Actually, she looks better in that makeup-less bra-crazed photo than in anything else...but.....something alarming.....does it appear that she may actually have receding poodle gums?????????

:lol::lol: She may, indeed...

...and check our her knee cartilage....

(anything current I listen to is from Canada or Great Britain)

But of course!.... :)

Ohhhhhh myyyyy gaaaaaaaaaaawd - - look at Gus's teeth and gums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quite a snort I had over that photo....how DID you get him to show his expensive grill????????????????

Whoa...just glancing at his new pic again...he looks rather like a corpse...with rigor mortis setting in... :o

MYgawd, what a SCARY place the DMV is (department of motor vehicles for those in other countries)........scads and masses of people.....hundreds were there.....

I FINALLY go my license on the 21st of December. I was still using my old Indiana license ... lived in Ohio for over a year, lol. There was NOBODY there! I had to go to one place to take the test, then another for the license and did it all in about an hour ... it was the Friday before Christmas .... they said Fridays are the busiest days, FYI.

Oh, and no cute guys. Yeah, I have a great looking hubby, but that doesn't mean I don't notice!

And I did notice that I've been gone ALL DAY and you don't talk about me being missing! :(

My son had a roller skating party with his wrestling team .... it was fun ... I hadn't been roller skating on old fashioned roller skates in about 30 years! FUN!

Happy Birthday, Carla!!

...How come you're two? A rebirth of sorts? Two years ago, you began a new, healthy life? These are terrific anniversaries--wish I could remember the exact day I began my gluten-free life...

Apparently, it's not Carla's birthday after all--I found out after I started the birthday thread

It's her anniversary of joining the board. Unless they fell on the same day  I'm confused, but what's new

So, again Carla--Happy Anniversary :)

Hope I got it right this time

A very-UN birthday to Carla!!!!

   I went back a page to see what happened at Amanda's work today (still didn't find it) and saw this, LOL. I didn't want to use my birthday (to much identifying info for the internet), so I put the date I joined the board on as my "birthday", LOL. But thanks for the well-wishes. :)

So, back to see what happened at work with Amanda ....

CarlaB Enthusiast
Today, I believe is Carla's Birthday. She's two years old today. (I guess she gets her kids to do all her house work to stay youthful.) Happy Birthday TWO You! :D

Hee, hee. Nah, they do the housework or it doesn't get done ... I have gotten back to grocery shopping and cooking though .... and they don't do MY chores, just theirs, which happens to include cleaning! :P

:o Amanda - WHAT? What is going on????????? Come on, spill, tell us, we're your sillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drink some hot tea......get a good night's sleep...and tell us what is going on........

We're not just here for silly, you know. :)

Well, Em, you may have scared some people away from here, but not me. Or, maybe it is Gus that scares them--look at those teeth. Anyhow, here I am.

Amanda, I hope it gets better as the days go by.

I have my portable computer back. No parts replaced, just a bad connection fixed up. I'm still having occasional problems, but they are pointing to a software incompatibility problem. These are generally harder to solve, but I never was a hardware guy, especially on laptops, so there is hope.

The "new" software is something I downloaded from the Canada Revenue Agency (our equivalent of the IRS or Inland Revenue) to calculate payroll taxes at 2008 rates. Hmmm. It needed a new version of Java from Sun, which I also downloaded.

I couldn't really describe it while I was there. Anyway, I work with a group of people I never really felt comfortable with....if not one but another, and they do the little things which a lot of people can overlook....talking and gossip and whispering....but after so long its get to me...

Anyway, I have made some mistakes, which everyone there does but it seems when I make mistakes they are all over me and saying how irresponsible I am and things like that...I have another coworker who is going through the same thing so she understands which helps.

The past few weeks things have just been adding up, there is a coworker who I feel is out to make sure I make mistakes...she tells me the wrong things when I ask for help.

Others when I ask for help make me feel like I am a burden.

So today was just the part when I just had enough....It brought me to tears....

I have sat there and wished for bad things to happen so I didn't have to go to work...like being sick or a diaster....I know it sounds childish and horrible. But sometimes you just....oh I don't even know anymore.

So I think I should look for a new job, I don't really want to leave the hospital since I already have 5 yrs in there, but I am not sure where I would want to work outside the hospital.....

Thanks for letting me vent guys....I feel a bit better.

CarlaB Enthusiast

You already have five years ... is there some kind of pension plan or something? If not, it might be a good time to make a move. Life is too short to stay in a bad work environment.

I wouldn't listen to the people giving you wrong advice .... have you tried just asking your boss for help when you need it? Can you change departments?

DingoGirl Enthusiast

This sounds very much like the Mennonite college where I worked for two years. Most people were nice, but there were a few that just made it unbearable.......

I totally understand what this is like......and I think, unfortunately after five years there, patterns and relationships/heirarchies have been established between people.....so it would be hard to restructure.

Can you switch departments?

I'm so sorry you're going through this......it's just awful living with that kind of tension and life IS too short to be in that kind of environment. :(

Oh NO!!!!!!!!! the skank word was used..........my LEAST FAVORITE word ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amanda, If you can't switch departments (or come up with some other way to make your work environment better), you do need to put things in perspective. You've been there 5 years and that seems like a long time because you're 25!!! I'm guessing it's the first real job (not counting the fast food places or temp jobs or whatever). But look at it this way . . . How many years are you planning on working? Would you want them all in the kind of environment you are in? It was hard for me to leave my first employer. I felt some weird sense of loyalty . . . they would have laid my butt off in a heartbeat if they had needed to. Once I left, I couldn't believe I made it as difficult on myself as I did.

However . . . that being said . . . I would see if there was some other position that I could transfer into and if not, look for something else but don't quit until you have something else lined up . . . nobody needs that kind of pressure. Good Luck and Hugs. Things will work out (keep in mind, probably not as quickly as you would like). ;)

~alex~ Explorer

Amanda, that sounds like a REALLY stressful situation. I'm terribly sorry that you have to go through all that. Why do there have to be so many jerks in the world?!?!?! In my limited experience, a bad boss is one thing but there's nothing worse than bad co-workers. I hope you are able to figure things out and find a new job if that's what you ultimately decide to do. In the mean time pamper and treat yourself any way you can to try and keep those stupid co-workers off your mind while you're not at work. I'm sure that's much easier said than done. :(

Morning Sillies

I moved into this department a little over 2 years ago. It was more money and day shift. I can make department moves, I am just trying to figure out what I should try next, the first place I worked here (lab) John and myself both left (turnover is high) due to bad management, no raises, weekends/holidays, and just other stress related factors.

I always felt welcome in the lab. I would go back there, even though I hear it got worse....but I am afraid they will not take me at the rate I make now, and I would want to work 2nd shift, which would mean I would never see John....I am not sure that is the right move either.

Once we have a baby, John would perfer if I worked parttime to be home with our child, in which case, I will try to take up a PT spot in the lab at night. We are going to start trying soon, so maybe a job move is not an option....

I guess I am one of those people who is emotional, but I just would love to feel like I belong.

Hey, Silly Gang...

A bizarre few days we're having weather-wise...10 degrees (50 F), incredible fog all day, making driving quite a trick. All that snow is melting away...could have major flooding along the river. Lotsa work for DH!

A big good morning to you, Amanda...I'm so sorry you're experiencing this kind of stress. We're in our full-time jobs all day long, so an unhappy atmosphere is very taxing and can affect all parts of one's life.

I agree with the others that you should begin actively looking within another department for something. You'd still be in the hospital, but away from the people. One good thing: at least this is something that is potentially easier to fix than if it were the work itself. You can stay in the same hospital enviornment, but switch staff (maybe I'm painting an unrealistically simple world...I'm assuming there will be openings elsewhere!)

You're so young...this is a small part of your entire working life...and this too shall pass.

You sound too talented to be with these wretched co-workers. Put them on here!! We'll chat with them. Actually, I seem to have an innate ability to clear the scene of people...Yes!! guide to them to this site!! You want them out of your life, Let me ask them about receding poodle gums, and yeti allergies, and flowcharts....:lol:

Sillies, I have no silly today in me at all........ :( we just got back from the vet.....the end seems quite near for Stinker......we have her pain meds......the doctor will come HERE to....execute the final act........

I"m sorry.....I can't even talk about it. gotta go. We'll be okay.....when this is all over. But darn it if that Stinkbug hasn't hung on and pulled out of things a zillion times before....I know she won't pull out this time, but she may fight longer than she should.....still has a tail wag and a smile in her.

So.....I'm trying to decide whether to take a gentle drive to the snow today.....mountains, one last time.......if I harness her in, she could be stable....she used to be quite the Snow Sprite.....adorable, frolicking cross-country skier. :)

Yep--slow day....

Amanda, I'm sorry for the way your co-workers are being. What is the matter with people anyway....are you feeling a little better this afternoon?

Susie, I'm beyond sad for you....we had to make a similar decision about our cat, Hudson, years ago. He was actually more like a beagle than a cat--smart as a whip--and personality??? He had kidney disease that was terminal and was in pain--we couldn't let him go on like that. No words of wisdom for you--just know I'm thinking of you and your dear girl.

"Silly Yak thread--not just for giggles"--good one, Bev!

Emily--I look so forward to reading your silliness--you could never drive anyone away. Just a slow computer day, I guess...

You might also be sensitive to other things while you are healing. Dairy, for example. It won't harm you from a celiac standpoint but is inflammatory and could be bothering you. Have you been keeping a food & symptom journal? Might be worth it for a week to see if you notice something you are eating prior to the times you feel your worst. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Someone recently recommended Superfoods for looking up recipes free of allergens or intolerances.  It's a web site but there's also an app.
    • lmemsm
Open Food Facts is a free food database: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/discover  There's an app to access it which is also free (with no in app commercials).   You can use it to look up information about foods such as ingredients, Nova score (to help avoid ultra processed foods), environmental impact and nutritional scores, allergy related information and more.  It can scan a product's barcodes and bring up relevant information about that product.  The project relies on volunteers to share information about products.  We can add information on our favorite gluten free products to share with each other.  It has several gluten free items in the database already:  https://world.openfoodfacts.org/cgi/search.pl?search_terms=gluten+free&search_simple=1&action=process  I think it could make a great tool for people with celiac.
    • lmemsm
You could try white willow bark, but make sure it's in a safe dosage range.  Herbs aren't regulated the way prescriptions are.  White willow bark works a lot like aspirin but is often milder on the stomach.  I used to use Nature's Way white willow bark.  I was told it was corn free at that time.  Double check with the manufacturer to make sure it's free of any of any allergens you're concerned with.
    • Scott Adams
Be sure to bring this up with your doctor, as there is always the possibility that you've got other issues besides celiac disease.
