Scared, Bad Rash After Eating?

Hi guys, last night about 2 hours after eating dinner my body started to feelreally hot then both my arms broke out in a really bad rash, all raised bumps, but not red just raised bumps and feels very hot..hubby and I thought it was the soy I ate the last few days.

so..tonight I made sure I had no soy, I had dinner and within 1/2 hour my arms are both covered with these awful burning hot bumps, it looks like when you go to the allergist and get the skin prick test and I'm positive for a million things..also my feet are on fire and my stomach hurts and lots of acid.

any ideas? I'm scared, afraid to eat

thanks

If you have any benadryl take it and then personally I would call my doctor or head to the ER. If you should start to feel any swelling in your throat call an ambulance. You sound like you are having a histamine reaction.

ebrbetty Rising Star

thanks I took some and feel a bit better, but the raised bumps are still all over my arms. what I don't understand is the foods I ate where totally different, so what could cause the allergic reaction? I'm not going to eat till I can get this taken care of..too scary

I had allergy tests done a few months ago, came back negative, going to call my allergist tomorrow, but I doubt they'll test me again

shai76 Explorer

It does sound serious. Before I've had anaphelectic reactions I get really warm inside, and then feel groggy andbreak out in hives. I would go back to the allergist.

ebrbetty Rising Star

thanks I'm going to call this morning, still covered in hives this morning, they went down some over night

I get hot too, then the hives and my mouth tingles

I'm not going to eat anything till I can find out whats causing this, hopefully I won't have to live on water for the weekend..this is a scary thing!!

shai76 Explorer

Well, you need to eat something. :)

Try sweet potatos, squash, melons, rice, fresh fruit and veggies (not corn). Those things are least likely to cause an allergic reaction.

I just had 1/2 cup of coffee and some water, hot all over and feeling funny again

Betty--Just seeing this this morning. I'm worried about you--you do need to get to the doctor or the emergency room right away. It sounds like what happened to me when I had an allergic reaction to a medication. That's another thought--we can become allergic to a drug at any time, even after we've been on it before. Perhaps, if it's not a food, it's a medicine. Please take care, and I'll be thinking about you :)

ebrbetty Rising Star

hi patti, thanks for the support..I just got off the phone with the allergist, he wants me to come right in, but can't do testing because I took benadryl..the nurse thinks he'll give me an epi- pen

good I'm scared

shai76 Explorer

I hope they can help you figure it out. Let us know. :)

ebrbetty Rising Star

thank you..I appreciate the help and support!!

sure wish I didn't take the benadryl..they could have tested me today, not sure what they'll be able to do

queenofhearts Explorer

I hope all goes well. This happened to me once & we never did find out what set it off. Terrible hives all over & my eyes swelled the size of tennis balls & turned red as beets. My throat felt hot & tight too. It's a pretty scary feeling.

The hives lasted for a good while after the reaction is controlled, but in my case they did not return. Hope the same is true for you!

This was long before I was diagnosed... now I wonder if gluten was involved.

Hope you feel better soon.

I know--darn! But, at least they can let you know what to do to be safe until you can be tested. I think you only have to wait 3 days after taking an antihistimine--that's what my Allergist's office recommends. Let us know how you do :)

<_< eberbetty; Were you outdoors after you ate? maybe biiten by an insect? I was stung by a sweat bee years ago, got hives over night, had to go in to hospital for antihistamine shot. I had another one bit late @ Dr. office to clear thraot swelling, since I am a delayed reactor the worst came next am. have had Epipen since. Luck to you, evei

It's probably a good thing you took the Benadryl when the reaction was at its worst-- you can have dangerous complications like being unable to breathe! So first things first... but I can understand you want to know what caused it so it won't happen again.

Good luck,

Leah

Pesticides can cause ana like reactions too. It could be anything, that's why it's so frustrating.

It's good you took the Benadryl. But they could still do a RAST test and have the results within a week no matter what medicines you are taking. I prefer the RAST over the skin prick because I've had anaphelectic reactions to the skin prick, plus you have to be careful about what meds you take and all that. My insurance doesn't like paying for them either.

ebrbetty Rising Star

hi guys, thank you all for the support. I went to the allergist, we showed him the pictures hubby took of the hives and explained what happened and what I ate. he said it was not a reaction to food because all my skin prick and RAST test from Feb. came back negative, I said well maybe things changed in 4 months..he explained that as far as food allergies go 4 months is like a few days, things would not change that fast..he said he believes its a chemical reaction...a chemical reaction to sodium  its funny my mom mentioned salt too..I've been eating a lot of soy sause and taking baking soda for heartburn, he said with celiac disease i could be absorbing more salt

I sure hope hes right, said hes seen this before..he gave me 2 epi-pens just incase

I just finished dinner, salmon[no salt] and a sweet potato with a little brown sugar..soooo we shall see what happens, I'm holding my breath..my acid is really bad but I can't have baking soda  stupid as it may sound, I did not realize baking soda was pure salt!

thank you all again, if anyone has ever heard of having a reaction/intolerance to salt I'd love to know about it

jerseyangel Proficient

Well, I'm glad you are ok! Salt--who would have thought?! But you were probably taking in a lot more than you thought with the baking soda and everything. Good that he gave you the Epi Pens--that should make you feel a little more at ease. Hope tonight is uneventful! :D

Can you take pepto bismal? It is the best thing I have found for acid, it seems to work better for me than antiacids do and helps with the nausea I usually get with the heartburn. Another thing you may want to try is a spoonful of apple cider vinager, sometimes the pain can come from not enough acid instead of too much and if that is the case the spoonful of vinager would stop it immediately.

you mentioned the pricky test, my condolenses!! I had to get that test but instead of doing the set of ten, they did the set of fourty. I turned out to be allergic to all of them and I really itched! then the cream was doing something weird and I couldn't itch my back because it was going to bleed! then I had to go to school. Sorry I couldn't help with your other problem but I know how you feel if that helps, I am gettin the shots for allergic reactions and I had a reaction and I got all warm and hives and stuff. I hope you get to the bottom of this!! PS, when you figure out whats wrong, I hope you get to have chocolate!

I use Heinz and any time it I have heard of folks using this it was always the apple cider. Do you have other intolerances than gluten? I cut my nightshade use down and haven't had a problem since.

I had a reaction something like this to coffee! No rash, but I got feverish, had abdominal pain, feeling achy all over. I gave up coffee, and it has only happened on the rate times when I drank it again.

New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
