Ooops! I had a little idiot moment

Thanks for your link Nikki to the converse, after looking at the pictures on the website I realized I don't have a pair of old converse!!!! I have an old pair of Adidas Gazelles, navy blue suede, which are also coming back in style. I see a pair is going for over $100 on eBay, hmmm, maybe I should sell mine...

*EDIT- I see that is was Patti who put up the link for the converse, sorry Patti, anyway, hi Nikki

Hi Patti, you are right, the converse are back in style too, everything is coming back in style! The leggings  What is next? We should never throw anything away- just keep it until it comes back around. I like your flower picture but agree it was nice to see your smiling face :)

Stephanie- I remember vans! I had a pair too like in 4th or 5th grade. I think mine were pink, I really liked them.

Judy I am so sorry that you are not feeling well today, darn it! You were having such a great day yesterday too. I agree with everyone else try to get out if you feel up to it even for just 5-10 minutes and get some fresh air and soak up the sun. Even if it is just to sit in your garden... Feel better soon :)

Rachel, I would love to see the toilet picture too  Carla is right, we have heard you talk about it so much that at this point you have to show us!!

Carla, how are you feeling? Any better? Tell Morgan hello :)

Tavi, I was also going to ask, is there a possibility you could move closer to your kids??

I am doing somewhat better today. Actually a lot better, but still not my normal self. I had my second acpupuncture today, and it was after that that I started feeling better. Seems weird to me that acupuncture would work, but I was at the point where I would try almost anything!! Come to think of it, letting someone stick pins in you is less weird than letting someone stick a camera up your ... :P

I always loved how I felt after Accupuncture. Very relaxed. (Except the very first time--I felt queasy all the way home!) But after that, always good :D

Glad it's doing well for you so far, Carla :)

Good to hear you are doing a little better. I go to acupuncture as well and I enjoy it. I think it really helps me. Hope you continue to be on an upswing :)

converses are the only shoes that fit me right, whenever my mom sees a new color at nordstorms she buys it for me! I have worn them since I was like 7 starting out in the kids one now i have a LOT more and the 10 i have all are size 7, i give the old ones that don't fit me to the girls i babysit.

me encanta los converses

i really like the ones that you design yourself really fun and a waste of tiem

for giants games i designed ones for me and my mom that are all orange with the workds 'orangest fans' on the inside of them and have black laces, they really fit for us cause we dress all in orange every time!

Oh Judy--I'm so sorry about the garden club :( I know how you were looking forward to getting back there. I seem to remember you having trouble with Hershey's before--maybe it was that. Hershey's gets me every time--I think we must be sensitive to the CC from there. Or maybe the crackers

Don't be sad--go outside on this beautiful (for a change!) day, and make your gardens even more beautiful than they already are :D Set your sights on the next meeting--you've come so far, you'll get there for sure!! ;)

I took that other pic down--I looked ticked off in it, once I saw it up on the board, I didn't want people to think I was unfriendly

Patti, I liked that picture. Thought you looked like a teenager. :)

Hi Eeveryone- Just wanted to pop in and say hello!

So many things going on..... Judy- I hope you feel better soon. You've been through the wringer this summer. Fall is a good time for a change! I, for one, am looking forward to the cooler, less humid weather and some pretty colors. Get outside and enjoy and ((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))

Patti- I miss seeing your face though- you, unfriendly? NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crocs, converse, Birkenstocks. So many shoes, so little time! I LOVED crocs when I first saw them but then all of my students started wearing them and they looked too "hip" for me. But knowing how comfy they are and they don't smell- I may have to get some. Periwinkle please!

Chelsea- I take it your gluten challenge is over????? I hope you're healing.

I just got back from a 5 day vacation with my family in Maine. 1 father, 1 sister, 2 husbnads, 2 nieces and 1 Doberman does NOT equal relaxation. I need a vaction to recover from my vacation. But my sister and i snuck off and got our noses pierced 9little diamond studs) I've wanted to do it forever!!!!!

Still living with the in-laws. have been living out of a suitcase for a month now. But the weird things is I feel better physically and mentally than I have since this whole thing started. I've gotten glutened once since moving in here, but my MIL is really careful. we start looking for houses tomorrow. If we haven't found one by october 1st, we'll get an aprtment. Living with in-laws not conducive to making babies (even though my husband claims they are deaf :P ).

Anyway, I've been missing you all and will pop in as much as I can. Love and hugs to all, Beverly

I can't sleep so I thought I would see if anyone was awake :)

I can't move right now to be closer to 2 of my kids at this time, job etc. and still have a daughter here. But thanks for asking Julie. I guess all things will come to pass, I am just having a hard time letting go. I have always defined myself as a mom and so now I am at a loss

:lol: Bev,that gave me a good laugh!!I can see it's ahem perhaps not the most ideal of situations!

Good luck with the house hunting.

Nose piercing eh-(you rebel).I always fancied that, but hubby wasn't keen. For a while I also fancied getting my belly button pierced-but chickened out and now I think I'm just too old to be showing my midriff off!!

How can you not be hip enough for crocs-you have a nose piercing??!!

Tavi-sorry you're feeling so down.I sometimes wonder what I'll do with myself when the kids are offhand (even though they drive me mad)

So much of my time is spent doing stuff for them,I reckon I'll be feeling pretty lost too when the time comes.

I have pondered on going back to work( maybe partime)-I'm sure I'll need to do something,or even go back to college and do a course??? :)

Judy-I loved your avatar, where's it gone?Hope you are feeling better soon :)

Chelsea-Have you had your biopsy??

Patti-need I add to all the other comments-you are sooo not unfriendly.(I actually liked that picture!)

Back to shoes-I love Birkenstocks but I can't wear them :(

I have terrible trouble with my ugly feet!!

I have what I call anorexic feet-they are skinny & bony (hubby says I have toes like fingers they are so long!)

My friend has some like flip flops but the thick sole-but I can't wear anything with a toe post.I get blisters between the toes and my toes hang over the edge of the sole like a bird hanging on to it's perch!!

Patti- are yours like these??

I'm really glad that you're feeling better out of that apt. Whatever it was there that was making you so sick--good riddence to it :D

We lived with my in-laws for several months once while we were waiting for a new house to be completed. We already had our 2 kids, but I do remember feeling a little "funny" about doing certain things ;) while we lived there! I understand completely...

Good luck on the house hunting--how exciting. I know you're busy--fill us in when you can. :)

I am just having a hard time letting go. I have always defined myself as a mom and so now I am at a loss

Sorry Tavi--I also define myself as a mom. It's got to be hard having your child move far away. I'm lucky so far--my older son moved about 10 minutes away from us, and the younger one is still here--my husband says (jokingly) that he'll never leave because he's got it so good here

No, I don't have any of the thongs (yet!) I have some of the double strap, cris cross, and another novelty strap style that is kind of a swirl. They're so comfy--they feel like I'm barefoot, but with support!

Yeah, my challenge and biopsy is long over! I've been on WW and gluten-free for almost 3 weeks! The biopsy came back normal, but the dr's want me gluten-free regardless...I live in the twilight zone

On the upside - Figured out that the horrible stomach pain is migraines (stomach hurts instead of head) so I'm on a preventative for that, and I've lost 10 lbs! WAHOO!!!

1/3 of the challenge weight gone, 2/3 more to go <_<

jerseyangel Proficient

Hey Chelsea--that's great news! I had a feeling that once you were off the gluten again, the weight would come off.

So, the preventative meds are working for the stomach migranes? I guess only time will tell with that.

Thanks everyone! I soooo love you all. You guys are always there.

10 friends (?) knew I was coming to garden club..did anyone call to see if i was alive or dead..nope...not a pitty party here..just the final realization that 're-enty' into my old active life will be different. It's amazing to me that people you thought were good friends just ' drop by the way-side' when you get so sick. I treasure and value my friendships and this action just never ceases to amaze me...

Ok, onward and forward into the 'sunny day'

did some quotes from those of you commenting as i knew i'd forget. I am keeping my fingers, toes, and legs crossed and going swimming in 10 mins :o:blink::unsure:;) think the big "D" will leave me alone??? ;) Should be ok as have been since dinner last nite. all i ate for 24 hrs.

Judy- I am so sorry to hear that you havent been feeling well. I hope you feel better soon. The weather is getting better, not too hot, not too cold.I am still on the look out for the Crocs. I havent seen them and I am trying to get it out of my dad where he bought them so I can go and get them.

Stephanie. thanks, love this kinda weather too. Maybe go on the website posted earlier and they'll list places that sell them.

Judy,What is the garden club? I'm sorry you missed it and I hope you feel better. Just getting outside in the fresh air can do wonders. :)

Rachel, the garden club is a group of 50 women who like me, like to get down and dirty in the dirt..no frilly hats and while gloves for us. share info and plants. we're a part of National garden clubs org...

Rachel, I vote for you and the toilet. After telling us all about this picture, you really need to show it to us! Plus, it's a very appropriate place to have a picture of a toilet!

CalraB agree toilet behind Rachel is so 'appropriate' on this site. i want to see the picture. Calra, so glad the acupuncture is working..loved the 'better than' quote.

Patti.

Those Crocs sound perfect for gardening/working outside. I'm gonna look into a pair!

YOU'LL LOVE THEM I PROMISE.

Hi Judy :D

Your post made perfect sense to me!

I think you better uncross your fingers, toes and legs *before* you go swimming! I think it'll work better that way

Have a good time--talk to you later! B)

Judy, sorry your friends didn't call or anything. That gets disappointing. It helps me to expect nothing, then when someone does something, it's really a pleasant surprise! I find that more people on this board care for how I'm doing than anywhere! I think there's something about being sick, it makes us understand how important it is that we care about others. Those who are healthy, just don't think about it.

Green12 Enthusiast

Hi Beverly, so good to hear from you :) I'm glad you and your husband are out of that apartment and feeling better. Good luck with the house hunting!

Tavi, I'm also sorry you are down. I am one to try to take a negative and turn it in to a positive :), so my thought is you can still be "close" even across all the miles, thanks to all the technology today, free cell phone minutes, e-mail, etc, and visit every chance you can. I know it's not the same as being there, but it's something. You will always be MOM, no matter where you are!!

Hi Picard, long time no see :)

Chels- congrats on the 10 lbs, that's great.

Judy, I hope you have a much better day today, I agree with Carla that people who aren't sick just don't understand. That is why this place is so great, lots of caring and supportive people :) Hope it went well at swimming.

Nikki- I also get blisters really easily and can't wear just anything on my feet, in fact most shoes just rip my feet up with cuts and etc, in the areas that they rub against.

Hi everyone. :)

Bev....totally cool that you got your nose pierced! I've always thought the really tiny diamond studs were so cute. I got 2 extra ear piercings when I was a teenager and I was the biggest baby about it. The lady had kind of missed the first time and scratched my ear...I saw blood and thats about all I remember.

Judy, the garden club sounds fun. Sorry that you're friends showed lack of concern...I'm sure we can all relate to that. I agree that most people cant understand unless they've experienced it themselves. :(

Tavi

I'm not a mom so cant say I know exactly how you feel but I *can* give you hugs. :)

{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

My mom says motherhood is stressful...the worrying never ends...if she could go back she'd never have kids. I've been stressing her out since I was born I think...she wishes she could give me back but its too late....after 34 years she's pretty much stuck with me.

Chelse

Congrats on the weight loss!!

I cant crop the toilet out of my pic....I'm directly in front of it. I was just kneeling in front of the "potty" picking something up off the floor when my mom took the pic that she now calls her "favorite". I dont think theres any mistaking the toilet in the background though.

Maybe I'll put it up and see if anyone comments on the toilet behind my head!:lol:

If you mean continueing on Gluten Free my answer is yes.  She showed significant improvement in her behavior and that translates to a happy family.  Do get her tested as sooon as you can.  You might want to investigate genetic testing for Celiac Disease.  Children recover more quickly than adults.  It took my son about 6 months on Nutramigen before going to regular food, gluten free.  Blood tests are not always accurate in very young children. You may be advised to see a gastroenterologist instead of relying on blood tests results. Logic: She is better off gluten than before.  Wheat flour has no nutritional value and has an omega 6: omega 3 ratio of 22:1.  Our bodies do better at 3:1.  Omega 6 causes inflammation. When my son was diagnosed, back in 1976, his doctor recommended my wife and I also go gluten free.  We declined and lived to regret it.  I started GFD at 63 and have spent the last 10 years undoing the damage, some of my symptons went all the way back to my childhood and things I lived with all my life got better.
    • Wheatwacked
Hi @Nicbent35,             When my son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease when he was weaned, so I understand your frustration.       With improvement so dramatic, it cannot be a coincedence. Get her to the doctor and tell the story and insist on testing.  In the meantime, though, continue on GFD.  Her health is more important than convincing a doctor.  Bring videos of her behaviors if you can.  Even if the blood tests and biopsy prove negative, that is part of the diagnosis process for NCGS and later when she is recovered you can always do a Gluten Challenge.      This is an important time in her developement.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption syndrome, leading to malnutrition, regardles of what she eats.  Though NCGS may not cause malabsorption, it will affect food choices which can lead to malnutrition.  There may be benifits that an official diagnosis may have, but they don't trump a healthy child.      Get her healthy, then worry about validation later.  Celiac Disease is difficult to diagnosed, especially in children, because doctors look for antibodies in the blood and young children have immature immune systems.  Also you don't mention any gastrologic symtoms and celiac disease is traditionally considered gastrolic only.  Not true.  There are over 200 symptom that celiac disease and the accompaning malnutrion mimics or causes that often causes misdiagnosis and delay in recovery. While at the doctors, ask them about vitamin D deficiency and Iodine deficiency in particular. Milk being the primary source of iodine in the diet, but concerns exist regarding the lower iodine content in organic milk and reduced milk consumption in certain demographics.  Vitamin D deficiency is 40% of the industrialized population and a recent study in the Great Britain showed a wopping 60%, beaten only by some areas of Canada at 70%. And B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6.  Deficiencies in these are common in untreated Celiac Disease and they affect energy production. Are You Confused About Your Celiac Disease Lab Results?
    • knitty kitty
@plumbago, Are you taking any folate with your B12?   Folate helps regulate HDL levels.  You may try taking a methylfolate supplement with your B12.   If there's a folate deficiency because you aren't absorbing sufficient folate, or have the MThF mutation causing a functional folate deficiency (methylfolate trap), you can have a functional B12 deficiency despite supplementing, resulting in HDL levels not getting regulated, but running high or low.   Pushing the envelope in explanations, too. P. S. Are you taking a B Complex?  Folate and B12 Cobalamine need enzymes made from B6 Pyridoxine's interaction with Thiamine, and B2 Riboflavin's interaction with Thiamine.  Is your Vitamin D low?
    • Nicbent35
Thank you for all that helpful info, does that mean it’s not a good idea to do what I’m doing? Or since it’s only been a week should I see if I could get her tested now? Would it show up still since it hasn’t been long if they tested her?
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Nicbent35! There is something called gluten withdrawal that might have come into play here as well. As strange as it might sound, gluten has some addictive properties similar to opiates and some people feel physically and emotionally out of sorts for a few weeks after it is removed from their diet. There are two recognized gluten disorders, celiac disease (aka, "gluten intolerance") and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (aka, NCGS or just "gluten sensitivity" for short). They have symptoms that overlap. The difference is that celiac disease is an autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in the small bowel lining and, over time, damages the lining of the small bowel. There are specialized blood antibody tests that have been developed for diagnosing celiac disease. NCGS, on the other hand, does not damage the lining of the small bowel. No tests are yet available for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out in order to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS but NCGS is 10x more common than celiac disease. Please be aware that if your daughter is on a gluten free diet, the celiac disease blood antibody tests will not give valid results. For the testing to be valid, she would need to have been eating normal amounts of gluten for weeks/months leading up to the day of the blood draw. If you remove gluten from her diet as an experiment, valid testing can be done later on but she would need to be restarted on gluten for weeks/months ahead of the blood draw. Also be aware that once on a gluten free diet, restarting gluten can produce more severe symptoms because all tolerance may have been lost.
