Mr. Chow sighting!

Em - did you say you were seeing the poodle pup on Saturday?????????? Well, she's as good as yours, eh?????

I think we are...actually, Susie, you may have answers to some questions I have about bringing a second dog into the fold, as I guess you did by bringing home Annie when Stinker was already there. I think I'll start a thread on it...just advice on things like whether it's a good idea to let them eat and drink from the same bowls (our cats do), whether there's anything we need to worry about with jealousy, dominance, this kind of thing....I' assume they just work it out between them....

You're still agonizingly itchy, S-oozie? Surely there must be a bit of relief with the steroid, no?

 does it count......not sure. Pholks? does it? No threat/mystery/stealth involved in photographing an inert object...

Emily - bringing the dog in............'tis quite a delicate thing! I do think they need separate bowls, for one thing. And - there's a balance between making Gustavius quite secure in his first/alpha position, and making the new dog feel welcome and special. Tika was used to strays coming in and out - none stayed for more than a week, so she was okay w/ Annie in the beginning........but when she realized that this had gone on for too long - she was not happy. I would say it took a few months....I have many photos of the first time they shared the dog bed together. :) (Annie was MORE than willing to be a love - but Stinker, not so much)

Annie kept running away, at least once a week for the first six months.....but always returning. I was keeping her off the couch/bed etc., respecting Tika's primary position - - but Annie thrives on love and closeness, hand-holding, romantic eye-gazing - NOT KIDDING.:lol: So......I finally let her sleep on the bed (tika was no longer interested) and snuggle on the couch w/ me, and she stopped running away.

I think it was close to a year before Stinker really displayed affection adn love for Annie. they were the dearest sisters, in the end.....

I think it will be easier w/ Gus - - um, if I may say so delicately - I don't think he quite has the brainpower as my Stinker. (few dogs or humans do  ) He'll probably love the companionship! Just make sure he feels quite special and has some alone time for snuggling/playing/walking, whatever.

and NO, my itchies are not much better on steroids..... probably takes a while.

OMG - I think I'll go rent a carpet shampooer..............will be left alone w/ dingo thoughts - - HEINOUS!!

I think they reduce inflammation, but can cause short term water retention and long term weight gain.

Ohhhhh, yeah!

My dad and good friend were both on Pred a couple of years ago, around the same time. Moon-faces for sure! My dad's ankles and wrists also became quite swollen. He was on it for a heinously long time, and his chub-face did deflate somewhat after a while. Yep, it's definitely on the side-effects-to-expect list.....

S-oozie! You must be starting to resemble an emoticon!

Perhaps this one? :)

You must all take Open Original Shared Link.

This was my result:

"You are sweet, mellow, and easily satisfied. You don't like anything too intense and dramatic.

Deep down, you're a kid at heart... and you're nostalgic for the past. You are down to earth and lovable.

A true friend, you're very tolerant and understanding. In fact, your friends' biggest problem is that they don't like each other!

You love being around people. Friendships are important to you. You feel lost when you're by yourself... so you tend to avoid being alone."

You love to be the center of attention. You enjoy entertaining your friends.

You feel lost when no one is interested in you... You're too interesting to be ignored.

Well.....I think we're going to see that poodle pup this Saturday...... :):):)

I think.......

You think, and I hope. If it does come to pass, I agree that each should have their own bowls, though as they compete for alpha-dog status they may issue challenges by eating out of the other bowl.

Neither one can be allowed to achieve alpha-dog position. At all times, the alpha-dog must be a sentient biped. You are the clear first choice for this role. If you can dominate the quadrupeds in the house, you may eventually be able to dominate the other bipeds.

Sillies what a soggy Friday! I am literally soaked and I had a huge umbrella and a windbreaker...tis time for me to head home too wet to work! I wish.

I do have lots to do so this day should go by pretty quickly. As long as it doesnt rain tomorrow. The trip to my families house is horrid in the rain....dense fog where you cannot even barely see your car hood...let alone anything else.

Tonight we need to pick up a cake, get Landen, and I am doing a surprise for Jen since it is her first mothers day as well. We got one of those handprint kits and we are making Landen's handprint for her. I hope she likes it. She deserves to be appreciated on her first Mothers day even if the baby is too young and the rest of the family is away. What do you all think?

God Morning, Fellow Sillies!

SO I've been walking slowly and methodically around the house, trying to figger where I would place more dog food/water bowls....Didn't account for these kinds of things when we renovated. Where in hell was my brain? Why didn't I allow for an added canine annex? Then there's the second bed......hmmmm...it would be easier if both large dogs slept up wif me, and DH moved..... :lol:B)

Thanks again for all the birthday wishes, you guys!!! Had a pretty good day, although last night was crazy.

Our whole area (and I'm talking like 6 counties) got whomped with tornadoes last night!!!

We don't have any damage, just some debris- but not even much of that. The industrial area where Brian's office is is completely shut down, they're not even letting anyone in the area. Gas leak, I think, and all the buildings have to be checked for structural damage. There were injuries at the big FedEx hub, and someone even got killed! :(

I don't know how many tornadoes there were, but there were several hitting one after the other. The closest one was about 3/4 of a mile from us. :o But we're fine.

Thank you to Trents, Scott, Christina and Bohanley for your replies!  I have been gluten-free for about 13 years and mostly dairy-free during that time. I haven't been diagnosed as Celiac. When I did the test I hadn't eaten gluten for two years and the nurse told me the test wouldn't be accurate. Anyway, once in a blue moon I'll get tempted and take a tiny bite of something. If I do this two or three times close together, I'll get nauseated and if I don't throw up right away to stop it, will spend about 8 hours throwing up off and on before it's over.  I've been using Ketaconazole shampoo for about two years. I like T-Gel, but the prescription shampoo is the only thing right now that calms my scalp down. Many times, my scalp looks pink or red. It just feels very inflamed. I wash my hair every day and use Ketaconazole pretty much every day. I've noticed that a hot blow dryer seems to calm things down too.  My dermatologist has guessed (his term) at seborrheic dermatitis. I really need more help than I'm getting.  Thank you to everybody! Carolyn

Are you using the same mixer that you used for your gluten containing baking? That could be your culprit.
    • trents
I would ask for a total IGA test (aka, Immunoglobulin A (IgA) and other names as well) to check for IGA deficiency. That test should always be ordered along with the TTG IGA. If someone is IGA deficient, their individual celiac IGA test scores will be artificially low which can result in false negatives. Make sure you are eating generous amounts of gluten leading up to any testing or diagnostic procedure for celiac disease to ensure validity of the results. 10g of gluten daily for a period of at least 2 weeks is what current guidelines are recommending. That's the amount of gluten found in about 4-6 slices of wheat bread.
    • jlp1999
There was not a total IGA test done, those were the only two ordered. I would say I was consuming a normal amount of gluten, I am not a huge bread or baked goods eater
    • trents
Were you consuming generous amounts of gluten in the weeks leading up to the blood draw for the antibody testing? And was there a Total IGA test done to test for IGA deficiency?
