Good news to report. Colin's wonder woman social worker worked her magic and the VON will be coming daily to his place until he is well enough to resume taking care of himself. They'll make sure meds are being taken, meals are being eaten and all of that important stuff. It's a big relief! My dad said Colin has a pretty rough night last night -- hallucinating and a bit combative (both Colin and I have a penchant for hallucinating when ill with a high fever) -- but I spent the morning with him today and he was sleeping peacefully. I think I'll go back to spend the evening with him and then my dad will stay overnight with him. I'm just so glad he's going to have a professional checking in on him everyday.

Thanks for the good thoughts. I really appreciate it.

So John is on his way back to the dr, his family dr, yesterday he was seen in our hospitals clinic. They gave him Cipro, which he started taking, now he has a rash going up his arms which is itchy and huge. He also feels floored as he describes it to me. So now he is off to the dr. Hope he gets better soon. I am really worrying about him.

Your John has really had a rough time of it lately. I hope he gets better soon and stays better. Sounds like an possible allergy to the antibiotic -- good idea that he's going to get it checked out by the doc.

Alex - good news on your brother. What a sweet, caring little family unit you have there. :)

Amanda - yes, you two have had a rough go of it lately, adn it DOES sound like an allergic reaction - I would think they'd take him off that antibiotic immediately........ anyway, so nice you have your wonderful neighbors, and they have you.... :)

And in other news.....

Annie is acting so strangely for the last week or so....I don't know what to do. :( I don't know if this is grieving behavior, or if something is physically wrong with her. She has elevated triglycerides and - lipids, maybe? And I can't get her to lose weight....I worry about diabetes w/ her...dear gawd........

may have to consult the experts on this......she doesn't even sit in the same room w/ me for the last few dyas....goes off by herself in an odd place, and whines frequently. This just started......

Hey Laura :D

Amanda, that RSV sounds scary. I have been reading that the hospitals are full all over the country with babies coming down with this virus.

Sorry about your hubby too, it does sound like an allergic reaction to the meds.

Julie, I share your fear of getting my hair cut...as most don't realise that once it's dry it springs up to HALF the length than when it was wet :o ....and I can't cut me own hair  ..... shall I fly out to do yours????

I am actually thinking of having it cut like Open Original Shared Link....but am VERY scared..........whatchall think??????????

Or better yet, we ALL can fly out to you, you can cut my hair, and then we will go Hugh Grant hunting, kidnap him and hold him hostage in the Silly thread :D

I am terrified of cutting mine short...its soooo thick, not only does it spring up but it springs OUT. Not pretty, kind of like a Chaka Kahn/Diana Ross the big hair days phenomenon.

The Kylie cut is very cute, I would love to have a wash and go, less maintenance "do".

Keep us posted if you go through with it!

My daughter is out for one more (and hopefully last) day. Could you please send any work home with her brother and we will get started catching up. Or for all you teachers that hate to see a preposition at the end of a sentence . . . We will get started with the up catching.

For all you curly haired girls, there's a book called (I think) Curly Girl. My hairdresser, who is part of my commute group recommended it to the one woman with curly hair. It's apparently got some useful tips.

Thanks for the book suggestion Jess! I'll look for it when I go purchase Donna's make-up/makeover book

 lotsa rat-a-tats, eh? Forgot to mention - be sure you are able to discern the subtle but distinct differences of zipper farts vs. machine gun farts.

OMG - the grammies (grammys?) - -

the only enjoyable moment for me was Keely Smith singing with - OMG - what's-his-name...Pam Anderson's second- or third-ex husband...that skanky thang w/ the long stringy hair.....

I watched!

Well the first two hours anyway, and then I tivoed the rest, switched to Brothers and Sisters, then rewatched the third hour after that.

My favorite performances were Josh Groban/Andrea Bocelli, the Cirque de Soleil Beatles tribute (I was actually moved to tears when they started singing Let It Be), and Alicia Keyes/John Mayer.

I have no wisdom to share, just hugs and pats to the  bug!!

Are you going to take her in for a doggie check-up?

Thanks for the tip on the Ouidad products btw, I have seen that on an infomercial perhaps? Or maybe it was a home shopping network?

Patti must not be feeling better :(

Well here I am home in bed with a stomach bug....it came on quickly too, right before lunch I felt a little yuck, than I went back to my desk and I was running to the bathroom, my coworkers were going to drive me home, they told me I was very pale. So I felt better and I came home and here I am....feeling gross!

The stomach bug made its rounds through the office all weekend adn we have one woman off today with it. Yuck!

 *snort*

no, making sh!t up would be the correct phrasal verb, also.

  I just love Emily for pointing this stuff out, it cancels out any talk about your scary EVIL st - - st - - stat - - - statistics and mathS and crap like dat......:lol:

Well the first two hours anyway, and then I tivoed the rest, switched to Brothers and Sisters, then rewatched the third hour after that.

OMG - I loathe this show - Brothers and Sisters.....and yet.....I will confess....I do watch it at times. The most insipid, overwrought, ridiculous story lines and characters. And yet strangely....I am occasionally drawn.......and think, I"ll just watch a few minutes to see what ridiculousness these people are UP TO <two prepositions forming a phrasal verb, Emily? > and then next thing I know, between reading whatever I'm reading and half-arsed watching, I've watched the whole blasted programME. Don't even get me started with how many things are wrong wtih that show........including the b*astard child of the dead father, product of his secret 20-plus-year affair - living in his widow's home, with her half-siblings.... yeah, right. <_<

Forgot to say, HI LAURA!!!!!!! :)

Amanda - oh BUGGER THAT! :( Well, the only thing I can say about the stomach flu is that I would welcome it as a possible way to lose a few pounds.

Ohhhh, it's cold here. Minus fifteen. Blechhhh....

Yikes!!!! It barely matters whether that's C or F!!

A little unseasonable, but it's another day in shorts for many here. :P

I noticed the word in the hilarious site that Janet posted...an unofficial Canadian dictionary. Arseveur is likely from the East Coast boating communities, denoting one end of a canoe or rowboat ("that there's the end where the arse of hers goes. Mine goes up here").....

Ahhhhhhhhhh-HA!! Thank you Em!

I clicked the link & bkmrkd it, but went straight back to the silly-catchup.

Tom!! Did you chart them? Did they form a fascinating astrological symbol, something that coincides with certain planetary positions and yearly cycles? Could be in the shape of a hippopotamus, or gerbil. Maybe it could reveal to you your Totem, or Norse Rune....:lol::lol:

Oh wacky wacky Em

 lotsa rat-a-tats, eh? Forgot to mention - be sure you are able to discern the subtle but distinct differences of zipper farts vs. machine gun farts.

 uh-oh . .. . .hmmmmm I'm pretty sure zipper was the proper category but am intrigued by this talk of the subtleties of differential distinctions.

1st thought of distinction is NOT subtle in the least - that being volume. (In the auditory sense, not cubic area, tho I may be able to get a gov't grant to determine a correlation coefficient. ANOVA may be req'd)

As a sound wave, I might expect zippers to be closer to a sawtooth, and machine-gunners more like a square wave.

Please elaborate.

OMG - the grammies (grammys?) - - what a wretched, class-less lot of rubbish....I am so disappointed, every year......um, people don't really even SING any more......they just.....talk.....w/ weird outfits on and stupid getups (Kanye's glasses/costume). Rap, my friends, if I may state a strong opinion, is the DEATH of a society, I have decided.

Didn't watch the Grammys, but I'm right w/ ya on this. To me the worst part is people thinking of themselves as musicians when all they do is manipulate ACTUAL musician's music, whether it's buttonpushing or toying w/ a spinning record. Bah!!

Some years ago diddypuffywhatever WON a Grammy for rapping over an unadulterated Sting song!!!!!!!?????

Don McClean(sp?) can add a verse to that "chevy to the levie, whiskey & rye" biz, because THAT, my friends, was a Day the Music Died.

If talk is turning to particles, how about we start w/ the Higg's Boson, or the extreme difficulty of building a neutrino counter!!:D:)

....goes off by herself in an odd place, and whines frequently.

Sounds like me last night. Fine most of the day, but as roommate consumes beer after beer, becoming more illogical & loud w/ each, I feel better leaving the room.

(Pseu-zee's not psipping & tippling all day I'll assume, so don't think I'm proffering relevance)

Roomie hasn't been spending as much time smashed as he had been tho and even went 10 days w/out a drop recently.

But he's also been here for 3wks, I think, straight, and the deal I signed up for had him out of town 4days/wk, 12wks per quarter.

He does head to Indy tomorrow.

I'll see if I can get him to walk around exclaiming to blonde strangers "YOU'RE darn tootin'!!".

Listen for it.

OMG - so true. Um, Kanye is ONLY famous because he's very attractive, moody, and does clever things w/ other people's songs (GoldDigger - a perfect example, clever song but based on Ray Charles's - I forgot the name). Last night......OMG. He wasn't even singing - just kneeling on teh ground talking out his woeful lament. But, because it was about his late mother, it was called "powerful and emotional....." Dude. *I* can do that. I"ll just write a song about my dead Stinker, ramble/rap it out on youtube and pretty soon I"LL be famous.

OMG - Gail has pointed out that......maybe Annie thinks I"m a murderess and responsible for Tika's death, hence she fears for her life, :o or just doesn't respect me any more.

:huh::lol::(

Um, no, I wasn't drinking all day yesterday and acting like Loud, Illogical John. We went to brunch at my mom's, so there were nine of her beloved human pack members there, but the Weasel just kept walking around whining to everyone. V. unusual behavior.

Oh!! I'm afraid I MUST, at this time, insert a mini (I promise) grammar lesson. This will make everyone feel a little better, perhaps less intimidated, by the dreaded preposition usage.

Janet, your original use of "up" in your note was correct, and needed no alteration. This is due to the fact that it was part of what we call a phrasal verb. These are maddening (at least, for second-language learners) verb forms that consist of a verb and one or more prepositions. Together they act as one word, a verb, and are treated as such grammatically. Sentences in English can correctly end with a verb, therefore they can end with a phrasal verb. There are hundreds of these in our idiom. You used catch up, Janet, meaning to get past work done. There's break off, carry out, do without, give up, look for, etcetera etcetera.

...And therefore, the beautiful quote of my all-time hero W. Churchill is in fact unnecessary. He could correctly have said, "Ending a sentence with a preposition is something that I shall not put up with", as "put up with" is a phrasal verb.

Are your lips moving???

Blah, blah blah :lol::lol: <cannot compute,cannot compute>

nikki - the haircut - -not sure. Kylie's hair is not as curly as yours, would you be fighting with it quite a bit to maintain this 'do?

WHY YES!!! Susie!, how very clever of you....I was kind of thinking this myself...an element of straighteners required....but is that worse than the 20 mins it takes to get a comb through the frizzbomb (AKA 'Amy-do')?????

Unfortunately in England our Social Workers AND Mental Health System is hideously underfunded and daily visits would NEVER occur

I am terrified of cutting mine short...its soooo thick, not only does it spring up but it springs OUT. Not pretty, kind of like a Chaka Kahn/Diana Ross the big hair days phenomenon.

Get in line, missy!!!! You will find, once you catch up with your reading, that you are not alone in your pukiness. . . seriously, though, hope you are feeling well soon.

I stopped by the kids' school this afternoon (taking my recovering daughter with me - she's on her "must be 24 hours fever-free" day) and they said they were dropping like flies. The school nurse was out sick and there were sick kids laying on the cots in her office waiting for parents to come get them. Apparently there has been a major egress of children all day.

You are welcome! We frequently get similar comments. Knowledge about celiac disease in the medical community at large is, unfortunately, still significantly lacking. Sometimes docs give what are obviously bum steers or just fail to give any steering at all and leave their patients just hanging out there on a limb. GI docs seem to have better knowledge but typically fail to be helpful when it comes to things like assisting their patients in grasping how to get started on gluten free eating. The other thing that, to me at least, seems to be coming to the forefront are the "tweener" cases where someone seems to be on the cusp of developing celiac disease but kind of crossing back and forth over that line. Their testing is inconsistent and inconclusive and their symptoms may come and go. We like to think in definite categorical terms but real life isn't always that way.

Hey @Morgan Tiernan, Sounds just like my experience. I was diagnosed with dermatitis herpetiformis over 10 years ago. It appeared suddenly as a very itchy rash which looked like Eczema. When a steroid cream didn't clear it up, my Dermatologist (who had come across it before) suspected dermatitis herpetiformis and performed a skin biopsy which came back positive for dermatitis herpetiformis. The important thing is to get a definitive diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis. What you've described sounds like classic dermatitis herpetiformis though. Hopefully, your Dermatologist has come across dermatitis herpetiformis before and performs the skin biopsy correctly as trents mentioned. I've had the blisters on the knees, hips, forearms/elbows or anywhere that pressure is applied to the skin ... from clothing or otherwise. They itch like nothing on earth, and yes salt from sweat or soaps/shower gels will irritate a lot. I've been on Dapsone and it is very very effective at eliminating the dermatitis herpetiformis itch, and improved my quality of life in the early stages of getting on top of dermatitis herpetiformis while I adjusted to the gluten-free diet. But it does have various side effects as trents said. It can effect the red blood cells, lowering hemoglobin and can cause anemia, and requires regular blood monitoring whilst on it. You would need to consider it carefully with your Dermatologist if you do have dermatitis herpetiformis. Here's a very informative webinar from Coeliac Canada discussing everything dermatitis herpetiformis related.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAdmsNiyfOw I've also found this recent interview with a Dermatologist about dermatitis herpetiformis to be educational.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZnLeKutgUY Keep the chin up and keep advocating for yourself for a proper diagnosis. Though it sounds like you're on top of that already. Are you in the UK or Ireland? I'm curious because your surname is Irish.

Thanks again everyone! Twenty mins on here way more helpful than both Dr's combined 😅

I would go for four weeks to ensure a valid test, if you can tolerate it, that is.
