Malabsorption

<_< Ok, I was told since I am newly diasgnosed and my villi are flat, I have issuses with malabsorption. Well I asked the doctor, if that's the case with food, would the same apply to meds? So why are you giving me all these meds to take when I don't seem to feel the benefits? When I was in the hospital and they pushed them thru IV, I felt immediate relief. Once it went to oral, it was like they were giving me placebos or something.

Any theories or similar experiences?

I think you are smart. It seems like an excellent question especially since you can compare the two ways of receiving the meds.

I was told that liquid supplements were better to take when you have digestive issues and that made sense to me as I found that all supplements bothered me. I know this isn't medication but I'm thinking it might be related.

Different things are absorbed through different sections of your digestive tract. Aspirin, for example, is absorbed through your stomach. Iron, (calcium?), vitamins D, A, K, and E are absorbed through the upper part of your small intestine, the part that's normally destroyed first by gluten.

Your meds may or may not be being absorbed correctly.

The damage to the villi is why I use liquid supplements. It dissolves much easier. You might also see about trying sublingual meds. Talk to your pharmacist about getting your meds in a form easier for your body to use. I go to a small pharmacy, simply because it is easier to get the help I need. Wal Mart is just too big and too busy.

I have no specific recommendations but I would suggest looking for products that are advertised as produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility. That should eliminate one possible route of cross contamination. It doesn't guarantee that none of the ingredients going into the product are totally gluten free but is should eliminate adding more CC to the mix via processing machinery.  One of the issues you may be experiencing is that testing has shown that a significant percentage of "Certified Gluten Free" products can test far in excess of 10ppm. There was an article appearing in this forum back last summer outlining the results of testing that showed this to be true. So, it may be somewhat of a pig in a poke when you buy this stuff, regardless of how it is billed. It may be safe for you if it actually fits within the stated requirements of it's billing.

I can still have a reaction from “certified gluten free” products I don’t like having to use the eat and see what my body does approach are there really any purely gluten free products or do I just have to make all of my own food?

Hi I just wanted to update you all and let you know that I finally have my diagnosis. 2 weeks ago I had my third gastroscopy and the biopsy confirmed the damage. Thank you for giving me the information I needed to advocate for myself when I a was a feeling so lost!
