I was sitting on the other side of the room. I am the youngest one there......out side of the baby that was there :). I believe I was wearing a pair of cargo paints and I spoke about asking Stop and Shop to carry Glutino produts.

Sorry I dont remember seeing you

I will be there at 9:00 on saturday what time are you volunteering?

OK, I talked my mom into going for me (I'm not in NY)

She's going to call me from there, what should I have her look for?

She's going to call me from there, what should I have her look for?

Definately the rainbow cookies from Earth Remedies! (yknow the ones you would find in bakeries that are bright yellow, pink and green and the top and sides are covered with chocolate). I also remember from another thread you mentioning you like the black & white cookies. I've never had theirs, but if they're anything like the rainbow ones you'll want those too.

Also have her get you french bread from Everybody Eats.

Those are some of the vendors that are gonna be there that I'm familiar with.

tell her to stop by "mr ritts bakery" they have the BEST stuff! Oh and it might be wise of her to bring a cooler if she is planning on shopping alot. Most of the stuff is going to be frozen.

Good Luck :D

Minibabe--are you the one that was talking about Trix cereal and asking about the fruit things? I was right across the room from you--I am the one who mentioned the Pacific Pride vitamins with the barley grasses. See you Sunday. Deb

The vendor fair was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Great job Deb, Amanda and all the other Suffolk County members that where there. I wanted to look for you guys but OMG was it packed! I got there around 12:00 and I couldn't believe how many people where there.

I bought bread from The Gluten Free Bread Basket - delicious!!! I just had a roast beef sandwich :)

I wanted to get the bagels from Joan but she was all out so I'm gonna order them.

There were some amazing products and it was so great to be able to try things without spending $7 to see if you like it. I have been eyeing the cranberry orange scones in Whole Foods but never wanted to waste money on it if I didn't like it. But now I know they are great!

The only thing I was bummed about is I don't think Earth Remedies had arrived yet and I really wanted to buy a couple packs of the rainbow cookies. And I couldn't find Mama's.

Thanks so much for hosting this event with Comfy Cuisine. I don't think you need me to tell you what a huge hit it was!! I might join the Westchester Celiac Support Group just so I can organize this event in my area.

tHE FAIR WAS GREAT.

MICHAEL THORN DID A GREAT JOB.

THE OTHER VOLUNTEERS FROM SUFFOLK DID A GREAT JOB.

THERE WAS A LOT OF VENDORS.

PLEANTY OF SAMPLES.

I SPOKE TO WHOLE FOODS AND SUGGESTED THEY HAVE A STICKER FOR GLUTEN FREE FOOD.

I SPENT ABOUT $100 DOLLARS ON THE MERCHANTS.

ONE MERCHANT CAME FROM COLORADO.

ANN LEE WAS THERE AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS. I BELIEVE SHE MAY BE COMING TO SEP MEETING IN SUFFOLK.

I DID NOT SEE EARTH REMIDES. HIS STORE IS OPEN ON SUNDAYS. MAYBE HE COULDNT GET SOMEONE TO COVER.

I DID NOT SEE mAMAS RESTURANT EITHER .

I BOUGHT A SHIRT AND HAT FROM SILY SHIRTS AND RECEIVED A FREE MAGIZINE.

GREAT JOB. I NEVER EXPECTED IT TO BE SO GOOD.

I AM NOT A CELIAC BUT MY DAUGHTER IS. THE SAMPLES TASTED BETTER THAN GLUTEN FOOD.

rAMPOO BEER WAS THERE IT TASTED GREAT. i NEVER LIKE BEER BUT THIS WAS THE BEST BEER I HAVE EVER TASTED.

cOMFY CUSINE WAS GREAT THE SAMPLES. HIS PIZZA HAS A GREAT TASTE.

I ONLY LIVE 15 MINUTES AWAY BUT IF I LIVED 75 MILES AWAY THE FAIR WOULD BE GREAT.

HOFEFULLY WE HAVE SOME MORE FAIRS IN THE FUTURE.

I THINK EVERY ONE WAS HAPPY. MY SEVEN YEAR OLD WAS HAPPY.

minibabe Contributor

There was a total of 704 people who walked through the door yesterday :D

Everyone did such a great job and I ended up spending about 100.00 also. It was really worth it though. I also spoke with some of the vendors and they said that this had been the most orgainzed even they had been to. Mostly everyone was extremely willing to come back.

Thanks to everyone who showed there support. :)

Jillian, you probably did see me, I was at the door handing out bags. Had my hair up in a bun--wearing a green shirt--hehe, well we all were wearing green shirts. Was a great place to be, wasnt it? Deb

Oh I did see you!!! I think you actually handed me a bag. Ok you saw like a bazillion people, but I was wearing faded green cargo pants, a navy blue tank top and had sunglasses on top of my head.

You guys put on an amazing event! Not only was it so great to try lots of products to see if I liked them before spending the money; I got to try products that I never would have known about (like Joan's bagels - OMG, words can not describe). And I've been meaning to go to the Gluten Free Bread Basket but hadn't made it a huge priority because I was afraid I'd be a little disappointed (like when I went to Happy Happy Happy). But after tasting her bread not only am I going to become a regular customer, I can't wait to visit her and try lots of other goodies.

It was also just so great to be able to walk around a room and eat anything I wanted. I felt like a normal person.

I want to contact someone in the Westchester Celiac Support Group to see if they will do a similar one.

You are most welcome, Marie.  Thank you for getting in touch, because this sort of post will be seen by other parents who find themselves in this position, I am sure there are many.   And as I say, in the long run, I am sure your daughter will be sorry for what she said.  I remember having a go at my dear Mum when I was in my twenties about something and then apologising, saying, "I don't know how you put up with me."  I can't remember her exact words but it was something along the lines of, "I used to say things like to my Mum.  Now it's my turn [to be on the receiving end]!"    😂  Although it isn't very nice to be on the receiving end, it is good your daughter feels safe to say these things to you. We look forward to hearing from you again in due course.

Are You Confused About Your Celiac Disease Lab Results? Some people test negative but have a positive biopsy, others test positive but negative biopsy.  This is why it can take years and misdiagnosis of other diseases that Celiac Disease can mimic. The above link is a good read with real life examples. Something I find interesting is that in 1980 or so a new diagnosis was created, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity, only 10 years after Norman Borlaug won the Nobel Peace Prize for creating our modern wheat and the Green Revolution.

@Steve-n-Portland, there is a difference in the requirements to use the label "Gluten Free" and the label "Certified Gluten Free". "Gluten Free" is governed by FDA regulations and has a ceiling of 20 ppm. "Certified Gluten Free" is a labeling convention used by the GFCO, an independent international third party certifying group that uses 10 ppm as its standard.
    • trents
We have had numerous reports from forum participants experiencing gluten reactions from Trader Joe "gluten-free" products. It seems it's not a good place for the celiac/gluten sensitive community to shop.
    • Steve-n-Portland
Also, a class action lawsuit was launched in 2024 against Trader Joe's re: their " gluten free" everything bagels. They tested at 269ppm. (Personally, I am not sure they will win. The FDA says that the *ingredients* have to be less than 20ppm for a company to label something "gluten-free."  In order to be certified as gluten-free by the GFCO, the *final product* needs to be less than 20ppm. That said, the lawsuit is arguing that most people read that label and assume the final product is safe for people with celiac. Thus, many people were made sick. And being sick can have costly consequences in regard to work or school, depending when one becomes ill.)
