 There's nothing like getting down to the bare basics with this disease is there!?

We have to do the most gross tests, and if you got any pride left they'll find a worse one just for you :o:rolleyes:

It does sound a bit like tape worm, but hopefully not.

The old remedy for tape worm is to eat whole garlic cloves  Used to work on the dogs, but don't know if it works with humans. I do hope you are managing to retain your sense of humour , it's so hard to do sometimes. Hang in there!

looked at some pics of tape worms and they usaly look slightly like worms, this thing just strait out looked like a piece of tape. like i said he thinks it was a parasite. Is it bad to have parasits? or is it a easy fix?

It's an easy fix. Some remedies are even OTC, but I think it's for pin worms or round worms. But aren't round worms really a fungus? I forget. Anyhow, believe it or not, it's a common subject of farmer wives down here in the Ozarks. But no, I don't know any home remedies. And I think some of those "cures" are worse than the disease. Have your dr look at it, but it does sound like tape worm. Did you eat any fish that may have been undercooked slightly two to three weeks ago?

Annette

You can also pick them up from an infected pet, either cat or dog, but more often dog.

Yes, best to check with your doctor, it will cause you to loose weight if it is a tapeworm, not to mention added digestive stress.

I think it's ringworm that's the fungus...... Two of my four children had it from day care......

Karen

i acually dont eat fish, i cant stand seafood have not found any that i like, and i dont own any pets so thats probaby not ringworm, maybe hte fungus thing your talking about since i do have alot of nastys in my poops including like what looks like barnicals that come from some of the mucus and crap pretty unhealthy looking but i guess my colon probably is cleansing instelf after going gluten free\

ok i regect my comment about it maybe beeing a ringworm after looking at pics, i dont have any skin blemishss that would go along with it

jenvan Collaborator

You don't have 'eat' something contaminated to get worms either--they can also be passed person to person... One more day till your appt right???!

Lister Rising Star

indeed, good thing too im falling apart, and now 2 of my coworkers have the flu god if i get it im gonna be so pissed i cant handle another sickness right now

eKatherine Apprentice

How big was the thing? Did you save it? There are things we eat that contain indigestible membranes, like citrus, for instance.

Lister Rising Star

it was only like as big as a piece of tape that you would put at the corner of a poster to hang up. really was not as wide as tape though but it looked like tape. and im also wondering, can D come and go during the healing prosess?? as i just had a movement that was half d and half solid, i am workin around sick people so im not sure if i caught something or if its just me beeing me lately

yesterday i was pluged besides for that 1 small movement that contained the thing that is unknown at this time, an now i have D, the only thing i can think of is maybe i got whaterver the employes have since they all have d but my d is still coverd in mucuse and is very green. Could the D have been caused by the fact that i had a gluten free hotdog last night-- since they are very very prossesessed?

eKatherine Apprentice

Most of your questions I have no experience with, but you know that damaged skin will at first appear to heal, then slough off, as with a sunburn. So it's not impossible that it's part of the regeneration process.

Probably not tapeworms. Ones I have seen are don't look like tape, more like little pasta segments that move slowly. You generally get that from rare meat, and only certain kinds, like wild animals (or pork in the Southwest, or so I have heard). Cats eat little whole raw animals to get them. Have you eaten an uncooked intestinal tract lately? I didn't think so.

It's totally possible that it could have been undigested lettuce. For some reason some coeliacs find in the early stages of healing that lettuce 'comes out' as it 'went in' !

My husband's been G.F nearly 2 years now. Some days he has a 'normal' bowel movement-other days he has D (what he affectionately refers to as a 'coeliac poo'!)-other days it's multi coloured even!

Everyone takes different time heal-and for some adults it can take 2 years or more.

As you've only been dx a while you may have quite a bit of damage to undo :)

Having said all that,it's a good thing to discuss your concerns with the doc, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck with your appt :)

Lister,

How about listing everything you ate 24 hours prior to the suspect poop? Maybe we can identify what could have caused it (oranges is definitely one, happens to me also!) For example, did you eat anything with onions the day before? Any veggies or fruit with skin on?

Karen

Lister Rising Star

i would normaly think it is lettice since ia lmost alwayse dispense some when i have a movement, but it was litarly perfectly shaped rectangle. as for whati ate 24 hours prior here is the list not in correct order because my brain does not feel like working. bannans, salad * containing romain, spinich, carrots, cucumbers* *sometimes containing either a burger patty or a gluten free hotdog* small amount of kettle chips before i desided that i didnt want to risk the cc anymore. and gatorade other then that nothing i have been eating very little as of late.

Monica, the worms themselves are long, flat, faily thin ribbons..length depends on age. The rice like things are eggs of tape worms.

I've had a puppy infested with tape worms, it really isn't nice.

it is not difficult to do a parasite cleanse. go to your local health food store and ask for help. most professionals reccomend doing a fiber drink as well to help remove the dead parasites, just make sure both products are gluten free.

jenvan Collaborator

I doubt it would be pinworms--you would know if you had those!!! You wouldn't be able to sit still!

Looking at tapeworms makes me want to barf!!! but it doesn't seem like that's your problem. Are you very underweight?

HOW was your doctor's appt today Lister??

Lister Rising Star

i go for the opointment in 1 hour im nerviuse lol, also i can barely stand today, i think i may be starving myself, and its causing fatigue, im so parnoide about cc i wont use any of my dishs anymore since my roomate wont take care of anything. I have only been eating salads and bananas for the past 3 days besides for some lumbarg rice chips. No you couldnt say i am skinny but i did loose dramatic weight this past month, before going to the doctor for the first time and before i got sick i was 289 pounds now i am 195-197 not sure the exact weight so i lost almost 100 pounds in one month, not sure if this was because of beeing sick for so long, or from not eating, or just from rapade change in my diet since i used to eat burger king 3 meals a day because i work there and its free... im still loosing a average of a pound to 2 pounds a day lately

Holy crap! :o

That's definitely not healthy, and just starving yourself couldn't cause that in a month! The max amount of healthy weight to lose in a month is what? 12 lbs for an average person? Maybe 20 for a larger person? Yikes! I hope you get some answers!!!

Hi Marie Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry your daughter is pointing the finger at you like this.   I am afraid children of any age can be very cruel to their parents - I certainly look back at some of the things I said to my mother and father in the past, and wish I could unsay them.  Sometimes people just need a safe place to vent, and unfortunately having a go at one's parents is the all too easy option.  If she is anything like me, she will regret what she says one day.  (Oh... if only I had the chance rewind the clock!) I just wanted to add one more thing to Trent's and Scott's excellent posts and that is regarding diet:  I have to say, not one person  (my nutritionist, my gastroenterologist or GP) has EVER suggested that a poor diet was the cause of my coeliac disease.    In all the various clinics I have attended these past nearly 12 years no-one has ever asked if I was brought up on processed food, or questioned if I eat 5 fruit and veg a day.  Sure, unfortunately I am only too well aware that I could do a lot better with my diet and it's a constant challenge for me not to give into what I like (unfortunately I've always had a sweet tooth).   But I know some super healthy 10 fruit and veg a day types who still got coeliac disease, and equally, a lot of people who eat all the wrong stuff and they still have cast iron stomachs. Do encourage her to get checked though - it may be that she hasn't got coeliac disease at all. Come back to us if you need any more support through the process. Cristiana

Welcome to the forum, @Marie70! The first thing to know is that celiac disease has a genetic base. The two main genes that have been identified as providing the potential to develop celiac disease are HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8. About 40% of  the general population carries one or both of these genes. However, only about 1% of the general population ever develops celiac disease. So, we know that in addition to possessing the genetic potential to develop celiac disease, there has to be some triggering environmental or medical "stress" factor (or factors) that switches the gene or genes on such that they are awakened from their latent condition and become active. What may be the triggering factor (or factors) is the subject of much debate. Here is an article that discusses this subject: Second, what will your daughter have to say if her testing for celiac disease is negative? She may have to add crow to her diet. Third, and this is what I really want to focus on because my wife and I are dealing with something similar in our relationship with our own adult daughter: the real problem is not whatever shortcomings you, as the family cook, may have had when providing meals, the real problem is with your daughter's heart/soul/attitude. If it turns out to be true that she has celiac disease, it is likely she would have developed the condition sooner or later even if her diet had been healthier while growing up. She is angry about the prospect of having to deal with the dietary and social limitations that having celiac disease would impose upon her. She doesn't want to face up to the fact that this may be a new reality that will dramatically changer her life and she is looking for someone or something to blame. And she has conveniently turned her wrath on you rather than saying to herself, "Okay, this is what it is. Now what can I do to make adjustments in order to with it the best way I can?"  When faced with a life-changing reality, people will either accept it for what it is, make adjustments and move on or they will become angry and look for something or someone to blame and get stuck. For now, at least, your daughter has chosen the latter option. Don't let her problem destroy both of you.

It sounds like you’re carrying a lot of guilt, but please know that you didn’t cause your daughter’s potential celiac disease or your son’s Crohn’s. These conditions have strong genetic components, and while diet can influence symptoms, it does not cause autoimmune diseases. You did the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time, and no parent is perfect. Your daughter’s frustration is understandable, but it’s likely coming from a place of fear and uncertainty rather than true blame. Let her get tested, and if she does have celiac disease, you can support her moving forward. Instead of focusing on guilt, try shifting the conversation toward healing and learning together. You’re not alone, and you don’t deserve to carry this weight on your own. This article might be helpful. She needs to be screened for celiac disease before she can be sure that she has it. Another approach not discussed in the article is a genetic test for celiac disease, which she could do without eating gluten.

Hello, My mid twenties daughter is blaming my husband and I for her celiac disease.  She has not been diagnosed at all, but GOOGLE has informed her she has it.  She is going to go get tested now, but my question is, did we?  I was not the best cook while she was growing up and often made quick processed food for meals.  She is blaming us for what she ate growing up and is angry that we didn't feed her better.  I don't know how to react and all I could tell her was I was sorry.  Her older brother has Crohn's disease and he was diagnosed as a teenager.  She is also furious with us that we didn't change his diet either.  I don't know why I didn't and I am having so much guilt I don't even know how to handle this situation.  Both sides of our family have a history of IBS, Celiac and Crohn's disease.   I guess I just wanted to hear from anyone out there that can either point blame at me (I can accept it) or tell me that the food she ate growing up didn't have an affect on her.  I am thinking it most likely did. Thank you, Marie
    • RMJ
I’d say celiac is likely.  Please continue to eat plenty of gluten until your endoscopy to be sure that any gluten-related damage can be seen.  Plus it gives you one last chance to enjoy your favorite gluten-containing foods. I hope the endoscopy/biopsies give you a definitive answer.
