Zithromax Oral Suspension?

I am going to go crazy!! I noticed it wasn't on the gluten-free list I had so I looked up online. Some say yes and some say no. Some depends on if it is pill, tablet or liquid. So I called the pharmacy. They say "I believe it is gluten-free. Doesn't look like there is anything in it" Ok...that was reassuring! So I call the dr and they tell me to call the pharmacy. I said "I did and they told me to call you!" So they have to research it and come back and tell me they don't "think' so. SO now I am coming to the real experts....

LADIES AND GENTELMEN....DOES OR DOES NOT ZITHROMAX ORAL SUSPENSION HAVE ANY KIND OF GLUTEN IN IT??? Can I give it to my daughter??

Hi Kimberly--I just spoke with Jean--a pharmacist at Pfizer. She told me that Zithromax Z-Pack and Oral Suspension had between 0.01-0.05% of gluten from sources other than wheat, oat, barley or rye. She would not specify where it did come from, just where it didn't. Their customer service # is 1-800-438-1985.

Something makes me doubt that they get the gluten from trictale or spelt...where else would they get it?

Maybe it's an elaborate CYA statement. I hate drug companies

Probably from corn.

FYI,

I was put on Zithromax pills some years ago (before becoming gluten-free) and had D for 5 weeks, so badly that I became dehydrated and needed IV fluids. Karen

and I have seen numerous statements, from pfizer, stating that the Z-pack IS gluten free (for celiacs).

don't forget that antibiotics, on their own, can cause serious D.

I am not taking anything except for the multivitamins that I purchased from the supermarket.

The critic acid and sodium citrate is corn unfortunately and they don’t have to label corn because it’s not part of the top 9 allergen and not mandatory 😭

Yaya, from the JAMA study you refer to: "Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity." No one on this forum is recommending  taking anywhere near that amount. We're talking about 5-10,000IU daily.

"Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while someone is taking high doses of vitamin D." Quoted from the Healthline article @Yaya linked above...
