Thanks, you guys!   You are absolutely right, the waiting is ATROCIOUS! I just want the results to come, so we can begin to deal, and take of it, and work on fixing it! She's young, and she's always been so strong and tough. Waiting and not being able to DO anything is heinous. :(

Jess!!! What's going on with your ferritin??? Your level is a 2?! How CAN you get up in the mornings? I know Kassandra has been dealing with low ferritin levels- I'm thinking hers was a 4???- and had to have iron IVs.

Everyone, mom turned me on to a new (to me) supplement that I'm in LOVE with. It's a straight up, pure Papaya supplement. I remember reading that papaya is chock full of an important digestive enzyme. I can't remember which one. But I can tell you that I chewed a couple of these one day and it stopped my heartburn in a BLINK. Pretty amazing. They're cheap, too. And they taste like candy. Severe heartburn is a glutening symptom for me- and I'm saying Goodbye to Tums!

I'll try and get some more info on the enzyme they contain, and I'll pass it along. I do know of a couple people who've been able to go off Rx acid reflux meds by taking the papaya every day.

Sarah--what's the name of the papaya enzyme? I used to use one with papaya and pineapple and it worked great, but it was a brand under the name of a local health food store back in NJ.

Quiet here today. Where is everybody? Good to see you back, Sarah.

The big thing that's going on right now has to do with my mom. Honestly, I'm really worried. She has a growth on her leg, and there's kind of a strong chance that it's cancer.

Many positive thoughts and prayers for your mom as well as your whole family.

Well, as far as the weight loss maybe, but I spent all last evening and most of the night nauseous and having terrible anxiety. At one point, my heart was beating so fast that I scared meself. Plus, I virtually never vomit--but I came thisclose last night.

Boo, that sucks :( ! I hope you're feeling better. As unfun as vomiting is, I think it feels worse to not be able to puke when you're horribly nauseated.

Is everyone watching the Belmont Stakes today? I'm hoping to see Big Brown win the triple crown! His great-grandfather is Northern Dancer (on both sides :o -- is that normal in thoroughbreds?) so I'm claiming him to be part Canadian! Was planning on having Dad, Grandpa, and my brother over for a little triple crown dinner party but my dad ended up having to travel to his parents because my grandma broke her foot and Colin's been feeling sick on a new medication, so no party after all -- best laid plans, eh? But Ryan and I are going to stop by his place to bring him a good dinner and we'll probably hang with him for awhile and watch the race together. And I think my grandpa has been stopping by Colin's place in the evenings since my dad's been out of town so we might have a little party after all!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Sarah, good to hear from you, :) & sending positivity your way.

So we have Tom in a bikini (monokini?)

 hehehe <_<

For my first knee surgery I wrote "Not this one" on my contralateral other knee. I believe I was talked about for weeks.

 I'd want to do that too

Great visit with the gyn. She (of course it's a she) looked at my bloodwork and said "Can you even get up in the morning?"

:o

I seriously think that the corn did this--it was one of the foods that the Kinesiologist said I should not eat ever.....of course, so what do I crave? <_<

Feeling better this morning--but wrung out..... :(

Gawd

Bah! I do miss corn & the variety it could bring.

I'd read that popcorn should be the easiest to reintroduce, but got lightheaded & a weird prickly head feeling last time. grrrrrrrrr

Still kinda hoping, wondering if the hot oil was the real culprit. I might try dry-popping in a bag in the microwave just to put it to bed.

Hope yer better this aft, P

Go Big Brown!!!!

But might be an anti-climactic cakewalk w/ Casino Drive scratched. :(

Aha! Searched "yolo papaya" to find: papaya has papain & pineapple has bromelain

It's pretty incredible how successful Northern Dancer's descendants have been.

I've been hearing about that stud forever.

Bit of googling turned up a weird stat - his granddad, Native Dancer, was in the bloodline of ALL TWENTY Kentucky Derby entrants!

Just got back from an open house at the beautiful camp that Jack is going to for the first time this summer, an hour away in cottage country - - absolutely beautiful, and The Ripper will have an amazing time. In many ways I must say he's an amazing kid. A very different child, very bright, very mature for his years, has interests that belie his age... ..I have been told that he is an old soul. Has never liked the superhero characters that all the other little boys like, never plays the big video and computer games that they all do....prefers to read his books on The Titanic, Tudor England, Neandrethal Man....

So because of all of this, he's always been a loner, and was bullied quite a bit. He's the kind of kid that parents LOVE (and he'd rather spend time at a party chatting with the adults about the Chinese one-child rule or the Western addiction to grains, than with the children down in the playroom). So he is attending this sleepover camp by himself, with no other kids he knows. He's so super, though - - thinks this is fine, a great opportunity to make new friends... ..no fear or sadness whatsoever. I'm so glad for him... :):)

I can just see me when we drop him off there.... . .you think YOU can blubber, Patti......

Big Brown......yes, I like the Canuck connection! There is something, however, that I do not like about his owner......I dunno......I sense sleaze and careful illegalities somehow... ..

However... ..I often do not know what in HELL I'm talking about... . . .

Alex!! How is Colin doing?

....And heavens... ..how is married life? :)

Hmmmm... ... .Bikinis.. ...hot oil making Ptaoughmhmn prickly.. ..... ..

Do we wish to hear more?:ph34r:

Ah!!! SUCH comedic material, here.....how to choose..... .. .

Didn't think DH's reputation had preceeded him all the way down in CA.......

:lol::rolleyes::rolleyes:

HE'D like that choice.........

jerseyangel Proficient

Does anyone else get confuzzled and think Jess is Emily and vise-versa

Gotta pay closer attention to the crowns (note to selph) :P

Em--the camp sounds great, and I know Jack is gonna have a good time there. An old soul...charming :D

curlyfries Contributor

Ehmeleigh, your Jack sounds a lot like my son, Nathan when he was growing up. He never liked story books. Before he was old enough to read, he liked me to read a book about igneous and metamorphic rocks at bedtime. He also preferred to participate in the adult conversations and didn't quite fit in with other kids his age. He read dictionaries, studied maps, and collected bugs. Now he is in grad school majoring in wildlife research and ecology. His wife is a veterinarian.

I am also wondering how Siouxie's crockteasepot roast turned out. We had crock pot BBQ ribs last night. MMMmmmmm!!!

Who said bikinis??!!!EEEEKKK!!! :o Haven't been in one of those in............30 yrs

Tom had flowers??? I missed them!! :(

Green12 Enthusiast

Just a drive by post...

Sarah!!!! Happy to see you, and glad you are ok :) I'm thinking of your mom as well.

What's this, Tom and flowers and bikinis and hot oil?

I was going to jump in and post about the papain enzyme in papaya, but Tom ya beat me to it :D

Patti, sorry about your popcorn incident, but glad you are feeling better. Would potato chips have the same effect? For you know those times you want a little snack that doesn't throw your Edna off too much, just a thought.

And Yes, when people start messing with the avatars I get very confuzzled. When Richard was doing his thing I could never tell who was who

Emily, summer camp for the Ripper?!?!? What fun!! I only went to summer camp one summer when I was younger but I still remember it to this day as a really fun experience and adventure. The way you describe Jack, sounds like you have a really neat kid, very special too :)

No word on Susie's crock adventures?

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend ;)

Now, WHAT IN HELL'S going on???!:huh:

My phone line died about two hours ago......sometimes dead air, sometimes static, sometimes a weird kinda busy-type signal.... .. .and about five minutes ago, the phone rang. It is now working. Hmmm... .. this happened last night, as well. What's happening? What does it all mean, Oracle PeOter?!

Exciting race! Not in the cards for ol' Big Brown.... ...Oh, and FYI (this could also well be TMI, as well): This is what DH calls his bowel movements, and so was never really rooting for this horse to ever win...

:lol::blink:

Hi Julie--glad you drove by :D

I'd be in heaven if I could find an unsalted, safe potato chip! The only one I don't react to is Stax--but all that salt.....my blood pressure is so good right now on no meds, so that proves I need to keep salt to a bare minimum.

I do really like Enjoy Life Trail Mix--that's been a lifesaver for me on this Edna....just seeds and dried fruits. I add some chopped walnuts to the bag after I open it, too.

How are you doing? Has your flare eased up any?

Patti, do you have Barbara's products in your area? They have an unsalted potato chip. I'm not sure about the gluten-free status however.

Good to hear the trail mix is working for you :)

My flare, from the rainy day, is better. Thanks so much for asking..you are always so sweet!!

Technical discussion about telephone service follows. Skip this if you are not interested.

This condition is consistent with an intermittent short in your line. When overhead wiring is involved, it can be sensitive to wind conditions. It can be related to moisture in any case, but more so with buried wires.

A plain old telephone service (Open Original Shared Link) consists of a twisted pair of wires carried in a bundle of other twisted pairs from the telephone company's central office (CO) to a point where it enters your premises (the "demarcation point"). The TelCo is responsible for all the wiring up to the demarcation point; you are responsible for the wiring beyond it inside your premises. The demarcation point may be inside or outside the building, but it will be where the independent ground is provided. In my case, it is inside my garage.

There is normally 48 volts DC on the line. When you pick up a phone, the resistance drops and the current flow increases. The CO detects this as off-hook and provides a dial tone. Unfortunately, a short looks about the same to the CO. If a dial tone is provided, but a call is not completed within a certain time, the dial tone is dropped, a recorded message is played, and an error signal which is a bit like a busy signal (faster and higher in pitch) is sent until the line returns to normal resistance. While this condition exists, the number will show as busy to anybody else who calls it.

To see if the problem is with your equipment, unplug every single telephone, modem, fax machine or other device from the line. Wait at least one minute for the CO to reset. Plug in one telephone and see if it now works. If not, unplug it and plug in a different telephone. If neither works, then the problem is almost certainly not in any of your attached equipment. It could still possibly be in the internal wiring in your premises, but that is not likely. It is more likely to be in Bell's wires between your premises and the CO. Even if you use an alternate telephone service provider, Bell still provides the loop to the nearest CO.

We had similar problems with one of the lines at the store recently, and Bell had to switch the wires from the store to another twisted pair at the local phone pole, and make a corresponding switch at the CO two miles away.

OKAY, back to the normal non-technical silliness. :)

Big Brown totally lost the Belmont. He finished last. :(

Tonight, we were all out on the back deck finishing up after eating dinner. Out of the corner of my eye I spot a raccoon wandering through the yard headed toward the yard next door. Of course, I am not the only one to see it. In rapid succession all of the cats do as well. A bit of a scramble ensues to get our cats inside before a confrontation erupts.

It was hot today, but not as humid as predicted.

Tomorrow, we are going to Open Original Shared Link, an annual outdoor festival for dogs and their owners held in a historic part of Toronto.

Sarah, I am keeping your mother in my thoughts. I have lost a number of friends to cancer. You are strong, and I know you will get through this.

The Ripper is going to camp. Hmm, this will no doubt be an interesting and unforgettable experience for his counselor.

I have rambled enough for tonight.

Jestgar Rising Star

Em dear, if you like, just post your phone number and we'll assign people to call you all night, to see if your phone sounds busy. :D

~alex~ Explorer

Poor Big Brown, finishing last! We were disappointed -- we wanted to see a triple crown. At least it looks like he's not hurt or anything.

Alex!! How is Colin doing?

....And heavens... ..how is married life? :)

Overall, Colin is improving but it's a bit of a bumpy road. His concentration and initiative are getting better all the time and he has many more moments of happiness (which makes me happy :D). The depression is still there but it does seem to be lifting. Although I don't think gluten is the only culprit for Colin, I certainly think it's a big part of the puzzle. There's been some talk that complicated grief may be a more fitting diagnosis for him than bipolar II. The main thing is I feel hopeful for his recovery and I see some hopefulness in him too. :)

And married life . . . it's very nice! I love finally being able to introduce Ryan as my husband instead of fiance. And his family is wonderful and loving and whole and I feel very lucky to be a part of it. Lately I've been dreaming that we decide to have a baby but then when the baby comes, it ends up being a puppy. So I'm not sure if that means that thoughts of having a baby or getting a puppy are floating around my subconscious.

Good Sunday morning, Sillies! :D

It's gonna be another hot one here! I went outside early and watered the flowers and swept the porches....that's it for me outside today :P Got lotsa stuff that needs doing inside, though....

Hope everyone's staying cool :)

There are other possible causes or damaged small bowel villi besides celiac disease. Google this: Not All That Flattens Villi Is Celiac Disease: A Review of Enteropathies There is also something known as seronegative celiac disease: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4586545/

Quaker corn grits are not certified gluten-free! These may, in fact, be contaminated by cross-contact in the manufacturing process. I have been following a strict gluten-free diet for about 3 years, with varying results depending on cross-contact issues. My celiac testing was inconclusive - and I wasn't willing to go back on gluten long enough for a full celiac diagnosis. I get pretty severe symptoms just a few hours after ANY gluten ingestion, no matter how small, so gastrointestinal doc recommends continuing to follow a gluten-free diet. So whether I have celiac disease (I do have one celiac gene) or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, treatment is the same. I have enjoyed corn grits on occasion, but started seeing a pattern of gluten intake symptoms after large family breakfasts. This last time, I researched everything I might have ingested. My family is pretty good about cross-contact, too. When I got to the Quaker corn grits, I found they are not certified gluten-free, and the labeling does not say gluten free anywhere - although the only ingredients are corn grits, salt and some vitamins and minerals. The research I did confirms that while Quaker grits do not "contain" gluten ingredients, they may indeed be contaminated by cross-contact with glutens. I threw out all the grits (and corn meal) I had in the pantry, and bought some certified as gluten-free. Hopefully, next family breakfast will be better! 😋

Thanks for the additional info, @TerryinCO. Can you give the reference ranges for the celiac antibody tests. The scores you posted are not of much value without reference range numbers since there are not industry standards for these tests as far as the the scales they use. What they are testing for is the same but how they concoct the tests is a little different from lab to lab. You will need to repost the original numbers as well as the reference ranges in a new post as you will not be able to edit the original post. Also, unfortunately, it doesn't seem your doctor ordered a "total IGA" test to determine of you are IGA deficient. If there is IGA deficiency, test scores for individual IGA celiac antibody tests will be artificially low. You mention that there are genetic tendencies on your mother's side for thyroid problems. Perhaps there is also an inherited tendency for celiac disease on that side as well. It's only in the last couple of decades has the medical community begun to understand that celiac disease has long fingers that extend far beyond gut symptoms.
