gluten-free Stampede Breakfast Yesterday

Yesterday morning we took Ty to the Calgary Celiac Association Stampede Breakfast. We had gluten-free/lactose free pancakes, Spolumbo sausages and juice. At the breakfast was a guy serving up samples of gluten-free pizza. I got the impression it was a pretty new company "Judy G Gluten Free". They sell little pizzas about 9" or 10" in three flavours. Black Forest Ham & Pineapple, Pepperoni & Green Pepper and something else with the word Mediterranean in the title. They also sell a box of two shells w/o toppings so you can add your own. I can't remember all the ingredients, but I think the shells were dairy and soy free. They are available at a few health food stores in Calgary. Amaranth, both Community Natural Health food stores and I can't remember where else.

My non-gluten-free husband, who loves pizza said it was "all right". Ty didn't try any. He also only ate half the pancakes, but that's because pancakes are "disgusting" not because they didn't taste good. They were really good. They were made from the Kinnikinnick mix.

I can't find the Judy G website. I don't have the business card with me. The website just links you to an email address for inquiries anyway. The guy said they'd be in the freezer section of the HFS.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to go to Amaranth and find them. I hope the shells are dairy free too!

I couldn't go to said breakfast because I slipped in Zellers on Friday and have sprained my ankle, wrist, tore adductor, hamstring muscles, bruised my ribs and threw my whole back out.

I knew Spolumbo's are gluten-free. I missed the Amaranth breakfast they had that in June.

It still is, not only that but I have lost approximately $2000. in wages, another $2000. for an article I was to supply to a magazine on what Celiac's have to eat at the Stampede grounds (which is probably still nothing) and that was with pictures and I had a death in the family also. If I had only missed one day of work Zellers would have not been bothered again by me. But their floor was so slippery and very shiny.

Spolumbo's is a restaurant/ store only in Calgary that I know of.

Ouch! I hope you feel better soon. Too bad about the Stampede article. I would have loved to read that. When we went, we took popcorn and apples. We were only there from 6pm until 10:30, but they did have some fudge where the workers were knowledgeable. We asked what the fudge was made from and they said do you have allergies. My husband said, "He can't have wheat." I said, "He's celiac, he can't have wheat, rye, oats or barley." The one gal pointed and said okay, he can have any of these and then an older lady piped up and said he can have them all except the Oreo. She knew Oreos were made from wheat flour. :D

My one friend said we should go to the breakfast on kids day, it's free. I said what will Ty eat. He said, surely they'll have gluten-free pancakes there. I laughed at him.

Well, I have next year for the article, I guess. I lost a lot because of their overly waxed floors.

I cannot believe your friend thought they would have anything gluten-free for the breakfasts at the grounds. It is hard enough to find gluten-free in stores and restaurants.

I still hurt and my doctor says it will be awhile but I have to go back to work Thursday and that is 50 stairs to climb, it will be a tough day.

      Gluten in Escitalopram??

      Welcome to the forum, @Farmerswife! You are correct. Cornstarch should not contain gluten unless there is an issue with "cross contamination" with wheat/barley/rye in the processing. Even then, I can't imagine there being enough gluten in those pills/caplets/capsules to cause a reaction. Is this med in pill form, caplet form or capsule form? If capsule, it is possible that the capsule itself is made from wheat.  Another possibility is that your are "cross reacting" to the cornstarch. Maize is a fairly common cross reactor in the celiac community. But even so, there would likely be little maize (the protein component of corn) in the starch. Still another possibility, and the most likely one I'm thinking, is that you are experiencing a side effect of the med itself. It is an SSRI. Have you tried other SSRIs. SSRI's listed side effects include nausea and diarrhea. However, Escitalopram has the reputation of having less of a tendency than other SSRIs to produce these side effects. But you never know. Every individual is different. Have you tried other SSRIs?

      Recently diagnosed with Celiac and trying to figure out all the things. One concern I have is I have taken Escitalopram for years. Insurance does not pay for name brand so that is not an option. Cannot get it compounded at any local pharmacy. The generic brand that I have says it is not gluten free due to it having cornstarch in it. From what I understand cornstarch is gluten free. I do feel "glutened" most of the time when I take this. Anyone else have this issue and did you find a solution? Everything I google says Escitalopram is gluten free, but I don't think this one is.
