Good morning, Crazy Brethren...

New York Parade sounds fantastic to me. Gus, my dad and I will have to leave from here quite early, as the lineups to get across border are HEINOUS...Canuck shoppers cashing in. Who could my father become to speed things up, maybe play on the guards' sympathies, or subtly indimidate them? Perhaps his Central/South American Firing Squad Commander. Hmmmmmmm.....could help, or really hurt the cause..

Talked to my Northern MIL (I may be Northern, but she is Uber-North--think Yukon tundra), and she informed me that there is only one thing that even begins to mask yeti-wee smell: motor oil. She must scrub the side of her cabins every once in a while, and it's quite an enviornmental danger. But the poop? Ah, that must be left, as it has magical properties. After discussing these things with her, I sometimes wonder if she smokes it. :o:lol:

Now, back to you, Peter....I'm hoping that the understandable dependence on liquor while reviewing this thread is not occurring elsewhere in your life. This inner dialogue had best not be happening: "What! It's time for work...I've been reading this thread for two hours! Geez, I'd better pack a quick one to take with me while I try to digest all that I've read...hic!"..... We warn you, strange and terrifying things can happen to those not commited nor completely ready to serve here. That pathetic, shaking man you see crouched in the alley as you stride by, eyes vacant, hat upturned? He has been here, briefly. Maybe a hundred pages back, perhaps near the beginning. That desroyed man roaming Susie's streets, eviscerated and lost? He was likely here, too. Just a warning of what can happen within this vortex. Know the signs, and we are here to help....

I was worried it was just me ... I could only read the first line or two.

Peter, congrats on being able to understand this with the help of some alcohol! Even through all my brain fog/mental confusion, I STILL understand NOTHING! With the exception of Uncle Ray's jokes!

Amanda, how does one get pneumonia on a honeymoon????

CarlaB Enthusiast
I'm now on page 269. The drink in the current avatar is Beefeater gin with a bit of dry vermouth, shaken with ice and then strained. St Remy is a brandy that I occasionally sip neat, as I did last night. Somehow, alcohol seems to make it easier to understand parts of this thread. :P

I find it hysterical that you are reading it all! So, are you drinking in the middle of the afternoon as you are catching up?

When I miss a few days, I just jump back in .... going back doesn't help in understanding anything. It might be entertaining, however.

We just got back from Naples, FL yesterday ... it was great! The convention was at the Ritz Carlton .... you wouldn't believe the cars there .... a few Rollls, three Astin Martins (didn't see James Bond though), a Bentley .... and a Bugatti! I Googled Bugatti .... they go for 1.7 million! :o

Now back to normalcy ....

. . . . I gotta tell you guys, and it's ok to laugh- California almost seems like another planet to me.

Having been given permission, hear my hearty laugh!:lol:

Once during a 12 or 14 hr flight, I decided to count how many of our 50 states I'd been to. <oops did I just dangle something inappropriately?> It req'd much thought and drawing a little map of the U.S.

I think it came to 38.

Missing all the NE and the upper western ones. Gonna git'em ALL someday! :P:)

P.S. Y'all aren't REALLY gonna keep me out of the Badass Snow Poodles just for being able to write in the snow are ya?? :(

Please!!! I have decades of band experience!!

 Don't think so! It's funny, my 11 year old son loves cars, so we told him about this one. He said, "Wow, that car is over a million dollars!" I had never heard of it before ... hubby had, but hadn't a clue how much it cost .... it looked rather expensive. I wish I had seen who was driving it.

My My we are on the quiet side today.

You always are when I'm having a bad health day .... :(

When I worked in Cincinnati, I worked with a guy originally from NY. When he was still in NY, he thought that once you got to the Mississippi River, California was about another 4 hour drive. :o:lol: Really smart guy, too. . . I guess he just thought that the US map was always drawn out of proportion. Then he moved to Ohio and figured out the country was a little bigger than he thought.

P.S. Y'all aren't REALLY gonna keep me out of the Badass Snow Poodles just for being able to write in the snow are ya?? :(

Oh . . . don't sell us short . . . we can write our names in the snow. It just requires a lot of shuffling footprints along the way!

"Tom and The Badass Snow Poodles appearing live at the Toronto Convention Centre"... That sounds great. At one time on here, while planning the first parade, we were talking about who can play what. Well, now we have the makings of a band, and we've got a GREAT name! Perhaps we can quickly arrange a song, climb up on one of the floats, and perform it in NY. That could be our breakout chance...

I notice my typing is not getting smaller this time. This puzzled me, as well, as I hadn't noticed the squinching up of lines in any other post. Embarrassment? Man! My problem is complete lack of embarrassment, at all times. I've no shame, and no regulator emotion in place, I'm afraid...:o

PPS- Besides... I like my crap. What if I walk into Goodwill and see somebody carrying around one of my kids' baby shirts? I'd cry.

Um, Sarah, I am a CA native - trust me - it IS another planet. Well, southern Cal and parts of northern and nearly all coastal.......unfortunately I live in the MIDDLE. Sooooooooo pedestrian here, I do not belong. But, I do like the wide open spaces and the farmlands around me, and being able to see the Sierra Nevada about 2/3 of the year, and knowing it's an hour away. :) And I did get to live in Monterey for 7 years........one of the most beautiful spots on God's green earth.........

Ok... between Susie's projectile cupcakes, and my bizarre gritty gravy, this Thanksgiving is turning out to be dangerous.

:o I know.......I am askeert.......................

*snort* she said eviscerated  Or, he could have been disemboweled........

Maybe......At least others noticed my lines squinching together, so it was not simply me hallucinating. Someone else type a long post like I did and see if it happens to them. I'm beginning to suspect it's a vendetta against me from the board, trying to get me to shorten things up (not the first time in my life such hints have been dropped....sigh...)

Well, Tom's in the same state now! And seeing as it's only a four hour drive from the Mississippi River to California, the two of you are practically next door neighbors!

Mtndog Collaborator
Finding the first suggestion of a parade (by Emily, as it turns out) took me back 131 pages, to post number 3021 on page 202. And that was only a month ago. I have been reading off and on all day, and am now on page 244. I started on page 280 yesterday, so I still have a lot to catch up on. You people here are, well, I'm not quite sure of the right word for it.

The St Remy brandy helped last night, but this thread calls for something serious. A new, non-feline avatar is called for! Cheers!

OMG- Peter is SO in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This may call for some absinthe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Always wanted to try but it's illegal here in the US...don't know why????

Our PARADE needs a new purpose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh where, oh where, is my zombie man, and future husbnad..........I miss my half-naked zombie man..............

Janet- Ashley will PEEL THE POTATOES???? Tell her to PEEL THIS :o

OMG- Carla- saw a BUGATTI. We need one in the parade!!!!!!! The yeti can drive it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, absinthe, um, burns holes in teh brain....hence its other name, Wormwood. No, it's made from Wormwood. I think. Well.. it burns holes in the wood on the tops of bars. Or is that just urban legend? Um, it's about 80% alcohol. OMG I DID get a small vial of real absinthe, from France!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Green Faerie - it was magic - my co-worker's father was an ostentatious judge in Monterey, and had some, of course. They decanted a small vial for me. Gail and I drank it, over teh sugar cube and everything, mixed w/ water and ice.......

Hey, could THAT be my problem???????? Why am I no longer painting crazy FAUVE paintings?????????? BECAUSE MY ABSINTHE RAN OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG quick, SOMEONE GET US SOME MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bev - what have you started????????

BRING BACK ABSINTHE!!!!!!!!! Check this out, adn look at the third paragraph. oh what joy! It's NOT a hallucinogen, and not as eeee-villle as was always thought!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Tis now the official beverage of the Gustavian Silly Yak Lunatic Madness Bacchanal and Parade!!!!!!!!

I'll bring the absinthe to the parade. Canada remains one of those twelve countries that has quietly kept producing and selling the stuff. Fauves, you say? Have a look at Emily Carr's early work, or ANY of the Group of Seven's...What inspired those horrific totem faces? Those crazy trees and gardens?

I hereby proclaim (with the Fair Queen Amanda's consent, of course), Canadian Absinthe as the official drink of the Augustus Silly Yak Lunatic Bacchanal and Parade!

Do you think yetis can manage absinthe?

Do we care?

Your doctor may or may not be well-informed about the issue you raise so I would not agree that he/she would necessarily be the best person to rely on for a good answer. The question actually raises two issues.  The first issue has to do with cross contamination and individual sensitivity as dublin55 alluded to. Oats and wheat are both cereal grains that are typically grown in the same areas, transported in the same trucks, stored in the same silos and processed on the same equipment. So, there is usually significant CC (Cross Contamination). With gluten free oats, there is some effort to separate these processes that would otherwise cause significant CC and "gluten free" oats should meet the FDA requirement of not exceeding 20 ppm of gluten. But this 22 ppm standard is not strict enough for more sensitive celiacs. "Certified gluten free" oats (and other food products are held to a stricter standard, that being not exceeding 10 ppm. But even that is too much gluten for some super sensitive celiacs and will cause a reaction. The second issue with oats has nothing to do with gluten per se but with the protein found in oats called "avenin". Avenin has a structure similar enough to gluten to cause a reaction in some celiacs. This is called "cross reaction" not to be confused with "cross contamination" discussed in the previous paragraph. So, for whatever reason, whether cross contamination or cross reaction, it is estimated that about 10% of celiacs react to oats.
    • dublin555
Karen, that sounds really tough. You must find both RA management and your new gut problems extremely irritating to handle at once. Together with your pain relief you still experience ongoing bloating complications that drag on without a resolution. Of course visiting a doctor to obtain a proper celiac diagnostic evaluation becomes necessary when no formal diagnosis has been received. Your journey toward recovery has been lengthy yet it brings comfort to notice your progress during this time. This support group offers you valuable help because there are people experiencing the same concerns with you. Working through your issues will be easier.
    • dublin555
Yeah, it’s tricky. I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions too. Some folks can tolerate certified gluten-free oats without a problem, but others with celiac still react. Honestly, it really depends on your sensitivity. Your doctor would be the best person to ask about your specific situation.
    • Matt13
Hi guys! Can we eat them an can they cause villious atrophy? I saw multiple articles about it an they have very different opinions… so what did your doctor told you? Thanks!

I can't edit my posts, but I forgot to note as well: I also had low iron and vitamin d according to my blood tests, despite already taking supplements for each
