Well really now Vincent, get your priorities straight! Novels or psillyness it's obvious which is more important!

Loey , good to hear you are doing something useful for a change, painting! Enough of that running around concerts chasing young tail. If you get good at painting they'll come to you!

Here's a product you might like. These Derwent Inktense blocks are watercolor in stick form. You draw with them and then take a wet brush and blend or smooth the colors. Very nice rich colors and they become waterproof after 24 hours.

And this is good blog you might like on art.

I have started gallery sitting at the ArtDC gallery in Hyattsville on Saturdays It's a commission only job so basically no money in it. But it is a chance for me to make some art since I take my art supplies with me and can work during my shift. But at least I can say I worked in a gallery.

It's great that you're gallery sitting. You never know when you get a fan base.

It's so good to hear from you. Had I mentioned that I'm initially copping out. I have a lot of expensive painting kits, books, supplies, and canvasses but I want to practice techniques and shading, etc. So I bought a few paint by numbers kits (they they say from ages 8 to 88) laugh.gif. I'm finding it very relaxing and it's showing me how the shading works (I swear I still can't paint between the lines) and in some ways is building my confidence. I don't know if I ever told you why I dropped out of my painting class. My teacher would mock my work. I had a friend in the class with me and she noticed it without my telling her. I didn't need to pay her $60 a month to not teach me and make me feel insecure. Not all of us are instantly sucessful. Anyway I set up a craft area in my basement (I design jewelry also and t I know I'm good at that). I also have started to have the girl I tutor come with her siblings and mom (I hadn't realized that her mother and brother were waiting in the car for an hour). She also has an interesting older sister. We start the session with a craft project (usually jewelry so the brother brings his game boy) and then mom and Cori (older sis) continue their projects and I work with Selia on her sight words, vowels & consonants and reading. I hadn't seen her for over a month because I was sick and I was amazed at the progress she had made. She use to be afraid of anything other than kindergarten books and now she's picking novels. I have an enormous supply of books and school supplies from teaching (I taught grades 1-6, G&T, and special ed) so whatever she or her siblings pick they get to keep.

Back to the very useful info and sites you gave me. The Derwent Inktense blocks sound really cool. I can order them from Dick Blick, right? The other site for starting at 50 definitely sounds right up my ally. As for chasing sweet young things at the concerts my DH is all that I need (but it doesn't hurt to look - I'm married not dead). It was interesting to watch my son. There were girls scantily dressed and it turned him off. He's mentioned in the past that if he wanted a bimbo he'd already have had a lot of girlfriends. He wants someone intelligent.

When I was young and went to concerts I went to listen. Today half the audience is ripped and talks through the songs. It's annoying (and I guess I've become an old fart).

Well DH is saying his stomach is grumbling now so I should probably go have some dinner. I haven't had an appetite so he serves me and makes sure I eat. I wish I could smell dinner but hopefully I'll be able to taste it.

I'm going to check out your website tomorrow and see if my favorite artist has added anything.

Be well my friend,

Loey

Good grief Loey, that's not a teacher that's a trasher! It's good you quit her, nobody needs that. If she doesn't understand that teaching is to encourage people to grow she is in the wrong line of work. The Inktense are watercolors so if you have watercolor pencils already you can use those just fine. They sell the Inktense at Dick Blick but you can get them at other places also, like Plaza Artist Materials or Jerry's Artarama. Utrecht has the pencils but not the blocks for some reason.

Blending is good stuff. It's good to take a sheet of paper and do some test blending with all your different colors to see what you get. Red and yellow for orange, and blue and yellow for green are obvious, but you can get lots of other colors by just playing around with mixing them. Colors on the opposite side of the color wheel will dull down or neutralize your color.

Paint by numbers are a fine way to learn. Lots of artists make their own coloring book by doing a drawing on the canvas before they start painting. That's another option. Painting in coloring books can be fun. I got a dinosaur coloring book to practice my airbrushing.

That's neat that your pupil is learning to read. It sounds like she is making great progress!

Oh, you won't see any updates on my web site, I am very slow at updating it. I suppose I should do that more often.

Thanks so much for your support. It's sad when you dread going to a class you wanted to take. I always feel better after hearing from you. Today is a lazy day. I'm hoping my cold coming back is just a cold - not the pneumonia. The docs have yesterday's chest X-ray and I haven't heard from them so no news is good news. I still have a goal to be well enough to visit my brother in Leesburg. I'd definitely make it to DC if I went. Unfortunately that's a long way off but ... baby steps. At the Springsteen concert I had to climb up 15 ramps and then 10 rows of stairs and I did it so anything is possible if you set your mind on it. Reading a lot of Louise Hay and positive affirmations. And I'm thoroughly enjoying Victor's book Enemy of the Enemy. He's a gifted writer and the book is a page turner.I have your self portrait on my desktop. It's nice to have the forum nearby!

Off for a quick nap, then a little painting and more reading (first I have to get past that nap).

Hugs,

Loey

Well shoot Loey, if you are in Leesburg you definietley6 need to stop in DC and pay a visit. We can hit the Cupcake factory in Dupont Cirlce for gluten-free cupcakes. Or do something like tour the museums. Some of them have good gluten-free food like the American Indian Museum. At least that's what I've been told.

Yay for Loey the ramp climber! :) Rampin' it up for celiacs! :) :) :)

That's one of my goals! My brother and SIL have been doing all the traveling to visit us. I'd like to aim for next cherry blossom season or the conference my DH goes to in the fall. BTW, fingers crossed again -Superman had a phone interview with HR for a job today that he would actually like and he has a phone interview with the department head on Friday. It's in Mass. We're becoming the Traveling Arias'. Initially he'd rent a studio apartment and I'd spend the weeks that I don't have doctor's appointments up there with him. The thought of finding new doctors again makes me sick (pardon the pun). I finally have a team of doctors that all work together and I'm happy with them all. But as Rob says there are doctors in Mass.

Did I hear you say gluten-free cupcakes and Indian Food? Meeting you would be wonderful!

Hugs,

Lo

Thank you all for the good wishes, If the phone interview goes well he'll go in for a day of interviews and presentations. Living arrangements will be strange but we didn't live together the first years of dating, Just had keys for each others apartments and surprised or planned. His medical will be my primary and medicare secondary so that's great. getting sleepy so Vincent's book will have to wait until tomorrow to finish.

Hugs, (I'm a healing hugger if you all haven't figured that out by now) smile.gif

I've not tried the product, but it is definitely possible that it contains barley and wheat grass, and is gluten-free. I would imagine that they are regularly testing their product for gluten content, since they are making the claim that their product is gluten-free. I personally avoid these ingredients, but some celiacs do consume them without issues. PS - my daughter uses this product regularly, and she is very sensitive and has DH as well. She does not have issues with it.

Welcome back! Many celiac patients navigating perimenopause or menopause consider estrogen therapy, and there’s growing research highlighting its potential benefits. Estrogen has been shown to reduce certain health risks associated with menopause, such as cardiovascular disease, particularly in post-menopausal women. This is significant since studies suggest that women with celiac disease may already face an elevated risk of heart disease due to chronic inflammation or malabsorption issues prior to diagnosis. Estrogen therapy, whether through pills, patches, or other methods, can also help alleviate menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and bone loss, all of which can be exacerbated by nutrient deficiencies common in celiac patients before going gluten-free. Of course, the decision to use estrogen therapy is highly individual and depends on your health history, risk factors, and how well your body is responding to a gluten-free diet. If you're considering this route, it's a great idea to discuss it with your doctor. They can tailor a plan that aligns with your needs and monitor how the therapy affects your overall health. Hearing about others' experiences can also be helpful, so it's great you're reaching out to connect with others in the community!

https://nationalceliac.org/celiac-disease-questions/do-wheat-grass-and-barley-grass-contain-gluten/ I find this helpful. I will update you on what the company says but most likely will choose one of their products without the wheat and barley grass. Overall, I think the other powders should be safe and I will try them.

It’s great to hear that you’re feeling better overall since going gluten-free, but I can understand how these new menstrual symptoms are frustrating and confusing. Hormonal fluctuations and changes in your cycle after a celiac diagnosis are not uncommon. When the body starts healing from prolonged inflammation and malabsorption, it can affect hormones, particularly those involved in your menstrual cycle. Additionally, going gluten-free can improve overall health, which might shift your hormone balance and alter your cycles. Delayed or irregular periods, cramping, and other new symptoms may be part of your body’s adjustment process, especially if your antibodies are still trending downward. While it’s reassuring that your labs are normal and serious conditions like PCOS or thyroid issues have been ruled out, these symptoms might take time to stabilize. You could also explore whether stress, diet changes, or other factors might be contributing. If things don’t improve soon, you might want to revisit your OBGYN to discuss hormone-specific testing, such as estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol levels, to check for imbalances. In the meantime, tracking your symptoms and cycles closely could help you and your doctors identify patterns or triggers. Hang in there—healing can take time, but you’re on the right path!

I noticed on the label: https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/product/whole-foods-market-organic-wheatgrass-powder-california-73-ounce-b07g333x4y that it says "Contain Wheat Ingredients," which probably means that it can include the protein from the wheat kernels/seeds.
