Hope so--it's just so nice to have a break from all that cold. It's gonna cool down tonight and be back to normal over the weekend but this day has been heavenly! It's actually 67 now (the sun came out).....I did the sheets, aired out the bedroom--all that fun stuff :D

Another good thing--so much snaugh has melted the last couple of days.

Ah, cultural thang.

Las Palmas is a resort in Spain which is usually over run with young Brits in the summer generally acting debauched and disgustingly drunk. Generally giving Brits a bad name everwhere.

T'is a play on the disgusting behavioUr of Brits abroad - I don't actually condone that babies DO this. sad.gif

Must be a Commonwealthian thang. . .. . .....for I found it heelarryus. Couldn't really figure out WHY, but now I know - - 'tis the British Empire pull. . . ....

Oh. Sorry. :(

I posted a Minestrone crockpot soup recipe. Its even better the next day. Can be completely vegetarian, even vegan.

'tis difficult being such a diverse group of people. We didn't 'meet' through work or hobbies or really anything we have in commmon, except food, or rather lack of a certain food.

And my little island bus is short. Makes it easier to all be laughing at the same thing. :)

Hi, guys! After a couple of balmy days when I did not need a coat, winter has returned. :o It's 22oF with winds gusting to 25 mph. Brrrr.

Monday is a holiday here in Ontario, and we're taking a four-day break from work. We will stop by the store briefly on Monday to feed the cats.

Quite an adventure happening on Lake Ontario this weekend, POeter.... . . . Will, Sophie and Jack headed your way Thursday night for a weekend hockey tourney in Oakville. Jack's hero is my brother who lives on Wards Island, so they took the ferry over to stay overnight there Thurs. evening before any of the games started. Well, when Jack and my bro were taking the afternoon ferry over to the city yesterday, there were so many massive chunks of ice that the boat couldn't break through it -- kept circling, spraying water to make it drift. . . .......had to finally take an altered route.

Same thing happened on the trip back to the island. The nine o'clock boat didn't dock at Wards until close to ten. (It's an eight-minute ride). .. . ...

Jack was just thrilled... . . . brother, not so much. . . .. . ...<_<

Had to get gas petrol yesterday . . . today, it's 14 cents per gallon cheaper . . . grrrrr . . . <_<

Going to Five Guys tonight . . . first time we're trying this place . . . hope we like it. We need a few more places where the kids will actually eat and I feel safe enough to take Skeeter.

The guy who took our order (manager I think as he was significantly older than the rest of the crew :P and also had the ability to give us a free drink) could totally tell it was our first time (was I wearing some kind of sign)?

Totally stuffed!!!

They have bacon hot dogs there!!!! Both kids have decided that's what they are having next time.

Nik, love you sweetie, and I'm so sorry that you were upset :( When I called Em special, I meant it in an extraordinary/exceptional way--never in a million years did I mean otherwise.

Jeeeeez, why can't WE have restaurants like that UP HERE?

When I saw this post, Jyaghnutt, I became very excited and thought you were going to see these guys, but then I realized that only Canada would harbour such a group.... . .

Me, too, Nik! I really did not know what the expression meant, and just googled it now. I found the possibilities of what it could mean to be phunny. . . .. ... ..I'm so glad you mentioned how you felt, and if I contributed to it at all please know that I'm very sorry! :(

Now, the drunken toddler. . . .. . ... . ..I'm afraid that is quite phunny to me, but also, upon sober second thought, kind of horrifying. . . ... . .. .. . . . ..rather like The Five Neat Guys, methinks. . . . .....

I told M his hair was curling out in the back where it was touching his shoulders. He has agreed to a haircut on Sat. He needs the time to decide how much to get taken off. The long hair is also uncomfortable in his lacrosse helmet. Crossing fingers for you & me.

Happy start to the week!

We went to PF Changs Saturday night--had me phav Lemon Chicken and Mark and I shared a whole bottle of wine. Polished off the entire thing. Just sayin.... B)

Also, his company had a booth at the NJ Home Show over the weekend. We went and spent some time there, which was phun. There was a guy at the show selling 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheet sets (wif 4 pillowcases) for $20--any size. Naturally I had to get some....and a set fer each of the kids. Hope they don't phall apart in the wash this morning.

A woman in the crowd--who may or may not have been a plant--said she got them last year and loved them.

Your concerns about Nando's cross-contamination practices are valid and important for the celiac community. It's disappointing that Nando's does not have stricter protocols for children's portions, especially given the risk of cross-contact with gluten-containing items like garlic bread. Cooking gluten-free items on shared surfaces, even if cleaned, is not safe for individuals with celiac disease, as even trace amounts of gluten can cause harm. While the adult butterfly chicken may be a safer option, the inconsistency in practices for children's meals is concerning. It's frustrating that Nando's headquarters did not take responsibility, but sharing your experience raises awareness and may encourage them to improve their protocols. Consider reaching out to celiac advocacy organizations to amplify your concerns and push for better standards. Always double-check with staff and emphasize the importance of avoiding cross-contamination when dining out.

I had this symptom when I was diagnosed. Are you sure that your diet is 100% gluten-free?  Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

Based on your results, it seems unlikely that you have celiac disease. A negative endoscopy and the absence of HLA-DQ2/DQ8 genes (the primary genetic markers for celiac) strongly suggest you do not have the condition. However, the elevated TTG-IgA (22) could indicate a temporary immune response or another issue, such as a different autoimmune disorder, intestinal infection, or even a lab anomaly. The presence of DQA1*05 alone is not diagnostic for celiac. Meeting with an allergist and GI specialist is a good next step to explore other potential causes for the high antibodies, such as non-celiac gluten sensitivity or other immune-related conditions. Keep a detailed food and symptom diary to help guide further testing and discussions with your doctors. Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.

I had celiac panel done back in October, only ttg iga came back high  (22 with positive being over 3). Endoscopy done in January, it was  negative. Genetic test done after endoscopy, negative for both hla dq2 & dq8. Did show positive for dqa1*05.  Scheduled to meet with an allergist next week. Not scheduled to meet with GI specialist till after allergist. Confused if I have celiac or what caused high the antibodies originally if I do not.

Tums is an antacid.  Calcium (also vitamin D) need it acidic for absorption, so you're not really getting any calcium benefit.  Try DGL, it coats rather than counteracts acid. You need acid anyway to digest and get those vitamins. It's usually not too much acid that causes heartburn, it's not enough acid which causes food to rot and ferment in the stomach. Try DGL, everyone I've gotten to actually try it has had great relief. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IAJW0K
