babycakes is a bakery in nyc...

i tried their cupcakes.

in general, i found the texture of the cake part to be quite good-- much less dense than a lot of gluten-free cakes. better than happy happy happy (which closed down). the frosting, however, was not very good. these cupcakes could be awesome w/this cake and magnolia/buttercup bakery frosting!

of the three i tried,

i liked the vanilla the best,

the carrot the second best,

and i didn't really like the chocolate one at all (too cocoa-y or something).

anyone else try this place???

I tried it. Had a vanilla and chocolate cup cake. Both were good I thought. I liked the frosting but it does have a slightly different taste--soy maybe? Can't totally remember now. I thought the chocolate chip cookies were great!

I was really looking forward to trying these cupcakes and was extremely disappointed when I eventually did. The icing was disgusting...it didn't taste like icing. And considering icing is usually one of the easier things to find that is "gluten free," I wasn't impressed. Also, I thought the cupcake was really dense. Also, I had a really bad stomachache afterwards, which I was surprised since there was nothing that I am allergic/intolerance to in the cupcakes.

i liked babycakes but did not LOVE it. i felt like i only really liked it b/c i hadnt had cupcakes in a long time. I think Risotteria's desserts are SO much better-- everything i have had there for dessert has been sensational- and my non-celiac friends all agree.

OMG, I had an incredible strawberry shortcake at Risotteria a few weeks ago. It was just short of me licking the plate :D

AMAZING right? I couldve ordered another-- except we got the very last one they had... I have never had a bad dessert there though, i dont know what they put in their food, but its like crack! The baker there is opening up a bakery in NYC sometime in the next year or so, i cant wait!

Jillian- I am in westchester- bar was last week and i am now just recovering and relaxing...we must do dinner!

Aww...i missed you guys! I literally had to put aside my whole life for 3 months to study for the bar...but I'm back now! :)

      My kid has been eating gluten free (taking care of cc too) but he has constant stomach pain since diagnosis (4 months) Was wondering to look into other food allergies?

      It depends on what kind of allergy testing you want done and whether or not your insurance will allow you to make direct appointments with specialists. Serum allergy tests can be ordered by a PCP using a blood draw. Epidermal "prick panel" allergy testing would need to be done by an allergist. There is also something called ALCAT food sensitivity testing. We use the term "allergy" rather loosely and differently than it is used in medical settings.  All food allergy/sensitivity testing is problematic and the results often do not agree with each other or with actual symptoms. It's worth doing some research as to reliability before you dive into it.

      How do you do allergy tests? The primary doctor sends you to an allergist?

      1/1/2 slices of bread is likely not enough. Current guidelines for the gluten challenge are recommending 10g of gluten daily which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. Physicians in practice are often working from outdated info.

      Please list the ingredients of the granola. It may have nothing to do with gluten but an allergy or sensitivity to some ingredient.
