What Symptoms With A Glutening Do You Experience?

I'm still new to the diet, but tried to challenge on Thursday. (bagel) It was weird. Nothing really seemed to happen (digestively speaking). I was in a bad brain fog and my head hurt starting that night and through ALL of Friday like a hangover. And I was constipated. And I had a bad night sweat Thursday night. But what I expected--severe diarrhea, cramping, bloating...didn't happen until Friday night/Saturday morning. I'm wondering if that was the gluten or something else. But man..sorry to go into such detail...but I spent 5 hours in/out the bathroom Saturday morning between 5am-10am. Racing thoughts that kept me awake once that finally stopped.

So...am I out of the ordinary? What is to be expected when this happens? I haven't had my results back from Enterolab yet, but am back gluten-free until I get them, at least. Part of me hopes this is really the problem, so I can feel better.

Hi, and welcome to this board. Everybody reacts somewhat differently to gluten. When I first found out about the celiac disease, I'd get the horrible diarrhea within 20 minutes. Now I have an extremely delayed reaction, and won't get it until a week later, lasting about two days.

So, I believe that you had a somewhat delayed reaction on Saturday. Which is obviously not unusual.

Welcome!

I get diarrhea, it used to be immediate, but now it's delayed until the next day. Also, brain fog, fatigue, rash, stomach hurts and makes a lot of noise. I can feel fatigued for as long as a week.

Food might just naturally move slower through your GI system, causing a delayed reaction in the diarrhea, cramping etc. When you are eating gluten on a regular basis, it is constantly moving in and out of your system. When you're gluten free and then do a challenge, your body has to decide what to do with it and how to react. So in that respect it sounds like your symptoms are completely normal for being glutened.

For me it was mostly intestinal issues - everything turned to cement, and stayed that way :( The "big D" would have been welcomed.

I have yet to get a glutening AFAIK, since I never eat anything I haven't prepared for myself from scratch. My last experiment showed an even worse reaction than when I was eating wheat regularly, which is apparently quite common. I know I'll never purposly touch the stuff again!

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking that the challenge confirms my suspicion that I am sensitive...I have Enterolab results coming to me in about 2 weeks to prove it. But I'm staying away! On to a healthier life....

What would I do without my message board buddies? :D

This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease.

Search “deamidated gliadin Abs, IgG is 26.6/abnormal high” online for articles on your exact question above, and I’m sure this forum has an expert in explaining your test results as well.

In your whole posts the red flag raised is “villous atrophy,” this is serious as it is the villi that holds the nutrients until they are absorbed into the cells of the body… the focus should be on healing of the villi while maintaining gluten free diet. I’m sure there is a Dr’s and Specialist section on this forum that can assist you with more information.    In our Prayers with GOD for you and your daughter. LORD GOD send YOUR Holy Angels to Protect and Provide for Your children and All those involved and affected by All they are enduring, that All their Spiritual and temporal needs are met according to THY Most Perfect and HOLY will O LORD 🙏😇
