Hi~~

When you guys get drinks at Starbucks, do you ever worry that the lid has been cross contaminated, or only if it's made by the same person working the register? I'm just trying to figure out how cautious I have to be, if I need to pay attention to it, or if it's usually ok. I've never gotten sick there yet, but recently I've been having lots of problems with cross contaminition so no more risks. I'm hoping I'll still be able to go there, big fan of the soy lattes. :)

sigh. I used to even eat meat that had touched bread but no more.

For some reason I have choosen not to worry about this. Usually the person taking the order, getting gluten filled treats and taking your money is different from the person making the drink. I go to Starbucks about 4 times a week and have not had any trouble (knock on wood).

I think that you need to find what your comfort level is. None of us live in a bubble but where each persons comfort level is different. I probably take risks others would not and choose not to take some that others readily take on.

i was thinking that sounded logical, but sometimes i just need outside input. i don't know anyone offline w/celiac or gluten intolerance and the family already thinks i'm way over cautious, so it gets hard to know what is a risk and what isn't. (still new to this) :D

going to have a latte tomorrw :)

I have asked for a fresh lid one time. The same person who took the pastry out and took our money, got my cup of coffee, which is normal for a cup of coffee. I went over to the person making the lattes and asked for a clean lid.

I usually don't worry about it, and I always order inside. It's a matter of principle, if I'm paying that much for coffee, someone is going to smile and be nice!! :P

What exactly can we have at Starbucks? I used to go there regularly for their Caramel Frappes but stopped as I assumed they would have gluten in them.

Go ahead and indulge :) Caramel Fraps are gluten-free. However you do need to be careful. Some Starbucks make a brownie or cookie mixed drink. Always ask and if they do ask for a clean mixer.

I've never gotten sick but I actually take a little glance at the lid at both Starbucks and Dunkin Dounuts whenever I get tea. You're not crazy for thinking about the possibility; I do too. ;)

      Pathology results - coeliac positive?

      Thanks so much for replying!  No I haven't been limiting gluten prior to this test, I didn't know the Dr even tested for it until I got my results. These were the only celiac related pathology that was tested for. I am seeing my Dr on Monday so hopefully she can shed some more light!

      New here as well lots of things learning I’ve discovered lots of foods have sneaky gluten so be mindful how is it going?? I have issues when I do cocktails 🍸 I don’t know if it is gluten free or not but get horrible side effects and so many others ooh well we are all learning how to cope with this….

      Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

      Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

      I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
