slice them really thick, like an inch and a half, and leave a quarter inch or so when you scoop them. It's like making little cups. These work well with a fresh salsa that's not so spicy. The mango salsa from Costco works well if you don't want to make your own.

Sam's has pickled asparagus the is gluten-free and wonderful. Also, you could make an anti-pasta tray using rolled ham slices, olives and picked onions, fresh veggies and anything else you like.

Welcome MB! Thought about salami but some ham would be nice. Never had pickled asparagus. Might try it.

I did a surprise birthday party for my sis here last winter for fifty people, and had a lot of cut-up fruit (heavy on the grapes and berries) and veggies, as many different types of cheese slabs as I could afford, and lots of nice rice crackers with hummous dip and brandy pate. It was an after dinner, into-the-wee-hours party, so likely similar to what you're considering, Kherrighnne.. .. . it was perfect for the event and the number of people.

Make sure you have lotsa wine. After all, who in hell cares what food is there, really?

Here's the story:

I totally didn't see this--when I came back and read all the yummy ideas, I had to go back to see what was goin' on :P

I don't have much to add to everybody's suggestions.....I like to have big platters of cut up fruit (people seem to love fresh pineapple) and veggies. A sweet dip and something savory. If you have a way to keep them warm, meatballs are nice for something hot and meaty. Fill in the table with yer chocolates, popcorn, gluten-free pretzels, easy stuff like that.

I've also done a big pot of hot mulled cider on the stove--the house smells fantastic when they come in.

Hub will take care of that. I just have to get him to get 10 bottles of the same merlot and 10 of the same white. He likes to get 10 different ones so he can try them all. Gets confusing at a party. ( and makes him confusing) ;)

Taking hub on a filed trip to Costco this weekend to scope out the possibilities. Will probably cost us $150 just to look. He ( we) can't just look at Costco.

If you're going to do any dips for your veggies, it's very pretty to scoop out the centers of red and orange peppers and fill them with dip. I would make a strict no gluten rule for anything brought.

I found 2 sites that say the Dekuypers brand of schnapps are gluten-free. They have one called 'hot damn' cinnamon schnapps. Not 100% positive. Trying to find info for Fireball whiskey too, not being successful :(

I was wondering that, too. We used to do dark rum and cinn schapps.

Like the hummus in the Pepper. very Xmasy colored.

Since most are hub's employees, I think we can do enforce the no gluten rule. If this goes well, the boys will want out annual between Xmas and New Years neighborhood party. That will be hard to enforce & explain.

We have a guy here who makes the best red pepper hummus. Nothing he makes in that kitchen is gluteny so I figure is safe.

reminds me of college days :P Hubby's bff had a corner room in our dorms. Those have the big walk-in closets. He decided to make wine in there but neglected to regulate the pressure. Purple 'wine' exploded onto the other side of the closet where his roomie's metro-sexual designer wardrobe hung :rolleyes:

Here's the story:

Hub wants to have a little Xmas party for his employees/people he works with and spouses if they are so inclined. About 30 people. Trying to make this as easy as possible since most of it falls on me. We have decided to do a wine, cheese, chocolate type thing. Will have beer and soft drinks, too. gluten-free crackers, fruit...

I'm going to go heavy on cheese like cheddar from Costco but will get a few odder things. gluten-free crackers so I don't have to worry.

J & M make great fudge and toffee. J makes great PB truffles. I can make them, too, if they don't have time. Also, I have made some coffee/choc and amaretto truffles. I think I can make these ahead & freeze.

Here's the questions for my wise and experienced partiers:

Sound OK? Enough food?

Have to roll truffles in things. Can't use graham crackers unless I use a gluten-free kind. Use crushed peanuts and those little chocolate jummy sprinkle things. If I could get red & green ones, are they gluten-free? Will have to look.

Something else I could serve?

What do I do if someone brings glutinous cookies? I don't want to worry about the crumbs in my left overs. Hub maybe can tell them not to, they all know I have Celiac.

I know I should be offline (and will return to couch shortly but I took a loooong nap). Definitely keep the non gluten-free out of the house. You're doing too well to get CC'd/ And it's your house! I'm sure everything you make will be delicious. Perhaps you can suggest what they bring and make sure it's all things you can eat (or drink like wine).

      From the article you linked: "Currently, there are no recommended methods to test for non-celiac gluten sensitivity." "No recommended methods" is the key phrase here. Just on the anecdotal evidence of reading many posts on this forum, I think we sometimes see some elevated igg test scores with NCGS. They seem to be mildly elevated in these cases, not high high.

      Thank you for your reply. I’m beginning to think of iodine as another culprit in this, as much as I fear it. I will say my rash is extreme and diffuse - it’s everywhere! I first had it on both sides of my neck in the summer of 2023. My PCP and dermatologist at the time, thought it was a reaction to jewelry I was wearing, even though I had been wearing the same necklaces for literally years with no reaction. The dermatologist at the time repeated over and over again that “allergies are acquired.” Which I knew. But I was not reacting to any other jewelry I was wearing. So it didn’t make any sense to me that it would only be from my necklaces. Anyway, it abated on it’s own. Only to come back with a vengeance months later - and I had not worn any necklaces at all. And the rash involved more area. I was put on Prednisone (oral steroid) taper and it worked well, and the itch and eventually the rash went away. Another trip to a different dermatologist at that time, prior to starting the Prednisone, told me to change all of my hygiene products like soap and shampoo, and to slather on Vaseline. None of which worked, hence the Prednisone. Needless to say, the itch and subsequent rash returned - and now spread everywhere, not just the hollows on both sides of my neck. It’s there, on my upper chest and left breast, both upper arms front and back, and elbows, my entire back, down both of my hips and buttocks and the front of my right thigh. Now the back of that right thigh is starting to itch as well. Also my lower right forearm and middle knuckle on my left hand since going gluten free. I’m just itching everywhere all the time. It keeps me awake, or wakes me up when I do fall asleep. I’m trying my best not to scratch, but it’s nearly impossible! I’ve been using a dry washcloth to rub instead of scratching. And I have used cool wet washcloths which help, but only lasts for a few minutes before starting up again. I’m pretty much at my wit’s end. Just waiting for something to indicate what’s really going on so I can do SOMETHING to stop it!

      Reply to Russ H, Thank you for your input. As a nurse for 46 years I was aware of much of this. However, as a new member to dermatitis herpetiformis, I have been reading and researching everything I can about it in order to educate and help myself. I was hoping that the oral Dapsone would help to alleviate the itching. I knew the rash would take longer to abate. Instead of relief from the Dapsone, I had adverse reactions so had to stop it. After 2 months on it, if hadn’t helped with the itching at all, and I understand it usually helps in the first few days if it’s going to. My itch and rash actually got worse on the Dapsone and with going gluten free - which lead me to question whether I was getting glutined from other products I am using. It’s like a huge puzzle trying to put all these pieces together to somehow make it fit and make sense. Right now, myself and my doctor are perplexed.
