Gluten Free French Bread

I am hosting a wine and cheese tasting for our dinner club next month and want to keep our house gluten free, so I am telling everyone to bring a bottle of wine and a cheese to go with it, and I will provide all the crackers, etc. I have some Glutino crackers that are decent, and really like the Blue Diamond Nut thins, so I plan on having an assortment of those, along with some fruit and chocolates, but I know someone will want french bread to go with the soft cheeses. Does anyone know of a good french bread (mix or frozen, etc.) that I can order or buy in the stores? I haven't seen any in our Whole Foods, but we have a lot of health food stores around here so if someone could recommend a good mix I'm sure I could find it (or order online). I have only been gluten-free for 6 months so haven't attempted to make gluten-free bread yet, so I need something that isn't too difficult and that will taste good untoasted (since it will be sitting out all night). Oh yeah, and i don't want people to know it's gluten-free (just don't want to go into all that with 30-45 people!).

Also, if anyone has any other cracker suggestions or chocolate suggestions, I'm all ears (we have a pretty good whole foods that just opened up by us).

I like the GFP French Bread mix, too. :)

that's good to hear - they sell that at my local health food store, so I think I'll buy it this weekend and maybe test it out for Thanksgiving, so I can work out any kinks in my gluten-free baking skills before December :)

That's a good idea :) See if you like it--it's very easy to make. I mix everything up in my KitchenAid, and bake it in a loaf pan in the oven. Smells good, too

I just bought a Kitchenaid - broke down and got it b/c they were on sale. Can't wait to use it! So you just put yours in a regular loaf pan? I didn't know if that would "scrunch" it up too much - I don't have any fancy french bread pans or anything like that :)

Everybody Eats has the most incredible gluten-free french bread. I would dare anyone to know that it is gluten free.

It's a bit pricey but I splurge on it every so often. If you are hosting a party I think that is definately the time to splurge.

We have tried almost all of Mona's products including the french bread and they are great.

I recommend The Gluten Free Pantry's French Bread mix too, also, if you can find Mary's Gone Crackers, those are AWESOME crackers to put out at a party, I shared them at church one day and they were GONE in minutes!

Another good "cracker " is shredded parmesian cheese on a silpat in little fairly thin mounds - bake them at 400 for about 10 min or until they look browned on the edges. Take them out cool and they taste great. :)

Hello, everyone, This upper left side pain is interesting to me.  I have this same pain almost all the time.  Started 2009 when I got diverticulitis for the first time.  Then had left ovarian cyst removed and a diagnosis of endometriosis all over inside.  Been attempting gluten-free since 2018.  It's not perfect, but still have that left sided pain.  Like up under the rib cage.  I believe the pancreas head is on that side, so I often wonder if I have a tumor or something there.  But it could also be an endometriosis adhesion in my belly.  I never got scraped.

One of my biggest issues is when a brand chooses to label one item gluten free, but not another. Why is Hunt's diced tomatoes labeled gluten free, but not the paste or sauce? I would have assumed they were all gluten-free, but why label one and not the others? It makes me suspicious.

Most of these items would be naturally gluten-free, with very little chance of cross contamination, thus they don't typically label them as gluten-free. If wheat is a potential allergen large companies disclose this in the ingredients as "Allergens: wheat."

What canned tomato sauce is gluten free? I use Hunts diced tomatoes, because they're labeled gluten-free, but none of their other products are labeled. Similar situation with some other brands. How about ricotta? Is that generally safe? Can I just get the store brand? Or do I need to look for a gluten-free label? Thanks for any help.

BadHobit, did you know that 40% of the general population has one or more of the genes that have been associated with the development of celiac disease? But only about 1% of the population actually develops celiac disease. So, the gene test can legitimately be used to rule out celiac disease but not to confirm it.
