Hey! My name is Adelle, and I'm from salem, oregon. Ummmm..... What should I say?? I'm soooooo glad to have found ya'll!!!! I have been getting progressively weaker for the past 6 years (I'm 22 now). I have been close to bedbound from pain and fatigue. 9 docs have either given up or said it was a "mental thing". I finally took charge of my health and googled my symptoms. I cut gluten out and in 4 days I felt better than I had in a year. My doc (#10) did the blood test, I'm at his office waiting for the official word, but his office called telling me to stay on the diet! I feel incredible! I am now a certified equine massage therapist (yay!) and I'm practically going insane from all the energy. I'm married and my hubby is going gluten free too (how swet!). My fam is great (keeping food I can eat there, adjusting thanksgiving etc). This feels like a miracle. Ahhhhh yay!

Welcome to the forum. Just remember that we do not consider any question stupid. That is great that doctor #10 listened to you and ran the blood tests. That is totally awesome.

Howdy hi!

I'm happy to hear that you found the problem and are feeling better. I'm kinda new here too and have found this to be the greatest place for information and support. :)

Hi, I am from salem also! Wow there really is someone else in this town with celiac....If you don't mind me asking, are you seeing a gi? I see Dr. Em at salem gastroenterology, he's awesome. I actually only had to see him twice before diagnosed, imagine that! My family doctor is the stubborn moron, he's over at the salem clinic, I'm looking to change that soon. I saw him about 6 times over a period of a year and a half before he even gave me a refferal, that I had to ask for. Well, welcome to the group, if I find any good gluten-free stuff here in town I'll be sure to share, or don't hesitate to ask....Julie

No I'm not seeing a GI yet, I did about 4.5 years ago. He said I was, "just fine". So I really don't want to see another doc, yet. Yay more people in salem!! I'm me or something sometime :). Anyway, I'm so happy to find a place like this. I just got a bread maker today. Mmmm gluten-free sandwiches. Well, I have nothing else to say. Thanks for bein here ya'll!

Welcome Adelle:

I just wanted to add that the poster "Nini" has a gluten free startes list, that has lots of great information for those begining the diet. Just remember, being gluten free, is not all about food. Gluten can be found the shampoos, soap, cat food, dog food, face creams and and basically anything that can get into your mouth.

Do a members search for her name and personal message her and it will be there for you.

Again, welcome to the world of Celiacland.

Hi,

I am really impressed that you were able to find out on your own. Also that you feel confident that the diet is your answer. Just keep listening to your body. Having a spouse willing to support you makes all the difference. I feel 100% that you will continue to progress. My wife supported my diet and our home is gluten free. Good luck and welcome. Your success is our success!

I know I'm uber lucky! Yay! So far things are going well (3.5 weeks!). Someone mentioned to look in unexpected stuff, all clear, I randomly got lucky with my bath products, I already cleared/washed the cupboards. But I forgot to check my guinea pig food! I have 2 piggies, boudika and maeve. Their food contains wheat. Oh no! I can't just not feed them. Luckily ryan (my husband) volunteered to feed them (and buy the food etc) so I don't have to touch it! I also work with horses (many of whom eat oats), so I'l have to wash my hands a ton and be extra careful. Anyway I feel so welcomed! Yay!

Conragtulations on finding the site. I too was only diagnosed recently. August 16th to be exact. I was on vacation at the beach and got a call from the doctors office...Happy Birthday, I know your on vacation so enjoy the sun...By the way, stop eating all wheat and products containing gluten bacause that's what has been making you sick for the last 4 months!!! Not the perfect way or day to find out but what can ya do? I've been gluten free since 3 days after that and I feel so much better. So......Welcome, Welcome, Welcome and hang in there!

I am not taking anything except for the multivitamins that I purchased from the supermarket.

The critic acid and sodium citrate is corn unfortunately and they don’t have to label corn because it’s not part of the top 9 allergen and not mandatory 😭

Yaya, from the JAMA study you refer to: "Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity." No one on this forum is recommending  taking anywhere near that amount. We're talking about 5-10,000IU daily.

"Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while someone is taking high doses of vitamin D." Quoted from the Healthline article @Yaya linked above...
