Hi everyone...

I am new here and a newly diagnosed celiac. I posted a long rant under the post diagnosis section. I don't even know if im using this forum correctly.

I have been gluten free for almost a month and my stomach still hurts me at least once a week. I have no idea what normal even feels like since I've been sick since forever. I know that everyone's healing time is different but how long will it take for me to feel some relief? I thought that I was feeling better right after I was diagnosed but I still feel yucky. I am always feeling foggy and im so anxious about eating anything i do not prepare myself. Sometimes I feel like my anxiety causes my glutened feelings.

Hi Marissa, and welcome to the board :)

There really is no answer as to how long before you'll get relief. A lot of people feel much better right away, and then--for a variety of reasons--backslide to having some of their symptoms again.

For me, it took a good 3 months before I was having more good days than bad. Anxiety is a symptom of Celiac, and it's one of the things that always comes back when I've been glutened.

Stomach pain about once a week, and the brain fog and anxiety about getting glutened are pretty normal for a month gluten-free. Healing your intestine takes time--sometimes the symptoms can be from the healing process itself.

Make sure that you check everything you use--your personal care products, vitamins and medicines for gluten. Watch out for cross contamination in the kitchen. Eating out, for the first few months, should be kept to a minimum--until you get a real handle on the diet, and are feeling better.

Are you eating dairy products? They can be a problem while the villi are trying to heal.

Good luck with everything--it gets easier, I promise! :D

I am so sorry you are still feeling bad. Is there any chance that you are still getting gluten? It's so hard to eliminate it and you have to get rid of 100%.

Your age and the amont of damage your intestines sustained play a role I am sure. My 5 year old was like a new child within just a few days. Her D disappeared almost instantly and her energy level and appetite shot through the roof. I know children heal very quickly though. She had been extremely sick, but only for about 8 months. Her IGa was well over 100....

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Hello there, it's been ages since I signed into this account. Wanted to see if there were other celiac patients that have gone through perimenopause/menopause and chose to take estrogen or wear an estrogen patch? I know all of our bodies are different but curious how it went or is going for you. Thanks so much.

I believe I've seen them at Costco still in the shells (in the frozen seafood area), which might be a safe way to go.

A dedicated rack is a great idea if everyone in the house understands and supports the idea, and just to clarify, I didn't recommend just wiping the rack down, but washing it well in soap and hot water.

Thanks, I appreciate you getting back to me.  Sometimes the retailers don't have content info on products they sell and they have rewrapped them with no ingredients list. Guess I'll stick to prepackaged medalions with all the info.

I find that I sometimes have symptoms due to cross-contact with foods that *might* be contaminated in the processing. 100% gluten-free certification is something I look for in every processed food I consume.
