In the Halloween spirit, and so Carla can catch up on her scary movies, what are some of everyone's favorite horror flicks?

"The Shining" is my #1.

Halloween - the original

The Blair Witch Project - especially scary if you spend any amount of time in the woods!

Psycho

Poltergeist

Amityville Horror

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Exorcist

It looks GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot what you decided to make it say?

Happy, happy, joy, joy? :P

Very cute, what does it say?

Happy, happy, joy, joy would've been good! Hmm maybe I'll make a few more ;)

It says "D*** I'm cute" :D:P:lol:

OMG - - okay, so it's almost impossible for me to be scared, right? and I LOVE to be scared. LOVE IT!!! so only about five or six movies in my life have actually scared the beejesus out of me.....The Shining is one of them.....must tell you, the book is even SCARIER....read it when I was about 16, and one day, was reading it in the back yard, about 6 pm, everyone was out of town.....I had to go inside, thought someone might walk up and stab me from behind, through the back gate or something.......ha ha ha ha

YOU MUST SEE THE SHINING!!!! not so much horror....just good, scary fun!!!!!! :o:o:o:P

Glad you cleared it up Richard - his name was Danny....it's been so long.........

I've never understood how some people like to be scared. Probably because I hate it :P:)

I haven't seen the shining either, I just stick with comedy films :)

DingoGirl Enthusiast

richard. Blair Witch Project SCARED you? I never even saw the whole thing.....maybe I should have stuck it out.....guess there was too much hype by the time I saw it.....

okay the only ones that scared me:

*The Omen (the original, saw it in fourth grade, at movie theatre - no, my parents didn't really care what I did that much :o )

*The Exorcist - still can't watch it

*Rosemary's Baby - creepy but not lock-the-doors terrifying

*Aliens 1 and 2 - things popping out all the time

*Hide and Seek w/ DeNiro - laughable in the beginning, mildly creepy - and then for some reason I was scared and titillated out of my mind by the ending

*and one extremely scary episode of the X-Files, had to lock my doors and turn on alarm, called "Home" with these inbred appalachians who kept their limb-less mother on a rolling thing under the bed....yowza

I think that's it........nothing else has ever been scary! But I don't really watch hacker movies either.....

Dang, Richard, I am supposed to be cleaning the house. Now stop it.

My college roommate (a psych major and sometimes psycho) always said the best place to take ladies on dates would be places where they would be excited, or places that got their adrenaline flowing (roller coasters, scary movies, bungee jumping, etc). His logic was that after a while they would begin to associate the adrenaline rush with being in his company...did I mention he was psycho? :P

BW didn't really scare me as much as creep me out (how that for a cop-out?) Did you see the end? That was brutal!

I thought I was the only one sick enough to enjoy that epi of the X-files! I love at the end when he crawls out of the car trunk  Ewwww parking w/momma :o:blink:

House cleaning is overrated!

I'll add "Seven" not really horror, more suspense, but great still - who saw the head in the box coming!

DingoGirl Enthusiast

OMG Seven....please stop polluting your brain...that was SO awful and obscene, I stopped watching after the first deadly sin, I think it was gluttony and that guy exploded from his spaghetti. I don't like UGLY UGLY movies but if they're just good and scary, without too much gore, then they are delicious!

psycho roommate.....yes, that is kind of psycho behavior....have I dated him?

CarlaB Enthusiast

Okay, I looked for it because it would be a great link, but there was a study done that showed that people who liked roller coasters liked sex because they both caused similar hormonal reactions, or something like that. I couldnt' find a link to the article ... makes me worry about my 11 year old daughter ... we live down the street from an amusement park, and my kids go several times per week ... she really likes roller coasters!! Anyway, your roommate might have been onto something.

I don't like scary movies, but my best-friend in hs took me to the theater to see the Amityville Horror. Unfortunately, my parents and sisters were out of town and our house looked JUST like the one in the movie. My room was in the basement across from the door under the stairs .... OMGosh, I was so scared that night. I don't think I saw a scary movie since then ... and I never opened that door unless I had our dog or another person with me.

To further delay your chores...

Open Original Shared Link - I really miss the X-Files

They actually banned that epi from ever airing again

Seven is pollution, but Alien(s) with all that goo and gore is ok? (i love the 1st 2 movies BTW). I really enjoyed the dark mood of the film (SEVEN)....never sunny outside, seemed like it was always raining - what's scarier than finding pictures of yourself hanging up at a serial killer's apartment - come on! :o

"Silence of the Lambs", how could i forget that gem!

Anyway, your roommate might have been onto something.

He did have a way with the ladies :P

yes, the gore in Aliens etc. doesn't make sense, my theory, does it? Except that the gross icky slimy stuff is coming from non-humans...

my best friend BOUGHT That banned X-files episode - I have enjoyed it 3 or 4 times  I did a drawing of the disfigured mother and faxed it to her one day :lol::lol: with the words"Ya cain't keep a Peacock down, boys..." and I still have the drawing, it is most accurate :P

I dunno, I think the original was pretty scary. It's sad that they have to make sequels (see Halloween H20  )

OMG I was traumatised by that episode!!! :o It seriously unnerved me 'cos it could actually be within the realms of possible..

As a teen I read all of Stephen Kings books. My Mum thought I was morbid!!!

Now, I'm a wuss- can only watch horrors in the daylight hours :lol:

I remember going to see Nightmare on Elm St as a teen. My friend & I then had to catch a bus home (it was nighttime)-she got off the bus first - I ran all the way to my door (heart thundering away!)!!!

Speaking of Mr. King, Carrie and Christine are well done as well.

This is getting off the subject of movies, but I remember when I read "Thinner" by Stephen King--I literally stayed up all night to finish it. I could not put it down--it was freaky :o

I don't know what it was about the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but they didn't bother me so much. Maybe it was because I watched them all back to back with a big group of us together, with our boyfriends, and with the lights on  And everyone in the room would announce what was coming so I guess it took the suspense out of it.....

There was this old movie, I think Vincent Price was in it, and he had a wax museum. Turns out they were putting live people under the wax  , that totally creeped me out.

But even Dateline stories creep me out  The other night they featured a horrid murder committed by two teens and it has bothered me ever since...

Oooh reminds me, has anyone seen The Haunting series on the discovery network?? Big mistake for me, I saw the one where the family lived in a former funeral home, OMG, didn't sleep again for months.

The Dateline things......and all the new crazy murder methods on all the CSI series? they only make me FURIOUS because I think they give teens and crazy people IDEAS on new ways to kill people.:angry::angry:

okay....serious moment over now.

Julie - - OMG I rent scary movies when I know for sure no one is watchign it wtih me to GET scared - never happens! But I am very weird....oh the stories I could tell you - my girlfriends used to call ME in middle of night if they were scared and didn't have a boyfriend at the time.....and I would grab my Iriquois Skull Crusher and run on over, excited to fight the crime.......could have gotten myself killed SO many times..... :o

The one I just watched was heinous...

Richard, I have the same problem. I am soooo curious about these shows because I want to see, but I know if I do I will regret it  like the Haunting one.

Did any of you ever see those shows, MTV had one, and maybe FX or the Family channel (yes, the family channel  ) where they throw a group of people in places known to be haunted?? I used to watch when MTV had it on, I couldn't help myself  . They would tell the history of the place, why it was haunted, and that would be enough to freak me out. Then each person had to go out separately by themselves and stay in a designated loaction, like say a room where 100 people were known to be tortured and murdered. Last one standing won some prize or something, usually nobody would be left they were all so scared.

Yep, that's about as scarey as I can take!

 Donna, me too.

It surprises me I am even in this thread discussing theses things, I am such a big scardie cat

Scaredy Cat Julie - - OMG I can't even believe the things they COME UP with for shows! this is crazy! of course I would do it, not a problem.....and would find it annoying and funny. :P

super hero....I don't know.....I am just genetically UN-SCARED. As a very little girl, 6,7,8 years old, if I would hear a noise in the house during the night, I would take out my aluminum bat and go out looking for trouble, to GET IT..... I have this very strange bad-ass (as I am called by friends) vigilante streak - it's mellowed a bit as I"ve gotten older (because I"m too tired), but many nights in Monterey, accidentally fell asleep wtih front door wide open, and all doors were pretty much always unlocked. I EAGERLY AWAIT confronting trouble-makers.....they make me MAD and they JUST SHOULD NOT be doing what they are doing!:angry: And no one ever harasses me, because I have always, since I was little, stared people dead in the eye when passing them - I always have looked at people, cars, everything around me in case required to do a police sketch later or be an eye-witness to a crime...... And have tried to train my nieces in same - it doesnt' work, they walk timidly and get hassled all the time ;)

Backpacking in the woods alone, at night......now THAT would scare me. There was once a near-death situation on a hiking trip in Big Sur (my stinker passed out, had to be carried out three of the five miles, was dx two days later w/ lymphoma). I was with a former Marine Harrier pilot - MANY animals and creatures and psycho killers in the forests of Big Sur.....and it got dark and late, many noises - - even HE was slightly scared....... We got home at 10 pm and I was exhilirated to know that I was NORMAL - - I got scared!!

I think Susan and her Iroquios Skull Crusher would give me nightmares!

:lol::lol: Nope, it's a fantastic artifact from a yard sale, hangs by the front door. Everyone loves it.....you would not be scared, unless you made me MAD :lol::lol:

and damn well better believe I"d use the thing if an intruder came..... ;)

Remember, I also have barking dingos here who would notify me INSTANTLY if anybody came in. :)

@RMJ@Scott Adams@knitty kitty, Thank you for all of your responses, tips, and suggestions. I'm very grateful that this website exists. It makes me feel a lot less alone in my celiac journey!  The endocrinologist had me do a neck ultrasound just to be safe. Thankfully, thyroid and lymph nodes came back normal. knitty kitty, my Vitamin D is on the higher end of normal, but I will definitely consider the dentist route next time I have my checkup if I'm still noticing issues. Thank you! Scott, thanks for suggesting the ENT. I may consider seeing one if things don't resolve on their own. I am thankfully feeling a bit better now, so hopefully, this is just some sort of residual celiac inflammation like you mentioned, Scott. After all of the numerous tests and clinical visits I've had all year, I'm going to give my body (and wallet) a break for a few months to rest and heal without the stress of doctor appts/labwork and whatnot. Perhaps the health anxiety is also contributing to some of my symptoms.  Thank you once again for sharing your stories.

Using a pressure cooker will break down Lectins.  Long cooking times as in using a crock pot will also reduce Lectin content.   However, having tried both, going lectin free for a few weeks is like a vacation for my digestive system.  I do hope you give the AIP diet a try.  I understand that changing ones diet takes a lot of mental readjustment which is difficult, but it's really worth the effort for long-term health.   P.S.  Once your digestive tract is healed up, you should be able to add beans and rice back into your diet gradually.
    • glucel
Depending on which source you research sprouting or fermentation can reduce lectins. I sprout rice, buckwheat and quinoa. However, I admit that gas and intestinal inflammation still plague me after 5 1/2 mo gluten-free. I have been resisting but I may try the aip diet at some point.

Hi @jadeceoliacuk I am a UK based coeliac and I have used a private nutritionist a few times. She is very highly qualified and having just googled her details, she is listed on this website (see link).  For that reason, I think you could trust the listings here as I am quite sure she would not want to associate with this website unless it was a professional, trustworthy resource. https://www.nutritionist-resource.org.uk/ I hope this helps.
