I peel the orange and limit the amount of zest 'cause I don't really like the shock of the intense orange flavor. Maybe dried zest would be a little easier, or just skip it. You could flavor after cooking with a splash of orange liqueur if it needed a bit more. Some people put some orange concentrate in, but I don't like it too juicy.

Not going to BE's, but he and I are planning on going to Open Original Shared Link on Friday, if the weather isn't too heinous.

thanks, Jess!

the Spit sounds like just our kind of place. Have fun!

Big storm here. Took more than an hour to get from the boat to my house last night (4 miles). Power was out for a while and it's still flickering. Can't imagine what the roads are like. I have to figure out if I'm going to try to get into work or not. Not that I need to work, but I don't have a fireplace and it's pretty chilly in my house.

Outside temp currently 21. Reminding you that I'm in Seattle, where a low of 30 in February is a remarkable event.

Jeepers, Jess, this sounds like a three-cat day under the blankets  as Kerrigne says. How come you have no heat in your house???

Em, I am afeared you are right; hope is fading fast even on the west coast amongst the mining community where they are a hardy bunch of survivors. I saw video yesterday from CCTV of the blast coming out of the mine and I don't think it was survivable. Gas levels are still too high to risk going in and possibly setting off another explosion. It seems like there may be a smoldering fire burning down below - it has been a rather gaseous mine  It is all very harrowing and frustrating for those affected.

How awful! It was a coal mine, right? They have horrible dangerous gases and collapses. The Chilian mine was metal or jewels. Those usually don't have the gas that is found in the rock around coal.

Think I have bought all the food I need for Turkey day except we get the smoked turkey tomorrow. Fortunately, it's cold because I can't fit the food in the fridge. I have to clean & re- organize a little. It's about 40 degrees so things will be fine on the porch for a little bit.

I heard about the robot. Hope that turns out OK.

My power went off about 5 am. I left at 11 when the house reached 45 degrees. I'm at BE's house, but his parents don't have power either, so he's gone to get them. :o :o     I'm in his shop, so can't hang around. Just wanted to email my prof that I won't make it to class tomorrow and what should I do about my homework?

Stay warm y'all.

Do you mean finding out what your assignment is or handing your homework in? Can you email the homework? Sounds like you have a legitimate excuse to hand it in late. Glad you're at BE's. Guess this means you decided to spend Thanksgiving with him (or is fate forcing your hand?). biggrin.gif

Just picked up our son at school. He's out eating a gluten packed dinner at a chinese restaurant. I decided that it would be fun for him and dad to enjoy eating without my restrictions tonight. Tomorrow it's gluten-free mac and cheese (for them, not me). I had planned on making Jewish Penicillin but he's not sick anymore. Of course I also have three huge bags of laundry that need to be done. I have to admit it's so nice to have him home that I don't mind doing it.

Happy Turkey Day to all. My thoughts and prayers are still with the miners but it is looking grim. Not a very happy holiday for them or their families.

P.S. question for my brilliant psillies:

I'm making a potato casserole and a squash casserole Thanksgiving morning. I need to make them in advance because I won't have room in the oven to heat them (making 2 ducks) so I want them cooked in advance so I can microwave them. They have eggs in them but again they will be fully cooked. Can I keep them outside if it's supposed to be 46 degrees. I won't have any room in my refrigerator for them.

(((HUGS)))

Lough--no, it's too warm to keep yer casseroles outside. Lord knows, you do not need phood poisoning on top o' everything else! :o

Can you re-stack stuff in yer fridge to get them in?

There is no established connection between type 2 diabetes and celiac disease. There is a connection with type 1, however, as about 6% of those with type 1 diabetes also have celiac disease. This rate is 6x that of the celiac rate found in the general population. https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/related-conditions/diabetes-and-celiac-disease/

Here is a link to the skin version, and the only ingredients are "chicken": https://www.perduefarms.com/en-US/perdue-bone-in-chicken-thighs-pack/60625.html There should also be ingredients and any allergens listed there on the package.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @BeeBarnard! I really can't imagine how either skin or skinless chicken thighs could not be gluten free unless one or the other were treated with some seasoning ingredient that was not gluten free. Do the product labels indicate any additional ingredients added to the meat? Is your daughter a super sensitive celiac? If not, the amount of gluten cross contamination found in seasonings is usually inconsequential.
    • BeeBarnard
HI, My daughter was recently diagnosed with Celiac and I would like to make her some chicken soup (she's got he flu). I found all gluten free ingredients but I'm having trouble with the chicken. I purchased Purdue bone-in chicken thighs from BJ's Wholesale Club. Purdue says that they are gluten free but the BJ's website says no. It seems like skin-on chicken is not, but skinless is. Does this seem accurate? Thank you
