Susie, I can just see Annie racing after the cavalcade of squirrels...... Gus and Elsie go berserk when there is even ONE in the yard, and we have hundreds of them around - - black, red, grey........The United Nations of Squirreldom, it would seem.......

Oh, Weezee is so jealous!!!!!!!! There are NO squirrels in our community  evidently they were not given teh gate code...........

seriously though - since they cut down virtually ALL PRE-EXISTING TREES, there ARE no squirrels any more. :( There was ONE LONE SQUIRREL in the orchard where we walk......alas, they cut down the other three corners of orchards :( and that squirrel is gone..........so yeah, Weez was in PURE heaven. So very cute!

Note her new av - she is smiling in it - bottom teef showing and it cracks me up........

And I know I jumped in with both feet, without announcing myself or anything. It's kinda like when you try to join a circle of conversation at a party without anyone noticing, and it never works......

Welcome to the Bunnie :)

How many of you thought I was talking about rodents?

<raising hand>

I pooped in to catch the last few posts and noticed all this quoting from stuff I hadn't seen . . . GADS!!! Gobs of posts I missed!! Had to go back and read . . .

OK . . . JoDog is driving me nuts. We have a pergola over our deck with a wire grid on it to get some honeysuckle to grow up the side and cover the top (at least that's the plan). When Josie spots a squirrel and it jumps on this wire mesh it makes a metal tinging noise . . . so does the toaster when you push down the lever or when it pops up when it's done. Everytime she hears the toaster, she goes nuts and has to go out on the deck to look for the squirrel.

Note to self: Always place myself on Julie's Trivial Pursuit Entertainment Edition team.......

Oh no, more poo crimes :(:(:( Poor little Al, I hope he has an ok day.

Glad to hear it's improved, Nik.... . .Actually, I think a true poo crime is commited by these women who sit in the public stalls, waiting fer you to leave before they unload... . .I mean, c'mon...... . such a silly crime.... . . well, all right, perhaps just a misdemeanor. Drives me nuts, however. They should get ticketed....like a bylaw infraction, er sumfin.........:lol:

2 Julies......2 Lisas......there was 2 Donnas............we are slowly becoming double sillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An ark! An ark! My kingdom for an ark!!

Mygawd!!....big teef  ......the bane of me life pre orthodontic work (and when your teeth seem too big for head..'til you grow into 'em)

Mygawd......when I was a kid, my dad had a popular kids' show on TV, and the main character that he played had HUGE, ridiculous buck teeth. Dad would come home for dinner, then go racing back for evening filming. He'd be dressed as Floyd, and would pull these incredible teeth out of his face and place them behind the table as we sat down. I remember them sitting there, like oversized Chicklets or horse's teeth, and me thinking, "how in hell does he speak wif those things in, let alone get them in his mouth??"

Wait.... . ..think there may be a pic online.......

Okay, it's not really clear, but try and check out the choppers of the guy on the left:

Nikki--does he still eat things like soy and dairy? I'm wondering if maybe he has become intolerant to something else. Actually, it was dairy that came to mind first, reading of his symptoms.

How does he feel in between these episodes?

Yes, a squirrel-less abyss!!!!!! :( OMG squirrels AND cats - we're coming to live in yer shed! Get ready! :P

Nicola - poor Alan! Does he get feverish when glutened? (I think some do)

What could this be? has he lost significant weight? He has only been with you - at home or on vacation - for weeks now, right?

Mmmm, ok-ish.....but if I'm honest, he's not been himself for quite some time.

Yep, alot of milk in his diet... :(

YES!!!.....this IS the perplexing thing..........he's been with us for almost 6 weeks

Just weighed him....he's lost 14pounds :(

I am a bad mummy :( ......Gee-sus...you could cut yourself on his cheekbones

Gonna start cutting out the obvious, Codex A , you guys familiar with this??

Really don't want to have to cut out dairy if I can help it <_<

...also need to talk my gp into prescribing Ensure again

But now I must watch tv, new series of 'The Riches' (Eddie Izzard, Minnie Driver).....have you seen it????

Why am I strangely drawn to Eddie Izzard??:blink::huh:

I think that's a great idea--I would think doing that would give you an indication pretty quickly. I know if I ate according to Codex, I would be continually ill. Keep us posted :)

And one more thing, Nik.....don't you dare call yerself a bad mummy!!! You are a great mum--you'll get to the bottom of this thing with Al. This stuff can get tricky--what works for a while can sometimes prove to be not enough as time goes on. He's probably gotten super sensitive....it sucks, but it's manageable once you know ;)

Once again, Patti has spoken wise words. :) You'll figger it out, Nik........ .. . you're a super mum, and it will all get resolved. Hey, you figured out the celiac!

No yer not a bad mummy!!! Not like he lost that weight overnight . . . it was gradual . . . and if the kids there are like the kids here, all the clothes are loose and baggy . . . would be hard to tell that it's more looser . . . You'll get him straighten out in no time!!

Codex A . . . is that the 200ppm? . . . I'm not familiar with it . . . and I hear you on the dairy. My daughter has always been more dependant on dairy products than she ever was on wheat products.

Lost 14 pounds you say??? Hell!!!! I've got it!!!! It's just sittin' on me arse!!! I shall box it up and send it to you post-haste!!

jerseyangel Proficient

Ah well, if we're givin away excess weight, I've got 15 pounds that just refuses to budge  It's not me arse so much as me midsection <_< What the heck happened..... it just kinda shifted.....

elye Community Regular

Hmmmm.....excess poundage...... . ....

 My dad said somefin' to me about this not long ago........

Most people gain weight by having intimate dinners for two... .. . ....alone. <_<

Thank you, Trents- are there any safe alternatives?
    • Scott Adams
I agree with @trents, it's not typical for gluten exposure to cause symptoms as delayed as a week or two after ingestion. In most cases, reactions to gluten occur within hours to a few days, depending on individual sensitivity and how much gluten was consumed. The delayed symptoms you describe—stomach cramping in the mornings and flaky stool—might suggest that something else is contributing to your discomfort. Cross-contamination is a common challenge, especially when dining out, and it's great that you're doing your best to stay gluten-free. However, the inconsistency of your symptoms and the long delay between exposure and reaction could warrant further investigation. It's possible that another gastrointestinal condition, such as IBS, a food intolerance, or a reaction to something else in your diet, might be contributing to your symptoms. You might consider keeping a detailed food and symptom diary to identify potential patterns or triggers. Additionally, consulting your gastroenterologist could provide clarity. They may suggest testing to rule out other issues, such as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), microscopic colitis, or other sensitivities. If you suspect cross-contamination is a significant issue, you could also ask for follow-up bloodwork (e.g., tTG-IgA) to check if your antibodies are elevated, which might indicate ongoing gluten exposure.

Good to know, here is their website: https://polly-o.com/

No cure so far, and a treatment might still be years away. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful:
    • Scott Adams
I'm not sure the article would be misleading, as it offers many different avenues to pursue for those with ongoing symptoms. The recommendation to keep a food diary and remove common food intolerance triggers would be a good way to discover issues with casein/milk, especially if you added that back to your diet after a couple of months and your symptoms returned. Many additional food intolerance issues can be permanent in some people.
