilized or had a significant positive response.*

I'm on day7 of HW. I had a headache on day 3 and 4 but otherwise sleeping good with very vivid lively dreams. My poo is darker than normal but haven't seen anything yet. I also take a large dose of herbal lax to keep things moving. I had my customized without psylium.

I took it to my EAV practioner and it tested TOO good for me. It showed my body wanted at least 7 a day but I'm doing just what was given per instructions.

The whole family is on it and seem to be doing fine.

The kids told Grandma and Grandpa they got "worm pills" in their stocking. LOL

I did kids pilates today. Keep in mind I have all kinds of back and hip problems. I only lasted for about 7 minutes today. I really actually don't like yoga at all...I too, get really bored with it! My LLMD told me to do BASIC "stretching" 2x a week because I am so weak.

I bought a DVD from Target, but returned it because I remembered we have OnDemand and there's no point in paying for anything if I can get it for free. You could try doing pilates...it's a little faster than yoga and not as focused on "reaching your center blah blah..." lol!

I have heard a lot of people LOVE Wonsor Pilates. I did it once and I realy liked it...it was a lot of fun, and faster than yoga so you don't want to die of boredom.

Kassandra,

I have done pilates before and it is fun. They only thing is they are not on tv til afternoon, and if i dont get it in first thing in the morning then i wont do it, i cant work out after i shower, im odd like that lol. But maybe when i start taking baths at night it wont matter, once the kids go back to school i can get into some kind of schedule.

Ok i started the candida diet today and my body is freaking out. My insides feel all jittery and i got an headache and my eyes are kinda filmy. I was researching and they said u can have an herx from the candida diet. But would it already be working this fast. I started at 5:30 this morning and its now 3. Is there anyting i can do to feel better. I do have more energy tho, just feel really odd?

This sounds to me like histamine intolerance. Some foods have more or less histamine. processed or aged meats, fermented food like yoghurt or kimchi and bread (yeast), spinach, eggplant and mushroom are high in histamine. Other foods like tomatoes are histamine liberators, they encourage your mast cells to release histamine, which can also trigger the reactions you describe, flu like symptoms, joint pain, urinary tract irritation, rash, stomach upset, nausea, diarrhoea & fatigue. I had liver pain like you describe, as part of the intolerance is usually a sluggish liver that makes processing all the histamine difficult. There are multiple possible root causes of histamine intolerance, usually it’s a symptom of something else. In my case, leaky gut (damaged gut wall)caused by undiagnosed celiac, but for others it’s leaky gut caused by other things like dysbiosis. Some people also experience histamine intolerance due to mould exposure or low levels of DAO (the enzyme that breaks down histamine in the gut). I’d try a low histamine diet & if that doesn’t improve symptoms fully, try low oxalate too. As others have suggested, supplements like vitamin d, b, l-glutamine to support a healthy gut & a good liver support supplement too. If you’re in a histamine flare take vitamin c to bowel tolerance & your symptoms will calm down (avoid if you find you have oxalate intolerance though). Best of luck

@GeoPeanut, milk is one of the better sources of iodine. Iodine is known to exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. Many people find that a low iodine diet helps them avoid dermatitis herpetiformis outbreaks. So, maybe the fact that you have limited your dairy intake of late is helping with that.
    • GeoPeanut
Hi, I'm new here. Sorry for your troubles.herenis a thought to mull over. I recently was diagnosed with celiac disease,  and hashimoto's and dermatitis herpetiformis after getting covid 19. I eat butter, and 1/2 cup of Nancy's yogurt daily. I stopped all other dairy and  dermatitis herpetiformis is gone! I also make grass fed beef bone broth to help with myopathy that has occurred.

Welcome to the forum, @KRipple! Sorry to hear of all your husband's health problems. I can only imagine how anxious this makes you as when our spouse suffers we hurt right along with them. Can you post the results from the Celiac blood testing for us to look at? We would need the names of the tests run, the numeric results and (this is important) the reference ranges for each test used to establish high/low/negative/positive. Different labs use different rating scales so this is why I ask for this. There aren't industry standards. Has your husband seen any improvement from eliminating gluten from his diet? If your husband had any positive results from his celiac blood antibody testing, this is likely what triggered the consult with a  GI doc for an endoscopy. During the endoscopy, the GI doc will likely biopsy the lining of the small bowel lining to check for the damage caused by celiac disease. This would be for confirmation of the results of the blood tests and is considered the gold standard of celiac disease diagnosis. But here is some difficult information I have for you. If your husband has been gluten free already for months leading up to the endoscopy/biopsy, it will likely invalidate the biopsy and result in a false negative. Starting the gluten free diet now will allow the lining of the small bowel to begin healing and if enough healing takes place before the biopsy happens, there will be no damage to see. How far out is the endoscopy scheduled for? There still may be time for your husband to go back on gluten, what we call a "gluten challenge" to ensure valid test results.

Ive read articles that there is stage 2 research being conducted for drugs that will limit damage to celiacs through cross contamination- how close are they to this will there be enough funding to create a mainstream drug?
