(Unless Nascar connections count. Everybody in NC has those. )

Sure they count! (As if being close to Mayberry weren't enough!!! )

Martinsville has a track doesn't it?

Some distant relative drives the Tar-zhay (tar-jay?) car in Nascar. No wins yet but he's only 21.

I'll assume it's a pretty piddly connection by NC standards.

P.S. Am I REthroned w/ this post?

Terrifying Breaking News

tonight my neighbors and I had a little gathering in my living room, to talk about our situation with those kids. My disabled neighbor told us something scary...the other night the kids were standing on their front porch and her kitchen window sits off this stoop. It was 2am. So all the lights were off. She had heard voices so she crept into the kitchen and listened....what they talked about scared her. They were talking about firebombing cars, beating someone up, killing people, blaming their crimes on others, having aylabis (spelling?) She couldnt call anyone since she didnt have a phone. They only have a cell phone in her apartment and her daugther was working late and had it....

We are dealing with much worse than we first thought.

:o

That's really scary that your neighbor is there by herself without a phone.

Random thing I feel the need to suggest:

They have really good Virgin Mobile pay as you go phones at Target for $20. Maybe she could get one so she's a little safer?

Ok all, thanks for the warm wishes. I believe she is going to talk to someone tomorrow....How nutsy is that...so scary too! If you ever saw where I lived you would not believe this could happen here.

It is nice to have the neighbors I have we look out for each other.

Send the Yeti our way we can use him!!!

For some reason, I never count Mayberry. I guess I've been close to it for too long. I go to Mt. Airy because it's got the closest Wal-mart. I worked at the Mayberry Blockbuster when I was in college.

Martinsville- yup. You're related to Reed Sorenson? That's not too piddly- it's an actual blood relation. No relation is too distant in the south. You're approved. B)

She is on disability, and lives pay check to pay check, her daughter lives with her. The woman has a cell phone but her daugther was traveling this weekend. So the cell phone went with her.

We did decided on always knowing if she will be alone without the phone on a weekend.

Excellent idea! If I had a neighboUr like that, I would pay for her phone myself. It would mean someone watching over my place when I'm not there.

Night Sillies. Got a big day of shopping at Lowes tomorrow and layin' supplies for the big winter storm. Keep your fingers crossed for a snow day on Friday!

Ridgewalker Contributor

They were indeed chocolate chip- good call guys- and according to Luke, they were still gooey when he ate them. :D

My only current goal is to outlaw explosive body fluids for at least 24 hours! :yawwwwn: BTW, I was wrong about Ezra's strep. It's yet ANOTHER sinus infection. This one is so bad that the drainage caused a rash of bumps in his throat.

Since he had a fairly high fever all last night, and I did not sleep-- WHY am I still up!?!?!?! -- but is a lovely 98.7 tonight... I'm off to bed too.

Night everybody!

Janet we are expecting an ice storm Friday. I am not looking forward to it.

Night Sillies it has been one LONG day!

Wish I could've commented all day, but most of the reading was at stoplights!

And (yay!) shot hoops today for a while. Yup . .. .nice sunny day. No thundersnow & no earthquake.

Yes....my children know all about this hilarious development in Sillyville, and my son apparently took the story to school with him, and shared it with his classmates in circle time. Oh, Gawd....

"My mom knows these other celiacs, and talks to them on the internet. They are keeping count of their farts for 12 hours, and reporting their number to each other throughout the day". OMG OMG. I have a meeting there today at three.:lol:

Anyone there ask for a current subtotal?

Just thought I would tattle on Mango . . .

<emily said claptrap!>

I thought maybe she was trying to simulate caligraphy or something . . . . . . at a minimum, implying that her pharts are prettier than ours.

Haaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

Just looking at that sentence continues to crack me up. <look. .. .LOL .. .look .. .LOL & repeat>

Morning, Everybodyyyyy....

we have a new monarch!! A Thousand Hails to thou, Queen Sarah! I am sorry to hear that our Prince Ezra has some nasty sinus stuff happening..we must send the private royal doctor at once!

Wanted to get on here early to say good morning to you, Amanda, and catch up on all that transpired last night. Hope the police have their radars up for you guys, and will be ready to pounce if anything else transpires. Keep starin' them down, brave girl! :)

My only current goal is to outlaw explosive body fluids for at least 24 hours!

The Queen Speaketh, and she maketh terrific proclamations...How about taking the Phart Charts down to zero, across the land? To include the spouses of all subjects.....

My meeting at Jack's school was put off until this afternoon (looks like I'll be teaching some art there--yippeeee!), but DS has told me that there has been great interest generated within the math department in regards to our intricate....charting and graphing. This is a Montessori school, so they take each and every opportunity to learn, to form life lessons from the most ordinary of things....

Stay tuned...you have all been warned...:lol:

Morning All,

Hi Emily-well indeed it was a quiet night, I actually got sleep and stayed asleep all night with just one sleeping pill! I am not sure if the cops are hiding undercover but hopefully they catch those kids soon. My neighbor said the kids were not there at all, so the cops were maybe letting the mother (who is a HUGE Airhead) know the seriousness of the situation?? If I have to take a gander.

The pow-wow I had with my neighbors in my living room gave us all a chance to vent and to make a plan for each other. When my disabled woman told us of their talks outside, fire bombs and pinning crimes on others, even having a cover-person at a hospital somewhere....well that is scary, I don't know what to go through next. This has taken on a new level now, those things they talked about were things I never thought about....unimaginable things....its put a whole new world of worry into your mind.

Oh and they smoke pot openly outside...how dumb can you be? Especially if one is on probation....After all that they should be caught....just for being stupid!

Ok thanks Trents. I had the lesions biopsied and confirmed dermatitis herpetiformis, so I guess dermatitis herpetiformis can be associated with other grains not typically gluten. I appreciate your comment and I'll give Dr Osborne the benefit of the doubt because without him I would never have known of my grain intolerance and would still be suffering today. I simply never read anyone explain how grains could worsen dermatitis herpetiformis and I feel that information should be made much more readily available. Hey if someone tries going grain free and there's no improvement, no loss, however it drastically changed my life for the better and could at least be offered as a suggestion to sufferers from dermatitis herpetiformis. The other option is Dapsome and I wouldn't want anyone taking that chemical if there was a more natural solution. thanks again

Welcome to the forum, @Richardo! We sometimes run across terms like "rice gluten", "corn gluten", and "oat gluten" but they are used informally and, technically, it is incorrect to speak of grains other than wheat, barley and rye as having gluten. Gluten is a protein with a specific structure found only in wheat, barley and rye. Other cereal grains contain proteins that are more or less similar in structure to gluten in some ways but are not actually gluten. Having said that, the proteins found in these other cereal grains are similar enough to gluten to possibly cause cross reactivity in some celiacs. Cross reactivity also happens with non cereal grain foods as well that have a protein structure similar to gluten. A prime example is dairy (the protein "casein"). Another example may be soy. Other foods can also cause cross reactivity for different reasons, such as microbial transglutaminase (aka, "meat glue") used commonly in pressed meat products. Just so you'll know, Dr. Osborne's claims have not received wide acceptance in the celiac community and are looked upon with skepticism by the medical and scientific community. Although he is a board certified nutritionist, his doctorates are actually in chiropractic medicine and pastoral science: https://www.drpeterosborne.com/about/dr-peter-osborne/ I am not sure Osborne has the training and background to address the chemical structure that defines gluten. I would encourage you to do some research on what gluten actually is. I have done this for myself and came away convinced that only wheat, barely and rye actually contain the protein gluten. I do not doubt your claims that you have breakouts of dermatitis herpetiformis from consuming these other grains. I am just contending it is not actually from gluten.

I was diagnosed celiac about 15 years ago and followed the usual diet restriction on Wheat, barley and rye and did very well on those restrictions with no problems with dermatitis herpetiformis. 4 years ago I started getting bad rashes on my knees and calves, buttocks, around my waist and my elbows and forearms and hands. It seemed to last about 11/2 to 2 months then clear up for a month and come back  again. I never changed anything in my diet and a dermatologist told me I  must getting  cross contamination, which I knew I wasn't.  Finally after struggling with it all that time, I watched a video by Dr Osborne who sited a study done in England showing that ALL grains (rice, corn etc) contain gluten. I went on a totally grain free diet and have now been 100 percent free of dermatitis herpetiformis for over a year. I tried a test and ate corn flour and it started to come back so I'm off all grains again. Long story I know, but my question is, why is practically EVERY celiac site private or Govt only mentioning the BIG 3 and never mentions other grains as a possible means of contamination? I am free  from a horribly uncomfortable condition now and I know there are others who would be encouraged by this.

Your chest pain could be related to the Sarcoidosis. "When it affects the lungs, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, or chest pain may occur." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcoidosis   The bowel incontinence could be caused by surgical damage (or scar tissue) to the cauda equina nerve bundle in the lumbar area of the spine. Or, it could be related to unintentional gluten exposure.

Diabetes type 1 or type 2? Type 2 diabetes has a statistical correlation with celiac disease.  The B vitamins work in synergy with one another so I still would recommend a B-complex. This may also help your anemia which is evident from your low ferritin, hematocrit and hemoglobin.  Your "chest pain arm pain and burning with increased weakness in my legs" would seem to correspond to the areas of your spine where you have had surgeries. My observation is that spinal surgeries seldom prove to be successful in the long term as they don't address underlying degenerative problems.  I will attach embed an article which may be helpful to you in eliminating gluten from your life. There is usually a real learning curve involved in achieving gluten free eating habits on a consistent basis as gluten is hidden in so many food products where you would never expect to find it and can be masked by terminology such "food starch". Eating out is the number one way to sabotage your efforts to eat gluten free as even when you order things that are naturally gluten free they often become cross contaminated with wheat back in the kitchen by being prepared and handled along with wheat containing foods. Another factoid that you need to be aware of is that for mature adults, it typically takes 2-3 years after achieving a consistently gluten free diet for the mucosa of the small bowel to experience complete healing. However, considerable improvement in symptoms usually occurs in a matter or weeks or months.
