Emily, I wanted to tell you I was thinking about your dad a lot this afternoon. Just kept popping into my head at odd moments. Hope he's doing well. Tell him that we love him!

Oh, and I read a saying in a book yesterday that I'm dying to work into a conversation, and who knows how long that will take, so I'll just share it with you guys. I'd never heard it before, and I LOVE it:

It's wonderful news and I am quite certain the answer to his depressive problems. The mixed emotions come into play, I think because it's a little wierd to be happy for someone diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease.

It's 4:20 am here. I woke up coughing my head off, and I'm waiting for the Nyquil to kick in.

You poor thing--this darn (sorry Janet) cough hangs on forever. Glad the steroids are helping with the inflammation.

I dunno- I read it in a Heather Graham novel. An old Irish lady said it, and it cracked me up for hours! It must be an old saying, but I'd never heard it before!

This is actually the first Graham novel I've read- I picked it up in the drugstore, saw it was about ghosts, and figured I'd finally give her a try. I love scary books. This one isn't scary, but it's a passable page turner.

Man, I missed another hilarious flurry of posts last night. I must change my circadian rhythm, somehow, so that I remain awake later. I'll start fooling around with the melatonin capsules I have....

OMG - QUITE riveting - her face - - OMG - - I think she looks like - can I say it? - a smashed Barbie doll head - - you know when you'd take the Barbie's head and squish it, like it was pressed in an elevator?

I used to do this with my barbies as a kid....There was a girl in my class whose face frighteningly resembled my Suntan Barbie's face when I squished it the other way--from the top and bottom.. My friend and I were so cruel....squishing the head and chanting, "Caroline Watson! Caroline Watson!"

Oh...... Any chance ya think Caroline is newly diagnosed, and skimming through these posts? I'll chance it, and leave the name in. But if there's suddenly a new member with a name like "collapsedpiggyface", alert me.

I have done some "neo fauve" paintings. Must remember to use more absinthe, next time. They are.....quite coloUrful, still.

Ohhhhh! My least favorite period....I've tried and tried, but just cannot embrace those colours, subject matter, etc. Yes, I should tipple some absinthe and have another look....

My dad has a few classic lines that are like that....short and sweet, but difficult to work into a conversation. My favorite: In a situation where someone is talking about a person you cannot stand, and saying something like, "Well, he's actually very nice, even though he can be a pain", you can respond with....

"Yeah? Well.......Sugar and sh!t make a sweet turd".......

Oh . . . that's a keeper . . . although I'm usually the one trying to give someone the benefit of a doubt and trying to be nice and b!tch about them in the same sentence. So watch for me in the future and then throw that line out!!

Kid story from Thursday . . .

My kids and my friend (&neighbor)'s son take an art class together so we take turns driving all the kids (Have you seen the price of gas?). She has two younger kids that also ride along so she has quite a carfull. It's about a 12 minute drive and with 5 kids in the car, it doesn't take near that long to get all wound up. So as they arrived, she asked for the three who were going into class to "calm down" . . . "Let's all walk in calmly". So my son (the oldest in the group) says in a frantic voice . . . "I can't calm down!!!! I can't calm down!!!!" She responded with "I need you to try to calm down". He responded with "I can pretend to calm down." She said "Good Enough!!" and reported that he does a pretty good imitation of "calm".

The way I see it, he already HAD the disease last week, last month etc, and what's new is the knowledge.

Yes, Alex....only good can come of your brother's diagnosis. Just got unfortunate news from Enterolab--my dad's test is negative all around. I remain convinced that he has trouble with gluten, and that his neuropathy, Parkinson's, ataxia are all symptoms, but I don't have the documented proof to give to the retirement residence to have them put him on a gluten-free diet. Sigh...............

Very Frustrating Emily . I'm sure your parents are paying enough for that retirement residence that they should cater to his dietary needs whether or not he has "medical proof". It's maddening that they wouldn't work with you to ensure his optimum health .

I do agree with everyone saying that Colin's diagnosis is a good thing. I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed. I had hoped that he wasn't celiac but that gluten-free would just help with his mood disorder. But now he needs to worry about cross-contamination and the scary consequences of not being 100% compliant with the diet. He's handling quite well though, and my dad and I are committed to helping him. I don't want to get too mushy or anything but my dad has totally stepped up to the plate in the past couple of years. He had been a bit distant for awhile but now he's a huge support to both me and Colin -- he's at Colin's at least twice a week making sure he's doing well and literally argued his way into being allowed to stay overnight in the hospital with me a couple of times. I feel very blessed . I pains me when I read on the forum about people's families and parents in particular not being supportive of the them and their struggles with celiac and the gluten-free life. It just seems to go directly against what I think a parent's job is.

I also kind of feel like my celiac disease has more of a purpose now. I'd pretty much come to term with the whole celiac thing anyway but I feel even more at peace with it now. I presented very classically and acutely and was hence diagnosed rather quickly. But my brother has no GI symptoms, he's not anemic and any fatigue and weight loss he's experienced has been attributed to the depression. Who knows how long he's had celiac disease and if he would ever had been diagnosed. I feel like I needed to have celiac disease so that he could be diagnosed. Okay . . . enough rambling on about me and my life. There are much more interesting things out there.

Evening Sillies!

Twas a busy weekend, we went to my moms and took Sabrina to breakfast with the Easter Bunny at Wegmans. Very nice. They had a wonderful breakfast buffet and helped me get a safe plate. I will update my avatar in a little bit to show you her new pic. We also met Tammy and Silvia there. It was a great visit.

Went to a BIG surprise birthday party for my two nephews. Lots of wine, singing, gluttony and merriment. Must go exercise......now....
