Lehigh Valley/philly Restaurants

I live in the Lehigh Valley area and my boyfriend was diagnosed with Celiac three years ago. We are looking for some good restaurants in the Lehigh Valley or Philadelphia area (both chain and not) that are willing to serve gluten-free patrons.

I just bought Triumph's Gluten Free Restaurant Guide, which has been some help, but I would really like some personal suggestions. We have only been out to eat once since his diagnosis and we are eager to find some restaurants willing to accomodate us.

Thanks all! :)

The regulars can accomodate him:

Outback

PF Changs

Maggianos

Macaroni Grille

Any sushi place!

Ted's Montana Grille

Carabbas

As far as other restaurants in the area:

Roy's (downtown)

Also, if you call ahead, most places can accomodate you.

Jules Thin Crust Pizza in Doylestown serves gluten-free pizza! I haven't been there, but other people on this forum said it was great. They have a website: Open Original Shared Link

I lived in bethlehem a couple years ago when I was at college but didn't go gluten-free until earlier this year... there's been a couple posts on this site about good experiences eating gluten-free at Red Robin, and there's one off 22 or somewhere between bethlehem and allentown...

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Hopefully we will get a chance to try some of these places soon. :)

My parents live there and there is a pizza place with gluten free yummy pizza. It is in Easton. Type in gluten free pizza restaurant in Easton Pa. I know I saw it on line. Can't remember name. The pizza is great. They have a whole gluten free menu and a shelf with gluten free treats, and also gluten free cheesecake.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibrin_glue From what I can tell, all ingredients seem to be of animal origin. The article does indicate the exact composition varies from manufacturer to manufacturer so to get a more precise answer you would likely need to find out who manufactured the fibrin in question and contact them.

Perhaps a silly question, but does fibrin glue, often used in surgery, contain gluten?  I've searched and searched and cannot find an answer.  Thanks, Tammie

https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/immunoglobulin-test https://labs.selfdecode.com/blog/high-iga/ I think for total IGA to be elevated to the point of being out of normal range there would need to be some chronic inflammation or infection happening, not just a short term event. As I said, I would visit with your doctor over this and I would ask to get that checked again in the near future after your back pain and cold have been resolved for a time.

@knitty kitty Hi there, All my other bloods were within normal limits, though my iron has always been just a couple from being below range. Physio thought I had Ehlers-danlos syndrome, she sent a letter to my doctor but doctor said i don't have it. I've only had stomach issues for 1.5 years. About 4 years ago I lost a tonne of weight (I did go through a really traumatic experience at that time which I got c-ptsd from) then 2.5 years ago I put all the weight back on plus 14kg and all within 6 weeks. I went up 3 clothing sizes. Bloat up like I'm  months pregnant. Pins and needles, aching joints and muscles, major forgetfulness and brain fog. Only get about 5 hrs sleep, urinate every hour day or night. Nausea and bad belly pain and rashes. No diarrhea though. It all just seemed to come out of no where. It's crazy and I'm getting no answers. Biopsy getting done it 2 days.

@Travel Celiac, Doing a happy dance with you!!!  You're doing very well!!!  Kudos for being a rescuer!  Hip Hip Hooray! Yes, strenuous exercise can raise your IgA, as can viral infections like the common cold or Covid.   https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9574171/ Do discuss with your doctor the nutritional deficiencies that frequently occur in Celiac Disease and on the gluten free diet.  Deficiencies in zinc, iron, the B vitamins, Vitamin C and Vitamin D can all affect your ability to fight off viruses and repair stressed muscles.
