Gosh...I'm still flummoxed at the thought of surgery and a hospital stay being a big bill to pay...:angry:

I haven't tried to reintroduce them - except ElPolloLoco's pintos (not the refried) and have no known problem w/ those.

:o :o hope there's not a new legume problem for Susie .. . ..last time garbanzos were prime suspect? <_<

Chick peas count as legumes, right?

I've had hummus all along too & always seem fine w/ it - the few right ingred ones.

Correct, chick peas are legumes.

If you are eating pintos and hummus all day long, with no gas bomb bloat or Janets darn tootins, I would say you are good to go in the legume department

I'm late in responding but......welcome to California!

But I am SO struck by this notion of HAVING TO PAY for a doctor's visit. So it really does work that way? If you don't have the money, you cannot get medical help? Mygawd....this is so very wrong. Must you pay when you go to emergency, as well?

My kids have had a number of various doctor's appointments in the past few months, and I cannot imagine paying to get in the door. My mom had her knee replaced in the fall, and it cost nothing, but I hear joint replacements cost an American patient thousands upon thousands of dollars. And my dad's last month-long stay in the hospital recently--how can \Americans without large insurance policies manage this?

Sorry, very un-silly of me, but I hear the building panic in your words, Sarah, at the thought of not being able to see your doc because you don't have the money......incredible.

<_< It's true. completely heinous. My two-day hospital stay in 2001 was almost $30,000. that's right. I made a few payments, but there was just no way to pay this....and after some big intense talks and some begging, I never had to pay the rest, and I don't know why.

If you are eating pintos and hummus all day long, with no gas bomb bloat or Janets darn tootins, I would say you are good to go in the legume department

Um........not sure here........but it's NOT been a good week at all, and there were beans every day.

I am in a complete fog today, as a matter of fact......just walked w/ Annie and felt slow-motion and very, very heavy, staggeringly tired. :( don't know what's wrong but I am definitely "off" - -

I am so sorry you are feeling so funky :(:(:(:(

I would venture to guess you have a legume intolerance, given you have eaten them all week and how you have not been feeling yourself, plus all the gastrointestinal distress.....it's a very good possibility.

I'd say eliminate the beans, and all other legumes, and see if the fog clears.

If so, there is your answer.

Yep, Julie makes good sense. But OMG--I'll bet you'll be truly grieving, Susie, as I would be, if I discovered I had to stay away from legumes. Such a staple for me...Well, perhaps if you eliminate them, you can reintroduce them slowly, as people seem to be able to do with some intolerances. Fingers crossed for you!

Speaking of foggy heads, I had one of those as I was walking to meet my DD as she walked home from school. Then dizziness, then sweats....took my glucose spray out, shot it down my throat....not much better. Made it home, tested, and my blood sugar was 2.1.....

Welllll.... I'm back from the doctor. My doctor is awesome, I don't know what I'd do without her. She normally closes at 5, but they made my appt for 5-- and she stayed and talked to me for so long, I never felt rushed, and I knew she was listening to every word I said. I didn't get out of there till almost 6. She really is great.

Don't know where to start... My blood pressure is through the roof. 175/105. I was appalled, and so was my doctor. She thinks it's a combination of the stress/anxiety/depression and all the sinus meds I've been taking. Some people just cannot tolerate pseudoephedrine, and it looks like I might be one of them. She's forbidden me to ever take anything with it as an ingredient again.

I have to monitor my blood pressure every day and if it doesn't go down... well that wouldn't be good. (I have a blood pressure cuff here at home, from where she has me check my mom's blood pressure every few weeks. I love small-town family docs! :D )

It looks like my sinus infection is gone, but for some reason my hay-fever allergies (which have always previously been very mild) have suddenly gone out of control. She put me on 3 different allergy Rx's. (Gave me a ton of samples, whew.)

She made me take a pregnancy test, because of all the nausea I've been having lately. I apparently turned green right before her eyes. But it was negative (I knew it would be, but got scared while peeing in the cup anyways. haha.)

The nausea and light-headedness is probably from the anxiety and depression. She's doubling my dose of Effexor, stepping up over the next two weeks. She also prescribed a tranquilizer or something similar... I think it's called Visterin? She said it's a lot like Xanax, but non-habit forming. I'm going to have to look up info on it, because I've never heard of it. Out of everything, it's the only med I'm going to have to pay for.

I am also running a low-grade fever, and she doesn't know why. She said my sinuses are definitely not infected right now. So I have to keep an eye on my temp as well.

So that's that. I feel like complete crap, but I'm hoping to be feeling a lot better over the next week or so.

Ridgewalker Contributor

Correction-- it's not Visterin, It's called Vistaril.

This all sounds good, Sarah, considering it could have been much worse. After all.....YOU'RE NOT PREGNANT!! :o:lol:

Your GP sounds terrific. Ephedra has always frightened me, and I'm glad to hear you are off it. Once that funny fever has dissipated, I'm sure you will feel much better. High temps make ya feel like crap!

Too bad I ate some today. :( This has been a terrible week, mood-wise.....I have felt this increasing fog and depression coming on. Actually took a NAP today, and fell asleep. Practically unheard of, falling asleep in the day. So.....I think it's just actual beans that give me problems - I can eat peanut butter, green beans, lentils - no problems at all with those......can legumes really affect a person mentally? <suppose I should know better than to ask THAT question>

Speaking of foggy heads, I had one of those as I was walking to meet my DD as she walked home from school. Then dizziness, then sweats....took my glucose spray out, shot it down my throat....not much better. Made it home, tested, and my blood sugar was 2.1.....

But I am also very unsilly all of a sudden..... <_<

The number measures glucose in mmol/L, a metric measure. "Normal" levels are between 4.0 and 7.0, and expectations vary with circumstances. 2.1 is very low, and many people would pass out long before they got that low. I become concerned if I go below 4.0, but that is based on my experience with hypoglycemia in my pre-diagnosis days. My current family doctor thinks that 3.5 before a meal is okay, but I say "No, No, No!"

Well, on a positive note, we had a great day weather-wise. It was warm enough that after we got home from the store I cleaned and set up the table on the back deck, and we ate out on the deck for the first time this season. The last couple of years it has been well into May before we managed that. Saturday is expected to be another beautiful day, and we're taking the day off.

Monday, however, could be a day from hell. Toronto's public transit workers are threatening to strike at 4:00 am Monday. While we don't use the service ourselves, there was a one-day wildcat strike in 2006 and the city just ground to a halt. Our 40 minute commute could easily turn into more than two hours. Our store is in an area where parking is problematic at the best of times, and on-street parking on the main drag would be banned all day in the event of a strike. We are just off Yonge St, and have three private spaces, but in this situation the temptation for non-customers to park will be huge.

Sarah, it is good to hear that things are looking up for you.

Yep. I feel best when I'm between 4 and 5, and I do not feel hypoglycemic symptoms until very low. Anything above 8 is rare for me. But what a tightrope....!

Peter, we ate out on our deck tonight, too. Beautifully warm...the tulips and crocuses are peeking up. :)

A transit strike? Heinous!!...Guess they're not an essential service, are they? For may, they really are....

Hospital stays are frightfully expensive--my surgery and 2 day stay last year totaled $35,000. Thank goodness we had decent insurance and it was only around $2250 out of pocket.

I went to my new Chiropractor today--and he offered me a job! :o (Long story short :P ) It would be perfect for me--3 days a week, 10 minutes from the house and a 3 hour break in the middle of the day!

This is the nicest, most caring, and friendly office--I think I'd really like to work there....but I haven't worked since I had to quit the school (which I loved) and I'm torn between excitement and anxiety.

Hi Everyone! Sorry I've been MIA since????????? I didn't feel good 2 days ago and yesterday was very stressful. I was starting a new IV antibiotic and NO ONE (not my PCP's office, either of the local hospitals with infusion units, or the visiting nurses) would come for the first infusion. It's supposed to be supervised because of allergic reactions. They're rare but since the PICC line ends in your chest..uhm.....not good. I was so angry and upset all day. My sis and Kurt sat with me while I did the first infusion with Benadryl in one hand and the phone in the other. Obviously I was fine, but it was so stressful :( :(

I had/have? problems with legumes too. Peanut butter (GRRR!!!!!), chili with beans. I cut them out totally for awhile and am now slowly reintroducing them to see what happens. So far OK although I got jacknifed by a gas cramp too! Thursday night- haven't had one like that in aeons and it killed. I finally gave up and went to bed. I now make chili sans beans!

Perhaps some Jack Daniels and Uncle Ray?

An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution for a client who was due to be hanged for murder at midnight. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed.

As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him about, 'What time

of night to be getting home is this? Where have you been?' 'Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it'. And on and on and on.

Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he went and poured himself a shot of Jack and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs

While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight. Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go upstairs and give him the good news.

As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband, bent over naked, drying his legs and feet.

'They're not hanging Wright tonight,' she said. To which he whirled around and screamed,

If you don't take it, I will :lol: I would love to find something exactly like that, maybe 10 hrs a week, a few days a week, preferably in the health field.

Hi Kitty, thank you for your e mail,  I have seen a nutritionist who seemed to be happy with the food diary I had been keeping and nothing was mentioned about extra vitamins, and I’m still using milk etc . The steroids seem to be working and everything is functioning as it should however,  the course of tablets finish at the end of February and I have an appointment with the consultant early April probably followed by another endoscopy, as far as I’m aware I have not been tested for vitamin B and will definitely discuss it with the doctor on my next visit.

It might be understandable to say "friends or family weeded me or you out of their lives". Some people are fearful of getting out of their comfortable known lives and having to make changes to accommodate another.   If they are too uncomfortable to walk a mile with me, I shake the dust off my feet and journey on.  They're just not ready to learn that lesson.  But you confidently keep going on your journey.  They can catch up later.
    • Celiacandme
You might also be sensitive to other things while you are healing. Dairy, for example. It won't harm you from a celiac standpoint but is inflammatory and could be bothering you. Have you been keeping a food & symptom journal? Might be worth it for a week to see if you notice something you are eating prior to the times you feel your worst. I hope you start feeling better soon.
