Dude... I just had a little bit of a rant in the "My kids are going to kill each other" thread. A couple people seemed like they were blaming bad behavior on TV. I couldn't stand for that. I hate it when people blame everything on TV, I think it's bull.

Nicely done. Those two people actually managed to imply that if that mother were more religious, she wouldn't be allowing her kids to watch tv. Gads. Church is not the answer to good kids; being a parent is.

I try to avoid answering when threads tick me off -I don't think I could be very objective.

Absolutely! It all goes back to the parenting. Cutting TV out completely makes the child miss out on all the wonderful stories and fun ways of learning that TV and video can offer. And it's the lazy way out. It's a lot less work to just say, "No TV in this house," than to actually monitor, participate, and control what your child watches.

I've been pondering getting the Fairy Tale Theatre DVD set for my boys. It's not cheap, but that was a wonderful show. I have great memories of watching that show when I was a kid.

They say a good way to get stuff out of your system is orange juice (if you can tolerate it). They recommend it when you're quitting smoking to get the nicotine out of your system. If you can't tolerate oj, they say sip lemon juice through a straw. HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Yes, well done Sarah! I hope I can learn to be as patient and to speak (type) as kindly as you did in that thread. That kind of self righteous BS those posters were spewing makes me feel quite ill. I don't think I would be able to type a response without calling them stupid-heads! The whole "I'm a better mommy than you are because I don't let my kids watch tv or doing anything else!" attitude makes me sick. I realize that I have no real knowledge or experience with respect to raising children but in University the kids whose parents sheltered them from everything were the ones most likely to skip all their classes because they finally had some freedom and more seriously were smoking lots of dope and being carted to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. If you're raised to think everything (including TV) is bad and then you go away to school and realize that your parents happened to be wrong and that gee television isn't the devil, then you might start wondering if they were really right about drugs and excess alcohol and unprotected sex being bad as well. Too many rules make the important ones fade into the background (in my humble, inexperienced opinion).

Yikes Sorry for that unexpected rant. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I'm a little stressed I guess! Tomorrow is the party for the lady I'm giving the royal doulton to. I've been working on a note I want to include with the present in case I can't get out what I want to say to her. And remember, it's not always what the parents say.....it's how they conduct themselves and handle life's ups and downs on a daily basis. Kids are little sponges--they take everything in and can spot a hypocrite a mile away. The people they become has a lot to do with what they see.

I always thought it was a cultural difference.....religion is BIG business in the states...and it seems to creep into this board allthe time.

Religion never seems to come into it on the UK coeliac board ...but I don't think we Brits are (as a nation) as strongly religous as US folks.

I don't go to church - my kids are not christened ..AND they watch TV....but it doesn't mean we don't have values/morals or that they are not polite and kind.

GADS - i would never judge a person for having a strong faith - so why is it ok the other way round???
