Hi Donna!! Back from WhF already?

Cookie aisle still safely unguarded??

Hey, I'm fast! Cookie aisle completely safe. I have learned THAT lesson. I DID however, spend about half of my 20 minute shopping time staring at the place where the pumpkin tarts were supposed to be. :P

He's in Tagish, which is a community about an hour and a half north of Whitehorse. He's out in the bush, with about seventy sled dogs. Talk about rustic.....

Whoa it IS the Yukon!! That's practically synonymous w/ Alaska isn't it?

My brother Pat was an Alaska Parks Ranger, spending nearly every day out in purt'near wilderness.

And at every opportunity, he'd go to his remote cabin.

Once when I was there we used a 100+ yr old giant saw to cut ~6ft thick lake ice for his icehouse. The cutting's no picnic, but the lifting it out?? UGH!!

Covered in sawdust it lasts all summer. :o

The amazing old wood stove had a way to route water through it so you'd get an incredible hot shower in the middle of NOwhere!

Man, my mojo's slipping, as well...just got back from our Ottawa Senators vs. The Rangers. Uggghhhh, our boys stunk.

Bah!!!

Still, it's good to hear you're "oot" going to hoUckey games!!! :P:)

. . .. I DID however, spend about half of my 20 minute shopping time staring at the place where the pumpkin tarts were supposed to be. :P

 I've done that!! Not w/ pumpkin tarts but w/ SOMEthing!!:blink::lol:

Oh DONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN-ahhhhhhhh? Has the Christmas in The Park choir schedule come out yet?

Heyyyyyyyyy .. . .. .haven't heard of you practicing w/ them lately . .. .. .what's the dealio?

Amanda--

I was at Giant today--there's one about 5 minutes from us. I think of you when I go there :)

Mine wasn't too crowded--I wonder how bad it's going to be tomorrow. My husband and son are going to a car club meeting about an hour north-west of here tomorrow afternoon.

The reason why I think of you is that you have mentioned Giant at times and I had never even heard of it--they don't have any over in Jersey. Now, it's the store I go to most, as the Wegmans is about 30-40 minutes away. There's also a Wegmans in Allentown that I need to check out--it may turn out to be closer than the other one.

Our Giant is very nice--we are told that it's pretty new, and it has an excellent natural foods section. I get my Pacific broth, Gluten Free Pantry mixes, Tinkyada, and several other things there.

I saw K-too's at the Giant the other day. It is a Carlisle PA, grocery chain which is why there are a million by me.

I think about you everytime I go to Wegmans. I think you and I got to be friends on here over a conversation about Wegmans, quite awhile ago...maybe over a year now (wow does time fly)

But either way, we got some nice ice coming tomorrow, how much are you guys expecting?

Allentown Wegmans is nice, we have been there a few times when we were passing through the area.

I remember :D Yes, this year has really flown by...

I just checked the weather channel--there's a winter weather advisory in the area from 4AM to 8PM tomorrow. They're calling for about an inch of snow, but it will turn to sleet, freezing rain and then rain before it's all over. Yuk!

Are you expecting the same?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

much the same....but when they first talked about it, it said sleet in the morning only then rain. Now, they are saying sleet all day long. I can deal with snow, but ice is so dangerous, it reminds me of last year when all the interstates got closed with the ice storm. Not one of PA's proud moments.

I figure tomorrow will be a day of house cleaning and laundry. John wants to start decorating for Christmas.

Are you enjoying your new home?

Yes and no

It seems like it's taking forever to get settled in--there are things we want to do right away, so there are several projects going--and this time of year is so busy anyway.....I told Mark that we're getting too old for this :P

Have fun tomorow :D

Something silly:

My best friend's parents live about 2 minutes from me, and they have chickens (and goats, donkeys, horses, etc.) I get eggs from them every once in awhile... We are major egg eaters. They have a big group of young ones that are getting ready to start laying, and they'll be selling the eggs.

I was so excited, and I told hubby tonight that pretty soon I'll be able to get all our eggs from them- fresh local eggs, woohoo!

And hubby confessed... "Honey, I don't really do... natural... eggs."

I said, "What do you mean?"

And he said, "You know... they're weird, and brown, and... farmy. And... they have chicken butt cooties."

"Umm sweetie, you do know where the grocery store eggs come from, right?"

"Yeah I know, but that's different."

 Chicken butt cooties!

(I'm still going to buy them for me and the kids, though!)

Sarah-Thats neat they live so close and the animals sound so cute. I think baby goats are adorable. I love going to to the county fair and seeing the animals. I love seeing the sheep before they get sheered (i think thats what it is called) they are so adorable.

I used to get eggs from my grandparent's farm (they're free that way!!!) My college boyfriend didn't want to eat them - thought they would taste funny since they were brown. He asked me what color they were on the inside.

I took him out to my grandparents farm on one of my trips home. (He was a city boy - lived north of Chicago - perhaps you can relate, Tom). Anyways . . . my uncle and I take him for a walk (with a warning from Grandpa to stay out of the North pasture because he put the bull out there). At that point, my uncle was doing a lot of work on the farm including feeding/watering a lot of the animals. As we were walking (and talking) through one of the pastures, the cows started moseying over as they recognized my uncle and thought some grub was headed their way. In a panic, my boyfriend exclaimed "There's No Fence!!!" We both looked at him and said "What?" And he said "There's No Fence and They're headed Right At Us!!!" Uncle and I started laughing as those cows stampeded towards us at a snails pace. And then the (EX) boyfriend hid behind me!

Chicken Butt Cooties!:lol::lol: Sarah, tell your husband to quit licking the outside of the eggs!

Ok, so I am not really a girly girl, or anything but....... Baby goats turn me to MUSH! They have to be the cutest creatures on the planet!!!

OMG! OMG - Sarah!!! Why do hubby's say such stupid things!!!

My friend (who kept chickens in her suburban London garden  ) used to give me half a dozen eggs a week in exchange for all my veg peelings (chickens ate them)

Terry (who insists on 'Free range' from the supermarket) refused to eat them - - wah -- wah !!! ''They have poo on them''

TSK!!!

You can't get much more free range than wandering around the bloomin' garden!!!

Me + Kids loved them! - tasted much better than shop bought and the yolks were a much more vivid yellow for some reason.

...did I ever mention hubby is really funny about his food  ....don't get me started  .....

Nope, not practicing with the choir, but have started with the women's ensemble again. We sing today actually. Yes, our date has changed twice now, but I think we're at Christmas in the Park on the 19th. No solos! :P

What? Like Homer Simpson - dribbling..staring into space...mumbling 'pumpkin tarts' like a mantra

Hum...I don't think I've seen any of the Simpsons shows, but yeah, it sounds a lot like it!! If the case had glass I would have had my nose and hands pressed up agasint it. :P

So much to catch up on!!

Okay, first: What is Giant? We have Giant Tiger up here...not as big as Walmart, but the same idea.

On eggs: Have any of you eaten duck eggs? Incredible. I have never seen such yellow yolks...

We are under a big winter storm advisory...35 cm of snow coming (26 inches) and winds at 60 km/h (hmmmm....about 38mph). In like a lion, for sure!!

BIL is right on board with putting the yeti on his team. It's perfect: we want to keep him secluded, out of sight, and man, you're not gonna find ANYWHERE more secluded than the northern wilderness in mid-winter. BIL wants him soon, to start the training sessions, and of course, wouldn't you know he's asked for his measurements so that he can have a sled harness, and booties, made for him. More measuring......gad....

When he asked me about his personality, and where I thought he would be best placed on the line of fourteen dogs, I thought only for a split second, and yelled.....

Let the Yeti lead!!!

Emily-Giant is like a Safeway or Food Lion....normal sized grocery store. Nothing too fancy. Overall nice store. I am not a fan because in a 5 mile radius of my house I can tell you where at least 10 of them are. They are on every road in my area.

Oh Patti---any winter weather at your house? Nothing here, nothing ever happened.....My mom and Dad have a few inches of snow though...in Scranton (north of Scranton)

From the article you linked: "Currently, there are no recommended methods to test for non-celiac gluten sensitivity." "No recommended methods" is the key phrase here. Just on the anecdotal evidence of reading many posts on this forum, I think we sometimes see some elevated igg test scores with NCGS. They seem to be mildly elevated in these cases, not high high.

Thank you for your reply. I’m beginning to think of iodine as another culprit in this, as much as I fear it. I will say my rash is extreme and diffuse - it’s everywhere! I first had it on both sides of my neck in the summer of 2023. My PCP and dermatologist at the time, thought it was a reaction to jewelry I was wearing, even though I had been wearing the same necklaces for literally years with no reaction. The dermatologist at the time repeated over and over again that “allergies are acquired.” Which I knew. But I was not reacting to any other jewelry I was wearing. So it didn’t make any sense to me that it would only be from my necklaces. Anyway, it abated on it’s own. Only to come back with a vengeance months later - and I had not worn any necklaces at all. And the rash involved more area. I was put on Prednisone (oral steroid) taper and it worked well, and the itch and eventually the rash went away. Another trip to a different dermatologist at that time, prior to starting the Prednisone, told me to change all of my hygiene products like soap and shampoo, and to slather on Vaseline. None of which worked, hence the Prednisone. Needless to say, the itch and subsequent rash returned - and now spread everywhere, not just the hollows on both sides of my neck. It’s there, on my upper chest and left breast, both upper arms front and back, and elbows, my entire back, down both of my hips and buttocks and the front of my right thigh. Now the back of that right thigh is starting to itch as well. Also my lower right forearm and middle knuckle on my left hand since going gluten free. I’m just itching everywhere all the time. It keeps me awake, or wakes me up when I do fall asleep. I’m trying my best not to scratch, but it’s nearly impossible! I’ve been using a dry washcloth to rub instead of scratching. And I have used cool wet washcloths which help, but only lasts for a few minutes before starting up again. I’m pretty much at my wit’s end. Just waiting for something to indicate what’s really going on so I can do SOMETHING to stop it!

Reply to Russ H, Thank you for your input. As a nurse for 46 years I was aware of much of this. However, as a new member to dermatitis herpetiformis, I have been reading and researching everything I can about it in order to educate and help myself. I was hoping that the oral Dapsone would help to alleviate the itching. I knew the rash would take longer to abate. Instead of relief from the Dapsone, I had adverse reactions so had to stop it. After 2 months on it, if hadn’t helped with the itching at all, and I understand it usually helps in the first few days if it’s going to. My itch and rash actually got worse on the Dapsone and with going gluten free - which lead me to question whether I was getting glutined from other products I am using. It’s like a huge puzzle trying to put all these pieces together to somehow make it fit and make sense. Right now, myself and my doctor are perplexed.
