Jeeze, I skimmed over this part after being dazzled by the sparkley snowphlakes :P

I'm always up fer frizz control talk......been fighting it forever Ya know, when I used to get highlights, it seemed to make me hair behave better--less phrizz. Strange but true

Patti

I am QUITE SURE that my thermostat is lying to me

My inner thermostat is malfunctioning!!!

It is a smidgen below freezing, here -- a bit of light snow coming down.....quite lovely, and the sun was shining today. Don't need me Hudson's Bay blankie as yet....I'm a Canuck, after all.

HA!!!.....yes, those Canucks are a hardy lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh! Jules and Nik - anyone else here with quite curly hair? NEED to talk to you about frizz-control products...I have HAD it.................

oh and BTW - I think I'm about to get some highlights again - - hair is just TOO DARNED DARK and it's aging me

You use conditioner as well as shampoo???

.........Frizz Ease is what I use, never put it near your roots (greasy mess!!)

Maybe some straighteners would smooth things out for yer????

...and your right about the hair coloUr, as you got older you should ALWAYS go lighter as darker can make your skin look sallow :o

I'm always up fer frizz control talk......been fighting it forever <_< Ya know, when I used to get highlights, it seemed to make me hair behave better--less phrizz. Strange but true B)

For us 'curlies' this is because the lightening process relaxes the curl a little ;)

LOVED the Uncle Ray

OMG!! Jewel- li's Caramel clusters sound DIVINE!!!!!!!!!! :P (GADS!, I may be ill, but I ain't lost me appetite!)

MORNING PSILLIES!!!

Gaaad, Nikkikkikki...<shiver>.......methinks I would go into hibernation mode at your house! Hope you get the part you need soon!

Funny thing about lighter hair and getting older (which I totally agree with, btw)......when mine was black, several people thought I should keep it that way.......said it actually made me look younger  .......but hubby thought I looked too Goth.

And no......my blankies don't have tiger stripes , but one was knitted by my dear mum .It was in the dryer once when it broke and stopped tumbling. Now it has a large brown burn mark. Ugliest blankie ever, but I can't get rid of it. ^_^

Later, Psillies......gotta go warm up me car.....harrrumph!

Morning Sillies!

Let me first say....brrrrr!!!!!! I even had to scrape the dang windshield this morning, me phlangies are quite phrosty now :P

So remember I told you my coworker got surgery last week. Well she was discharged the next day and on Sunday she was back in the ER with an abcess. So on Monday they took her in and had a drain placed and found that the area was filling with blood and not pus....thus the start of an infection. So during that procedure she had lots of cardiac problems. Yesterday we went to visit her in the afternoon....the room was so warm and she was curled up under a blanket literally shaking she was so cold. She needs to go 24hrs without a fever to be able to go home...seeing her yesterday, she did not look good at all.

Morning, Psillies!!

Well, me dogs are staring, staring, staring plaintively at me. . . ....<_< .....Please take us for a run....please...a run!!!!..... . . Gah. Think I must. 'Tis above freezing.... . .footing will not be good, and there is some wind. Could be heinous, actually.

Warning: This is the product that contains fucus vesiculosus/bladderwrack :P ......may cause uncontrollable name calling

Gah!! Needed to hear those words again.....fantastic. FUCUS VESICULOSUS BLADDERWACK....will be my next "thing" I use when it's my turn in hangman.

'Mornin' all.

I read the thread ridiculously religiously (thanks for being silly  ), but I still have one misbehaving computer and my boss is asking for ludicrous things like a compilation of all the data I've generated on this project over the last year (waitaminit - I did the work! Ya mean ya expected me to keep track of it too?? Sheesh!) and this is hell week for Oliver (practice every night until 10, opens Friday).

Lyle is now totally indoors after the broad daylight coyote attack on the neighbor's cat (did I tell you that story?) and he hates it. Pees on the floor.

My days go something like this:

Get up, feed the cats, get coffee, check on the sillies, clean up cat wee, get more coffee, get ready for work, run out the door waving the flashlight and yelling hoping the bus driver will look down my driveway and see me, knit and chat on the boat, get to work and turn on the computers, stare at the numbers on one thinking "now what was I supposed to do with these", glare at the other computer that isn't behaving properly (repeat as needed throughout the day) scurry down the hill to the boat (no chatting, my friends are on the next boat) go to practice, try to stay un-irritated as all the diva personalities get tense and b%$@#y the closer we get to opening, go home, feed the cats, clean up cat wee, clean the litter boxes, pour myself a glass of wine, set the wine on the headboard after taking a sip, and fall asleep. At some point I'll need to clean up the collection of wine glasses at my bed. Probably when I run out of clean containers.

Going in an hour late today. Nasty headache. Probably all those stale wine fumes as I sleep.

So my coworkers kid was kicked out of daycare yesterday with head lice.....my coworker was so grossed out and she went home did the lice treatments plus disinfected the entire house....this morning the daycare calls again-guess what she still has lice come take her home. My coworker is furious...So it just dawned on me, my winter coat has been hanging next to her coat for the last 2 days....Guess I'll be doing some laundry tonight.

:o Wild coyotes?!?!?!?!

GADS!!! I wouldn't let me cats out either!!....although mine would LOVE an indoor potty!!......they hate having to do their business outside

Amanda!.....head lice can't live very long on anything other than human heads so your coat should be ok :)

Judy- she had a hysterectomy. She is 39 but had lots of problems since she was a young girl so this worked out for her....

We just were updated. She spiked another fever so she will be an inpatient another 24hrs.....poor thing.

Amanda! Thinking about yuur co-worker.

Head lice - - ewwww, but yes, it doesn't often happen that head lice are contracted from anything other than the infected person's head. I remember Jack having a buddy over years ago, and Jack actually putting on this child's winter hat, only to discover the next day that the boy was home from school due to lice. Jack never got 'em, so I think you're okay. . . . ..

Jess.......loved your daily routine account.

Um, something that may be of significance:

Took the dogs out on a purely hellacious run/skid/stumble (crazy that I did NOT turn 'round and head back after five minutes of this, but it is Gus's birthday today, and I know that this is the only gift he wants, ever - - an hour outing) . So, as we were soldiering on, I saw ahead of me Mr. Chow, marching along. We catch up, and as I'm passing him I say "Hey! Good morning!"

He smiled and said hello, and mentioned something about how Gus and Elsie walk so well together. Now.......he is suddenly missing two, maybe three, of his front teeth! I've spoken to him regularly over the last sixteen years, and he has NEVER had this huge space. .. .....

What could this mean?? That he has always had a substantial partial, and just did NOT put it in this morning? He appears very fastidious and neat with his appearance....I'd have trouble with this one..... . ..

Did he have those teeth pulled? Or lose them. . .. . .... trying to unobtrusively slip into my ho' tub.. .. . .Was HE using crutches, and suddenly lose a rubber tip, causing him to crash to the ground, knocking out those teeth?

Whoa - -what do you think the next bizarre item just might be that I discover at the bottom of that tub?

.. . .. two front teef. . .. .......

thanks Amanda.....I remember all the details now....just forgot.

Gosh hope she gets better. She has her youth on her side.

He's been using the crutch tip as dentive device. Had a big argument w/ Mrs Chow and she slapped him upside d'head, knocking his rubber 'dentures' out, causing them to fly through the air and land in the ho' tub. Previously was cinder block colored (matching his teeth ( )) but became discolored when exposed to the chemicals (or pre-teens) in the water.

Thanks but I will check it out with my doctor, usually stress will trigger it,

Has any doctor suggested taking a round of Dapsone?  If you have dermatitis herpetiformis, dapsone will clear it fairly quickly.  It is not a drug you would want to take forever, but when all else failed my doc had me take it as a way to determine if it was dermatitis herpetiformis.  Sure enough it worked like a miracle and itch stopped and after 2 months the rash cleared.  Then I embarked on figuring out how to eat to avoid the breakouts.  It is my understanding that once you expose to gluten, the reaction happens and antibodies are deposited in your skin.  They can blister right away or hang around for a long time and get "activated" by other things like your monthlies, pressure, stress etc.... It makes it difficult to diagnose and difficult to manage.
    • Hopeful1950
I use an app called Spoonful where you can scan labels and it will tell you whether it is safe, questionable (and why) and also something you can substitute.  It also makes it easier to see what is on the label.  There are some ingredients that I avoid in addition to gluten. You can also search the app by a category.  I just searched on "cosmetics and a few things popped up as compliant.  I think the app is mainly focused on food.  When I first started out reading labels was a nightmare and it took me so much time at the store.  This app has really helped me when I am looking at something new.  They update frequently, and if something isn't in their data base there is an AI function where you can enter the information from the label and it will analyze it right away for you. I have used an app called Find Me Gluten Free in the past when I am traveling to find restaurants.  People's reviews are very helpful because even when a restaurant claims to be able to accommodate, often people will find out differently and they report it on reviews. Hope this helps.

It took me 2-3 years to feel like my gut recovered, and then I still had gluten ataxia issues for well over a decade.  This study indicates that a majority of celiacs don't recover until 5 years after diagnosis and starting a gluten-free diet: Mucosal recovery and mortality in adults with celiac disease after treatment with a gluten-free diet However, it's also possible that what the study really shows is the difficulty in maintaining a 100% gluten-free diet. I suspect that if you looked closely at the diets of those who did not recover within 2 years might be that their diets were not 100% gluten-free. Perhaps they ate out more often, or didn't understand all of the hidden ingredients where gluten can hide. Either way, it shows how difficult recovery from celiac disease can be for most people. According to this study: This article explores other causes of flattened villi:
