OMG--for me there was never a question--absolute, blatant abuse, continually. A wonderful read, more so due to the fact that it is autobiographical...but certainly not a laugh a minute. I thought much of what the children were forced to live through was quite horrific....demoralizing...dangerous....

Any of you read Running with Scissors? I didn't see the movie, so I don't know how well it held up. Currently reading Look Me in the Eye . . . he is the brother of the author of Running with Incisors Scissors. Both are memoirs and they too are from an outrageously dysfunctional family.

I saw the movie........absolutely heinous. did not translate well, but I'd heard that.......I LURVE me some stories of dysfunctional families. Glass Castle is my current fave......Angela's Ashes - all-time fave.

Painting the ceiling....if you SEE ME HERE again........SCREAM AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am WAY too bored, doing this!!!!!!!!! gawd HELP me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then, Janet, you must head due north, where you can hit Alex, Peter and me. No boat needed. If you come soon, you'll likely still need snowshoes, howevah.... <_<

Well, we are hoping to stop at Niagra Falls . . . but that's a little tougher to schedule. That whole stop is weather dependant, but we do swing by awfully close.

We've got a new family plan to start visiting all the states (and some provinces) on family vacations instead of (or in addition to) our annual South Carolina beach vacation.

Now, exactly what do you want your ceiling to look like when you're done????

And next year, we are talking about heading out to Washington to see my brother (West Richland) and spend a little time in Seattle . . . Jess's neck of the woods but apparently (based on her profile) she lives in the middle of Puget Sound so we might have to rent a boat.

They actually provide boats (for a small fee). I live on an island and there's a ferry, but I work in Seattle so if you did manage to brave the wild west it would be fun to meet.

Bah!! Too many Blocks ag'in!!!

Part 1A?

I'm out there, in the world, between errands, and find myself parked in my Mayberryish Willow Glen, not starting the car in order to read along, and I'm sure getting some looks from pedestrians as I cackle away.

There were TEARS!!!!!!

Part one:

no nuggets? quel horror.......what will I do? I DID buy a three-pack of that milk chocolate at Trader Joe's - the same one Tom had? Quite delish - - alas - I think the three SMALL bars are to be one delightful, little serving APIECE.....I ate all three in one day, I think....

Yup, thems the ones.

Have tried the Dark too, but . .. .eh

They're not really supposed to last through a night are they?

I have now had the Absente - four times? no phaerie sighting a'tall. what in hell?

And to think Pseuzee pseemed most phaeriphiable!!!!

Last effort I recall, you had maybe one & a half, then polluted the bottle pouring back the sugared drink.

<shaking head>

I think 2 drinks did it at first, but not everytime lately. No idea how many oz that is. (Ok SOME idea . ..maybe 2oz per)

By 3 or 4 (note to roomie - NOT 10!!) phaerie should be in phull phlight.

Mygawd....we actually signed that treaty, didn't we? Swapping S's for Z's, the whole hidden and superfluous "U" clause, ER versus RE word endings....

All Canada does is import rules...we never export a thing!

Hehehehe nevre expoUrt

What so many men are "absolutely certain" they've heard whispered as they leave the gym locker room........

Which is your fave so far, Ptaum?

I haven't tippled enough St George to say.

I think I like Lucid over Kubler by just the meagerest of margins. A tad zippier flavoUr perhaps.

Ohhh...you are in TROUBLE!!!!!!! Ptaum- we gotta talk about this smoking thing!!!

Whaaaaaaaaa .. .

OK, gimme a call

1-800-wishididntlikeitsodamnmuch

   Or try smoking the Green faerie....I hear it's quite wonderful. i grew some in my backyard last summer (just a type of salvia) but kept finding all these hippie dudes out back every night playing drums and well, frankly, it gt embarassing when they set up a nudist colony so I burned it.

See how she NOW calls the nudist colony THEIR Idea???? :P

OMG - is this an urban legend - the salvia? I want some... will it take away my anxiety?

Ghyad no! (Ok I don't really know) I'd be afraid it could magnify & extrapolate it to infinity and beyonnnnnnnnnnnnd.

I did read a few articles about it last month, while states started making it illegal.

It's allegedly quite hallucinogenic, tho for no more than an hour.

I do not LIKE this I do not LIKE this and - - Kissey wants his original Kissey back. :(

Ohhhhhhhhh .. . .. ..

Aw Sooooosie .. . .. .it seems I have too many things to say here & that some could come off wrong or just plain BE wrong.

It's true- she's coming! She's coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They've been holding out on us!!!!

DETAILS!!!!!!! (Cryeth the King!)

If Bev can fit me into her busy schedule . . . we will be in Boxford from the 5th through the 11th or 12th. We will have some mandatory Bostonian sight-seeing to perform, but we're flexible at this point.

Woohoo!! This is in just ELEVEN DAYS?????

Oh!! Janet, a trip up here MUST, at some point early on, involve a good visit to the capitol. This is a truly beautiful city. :)

Happy Late Easter everybody! :D

Good news: The kids have been rapidly improving since the great kitchen cleaning of last week!

Bad news: These same two lovely sweet children DESTROYED my kitchen this morning whilst I slept.

They got a carton of strawberries out of the fridge. Ah, how nice- a wonderful healthy morning snack. Then they decided they wanted a little sugar sprinkled on the strawberries. :o

In case you're wondering, I keep the sugar in the cabinet above the stove. But Ezra is a climber.

The strawberry juice had mixed with the sugar as it traveled around the kitchen. Also, Lucas tried to Wet-Swiffer the sugar that was all over the floor. Therefore, by the time I got up, the sugar had hardened into cement on the table and floor. Oh-- before Lucas finished, he decided to also Swiffer their bathroom. :o So that floor also had a nice shiny glaze of sugar glue.

But I didn't scream. I didn't even yell. I didn't have to. They took one look at my swollen, crusty, red-oozing-eye face, and bolted to their rooms- "I'm cleaning my room, Mom! See?"

After I reconstituted the sugar cement, and scraped it off the floor, I mopped about a half dozen times. Then discovered the bathroom and mopped that.

Then discovered that sugar had made it's way into the living room onto my side table which is ACTUALLY- get this- an antique potty. Yes, I have an antique toilet in my living room, and it's one of my prized possessions. It kind of just looks like a cube-shaped table with a door in the front. But it's really an old potty. :D Been in my family for God knows how long.

Anyhoo..... the kitchen is clean again, and the kids are at my Mom's for a sleepover. YAY!

I had a bunch more I wanted to write, but I'll have to do it later.

Oh excellent!!!!!!! I'll put the fresh sheets on yer bed. 'Tis almost done now, yer late!!!!!

[OMG - he said Chowchilla. Just makes me laugh. We had a friend visit Chowchilla ( my mom's second husband - my stepfather - has a HEINOUS house there and I have actually stayed out there a couple of times - good gawd - middle o' nowhere - fo' sho' and stinks like ass dairy out there - a smell you can't imagine) and.....this comedian was from the east coast - he kept wanting a New Yawk Deli - - we cracked up as we drove him to Save Mart Deli - - anywho - - he named it Cha-chilla - and it has stuck - though my stepfather won't say it......... ]

SARAH!!!!!!!! Quelle heinositee, indeed!!!!!!!!!! :o Dried sugar cement, everywhere.......and somehow.....I am laughing at this.... sorry! YER STILL PHUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps this is just positive thinking on my part because it has been a VERY short time since Colin's been completely gluten-free but I think I may be seeing some small changes. :D He was over here this evening and played some Scabble with me and Ryan and he actually finished the game the game with us! Previously he would just want to watch us play and if he did play he would usually stop half way through and retreat to be by himself for a time (it wasn't due to inattention I don't think just feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed). I know it seems like a small thing but it seemed pretty huge to me. I just wanted to jump up and down and hug him after realizing it was the first time he's actually finished a game with me in at least 2-3 years.

Susie, I think you said something about melatonin? I definitely think it has the potential to effect everyone differently. I have found it helps me sleep (although it does give me strange, vivid dreams) and don't notice any other effects from it but Colin said melatonin made him feel foggy and even more out of sorts than usual.

Oh Alex--that's such great news about Colin! :D

but..........this confirms it...... I am - for the moment - BROKEN UP w/ my melatonin. Back on effexor and will re-evaluate later......................

Yes this most definitely describes it! Thanks for your excitement everyone. Outside of my immediate family there aren't too many other people in my life besides the Sillies who would understand the hugeness of being able to finish a board game.

Ok, it's similar to this, but no back or sides. Mine has an actual bottom, with a lid and a door in front.

This is also similar, again mine has no back or sides... and this one is a lot nicer than mine.

Another example This one is the most similar to mine, although mine is kind of rough around the edges... and someone painted it dark green a few decades ago. :P

Naturally! And by the way, I looooove that no one here finds it odd that I have a toilet in my living room. Most of my friends are quite confuzzled by my fondness for it.

Ya have to laugh... you know that's why kids are so cute, right? So you don't chuck 'em out the window. My kids do this type of thing on a semi-regular basis. While I'm cleaning, I just keep reminding myself, "This will make a funny story... really it will." In fact... One my really early posts was about Ezra doing one of his diabolical deeds. Check it out Open Original Shared Link.

That you have it is not a surprise to me. In my pre-diagnosis period there were times when it seemed like I lived on the potty. Having one in such a convenient place would have been wonderful.

But then, I think, having it is one thing, but actually using it would be another thing altogether. It makes me think of the chamber pots that were common in the days before indoor commodes. I imagine that the, um, aroma could be somewhat troubling. :(

Hi. Did your ema levels ever go negative? My son is 2 years in gluten free and they are still positive.  I'm scared he has refractory celiac disease. Please if anyone has any info greatly appreciate it. His ttg is 3 which is considered normal.
    • MomofGF
I will have that info soon but it was a laundry list of a test and 9 viles. ok so there were some days she was gluten she barely ate because of the reactions. I told her 3 weeks of atleast 10g’s a day and no gluten-free days. Thanks so much for your help! I didn’t know my suggestion for gluten-free days would have hurt her.    I will come back with the list to make sure the req was proper!!
    • trents
A "gluten challenge" of two weeks would be the bare minimum for expecting to render valid testing, and that would have been paired with eating a minimum of 10 g of gluten each day (the equivalent of 4-6 slices of wheat bread). And with the three gluten free days in the midst of that two week gluten challenge I would not have confidence in the results of the testing. Was there a blood test done for IGA deficiency? Can you post the test names that were done with the scores and with the reference ranges used by the lab? By the way, with celiac disease the issue is not being able to digest gluten. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder defined by the fact that ingestion of gluten triggers an immune system response that attacks the membrane that lines the small bowel. The immune system mistakenly identifies the protein gluten as a biologic invader.

Hey all!! M i want to thank everyone for their suggestions and advice - I am a single mother of 4 (now 3) and was helping with my oldest leaving the nest. I have another child with medical issues and with work (it’s our end year), life has been crazy and I haven’t had the time to answer.    so we got a blood test done for my daughter that can’t digest gluten. She had been eating gluten for 2 weeks. The blood work came back normal? How is that possible. I see her with my own eyes and it’s not normal. Is that not long enough?  I am thinking about having her eat gluten another week then go to the hospital and see what they say.    She did have 3 gluten-free days in those 2 weeks but she was getting afraid to eat and I told her to may take a day off - was this a bad thing to do? Girl was having constant back pains and muscle soreness as well. Headaches/migraines…should I wait longer. I did see 4-6 weeks of Gluten consumption prior to testing… kind of at a loss now.    Thanks to everyone for whatever advice you can give.   Enjoy your Sunday 😃👋👋
