Hmmmmmm please do . .. .. .tom's all too curious . .. ...doubting it's the Carson McCullers' bit, but did love some of her work. :)

No - 'tis not. I tried to read a book of hers - The Heart is a Lonely Hunter? don't think I finished it......during the malnutrition/exhaustion/pre-dx years........

the piano analogy is simply this - - (dear gawd, pour yerselves a tall glass o' the phaerie to get through this lengthy dribble drivel? rambling.....

we had an ancient family piano in our home, a great uncle's. It was a HUGE dinosaur - a reproducing player piano - worth a little bit of $$. I studied classical piano for many, many years - started at age 5 - tried so hard - could never read notes. EVER. Can't make the hand-eye-brain connection.......intensely frustrating for me......

I started again with a virtuoso teacher in my early twenties - practiced DAMN hard - up to five hours a day for about five years. I am not a naturally gifted pianist.....

BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <imagine that>

Well, in my mid-twenties, I wanted a piano at my apartment.....wanted to sell the Dinosaur and get a small, lovely, black satin upright.

I must have played - during a one-year period - about 100 pianos. Tested them everywhere - the ones in our price range, our of our range, in stores, homes, colleges, everywhere. Nothing felt.......exactly right.

Until one day.........I walked in - again - to a local music store......and walked over to the most beautiful black satin upright - somehow had missed it before (love at second sight!!!!!!!!!). Sat down and slaughtered played a Scarlatti sonata.........and I was instantly, magically, head-over-heels in LOVE. I had found.......The One, and I knew it the instant I caressed the keys.

alas, this piano was nearly $4000, and we hadn't even sold OUR piano yet.

So......my dad was quite sick w/ cancer, but we took our old dinosaur to this music store. Unbeknownst to me, the piano sold for nearly 10k, and my parents got - I think? - at least half of that money. But they didn't tell me it had sold, and my heart was breaking, aching, DYING for my Everett piano (w/ Yamaha inner workings).

On my birhtday, on December 9th, 1987, guess what showed up at my house. Don't think I even need to tell you how I sobbed and wept and rejoiced.

My dad died three months later - March 12 - this year will be 20 years.

Years later, when I first lived in Monterey, my friend Sophie's husband, a phenomenal pianist/musician with a doctorate in musicology from Rutger's - rented my piano for one year. He fell in love with it also, as did eveyrone who played it.

Two years ago, in a state of pure poverty, I sold that piano - which was MOCKING me from the den - to my dear friend and college roommate in San Jose. I needed money, and she wanted the piano. Which means - - I get to have it back someday. :) I will see it this weekend.

So......................the moral of this story is - - sometimes you just KNOW THINGS.

Susie, you and David are in my thoughts. I do hope this all works out. Check your PMs for another thought that I don't want to expose here.

Thank you, Peter. I read your sweet pm.

good thing about the delivery today! uneventful is good. :)

No - 'tis not. I tried to read a book of hers - The Heart is a Lonely Hunter?

I read that and another and found them both intriguing/interesting & .. . .<gah just had the words> . .... ..strangely/grotesquely enchanting. (More the one w/ the midget for the grotesquely)

BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <imagine that>

Okay, so Nikki has recruited me over here from a technical thread. How do I ease myself into such frenzied madness that is the Tickle Me thread?

Frenzied Madness back at page 117 . . . what should we call it now? Tornadic Insanity?

I remember when you arrived. Page 120??? I would've guessed 140-150.

I came in at 154 . . . in mid-September . . . WOW!!! You guys talk a lot!!! You do realize that we are producing more pages/day than OMG. Why, in a mere 2 years, 3 months and 16 days, we will overcome them!!!

I just have to say that Indiana is pretty much in the middle. :)

:lol::lol: Tom tinkled :lol::lol: . . . Wait!! What!?! . . . Detinkeld?? . . . How in the hell do you do that?? :lol::lol:

Arrrrgggg, stupid insomnia! Fourth night in a row that I've been awake since 2:00am even though I went to bed before 11 . I decided to get up tonight instead of just lying awake in bed. Here's a little something funny for everyone that I found:

Two doctors opened an office in a small town and put up a sign reading: "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones, Psychiatry and Proctology."

The town council was not happy with the sign, so the doctors changed it to "Hysterias and Posteriors."

This was not acceptable either, so in an effort to satisfy the council they changed the sign to "Schizoids and Hemorrhoids." No go.

Next, they tried "Catatonics and High Colonics." Thumbs down again.

Then came "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives." Still not good.

Another attempt resulted in "Minds and Behinds." Unacceptable again.

So they tried "Lost Souls and A$$ Holes." No way.

"Analysis and Anal Cysts?" Nope.

"Nuts and Butts?" Uh uh.

"Freaks and Cheeks?" Still no go.

"Loons and Moons?" Forget it.

Almost at their wit's end, the doctors finally came up with: "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones, Odds and Ends."

Oh gawd I'd fallen asleep watching tv, then when I woke up something was on where someone asked someone what to do & I thought the response should be "just %$#@ do it", so I naturally thought of this!

ROFL (I need to get back to sleep)

Can we ramp up production so it's only 2yrs and 2 months? I'm busy in June of 2010 and don't wanna miss the parade!!

I just have to say that Indiana is pretty much in the middle. :)

Thank God there aren't more Brits [edit: Hi Nik!! No offense!!!] or we might have to meet on a BOAT!!

Re: meeting up in the middle . . . it would only require half as many phrequent phlyer miles to bring Nikki to the US as it would to take to get Kissey2 to England.

Morning Sillies!!! We are almost to the weekend! Yea! Work has been so busy that the days seem to slip by quickly. John wants to take me on a surprise trip this weekend. We have been fighting quite a bit lately and it turns out it was due to his meds he takes for his neuropathy. He talked to his Dr about everything going on and she is going to take him off the meds. He kept telling her he didn't feel anything was different but I was telling him how mean and different he was acting. She told him the meds were doing it and he probably never realized he was acting that way. So we are going to take a small trip and start to get to know each other again.

I came in at 154 . . . in mid-September . . . WOW!!! You guys talk a lot!!! You do realize that we are producing more pages/day than OMG. Why, in a mere 2 years, 3 months and 16 days, we will overcome them!!!

I came in August or September. When we were planning the parade I stumbled in. I haven't found a reason to leave yet....or maybe I cannot overcome the vortex to get out....

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I used to hate that. Hour after hour lying awake . .. .

I know that feeling....lying awake trying to get to sleep....that was my problem, seems to be getting better though.

elye Community Regular

Morning, All.....!!

Alex, I had an uncharacteristic poor night's sleep, as well. Not FOUR NIGHTS like you, however....you must feel crappy. Good to see you on here, tryin' fer silly...... :)

Love your piano story, Susie. :)

You will be playing for us when we all meet...this narrows down our rendezvous location--must house a black satin upright...

I've called several LCBOs in my mad search for absinthe...the locations that I couldn't get through to by phone are the ones I struggled to yesterday, spinning tires, pushing stuck seniors' station wagons out of snowbanks, sliding precariously toward light standards....

Will try one more today. We leave tomorrow, so once we are there I will check out the nearby depanneur....

Hi, Amanda! You're on a trip this weekend, as well! Come up to the Laurentians with your ski gear....I'll have hot drinks ready by our big stone fireplace!

Computer geeks might find this amusing.

I was debating with our IT guy on what to name the new computer. It's designed to run a lot of statistical processes.

He suggested Einstein, Socrates, Plato

I countered with Montalcini, Nightingale

He thought those would be hard to say so he suggested Artemis (because we're hunting for associations).

I responded with Hypatia and there it stayed for a couple days.

Well, the machine came in and the tower is a rich glossy black and it does calculations like you wouldn't believe. So he decided it should be a black goddess. And now we have Nefertiti. And she is amazing.

Hello @Cathijean90 Firstly, welcome to the forum, you have come to the right place! I know this is much easier to say than to do, but try not to worry.  Whilst it is awful on so many levels that you have only just found out that Coeliac Disease is the issue behind all your problems, when you could have known 15 years ago, as Trents has said, it is really not at all uncommon for people to have symptoms for years before the doctors know what they are dealing with.  I was worried, too, that I'd never get better when I was first diagnosed.  My nutritionist said it wasn't too late and I didn't believe her!  But you know what -  I am feeling so much better now.  I've known of people living near me who were diagnosed in their 70s and 80s and have bounced back, and my consultant has even diagnosed someone in their 90s!  So being diagnosed older is something that also happens a lot. I am now in my 50s but my first symptoms, looking back, probably started with bouts of diarrhea in my teens and terrible nauseating migraines in my 20s, with a mouth full of ulcers twice in my 30s, aura migraines starting with my first pregnancy at 34, hallucinations with both pregnancies and a pre-term baby with my second pregnancy.  Weird liver function tests suggestive and iron deficiency, which sent me into a spin because my GP said it might be a type of cancer, then blood in my stools and clinical anxiety in the months prior to my diagnosis.    Wow - what gluten can do to someone!  But now, apart from a few minor issues with aura migraines, these issues have gone away.  It has been so worth giving up gluten, people say I have good self-control but frankly, and I am sure you feel the same, knowing how sick gluten can make us, I'm not remotely interested in eating gluten ever again! I've recently discovered my GP didn't tell me my cholesterol is creeping up when he tested me three years ago.  If I had known I'd have started being much more careful with my diet.  I dread to think what my cholesterol levels are now,  I'll have to do a test sooner or later but I do need to try to do something about it now.  So I do relate with your situation. To have not had the diagnosis passed onto you is awful.  But the good news is you do know now.   Also, you will be taking your diet seriously, which will give you the best chance of a good recovery.   Kick gluten out of your diet, get your doctor to run some tests to see if you have any vitamin deficiencies, and address those, and also see if you have any thyroid issues which occasionally affect coeliacs and can be easily treated.   Build your strength up with the best whole food you can manage, and try to take one day at at time.  On having children:  my friend had a series of miscarriages before she was diagnosed with coeliac disease, and then when she started a gluten free diet, no more - she carried two more pregnancies to term.   I am so glad you have a faith, my Christian faith has been a huge help to me on my journey.   Two  books on anxiety and depression too, helped, if you feel you are struggling with either or both.  The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs, by Dr Steve Llardi, and At Last a Life by Paul David.  Both available online. Come back to us if you have any more questions.  You are not alone. Cristiana

Thank you for your answer. I read it here: https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/non-celiac-gluten-sensitivity/ With the title "What’s the Difference Between Gluten Sensitivity and Celiac Disease?"

For me I gave up oat products and it finally cleared. I had a whole body reaction for months. Two additional culprits for me: shared grill at a restaurant or a shared toaster.  Hope you have relief soon.

It can take between 6 months and 2 years for the dermatitis herpetiformis rash to resolve. The symptoms of dermatitis herpetiformis arise from deposits of certain antibodies building up in the skin. These deposits attract immune cells leading to inflammation and blistering. It can take 10 years for the deposits to be reabsorbed although symptoms resolve long before this.
