Smokey Bones

First let me say that I just ate at a Smokey Bones for the very first time. The location was Southaven, MS, just outside of Memphis. I had a GREAT experience!!! The manager was awesome! I asked to speak to him as soon as the hostess seated us. When he arrived at the table, he said that he had some understanding of Celiac, "It's the wheat thing, right?" Well, that was a great start for me :) I gave him my Triumph Dining card, and from there he started making recommendations and bringing me ingredient labels that he pulled off products back in the kitchen. He was fantastic!!!

I had the St Louis style ribs, steamed asparagus, and coleslaw. I was hoping for the french fries, but he said that they don't use dedicated fryers at this location. I was slightly disappointed at this news, but REALLY just glad that he was up front with me and so VERY eager to help. Almost 6 hrs later, and I'm doing great....fingers crossed.

Ok, here's my question: everything I read about gluten-free at Smokey Bones says "All Barbeque and Grill Favorites" are gluten-free. Well, to me that sounds like a section of the menu, but there was no such. I stuck with the St. Louis style ribs, because the manager couldn't find any ingredient info on the Baby Back Ribs. He said he couldn't be certain about the glaze on the Baby Backs. What exactly is gluten-free at Smokey Bones? What is included in the term, "All Barbeque and Grill Favorites"? Because the "original" and "mustard" barbecue sauces are listed specifically as gluten-free, does that mean that the glaze on the Baby Back ribs is not? Or are they considered one of the "All Barbecue and Grill Favorites"?

Please help clarify for me. The manager repeatedly asked us to come back. It was a terrific experience. When your medically-necessary diet causes extra work for someone, and they still treat you with a stellar level of courtesy, it just makes sense to give them your business again and again.

Please help me choose safely from Smokey Bones menu. Thank you.

My TTG was 167 one year ago. Recently had it retested one month ago and it went down to 16. I only recently had an endoscopy done as I was pregnant within the last year. I did not eat gluten prior to this endoscopy as I get very sick. Prior to obtaining the biopsies, the endoscopy said “ diffuse moderately erythematous mucosa to the second part of the duodenum without bleeding.” However, the biopsy came back negative. I assume it’s a false negative as I have also had genetic testing to confirm celiac. However, what would cause the inflammation to the second part of the duodenum and continued positive blood markers if the intestines have healed?

Thank you for direction.  Eating out is a concern though we rarely do, but I'm prepared now.

Thank you for the update.  So interesting to know how things are changing, when I was diagnosed I had very similar blood results but still had to have the endoscopy.  Glad you know where you stand.  As your father has celiac disease you probably already know a lot about it, but do contact us if we can help further.

But isn't it easier to just take a D3 supplement? Is the D light somehow a superior source? Links?
