MY GOD what a crazy day!!! I've been nerved up ENOUGH for my appointment tomorrow (well, technically today!!!) with that specialist in Saskatoon...

BUT I got a phone call this morning, and mom called me at lunch so I called this place back and guess what?!?!

I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A SPECIALIST IN FOOTHILLS HOSPITAL ON JANUARY 8th, 2007 @ 4 PM!!!!:o:D

I CANNOT believe it. This is in Calgary, Alberta for those who didnt know ;).And I mean, why not, right? I might as well go!!! It's not going to cost me anything.

I'll probably just take a stupid bus at this rate since my parents are sooo pissed off about having to take me (which makes me sooo angry because this is exactly what I need (to go to an advanced hopsital))

Thats all. Had to share my shock/overwhelmness/joy...now why cant Saskatchewan only have a 2 month wait?? ...comments please? Or anyone else go there??

Wow! That's awesome Lisa! I hope they'll be able to figure out what's going on. As far as your parents not wanting to drive you, all I can say is :angry: . I just don't know what to say about people who act like that...

Yes, I hope one of these 2 specialists can figure out what it is toooo. I guess they dont like the fact of driving like 11 hours and then having to make it a 2 day trip?? but I mean this isnt just for fun. Blah. For now I'll just ignore their stupidness and countdown the next 67 days

How'd your appt today go?

Actually...GOOD! :o

I sat for almost 2 hours in the waiting room for him (I guess he had bunch of things to get to in the OR and whatever else)...but at the same time its nuts!!

He asked about my history and I said that I have Celiac already and that since January I've been in constant bad pain and that even eating gluten-free dont help make the pains go away...

He asked what kind of symptoms I'm having, how it feels when I go to the bathroom, etc. So I said it burns (the sore spot) or throbs, I cant sleep on my side, etc.

So his plans...Gave me a prescription for Zelnorm to see if THAT will help relieve any pain (since I said Buscopan isnt helping)...

AND get me in for a endoscopy, he'll try get me before christmas (he said thats for "emergancy" appointments) and he'll put me on the cancellation list!! Which means I may get in even sooner...

Anyways, he wants the endoscopy done because the first thing that came to his mind was refractory sprue

MY GOD when this all sinks in tomorrow I'm gonna be a total crybaby. (just like soooo much in these last 2 days!!!--between the Calgary news and now this!!!! ) SO MUCH TO ACCEPT.

Well theres my update. *sighs* my school is so going to be pissed off at me already for missing soooo much school.

wow Lisa- That's a LOT! You deserve to cry if you want. I'd be blithering myself.

As fasr as school goes (you're in college, right? Well, even if you're not I still feel the same). Tough titties for your teachers. I teach (high school and now college) and it really makes me angry when teachers don't understand extenuating circumstances. I had one professor tell me, after a trip to the ER after my gluten challenge, that I should come to class anyway because i had missed so many and that he really hoped I "could get this celiac thing under control." And it was NOT said in a nice way.

When I was teaching middle school a student and her mom had to go into hiding for a month because they were receiving DEATH threats (long story, but these were not your run-of-the mill death threats....they were serious). At our staff meeting one of the teachers said, "I don't know how she's ever going to catch up". WTF??????????

Lisa, - so glad you finally got to see your specialist.

Let's hope that they can get you in fairly soon for the endoscopy and see what's going on in there!

I know it must be quite hard for you keeping up with your studies whilst feeling so rough :(

Be patient! - at least the doc is taking your symptoms on board and wants to get to the bottom of it.

Keep us posted! :)

Yeah like some of them are getting mad at me for falling behind and worried I wont catch up. They should just be glad I'm putting all my energy into getting to there classes when I can and that I'm not dropping out or giving up. I will cry, I know it. And right now I dont even care. If someone wants to laugh at me or stare then let them...

I must have an angel on my side right now. I got a text message this afternoon from that certain close guy friend I always mention, saying he should be able to talk tomorrow if nothing comes up. I havent spoke to him on the phone for over 2 months, rarely even hear from the guy. Now he sends me this at the perfect time when I'm about to have a breakdown. Please everyone, pray for me as hard as possible that nothing comes up for him tomorrow so he CAN talk...

Time for school, I'll be checking the boards in between breaks I'm sure so please keep replying. If I talk about it enough on this board I should feel better soon..

I'm glad the doctor seems concerned for you and is getting you in for testing as soon as he can. And I agree with Mtndog. Some people can be so narrow in their view of life and what truly matters. I'm totally in awe of your dedication to school with all the pain you've been in this year. If they can't see that, then well... what Mtndog said... :P:D

The ones I talked to today seemed quite understanding. Carla said she understands and I have to do it. Barry said that school will always be there, so if I have to retake some classes then I have to retake classes, and that my health has to come first--he said its ok that I didnt do my homework...but next week I'll have the other 3 teachers to tell, blah.

I'm trying not to think about tomorrow, and yet I am. I'm tired tonight (i guess 2 days of pretty much no sleep will do that to a person)

Someone should reply by the time I get up tomorrow so I have something to read ;)

Lisa,

Congratulations on the appoitment!

I just had an idea, you've mentioned before that you have a lot of food allergies... Have you ever tried benedryl when you get your stomach pain? Lately I have been getting these attacks where I have pain in my stomach, pain in my chest, explosive gas, and minor breathing problems. It feels like my body is attacking me and I feel helpless. These sysmptoms are almost 95% gone after I take 3-4 teaspoons of benedryl, which tells me that it must be an allergic reaction. I am allergic to a lot of foods and I haven't been avoiding them all 100%, so I'm going to have to try avoiding then all to see if these attacks get better.

Also, my husband gets severe stomach pain and other problems when get gets into dairy and he would suffer for up to 2-3 days at a time and have to miss work. The last time he got sick I suggested he try benedryl and the problems went away! He had to continue taking benedryl for about 2 days. This suggests that he has a milk allergy.

Just a thought...

Thanks Carrie :)

No I havent tried Benedryl for my stomach, i took it in the spring time for allergies a bit, and all I've used for allergies now is taking 1 Aerius which seems to help but dont kill the stomach pains.

Oh and I already am dairy/milk-free ;) But thanks for the suggestion anyways.

I guess I'll find out on December 2nd what else I'm allergic to :P

OK well today was my first day of taking Zelnorm...they weren't kidding about the side affects. I've definitely gotten 4: the diahhrea, headache, back pain, and fever  Oh I hope I dont have these issues for the next month....

And I dont believe I posted the price: $150/month...and no drug plan covers it :o:( ... pretty sad i'll be taking money from a bank loan just to buy my meds!!!

And on the side note: my guy friend ended up being busy I guess because I tried callin him tonight and his phone never even rang--it was going straight to voicemail...blah :(

Keep in mind that you might also have a dietary sensitivity to something else. Get into the habit of reading ingredients lists.

I would avoid gluten at all cost. Sometimes there will be no noticeable damage, but it is still causing an autoimmune response that will manifest in some way or another eventually. Throwing up from a macaroon sounds like something other than celiac disease also.

Thanks, Scott! I appreciate you looking that up for me. Perhaps that will be good enough for someone but not for me...super sensitive dermatitis herpetiformis here. I don't take any chances that I can avoid. ~Pam

Welcome to the forum, Liamclarke! We have reports from time to time of people whose celiac disease seems to go into remission. Often, however, it doesn't last. There is also the question of whether or not symptoms or lack of them tell the whole story. Many of us are "silent" celiacs who have very minor or no symptoms when consuming gluten yet slow, insidious damage is still going on in the gut. The only way to tell for sure in your case would be to be retested after going back on gluten for a period of weeks or months such that sufficient time has elapsed for antibody levels in the blood to build up to detectable levels. And I would certainly advise you to do that and not take anything for granted.
