Beverly -- it's good to see you back -- I'm glad you're moving even thought it's such a stressful thing!

oh you guys....House of Terror is an awful, awful story...don't want to take over this thread....actually would require more like a book to tell what happened and how it changed my life - no, changed ME forever - and not in good ways.

(edited - I posted about it and then TOOK IT OFF!!! it's Bev's thread!!) :)

Yes -Bev - puppies, bounding through the snow!! that's what you need!

We could start a new thread called House of Terrors. really. But it's not MY thread...this is a community Dingo chick!!!! Vent away (unless of course it's something you'd rather forget!).........

Puppies (gluten-free like Patti's kitty) bounding through my backyard and kissing my face........ :D:D:D

Oh, you should have left it ... I should have quoted it sooner!! I did read it.

There's a haunted house around the corner from mine. A lady I know lived there for a while because it was the only vacant house in town when they move here (wonder why!). She has all kinds of stories. A man murdered his wife there, she haunts it, but just seems to like living there. A restaurant tried to move in, but closed down. Now there's a tea shop there. My son worked there all summer and nothing happened. I think this Victorian lady might like the fact that there's a tea shop in her old house, but she definately didn't like my friend's cat.

As for the puppies ... I think they're much more work than kids!! All the dogs we've ever had were a total pain in the neck!! Not that I don't like dogs ... I think pets are good. I have birds ... they like to cuddle, but they're noisy and messy.

Well......MY House of TError was a terrible thing (Carla - you read it! ) and resulted in what we fondly know as Susie's Nervous Breakdown. Not kidding....it was the most difficult thing I've ever lived through and while I can easily talk about it, not everyone really knows how to process or deal with someone's nervous breakdown.....but I have pondered starting a perky little thread on the forum called:

"Nervous Breakdowns - Who Here Has Had One? Let's Share Our Experiences!" :) ha ha ha - didn't think it would elicit too many responses - - I am being playful here but it was beyond horrendous and I dont' think I'll ever be the same...need nothing short of a miracle for that.

As for puppies, yes Carla, so much work...but there is a book I got when I got Tika, she was 9 weeks - it's called The Art of Raising A Puppy, written by the Monks of New Skete, who raise champion German Shepards. Best book I've ever read on selecting/raising/training/care of dogs - both my dogs were house-trained within three days, and have pretty impecable manners. Took TONS of work with my older girl - she was the most wickedly playful and strong-willed dog for the first few years, anyone else would have given her away.....

Sorry Beverly that so many difficult things are going on with the people in your life and around you. You've had your fair share as well.

Susie, house of terror and nervous breakdowns? I must have missed that thread

As for puppies, I am going back and forth on getting another one. I lost mine (my 11 year old puppy ) a year and a half ago and it was so hard.

Susan, I did read it, but you didn't give much detail other than you felt every minute like you would feel if a man wearing a hockey mask and had a knife was hovering over your bed. It was like a teaser really ... I expected, tune in next week for the rest of the story!

I haven't been on in awhile and my account got deleted. But I'm baccckkk!

I just need to vent here. I just can't believe some of the things that people I know and care about are going through right now. We found this week that my good friend and old neighbor has such a rare form of blood cancer that there is NO name for it????????????WTF?????????????? It has spread to his lungs, stomach, colon and liver but since it's this unknown type of blood cancer that they can't even stage him and they have no idea what his prognosis is.

Then tonight, one of my friends in graduate school, who I had emailed for support because I'm having my exam defense on Monday and I thought I was stressed out, let me know that her baby (she's 4 months pregnant) has severe heart valve problems so they are seeing a specialist at Children's Hospital on Monday.

what is going on? I keep thinking things have just got to calm down for awhile and they never do.

Sad.

ack.. just reminded me I need to call my uncle!

Susie Girl- You CAN start a thread about Nervous Breakdowns. I'll bet there's more than one of us that for multiple reasons had had one or close to one.

I'm sorry you had such a scary experience! I do have some good news for a change today- I'll start a new thread (see I'm oficially a PhD candidate!). It, of course, was a bittersweet moment. My fourth committee member was Chelsea, the sweet doggie of one of my committee members. Right after my meeting she had to be put to sleep so it was like "Congratulations, you passed!" and then I had to say good bye to her. :( And I so wanted to call my mom. So, I told Chelsea that my mom would take good care of her when she got to Heaven.

But I want to focus on the good so I'm going to start a new thread. Life really is bittersweet.

Oh Bev....congrats to you (I posted on your other thread already) and so sad about the doggie. :( so he was there for your review, huh? is that why you passed? :)

OMG a nervous breakdown thread..yes I have at times used this forum as my online "personal" journal (that all the world can see) but that really is too much.... :o It could scare people!

If you have been eating the gluten equivalent of 4-6 slices of wheat bread daily for say, 4 weeks, I think a repeat blood test would be valid.
    • englishbunny
it did include Total Immunoglobin A which was 135, and said to be in normal range. when i did the blood test in January I would say I was on a "light' gluten diet, but def not gluten free.  I didn't have any clue about the celiac thing then.  Since then I have been eating a tonne of gluten for the purpose of the endoscopy....so I'm debating just getting my blood test redone right away to see if it has changed so I'm not waiting another month...

Welcome to the forum, @englishbunny! Did your celiac panel include a test for "Total IGA"? That is a test for IGA deficiency. If you are IGA deficient, other IGA test resultls will likely be falsely low. Were you by any chance already practicing a reduced gluten free diet when the blood draw was done?

I'm upset & confused and really need help finding a new gastro who specializes in celiac in California.  Also will welcome any insights on my results. I tested with an isolated positive for deamidated IGA a few months ago (it was 124.3, all other values on celiac panel <1.0), I also have low ferritin and Hashimotos. Mild gastro symptoms which don't seem to get significantly worse with gluten but I can't really tell... my main issues being extreme fatigue and joint pain. The celiac panel was done by my endocrinologist to try and get to the bottom of my fatigue and I was shocked to have a positive result. Just got negative biposy result from endoscopy. Doctor only took two biopsies from small intestine (from an area that appeared red), and both are normal. Problem is his Physician's Assistant can't give me an answer whether I have celiac or not, or what possible reason I might have for having positive antibodies if I don't have it. She wants me to retest bloods in a month and says in the meantime to either "eat gluten or not, it's up to you, but your bloodwork won't be accurate if you don't" I asked if it could be I have early stage celiac so the damage is patchy and missed by only having two samples taken, and she said doctor would've seen damaged areas when performing endoscopy (?) and that it's a good sign if my whole intestine isn't damaged all over, so even if there is spotty damage I am fine.  This doesn't exactly seem satisfactory, and seems to be contrary to so much of the reading and research I have done. I haven't seen the doctor except at my endoscopy, and he was pretty arrogant and didn't take much time to talk. I can't see him or even talk to him for another month. I'm really confused about what I should do. I don't want to just "wait and see" if I have celiac and do real damage in the meantime. Because I know celiac is more that just 'not eating bread' and if I am going to make such a huge lifestyle adjustment I need an actual diagnosis. So in summary I want to find another doctor in CA, preferably Los Angeles but I don't care at this stage if they can do telehealth! I just need some real answers from someone who doesn't talk in riddles. So recommendations would be highly welcomed. I have Blue Shield CA insurance, loads of gastros in LA don’t take insurance at all 😣

Okay, Lori, we can agree on the term "gluten-like". My concern here is that you and other celiacs who do experience celiac reactions to other grains besides wheat, barley and rye are trying to make this normative for the whole celiac community when it isn't. And using the term "gluten" to refer to these other grain proteins is going to be confusing to new celiacs trying to figure out what grains they actually do need to avoid and which they don't. Your experience is not normative so please don't proselytize as if it were.
