Good Hot Sunday Morning, Sillies!

Got no test calls from any of you last night - - and this is a good thing. <_<

Obviously, my phone line is working. Right now.

PeOter, thank you so much for your exhaustive telephone Wiring 101 explanation. We're sitting pretty, and waiting until it cuts out and doesn't come back... ..then and only then will we call our friends at Bell Canada. Perhaps it is the moisture from the seeming 250% humidity we're experiencing here....

Alex! Dreaming about giving birth to a puppy has portentious meaning.. ...it conveys a need to spend more of your time frivolously (i.e., wif us)... ....! ;)

Thanks for the technical discussion about telephone service, oh wise one, oracle Peter! I learn so much here in the silly thread

Alex, good to hear Colin is improving overall and that you are enjoying married life :D Hmmm, I am thinking your dream might mean to get a puppy to prepare you for having a baby?!?!

It's a cooler day here, but sunny and clear skies. A LOVELY day :D

I have a date with Sven in a few

I had a tough date with Sven myself this morning, out on the trails....hard going with this humidity. I prefer to meet with Sven in the nice, cool gym......

I think I've figured out why I am suddenly inundated with telephone/electrical line interference (about 30 minutes ago, my microwave oven suddenly died. It's only a year old)... ... .I think a mini-flipover, say, at the 500-mark, can cause this. I've just rolled over 2500. This is the reason, I am sure.

God, I hope my car is working.:lol:

Indiana's underwater!!!!!

Gian-knit??? Leiy-suh??? Staying dry by y'all?? (Jin????)

The Ripper goes to camp! Should be fun.

(Interesting to me that an area is known as cottage country.)

I was going to jump in and post about the papain enzyme in papaya, but Tom ya beat me to it :D

:P

For you know those times you want a little snack that doesn't throw your Edna off too much, just a thought.

Wish I had something besides cashews & almonds. I miss crunchy.

And almond butter for "dessert" ain't cuttin' it 3 yrs in.

Big Brown totally lost the Belmont. He finished last. :(

To be fair, he only finished last because the jockey pulled him up once it was clear he wouldn't finish top5, for a share of the purse. I think he got kicked by the leader on the backstretch, but only saw it mentioned and shown a couple times.

What a 38-1 shot tho!!!!

Overall, Colin is improving but it's a bit of a bumpy road.

I'm sure it's bumpy, but wow how great it is that he's better. :)

And married life . . . it's very nice! I love finally being able to introduce Ryan as my husband instead of fiance.

I can almost see your smile through the words. HEY!! Why didn't we get a wedding avatar!!!???:P

Lately I've been dreaming that we decide to have a baby but then when the baby comes, it ends up being a puppy.

:o

God, I hope my car is working.:lol:

GAH!!!! Don't give 'em any ideas!!

(I wonder what my count was when my *&^%$# driver's side car window stopped working on the Reno trip in April. Wish I had old-fashioned crank window. :( Both the motor AND switch need replacing. Six-freakin'-hundred dollars  .. . .haven't done it .. . .yet :( )

....but OH!!......the ripper's going summer camp!!!! (I thought this was a US thing? )

FABULOUS!!! :D ....I'm sure he'll be fine!!....and Emily will sit by the phone (if it works!) ;)

GAWD, wish we had something like that here ...'cos I'd bloomin' well 'av mine going!!

Lately I've been dreaming that we decide to have a baby but then when the baby comes, it ends up being a puppy. So I'm not sure if that means that thoughts of having a baby or getting a puppy are floating around my subconscious.

Sometimes I wish I'd had puppies instead of boys

I have a date with Sven in a few

Gawd he gets about don't he??

Had a 2hr date wif 'im meself this morning - GADS he worked me hard !!

< :lol:just wondering what a newbie would make of that sentence! >

T'is likely I may completely forgo Edna AND Sven in the next week as we are off to bonnie Scotland tomorrow

Aye - it's a long drive (8hrs) and me kilt is very itchy <_<

Got nuttin' here 'cept a vomitous pooch . . . why does she do it? Goes outside, eats leaves, comes in, throws up, I send her back out in case she's going to throw up again, go clean up the carpet, run back and forth to make sure she's not eating still more leaves . . . OMG - this is so decadent - am sitting in living room, on couch, using kissey's laptop......luxurious and comfy but - don't like using these blasted things - got all me keys in the wrong place....... (Kissey has made my house wireless, somehow. But pleeze don't axe me how)

I do NOT know how you all are watchign the horse race.......I can hardly bring myself to do it at all, and will NEVER do it again, after that broken ankle in the last race..... I just feel too sorry for the horses and worry that something bad will happen.........gahhhhhhh...................

We've been having lots of outside time, and art projects, and cookouts with the grandparents. Less than a week since school ended here, and we are LOVING summer vacation!!!

 this cracked me up because - I wonder if she'll still think this in say, two more weeks - - but, it DOES sound fun, and I STILL want to be yer neighbor, Sehr-ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will be saying a prayer for yer mum - what a worry. :( Keep us posted, and don't be a stranger.......

JESS!!!!!!!!!! OMG your ferritin - how in hell are you functioning/working? Mine was 2.3 at time of dx, and I could hardly stand up, and certainly couldn't think. Yes, we'll send you the goalie pads tout sweet......and be SURE and write sumfin' on yer tummy pre-surgery........ <maybe just draw a bunch of wackl emoticons?>

<blasted computer is doing weird things and I'll have to keep this short>

I am child free for a couple of hours . . . yipeeeeee!!! . . . hubby took the kids to the museum ('tis a thunderstormy day today - we're ASSuming baseball will be cancelled).

child-free - I hope you pulled yer absinthe out....... Or did you frantically start baking? To try and show me up?

PADDEIGH - so sorry about your heinous evening - POOH! are you better today? Crap, all a girl wants is a different snack now and then..............BAH!

Just what was she doing with the hot oil that made you prickly????

 yes, our Jess, deranged w/ anOemia, but still bringin' the phunny

Speaking of wackl...I wonder how Souczie's pot roast came out last night..

well, it was tender and such, but not nearly as flavoUrful as I"d like......gotta add more crap next time. I threw in worceweorieioreoiistire, salad dressing, red wine, garlic and garlic salt, salt, pepper, and stuff, but - it was not what I wanted..................I want more of a SAUCE and it was a BROTH...........must work on this.

but thank ye for askin', you wackls :D

Which part is wackl? Soo-si, or her desire to cook?

 all of it, my friend :P but even MORE wackl would be the desire to, um, bake.......

LEIGH-SUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell us about these delicious crockpot ribs, OR ELSE! Hand over the recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, WHAT IN HELL'S going on???!

My phone line died about two hours ago......sometimes dead air, sometimes static, sometimes a weird kinda busy-type signal.... .. .and about five minutes ago, the phone rang. It is now working. Hmmm... .. this happened last night, as well. What's happening? What does it all mean, Oracle PeOter?!

:o OMG Em - this is aliens, you silly, ALIENS! Clearly you've got them in yer phone lines, spying. Watch yerself now........see that they don't try to implant sumfin' in, um, one of yer pooooooodles, now......

Love to hear about your Jack - charming, indeed - he'll grow up to be a famous scientist or naturalist or writer, er sumfin.......

The depression is still there but it does seem to be lifting. Although I don't think gluten is the only culprit for Colin, I certainly think it's a big part of the puzzle. There's been some talk that complicated grief may be a more fitting diagnosis for him than bipolar II. The main thing is I feel hopeful for his recovery and I see some hopefulness in him too.

I, too, found out that gluten isn't the ONLY culprit - its removal changed my life, but - so much ruin had already occurred.....and I am much older than Colin....I'm encouraged that he'll do quite well, though, in his future. I just love your little family up there, how cute and supportive you all are with each other - that is a wondrous help. Your inlaws sound so wonderful also.............OMG - that scares me to death - sharing space and time w/ an inlaw family...........I just do not share space easily with people..........

SILLIES - - musr forage for snacks now - Kissey's bringin me some Lay's Stax, and it's all Patti's fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LEIGH-SUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell us about these delicious crockpot ribs, OR ELSE! Hand over the recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No real recipe, actually. Just take whatever ribs you like---beef, pork (I often use boneless pork ribs) and lightly brown them in a skillet. Put them in the crock pot with about a cup or so of water and a big squirt of barbeque sauce ( I use Sweet Baby Ray's) Cook all day on low--about 8 hours. If I forget to start it early, I just start it on high for a couple hrs., then turn it down for the rest of the time. Gently remove ribs from crock pot (they will be falling apart by now) and place on a broiler pan. Cover ribs with barbeque sauce and broil in oven for a few minutes to kind of carmelize the sauce to the ribs. We really like BBQ sauce, so I turn them over and do it again :D

When I fix pot roast, (I usually add water and bouillon, steak seasoning and/or garlic powder and pepper) once I take out the roast and veggies, I put the broth in a pan on the stove and make gravy using potato starch. The trick to great gravy is to put the starch in a bowl with enough water that it is runny not pasty. Put a lid on and shake it up. THEN add it to the heated up broth, a little at a time until it's the thickness you desire. Never any lumps. ;)

I'm staying high and dry here in Indy.......no worries. :P

Just got back from dancin' (west coast swing)...my all time favorite thing to do :D:D:D

I am often a lazy slag in the kitchen, so if there are ever any steps that can be successfully removed from a recipe, I've found them. One discovery: ribs don't have to be browned before they are put into the oven or crock. They can go straight in, and the results are just the same. :)

I also never cook my lasagna noodles before assembling them into the layers and putting them in the oven. A totally needless step.....

OMG... .. .cannot believe I'm telling people how to conduct themselves in a kitchen...... ..:rolleyes:

Ugh....This was one of the longest weeks I've had in some time...and I need to blow off some steam!

My parents were here since Wednesday. They come to see their grand-daughter and it was also her b-day this weekend to boot (today actually....4 years old already.)

**The whole time, the whole house was gluten-free. My parents are going that way as well to see if it will help some of their minor health issues.** (this was just a side not...steam of consciousness)

To top it all off, dd had a dance practice Thursday and a dress rehearsal on Friday. (Makeup, costume, hair...the works). Recital Saturday night AND this afternoon. They are 4 years old for #*%($* sakes. Let them be 4. Who cares if their hair is perfect. I was glad she remembered the whole freakin' dance!! :D :D :D

Anyway...It just wears on me to have to be everywhere, and try to entertain my parents who came to see her. They hardly got the chance.

I think if she wants to go into dance again next year, I will take her, but will also try to reason with the insturctors etc as the recitals will be on her b-day weekend again next year. :( OH!!! AND it did nothing but rain, so she could not even ride the new bike we got her. :(

Hope everyone else had a better weekend. Off to get some rest.

DingoGirl Enthusiast

LEEEEEEEEEE-sah......... thanx for the tips!!!!!! I am goign to make some ribs quite soon, OMG, who can get enough ribs w/ Sweet Baby Ray's sauce?? Not I, that is fo' shizzle.........

Browning vs. not browning........hmmmm...........I have heard that the result is the same but - - psychologically, and from YEARS of being a gluten-brain stuck on the couch and watching too many cooking shows, I MUST brown and sear any meat, before cooking, at any time, ever.

Emily said lazy slag.  but WHAT???????? Lasagna? Do they even MAKE gluten-free lasagna noodles? OMG I did not know...............another thing to think about.......'twould be lovely to have some of dat......

RYAN!!!!!!! I really do marvel at what little kids have go do w/ their various rehearsals and practices and hair and makeup......good gawd! Yeah, seriously, if she just gets the dance down, at age four - PSHAW! Sorry your week was so sucky, I think you should just open up a bottle of absinthe and wait for the faerie to show herslef.

Okay - - - my blender caraffe had been duct-taped together for about - two years now - - giant cracks held together (and I mimic my late, beloved Southern/Scottish grandfather in his mellifluous, reassuring tone, as I defended the broken blender to Kissey and others: "Puhfectly good, dahlin', puhfectly good!!!!!")- but finally, actual shards started breaking off  and it was clearly time to throw the old girl out. So - - debating between a Magic Bullet or another blender - Gail swears by the Bullet........and I'll tell ya, it makes a darned good smoothie.............anybody have an opinion?

:D

Oh Ryan--the whole thing sounds utterly exhausting! I feel for you, and clearly remember the days when my parents would come and spend a week at a time at our house in Georgia (they live in central new york).

I wasn't even gluten-free then, of course, but the stress of entertaining, trying to please everybody, getting the boys where they needed to be...----it's enough to drive a person around the bend sometimes.

Add the rain, the dance details....you need a few days to decompress, my friend! :D

Glad you can come here and vent--it helps! ;)

Souczie--coming to us from the comfy cozy couch  Sorry the crock potted meat wasn't quite right. I also thicken the broth with potato starch when I want more of a sauce. I like it either way, though.

Well, another day in the life of a silly. We got up this morning and had a pleasant breakfast out on the deck.

Then, as reported yesterday, we drove into downtown Toronto to visit Woofstock. We had never been before, and now we know why. It was crowded, dogs everywhere, and mostly vendors selling stuff. Much of the stuff being sold was the kind of things we would not have in our store on a bet. The weather was hot and humid.

Next weekend, we are going to a show in cottage country, which is open only to store management affiliated with our business (two co-owned chains). The show runs all weekend at Open Original Shared Link near Huntsville, Ontario. It should be a much more phruitphul use of our time.

Right now, the weather is oppressive. We have already had one thunderstorm this evening, and are currently under a tornado watch and a severe thunderstorm warning. "Watch" means the conditions exist and it may happen. "Warning" means it is currently happening in the area or is believed to be imminent. The sky is dark with clouds.

Soozee, setting up a wireless hot zone is not that difficult. I am in a hot zone right now <_<

There is another wireless access zone at our store. The thing to worry about is whether the WiFi is secure. If you can use it in your living room, your next door neighboUr can probably also access the signal. You simply MUST use some form of encryption (I use WEP with a 128 bit key). If David set this up, he probably knows this, but I would gently, kindly, ask him if the wireless needs a password.

We always boil our lasagna pasta before we put the lasagna together for baking. This works for us.

Emily, I'm glad your phone is working. Do you have a DSL circuit on the same line as your regular voice service? If so, it can complicate things a bit. I could also call regularly to see if it rings or I get a busy signal.

Found some examples of west coast swing....here is one of many....

Ah, Lisa.... ..... .the question is: where is the youtube clip of YOU and partner?

.....Or is that you?! ;):D

So the East Coasters throw each other around, and the Westerners stay aground....only in countries the size of the US and Canada could we differentiate things this way....

I remember, as a young svelte thing, being thrown about and between the legs of my partner when rockabilly was big and we attempted to jive. Man, those were the days!

I was trying to teach DD a couple of the moves for a school dance recently, and very quickly she extricated herself from my grip and scurried off, mumbling, "Uh, it's okay, mom.... ... .thanks, but, uh.. .... .that stuff will never cut it now"... .... Ha! So young, and jaded!

There are other possible causes or damaged small bowel villi besides celiac disease. Google this: Not All That Flattens Villi Is Celiac Disease: A Review of Enteropathies There is also something known as seronegative celiac disease: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4586545/

Quaker corn grits are not certified gluten-free! These may, in fact, be contaminated by cross-contact in the manufacturing process. I have been following a strict gluten-free diet for about 3 years, with varying results depending on cross-contact issues. My celiac testing was inconclusive - and I wasn't willing to go back on gluten long enough for a full celiac diagnosis. I get pretty severe symptoms just a few hours after ANY gluten ingestion, no matter how small, so gastrointestinal doc recommends continuing to follow a gluten-free diet. So whether I have celiac disease (I do have one celiac gene) or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, treatment is the same. I have enjoyed corn grits on occasion, but started seeing a pattern of gluten intake symptoms after large family breakfasts. This last time, I researched everything I might have ingested. My family is pretty good about cross-contact, too. When I got to the Quaker corn grits, I found they are not certified gluten-free, and the labeling does not say gluten free anywhere - although the only ingredients are corn grits, salt and some vitamins and minerals. The research I did confirms that while Quaker grits do not "contain" gluten ingredients, they may indeed be contaminated by cross-contact with glutens. I threw out all the grits (and corn meal) I had in the pantry, and bought some certified as gluten-free. Hopefully, next family breakfast will be better! 😋

Thanks for the additional info, @TerryinCO. Can you give the reference ranges for the celiac antibody tests. The scores you posted are not of much value without reference range numbers since there are not industry standards for these tests as far as the the scales they use. What they are testing for is the same but how they concoct the tests is a little different from lab to lab. You will need to repost the original numbers as well as the reference ranges in a new post as you will not be able to edit the original post. Also, unfortunately, it doesn't seem your doctor ordered a "total IGA" test to determine of you are IGA deficient. If there is IGA deficiency, test scores for individual IGA celiac antibody tests will be artificially low. You mention that there are genetic tendencies on your mother's side for thyroid problems. Perhaps there is also an inherited tendency for celiac disease on that side as well. It's only in the last couple of decades has the medical community begun to understand that celiac disease has long fingers that extend far beyond gut symptoms.
