Last night- my cat got excited to see moles in the backyard--he pulled down the curtins in the kitchen window---fell into the sink with the curtins on top of dirty dishes, whilst tangled up inside them....This morning I come down to find more signs of an excited active cat and then come into the kitchen and he is sprawled out on the counter and just looking at me--like it is fine to be lounging on the counter to begin with.

The other night I made this gluten dreams vanilla cake and topped it with strawberry icing. There is about 1/2 the cake left and it was covered on the counter-he had got into that and pawed it up so I have pink paw prints on the counter tops.....The cake went into the trash....Was it a full moon or something????

I think Allo is getting the hang of this travelling :D He washed up and napped on and off all day in the car, and tonight he ate, drank water, checked out the room, found his litter box and nary a meow from him. Hopephully, this behavior will continue over night..... We don't need any nocturnal hyjinks.....at least of the feline variety

noctural hyjinks!!!!! guffawed last night when I read this.......

Yes, Allo, the traveler ;) jaunty cat.....

makes me larph to think - - Kitteh was just sooooooooooooo overjoyed and happy and in LOVE with us when he got here - - could not kiss me/rub my face/try to snuggle enough (I was his hero and rescuer, after all), and, remember, I was kind of annoyed with him when he got here, and could not handle his mysterious STINK?

he's becoming just ever-so-slightly less affectionate - big, "mature" teenaged boy Kitteh, full of antics.....now I am pretty sure he just sees me as the big interference for all of his ruinous fun and hyjinks <_<

Amanda - I can't even IMAGINE leaving a cake on the counter with pink, or any kind, of icing   that would be EVERYWHERE - when I made those evil brownies, had to store them in the kitteh-proof microwave......

but just love the picture of Lucky in the sink tangled with curtains and dishes

I seriously need some nocturnal hijinks, and not of the feline variety.

*snooooooort* I know, I'm with you on that

yer boss - - I think I need to come in there and......I'll have a small screaming match with him, as I do in my office with MY boss.......lightens the tension and puts them in their place, by gum

Hey Sillies . . . past me bedtime. Got an email from Lisa that I forwarded. She needs some distraction. She needs a scarf that looks like boobs. She needs some wackl . . . so get busy forwarding those innapropriate funny bits that come in from your coworkers, family members, and friends.

send her the boob scarf - I know she wants some, also

[still catching up . .. . I think . .. .saw last few pages .. . ]

Oh ya .. .NCIS ... thought last ep not as good as many but the "Israeli" is . ..Brazilian is it? Peruvian? Nah I'll go w/ Brasil.

is she Brazillian? she was rattling off in very fast and phluent Spanish the other night....I think she is ADORABLE and do love the SEXUAL TENSION between her and Dinuzzo......that's about the only reason I watch it *snort*

WHAAAAT?!?! in March??....are you sure Phoenix isn't a 'euphemism' for Hell?!?!

Yes, and FREZNO is too <_<

How's yer man phlughue, Nik???

oops - just heard a very loud CONK - must investigate -

okay - all is well - Kitteh has an OBSESSION with the blinds - wedges his body between the slats as often as he can - gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hmm, nocturnal hijinks w' me boss. But everything would end with 'great, now could you....'

Judith and Tea, how's the yard work coming along?

Off to museums and such....saw Jersey Boys last night........Sooooooze, you'd have walked out. It was that good. .. . . ..

:o would have stabbed myself with......a butter knife...............

sillies dunno what else.................FABULOUS spring day here with a veil of clouds over the sky.............LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! going to play with me mum today...........what should we do........I am thinking a glamorous, tasty lunch somewhere..........

.....but where.......... <_<

Sillies, I'm groing my hair out . . . a bit . . . it's drivin' me nuts. I think I'm gonna have to get it cut . . . I can nae take it no more!!! I need to put up an av of Smackl. He's been growing his hair out since the beginning of school (August). Has had only one "trim/shape up". We're starting to get a LOT of comments. Don't know if people really think it's a hoot (that's what they tell us) or if they're thinking . . . My gawd, what kind of parents are they that let him grow his hair like that!!! I told him that his hair wouldn't grow long, it would grow big . . . which is what it's done . . . it's not in his eyes, at least. You'll see. I'll post a photo.

OMG sillies--- here is the professional office humor of the day---which is real!!!!

Two days ago my boss asked me to change her printer cartridge. I said sure. Then she goes on to tell me that I should know where Jane *name changed* (ditsy assistant) keeps spare cartridges...I looked at my boss funny and said we don't keep spares...At 150 a pop we don't keep spares on hand-Plus we all have different printers so its not logical-plus when your cartidge is half empty the printer tells you to order more....So I come into her office and tell her I can put one of the list for her and when Jane comes back from vacation next week she can order more. My boss looks at me and says does that mean I have to wait? in my head after the last two hellish weeks at work due to the audit prep I am thinking to myself--well I don't have the ability to just crap one out so you got to wait...def would not say those words to her--she is a very scary woman....

Yesterday morning she starts whining about the cartridge again then procedes to ask me if I am able to order supplies---no and neither is any one else. Finally we ordered one for her through our other dept on the 6th floor.

Today it came in and I took it into her office-and assembled it into the printer for her. She then tells me she wishes she had a color printer....Sillies I must tell ya at this point I am just floored....She has a huge Laser Jet color printer/fax/copy all in one whoesywhatsy. I tell her it is a color printer-no its not is her response--I know it is a color printer I installed the color cartridges on it....she looks at me oddly again.... Then I had to show her how to print in color-she had her computer to force black and white print.....

This is what I deal with everyday.....How did some people get this far in life........ believe me this is causing laughs full circle but you know if this is all you need to be a boss heck I can be president!

Well, I am indeed museum-ed out. Um, call me jaded.....hey, call me old, but somehow every museum I walk into now seems exactly the same as the one before. .. ... . . ...fossils, dinos, flora and fauna evolution, primitive cultures and their tools. . . . . .....-_-

I need to walk into a new, exciting museum. There is a huge shoe museum not far from here (sounds about as fascinating as the neolithic flint arrow tips)... . .... . and the Hockey Hall of Fame..... .. ... .

yep we thinking of moving

Just didn't wantt to say anything.

Some of you know the 'funk' i've been in and some of the health issues and of course the biggie.......

not being close to our son for like 9 years.

It's just getting to me.

I need some sun, warm weather, one floor and some dirt i can dig in that's flat and not on a hill.

When you type it, it somehow makes it all more real

Changing Drs, dentists etc. all just add to the stress but in CA i felt so much better in that climate.

so .......we'll see and i'll keep you posted.

Patti is blazing the trail for me.

hope she didn't have fog all the way to Huston like she was thinking.

Guess tonight she'll be in the motel/hotel/condo/ Mark is staying in.

forget what she said it was.

will be good to hear from her when she checks in tonight.

thanks for the kind thoughts and thanks for caring.

Hey, look what I got for Skeeter:

Open Original Shared Link

'cept I got a four pack and it was $5.00 at Bed Bath and Beyond. They basically make a push up pop. I bought toppings so we could make layers . . . yum . . . :droolyphace:

She wasn't too much of an ice cream cone person before (was it because it upset her tummy?) and I'm too much of a cheapa$$ to buy the $9.00 box of gluten-free ice cream cones which had 8 cones in it (everytime we try some new prepackaged item, there's probably a better than 50% chance that she won't like it). So I've had these since Monday and she's been hounding me to do it. On Tuesday, I said we would do them on Thursday . . . so immediately upon exitting the school bus "Mom, when are we going to make the cones?" . . . Me: "Later". Everytime I walked into the kitchen . . . Skeeter: "Now?" . . . Me: "Later" . . . even Smackl noticed the nagging . . . Smackl: "Jeesh, Skeeter, can't you say anything else?" (Ummmm, he doesn't actually call her Skeeter :lol: )

So . . . it's done . . . and now the new question . . . "How much longer until we can eat them?" . . . GAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I am in utter disbelief about Natasha Richardson- unreal. Just watched her in maid in Manhattan last week! Right before I joined the board I had a similar ski accident- going very slowly on a beginner trail. When I fell, I heard a snap but figured nuttin cause me neck always cracks. Waited ten days to go to the ER (symptoms got progressively worse). It was my neck but I can't tell you how many nurses attacked me with don't EVER wait to go to the ER if you hurt your head or neck. Poor Liam Neeson.

Allo and PadT n the road (oh no.... Willie Nelson just popped into me head "On the road again, going places that I've never been"....... Be safe!

Oh--I ran out of phood! :P (bad, bad Celiac!).....all I had left was some bread, Enjoy Life cookies and Stax chips. So we went to the grocery store near here and bought OM pre-cooked bacon, lettuce and a tomato and made BLT's in the room wif me toaster and the microwave. Pretty darn (sorry Jan-it) good, I have to say :D

Yum- road BLT's! Good thinking!

Well, since no one's silly, I'll post a little whiny rant.

JUDITH- HOLY Temecula- I missed the town name. Oh..so beautiful! I spent a semester at San Diego State ( we used to have an exchange program with them- more like a beach exchange!). I went up to Callaway Vineyards in Temecula for a day with a group of friends and it was MAGICAL.

We got wine, cheese and crackers (pre-gluten-free) and climbed up a very green hill and had a 6 hour picnic! By the end the two guys with us were streaking through the hillsides (mind you, I was 19 at the time!). It was one of my favorite memories!

Yes- Bevel is a wee bit sad. saw my PCP today and she thinks I might have Addison's Disease (autoimmune adrenal insufficiency- great!) :( JFK had it so at least I'm in good company!

Just a quickee pop in to say hello! Been enjoying the heck out of our weather....and I'll pay for it for days......worth it tho' :P Now we'll be back to more "seasonal temps"....can't wait fer summer B)

Manda....as the saying goes......those who can, do. Those who can't become supervisors! Makes you wonder sometimes....just how the incompetents get where they do.....and oh, they do!

Love the kitteh hijinks! Once had a cat who loved bread, of all things. Sneakers......(his name) would tear open the wrappers if I was foolish enough to leave it out..and chew away! When I was young, we had a cat who LOVED gum! He'd fish it out of my sisters pocketbook.

Hi Jude! I've found that the very hardest part of moving was leaving my gardens behind. I survived selling my house....my furniture and my junk.... but the gardens killed me. (I DID, however, bring along buckets of irises, peonies and other assorted bulbs <snickerbehindmyhandface>) I think I miss my gardens as much as I miss my family members (just don't tell)

I'll play catch up again tomorrow. Later

flourgirl Apprentice

Bev-really.....Ill keep you in my prayers, too. Right along with Lees-suh and her family, and so many others! Better days are coming, please hold on to that.

Welcome to the forum, @KRipple! Sorry to hear of all your husband's health problems. I can only imagine how anxious this makes you as when our spouse suffers we hurt right along with them. Can you post the results from the Celiac blood testing for us to look at? We would need the names of the tests run, the numeric results and (this is important) the reference ranges for each test used to establish high/low/negative/positive. Different labs use different rating scales so this is why I ask for this. There aren't industry standards. Has your husband seen any improvement from eliminating gluten from his diet? If your husband had any positive results from his celiac blood antibody testing, this is likely what triggered the consult with a  GI doc for an endoscopy. During the endoscopy, the GI doc will likely biopsy the lining of the small bowel lining to check for the damage caused by celiac disease. This would be for confirmation of the results of the blood tests and is considered the gold standard of celiac disease diagnosis. But here is some difficult information I have for you. If your husband has been gluten free already for months leading up to the endoscopy/biopsy, it will likely invalidate the biopsy and result in a false negative. Starting the gluten free diet now will allow the lining of the small bowel to begin healing and if enough healing takes place before the biopsy happens, there will be no damage to see. How far out is the endoscopy scheduled for? There still may be time for your husband to go back on gluten, what we call a "gluten challenge" to ensure valid test results.

Ive read articles that there is stage 2 research being conducted for drugs that will limit damage to celiacs through cross contamination- how close are they to this will there be enough funding to create a mainstream drug?

Hello, My husband has had issues with really bad diarreah for over nine months now. In mid November, he went to the doctor for what they thought was a bad cold, which two weeks later was diagnosed as bronchitis. A week later, in December, I had to take him back to urgent care and from there, to the emergency room cause his vitals were too low. They said he was having an Addisionan crisis and he spent five days in the ICU. Since my husband has Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome Type II (type 1 diabetes, Addison's and Hashimoto's), I fought for a blood test to determine if he had Celiacs. Given the results of the test, he was told to go to a gastro for an endoscopy. It took two months to get his first appointment with the gastro. Still waiting for the endoscopy appointment. He stopped eating gluten in the hospital and has followed a gluten-free diet since. His diarreah continues to be as bad as before he stopped eating gluten. Still has a horrible cough that makes him hack. His energy is so depleted he pretty much goes to work, comes home and goes lie in bed. He is having issues regulating body temperature. He is barely eating (he's lost 20 pounds since mid-December). Body aches. Totally run down. He has been taking more prednisone lately to try to counter the symptoms.  Today, we went to his endo to discuss these things. She said to continue taking increased amount of prednisone (even though I explained that the increased dosage is only allowing him to do the bare minimum). According to the endo, this is all related to Celiacs. I am concerned because I know that both Celiacs and Addison's can have similar symptoms, but don't know if he would still be having these many symptoms (worsening, at that) related to the Celiac's after stopping gluten two months ago. If anyone in this group has a combination of Celiacs and Addison's, could you please share your experience? I am really concerned and am feeling frustrated. His primary care provider and endocrinologist don't seem to consider this serious enough to warrant prompt attention, and we'll see about the gastro.  Thanks.

Hi @Karmmacalling I'm very sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell.  Can you tell us exactly what sort of pain you are experiencing and where the pain is?  Is it your lower abdomen, upper abdomen etc?  Do you have any other symptoms? Cristiana

The NIH article you link actually supports what I have been trying to explain to you: "Celiac disease (celiac disease) is an autoimmune-mediated enteropathy triggered by dietary gluten in genetically prone individuals. The current treatment for celiac disease is a strict lifelong gluten-free diet. However, in some celiac disease patients following a strict gluten-free diet, the symptoms do not remit. These cases may be refractory celiac disease or due to gluten contamination; however, the lack of response could be related to other dietary ingredients, such as maize, which is one of the most common alternatives to wheat used in the gluten-free diet. In some celiac disease patients, as a rare event, peptides from maize prolamins could induce a celiac-like immune response by similar or alternative pathogenic mechanisms to those used by wheat gluten peptides. This is supported by several shared features between wheat and maize prolamins and by some experimental results. Given that gluten peptides induce an immune response of the intestinal mucosa both in vivo and in vitro, peptides from maize prolamins could also be tested to determine whether they also induce a cellular immune response. Hypothetically, maize prolamins could be harmful for a very limited subgroup of celiac disease patients, especially those that are non-responsive, and if it is confirmed, they should follow, in addition to a gluten-free, a maize-free diet." Notice that those for whom it is suggested to follow a maize-free diet are a "very limited subgroup of celiac disease patients". Please don't try to make your own experience normative for the entire celiac community.  Notice also that the last part of the concluding sentence in the paragraph does not equate a gluten-free diet with a maize-free diet, it actually puts them in juxtaposition to one another. In other words, they are different but for a "limited subgroup of celiac disease patients" they produce the same or a similar reaction. You refer to celiac reactions to cereal grain prolamins as "allergic" reactions and "food sensitivity". For instance, you say, "NIH sees all these grains as in opposition to celiacs, of which I am one and that is science, not any MD with a good memory who overprescribes medications that contain known food allergens in them, of which they have zero knowledge if the patient is in fact allergic to or not, since they failed to do simple 'food sensitivity' testing" and "IF a person wants to get well, they should be the one to determine what grains they are allergic to and what grains they want to leave out, not you. I need to remind you that celiac disease is not an allergy, it is an autoimmune disorder. Neither allergy testing nor food sensitivity testing can be used to diagnose celiac disease. Allergy testing and food sensitivity testing cannot detect the antibodies produced by celiac disease in reaction to gluten ingestion.  You say of me, "You must be one of those who are only gluten intolerant . . ." Gluten intolerance is synonymous with celiac disease. You must be referring to gluten sensitivity or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). Actually, I have been officially diagnosed with celiac disease both by blood antibody testing and by endoscopy/positive biopsy. Reacting to all cereal grain prolamins does not define celiac disease. If you are intent on teaching the truth, please get it straight first.
