I had a root canal . . . several years ago . . . after two failed attempts to correct the tooth wif crowns. The root canal was a piece of cake. Endodontist was NOT Mr. Friendly (not mean - just didn't talk) but he was excellent. He actually warmed up when he saw me trying to watch what he was doing in the reflection of his mirrored light. He handed me a real mirror to watch and then was enthusiastically telling me what was going on step-by-step . . . . . . that may not be for everyone  I had less pain during the procedure than the crowns caused. Worse part was the amount of time it took. . . oh, and the $$$

Good Luck to our Psilly Goalie today!!!!

Good Luck Sophie!!!

Hi everyone

we didnt get a tree last night since they were all water logged due to the wonderful rain we have gotten in the last two days, 4inches to be exact. So we will probably do that tonight.

We did go to the casino since we had a 100 bucks each of comp cash due to a casino error. I won 200 on this one machine....it is so cool, I didnt even go in with my own money!!!!

I think this morning I am going to head to the gluten-free store and stock on a few things I can't get anywhere else, like the bell and evans chicken patties. I saw pierogies there last time but it was 8 bucks a bag and we didn't have a lot of money so I passed them by....

we then are going over to the new house because we need to touch up some paint on the outside steps because the FHA inspector pointed it out and then failed the house for inspection.....so we need to paint them and it will pass....crazy eh?

I guess that's it.

Bye sillies!

Congrats on the casino win, yer Majesty! That is a great thing to spend some extra cash on - - gluten-free goodies. I always pass by the expensive, ready-made stuff except for once in a great while when I feel we need a treat.

So. . . . no sign o' that carouser Nikerler. Could there be a wee hangover?? :P

Everybody whisper . . .. . . ...head could be a' poundin'.... . . . . . ...

I've had my share of root canals......not fun, but my dentist is really gentle.......and he kinda looks like Tony Orlando......I suppose many of you are, like,....who? .......showin' me age, again

Are you still reading, Nik?

Hey Lisa....I can just picture Tony Orlando as a dentist. Do the hygensts look like Dawn? :D Maybe he has a song and dance routine to put you at ease. (heehee)

I've had a couple of root canals. First one was torture, but that was many years ago. The last one I had (by a different dentist, and not so long ago) was a breeze. Things have changed a lot in dentistry. The only really painful part was paying for it :(

I agree that you shouldn't put it off. It can be dangerous to your overall health!

Nikki, how are you doing? Are you alive??

Well, am wide awake, sillies, and with a throbbing tooth.

Oh no Sooze, a throbbing toof :(

Sheesh I have trouble remembering how many . .. ..min 4 I think, max 6 or 7. :(

NOT a good brain day here .. . ..wha'dja wanna know?

6 or 7 root canals Tom?? Yikes! I haven't had one so I don't really know if they warrant a "yikes", just assuming....

Sorry about your bad brain day, tell that brain of yours to behave! Hope it is better today :)

Just got an email from the English travellers....they're on their way to Heathrow....should be landing in Ottawa at 3:45 pm. Jack is enraptured with London, and swears he will live there. Is planning on a quick, easy scholarship to Oxford, studying "anything to do with science fiction" .

Sophie has a BIG game today vs. Gloucester, a team that has not lost a single game all season. They are 16-0. :o They are big, tough girls who look like they need many root canals. . . . . . ..

So glad Jack enjoyed his trip to London, going to Oxford wouldn't be too shabby at all!

Go Sophie!!!!!! Go Wildcats!!!!

Ok I have a question, what does everyone eat on Christmas Eve/Christmas day?? I always like to hear what everyone else's traditional menus are (and it gives me ideas too!)

We have been having stew the last few years for Christmas Eve with a bunch of appetizers before and then a variety of breads and muffins with the stew and then an assortment of cookies and other holiday treats for dessert. For many many years before that we always had tamales and chili and all the fixings.

Christmas Day has been anything from the traditional turkey/ham and all the sides to brunch to soup and grilled paninis.

I am thinking about making Paella for Christmas Eve this year, what do ya think?

.. . .and what else did I wanna say???

So stupid at work tonight . .. .been doing this setup for a couple wks and suddenly can't remember to turn off the power supplies & waveform generator b4 taking the part out of the socket . ....

:o Ptaum!!!!!!!! please TRY and not electrocute yourself!!!!!!!!!! I pray the brain gets better....

SILLIES!!!!!!!! Thank you for all the root canal advice, what I am most struck with is that your DENTISTS do them???????????????

Well, get this: my stupid dentist (new to me, my dentist retired) doesn't DO them, sent me to a terribly arrogant adn EXTRAORDINARILY wealthy endodontist. When I told him about Celiac and my teeth - severe pain, no enamel on molars, receding gums, etc. - he looked at me blankly and said "What is Celiac?" I gave him the 30-second explanation.

He clucked his tongue, shook his head arrogantly, gave a mild eye-roll and said "your teeth have nothing to do with celiac.":angry::angry: I was so stunned that I couldn't get out the sentence I REALLY wish I had said - - "Well, if you don't even know what Celiac IS, how do you know what it can or cannot do to my TEETH you A$$hat Ba$tard????????"

 x 50

I hate him....... $90 consultation. The root canalS (three of them) were going to be ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH. Oh, adn no guarantee they'd all work.

Then, each crown over the tooth, done by the dentist, would be TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS EACH. :o:angry:

so - each tooth, $2200.

AS IF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is why I've been putting it off. But I MUST deal with the painful one now.

Ok I have a question, what does everyone eat on Christmas Eve/Christmas day?? I always like to hear what everyone else's traditional menus are (and it gives me ideas too!)

Julie! Your food sounds phab!! I love the idea of paella. Coincidentally, this is what my BIL makes every Christmas Eve, and we join families at their place for a great feast - - chunks of hot sausage, big shrimp....delish........

Christmas day we have a big turkey, rice stuffing, mashed potatoes, and variations on carrots, broccoli and cauliflour and green beans. About as traditional and un-awe-inspiring as it gets.....but it's so good, we just never wanna change a thing.

So sorry you have to be dealing with this Soozle :(

But Jules, what kind of bread do you use for paninis?

Hee hee, come on over! I am going to have to inquire about gluten-free chorizo, shall I do that in the baking and cooking section....or the gluten-free products section??

For the paninis, and all my sandwiches really, I have always used Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakehouse Sandwich Bread (or the Sundried Tomato or Prairie Bread depending on what I am in the mood for). I don't have bread or sandwiches very often (maybe 2 or 3 times a year) so I figure the cost isn't that bad for a once in a while thing....and I just haven't found any other bread I have liked....and I'm too lazy to make it from scratch

It's kind of a many step process though because if I just take the bread out of the sack and put the fillings on and then put it in the panini press (well the George Foreman Grill/Panini Press to be precise.....the fat and grease really does just roll right off :lol: ) the bread doesn't get warm all the way through. SOOOOOOOOOOO, I put the bread in the over first to warm all the way through, then I dress it with the sandwich fixings, then I press it.

 Excellent!!!!

You know now that I think of it Tie a Yellow Ribbon might be a bad song choice, too suggestive of the ole tie a string around your tooth and yank it out when you least expect it trick.....wouldn't put the patience at ease.

Well I think it's settled, I shall do paella. It does sound quite festive and makes the perfect group/family-style meal, I love that it is a one pot meal also, so easy.....and natch, gluten-free!!!!

I have had root canal work three times. The first two Kevin, my regular dentist, did himself. I don't remember the cost, but it was nowhere near what you were quoted, Sooz.

The third one was an endodontic re-treatment (second procedure on the same tooth) and was referred to a specialist who only does endodontics.

They are not phun, but in the end are worth it.

Go, Sophie!

:huh::rolleyes:

Actually . . . lots of relatives . . . and friends and neighbors from where we use to live. I actually have one person on my list that was the neighbor of my best friend. She used to read my card at my friend's house. When my friend moved to Boston two years ago, her neighbor asked her to ask me to put her on my Christmas card list . . . go figger . . . not like she's a perfect stranger or anything, met her many times when I was visiting my friend and her daughter would babysit for all the kids so me and my friend could do some marathon shopping.

Problem is . . . I keep thinking of people that I need to add!!!

Also sent out a special letter today. My son wrote a letter to Norman Bridwell (creator of Clifford the Big Red Dog). It's a big deal because Smack hates to write anything and he got really exited about this letter so I had to make sure it went out today!!!! Really cute!!! I like to blame celiac, of course, now that I've learned about it, for most of my dental issues.

Not that this next tale of woe is celiac-related, but when getting started w/ braces, in 4th grade, I had EIGHT *&^%$#@ teeth pulled in one day!!! Only 2 were permanent but still!!

It was a very sad day for an 8yo.

I really don't see why that was necessary to do to a little kid.

I'm not doin' nuthin', but the tradition growing up was to celebrate Christmas Eve. We'd make empanadas (Panamanian meat filled pastries), Hanky panks (sausage and cheese on little toast squares), and meat balls a few weeks a head of time and freeze them. Then we'd make frosted sugar cookies and date cookies and a bunch of other cookies and mexican cream and peanut butter fudge and peanut brittle and chocolate fudge and seviche, and then the day of we'd cook all the stuff in the freezer, make chili sweet sauce for the meatballs, make hot cheese dip and blue cheese dip and some other dip and put out veggies and chips and crackers and then we'd make egg nog.

And then we'd eat for a week straight.

hmm, if being plump isn't genetic, it is certainly something you get from your parents.

Thanks for taking a look. I also just did some research and saw that increased numbers of intraepithelial lymphocytes and villous distortion can possibly be from lymphocytic colitis (which I was diagnosed with this past summer)....so fingers crossed this is what she will say it is.

IMO, Part 3 has some abnormalties that could indicate the early stages of celiac disease but the doctor is tentatively thinking not, at least at this point.
