Finding the first suggestion of a parade (by Emily, as it turns out) took me back 131 pages, to post number 3021 on page 202. And that was only a month ago. I have been reading off and on all day, and am now on page 244. I started on page 280 yesterday, so I still have a lot to catch up on. You people here are, well, I'm not quite sure of the right word for it.

The St Remy brandy helped last night, but this thread calls for something serious. A new, non-feline avatar is called for! Cheers!

Mygawd...we've been circling through this vortex for a lot longer than I thought. I think this kind of thing commonly happens within vortexes--time bends, and perhaps even disappears completely. I have spent a moment on here, and the sun has set, the kids are suddenly home from school, Gus very badly needs out...an hour, not a moment. OK . . . with all the Thanksgiving plans being mentioned, here is how ours is panning out:

Background: Dad had a stroke several years ago. Loss use of his right side. Can shuffle for short distances, can't speak but understands perfectly . . . you wouldn't believe how opinionated and bossy he is for a man who can not speak!!! Mom had recent major medical issues (that I won't go into here but fingers crossed that she's through the worst of it). Mom is normally the one that makes the Thanksgiving Day Feast. If it's not her, then my Uncle does it - kind of like a pitch-in. This is the first year that we have to maintain gluten-free menu items for my kids . . . normally wouldn't be that big of a deal since I provide manual labor during meal preparation and can keep an eye on things. Mom & Dad live 300 miles away. Here's the phone call:

Me: Mom, just wanted to let you know that I got a turkey breast that I will bring with me that I will make for the kids so you don't have to figure out what turkey to buy.

Mom: Well, I guess I'll get another breast and maybe a ham.

Me: How many are coming?

Mom: So far, 22.

Me: Who's cooking?

Mom: You.

Me: <Silence>

Mom: Ashley said she'll peel the potatos.

I'm now on page 269. The drink in the current avatar is Beefeater gin with a bit of dry vermouth, shaken with ice and then strained. St Remy is a brandy that I occasionally sip neat, as I did last night. Somehow, alcohol seems to make it easier to understand parts of this thread.

I TRIED to be a brandy drinker...and a scotch drinker.......but dang, those things could just make me THROW UP. I have to stick with wine adn candy-flavoUred cocktails, or mojitos, that's about it.....

HOWEVER - - at a campfire a couple of years ago a nice lady was sharing her B & B wtih us - anyone know if that's gluten-free? it was MIGHTY TASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT spirit, I could drink.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like something he'd find amusing.

He writes from right here in NC, but he'd love to move out there eventually. He does have a few big writer buddies out there, though, and his site's gotten a ton of recognition.

He's been out to LA, and is going again next year. That's saying a lot when you're from NC. I gotta tell you guys, and it's ok to laugh- California almost seems like another planet to me. Although I've done plenty of traveling north, and a little south, I've never been off the east coast. Ah well, someday.

PS- My best friend keeps trying to get me to "pare down" my stuff, and I keep trying... but I just can't do it anymore! I already have a shed full of stuff I need to take to Goodwill, but I keep procrastinating. If we lived closer to town, I could get somebody to come and haul this crap off for me.

PPS- Besides... I like my crap. What if I walk into Goodwill and see somebody carrying around one of my kids' baby shirts? I'd cry.
