2 parts chocolate vodka, one part godiva chocolate liqueur. Shake over ice.

I forgot to tell you all . . . we have a weekend guest. Her name is Hoppers and she eats crickets. My daughter's friend dropped her frog off for us to take care of over the weekend. We were all pretty excited . . . but she just sits under her log . . . doesn't move around . . . not so exciting. I guess the good news is that I won't have to hear my kids beg for a frog of their own.

Big possibility that Brian will be back to work in about a week. He has a dr.'s app't next wk. Mon. and hopes to get the doc to sign a release.

Have a great trip Emily. When do you get back? We are leaving on Friday for our annual beach vacation wif friends from Cincinnati. However, this year we are going to Lake Michigan's "Beach" . . . yep, it's got a "Beach" . . . I'm using the quotes because I don't really know how good of a "Beach" it is. We'll have fun . . . always do . . . we know how to make our own alcoholic beverages fun.

Glaciers are fun, I've been on more than a few. Watch for crevasses - might be pumas down there. (wth was that smothers brothers bit?)

Gian-knit! I'll bet there'll be no need to quotify beach. There are plenty of real beaches on Lake Michigan. Not as wide as a big wide ocean beach, but good enough to unquotify. :wacko:

Hi Tom!!! Good to see youse!!! I'm thinkin' it's not going to look anything like your av!!! We are headed to a place called Beachwalk. It's officially Michigan City, Indiana . . . they've also got an outlet mall there :rolleyes:

The job ended in late April, when the contract was up. :(

I was so beyond exhausted all the time I was ready for a break, but haven't really been all that much less exhausted w/out it. :angry:

Might start again before too long ....hmmm . .. .maybe after too long. It's up in the air.

The free consult appt went well enough. Been meaning to post about it. I have a real appt for the 16th.

Some idiotic brainfog tidbits: When I made the appt, I gave them a ph# only CLOSE to mine. Duh

Filling out the forms, I actually had to check my ph addr book for my own freakin zipcode.

Haven't felt smart in toooo long.

This HealthNOW center MIGHT actually be the place Donna & the other previous Rachel go (or went).

The non-MD doc (co-author of "The Gluten Effect" book) I talked with talks a good game w.r.t. Root Causes & all. Even knew that some food effects can be 3 days later. :blink:

Looks like a stool test is in my near future. :greenguy:

On the 16th I see the MD. No idea what will come next, tho I never did have a real adrenal function test.

Sheesh ......I was SO sure this stupid journey was over in '07, once the great days stretched to 3 or 4 months.

Tis late on Sunday. Tomorrow will be the ninth anniversary of my appointment with the doctor to get the results of my biopsy. Not a surprise, but it did finally confirm what had been making me so sick for so many years.

Things for celiacs today are so much easier than they were nine years ago. I wonder what things will be like in another nine years...

Yes, it really does sound promising, Pataughmn. If it's the clinic where Donna goes, I think you'll be in good hands from everything I've heard. Hang in there and do use this time to rest. Having had that "good stretch" I'm sure just makes this all the harder on you. I'll be anxious to hear all about this next appointment. :)

I should be sleeping, but no can do. <_< Back to work tomorrow for 3 weeks of summer school....1/2 days. I won't be interpreting until regular school starts in August.

edit: It figures.........he's disappeared. Late nite psillies always seem to take off as soon as I get on.

Mornin' Peeps . . . well, we've lost Emily for the next 10 days. She should be on her way by now. Think she'll check in?? I always have good intentions when I'm gone but then just don't seem to get to it . . .

I've got less than 36 hours to read "Always Looking Up" . . . but got a pretty full schedule between now and then . . . 1st rule of book club is that you are still suppose to go for the wine and food socialization even if you don't finish the book . . . but what if I don't start the book?

Picking out trees this afternoon. Won't be planting them for about two months, but want to get the best trees they have and put them on hold. Four trees today then I think one or two more once we figure out what we are going to do in the area at the end of our drive. Can you say $$$$$$?

Horseback lessons in about 45 minutes . . . see you peeps later.

Morning Sillies

Very hard to get up after the long weekend. It was very busy for us. We went away for a bit and then we started working on our house. We did some landscaping work. We had got river rocks and put them down and then put my large lighthouse on the rocks....it looks so nice., Then the painting began. We are covering up the mint green on our brick house. There is an addition in the back and it is mint green..very ugly!

I think things are much better even from when I was diagnosed. Much more food options, many more dining out options and many items have improved greatly taste wise. Celiac is much more publized too and that helps. I am able to go to Zpizza over by Weggies and take a pizza home hot. There is a place right across from the hospital that serves gluten-free pasta and other gluten-free items. They even bake these warm gluten-free buns....yummy!

Plus Weggies keeps getting more gluten-free food.

Now we Betty Crocker too!!!

I can only dream of what things will be like when my kids are out there :)

      I must admit I've been on both sides.  Before my diagnosis, and in my ignorance, I thought all the special diets we see around us today were unnecessary and people were making a big fuss over nothing.  There is a shop in the small town where I live that sells organic and gluten free food and I used to see people walking in and buying things and thought they were being a bit ridiculous spending extra money on what I thought was a fad.  Yet since my diagnosis that shop has been a real lifesaver.  I guess It is hard for people to see the necessity of all this extra effort if they haven't experienced celiac disease personally, or observed the way gluten affects someone they love.  Honestly, I have wondered at times if I would have been as understanding had my husband been diagnosed with coeliac disease instead of me. He has been great.   It must be incredibly difficult if your close friends and family aren't supporting you.  I have read some awful stories from coeliacs where friends and families have not just been unsupportive, but go out of their way to continue serving up gluten.   In such extreme cases, where harm is actually being done, serious thought needs to be taken about removing oneself from harm's way.  That all said, I find that the world is now so full of people struggling with autoimmune illnesses now, allergies and intolerances, that people are definitely becoming more attuned to things.    Word is getting out there. In 2022 a long-running popular TV series in the UK, Doc Martin, ended with a final case: a patient being diagnosed with coeliac disease.  I don't know if anyone saw it but I was so heartened by that episode, that celiac disease was given centre stage for the last ever programme. The patient in question had been suffering from a horrible rash which turned out to be dermatitis herpetiformis. He also had anemia, felt faint and was plain exhausted.  It would have been good education to anyone watching who didn't know about the disease and they would have been left in no doubt about its seriousness and the need to follow a strict gluten-free diet.  I thought to myself as it ended, well, now, that's another piece in our campaign to make coeliac disease better understood!

      I understand your frustration about socializing while having celiac disease. I also have allergies to nuts, dairy, all forms of gluten including oats, strawberries and MSG. I get anxiety while grocery shopping and really take my time to read all labels. I always carry a magnifying glass with me wherever I go to read labels. Many products are labelled Gluten Free but contain Oats, and apparently this is becoming more common. I almost bought some gluten free flour but read that it contained oats. A certain percentage of Celiacs have this complication. I can’t help feeling offended and excluded when others act like I am being “high maintenance”. I am becoming better at being an advocate for myself.  I have had diverticulitis 3 times and each time hospitalized-once, the attending nurse didn’t know what celiac means-she had to research...  If others around me make comments I try to enlighten them, those who don’t get it are not my friends anymore. Be very careful about cross-contamination. I was sick recently for 10 days after a meal was contaminated while I was on holiday. If servers say they have gluten free buns or bread, ask if they use a toaster specifically reserved for gluten-free, or don’t chance it. On a positive note, I didn’t find out I had Celiac Disease until I was 60. Eating a gluten free diet means no more terrible headaches, hives, rashes, intestinal bloating and irregularity, Gastro Intestinal Reflux….when I follow a strict diet and mostly always eat at home, I feel great! I also weeded out “friends” who weren’t worth being around.
